Opening old PPro 2.0 projects in CS5

I have been using PPro2.0 for the last 4 years.  I recently installed PPro CS5 (As a part of CS5 Production Premium).  I have many templates I have created for my videos, which I created with PPro 2.0.  Will I have any issues opening these projects in PPro CS5?
Note: I was told by Adobe Tech Support that I should save the original PPro 2.0 projects in a PPro 2.0 folder then copy the projects in a PPro CS5 folder then edit the latter.....just in case there is a problem.  This did not give me a "warm fuzzy."  Any input?
Also, I read the discussion concerning documentation on CS5 products (the thread concerning CS2 upgrading to CS5 in this folder).  i also posted a message concerning CS5 documentation in the Creative Suite folder.  Bottom line.....since your discussion on this folder, would you still recommend the CiaB PPRo CS5 (since it is now available)?
Thanks so much,
Angela

It looks like my main issue is that QuickTime will not play mov files from a particular drive.
I have a separate 500GB external hard drive where my templates and animations are located.  When I try to open an mov file with QuickTime, I get the following:
"Error -43: A file could not be found:
I googled the cause for this error and saw that it may occur when either the file or the disk is named in such a way that QuickTime does not like.  An example of a folder that contains mov files is as follows:
A:\AC Business  - Project Templates and Files\Background_Animated\DH_AlphaMattes_VolA
I copied one of my mov files onto my desktop (locted on a separate drive) and it played fine with QuickTime.  I then created the same path on my C: drive and had no problems playing an mov file with QuickTime.
Any ideas of what QuickTime does not like about where this file is located?  There is something about my A: drive that QuickTime does not like.
Any advice is appreciated!

  • How do I open old projects in CS5?!

I just purchased a new iMac for our office. The old version of Premier (Premier 6.5) we had wouldn't run with the new OS system (10.6.4), so we've upgraded to CS5 and now none of our older projects will open... this creates a huge problem since we do a lot of 30 second tv spots for local car dealers and they tend to change only a few minor things every month. Might be the color of a car or the current incentive. So I just build off last month's commercial instead of redesigning the wheel every time... is there a way to open or import my older projects or am I pretty much screwed and have to recreate them?
    thanks,
    Rick

CS5 is not designed to open projects made in any version before CS3.  I doubt even Premiere Pro 2.0 projects will open or import in CS5.
Sorry, Jeff--gotta call you out on this one:
From the help docs linked above (emphasis is mine):
You can add the contents of a project made
with Premiere Pro CS3 on either Mac OS or Windows. In addition,
on Windows, you can import a project made with earlier versions
of Premiere Pro, or Premiere 6.0 or 6.5. The imported project’s clips
and sequences are added to the Project panel in a bin named after
the imported project. The bin hierarchy of the imported project
is maintained within its new bin. Discontinued transitions and effects
are not maintained. Use caution when importing a project into another
project with a different time base or audio sample rate, because
these differences may affect edit positioning and audio quality.
    Importing
a project into another project is the only way to transfer its complete sequence
    and clip information.
Also, you can open projects made with
Premiere Pro for Windows, including any contents that may have been
imported from earlier versions, in Premiere Pro for Mac OS.
True, the project files won't "open," per se, but at least on Windows, you can go back quite a way. I've personally imported Premiere 6.0/6.5 PC projects into CS5 without an issue.
As the last line of the quote above mentions, you can get old Premiere projects (Mac or PC I'm guessing, since it doesn't specify) into the Mac version of CS5 by routing through the Windows version. Two step, perhaps, but it's better than nothing.

  • Opening CS4 Project in CS5

    Hi Guys
    I'm trying to open a CS4 project in CS5.
On opening I get a message saying it was created in an earlier version of Pr and must be converted. I click OK and get a screen showing all the project folders and clips with options to 'skip' or 'skip all'. I tried opening the folders but nothing is there and it says 'No items match your search'. I tried typing the project name into the 'File name' box; the same thing. I click on a clip but it that doesn't do anything either, so I click 'skip all' and when the project opens all the clips have been replaced by an image saying ' Media Offline'. I find if I right click on each clip I can relink but this would take some time as there are 75 in the project. Any ideas how I can open this project to work on?
    Regards,
    Graham

When you open a CS4 project in CS5, the required conversion will result in a new filename with _1 appended to the name. Then when opening this project you need to show PR where the files are located by directing it to the correct directory. Once you have done that for the first file, it will automatically find the other files in that directory. Since you have now offlined all the files by skipping them, I suggest you delete this CS5 project and import again from CS4 and taking the little time to direct PR to the correct media.

  • Can I open a CS6 Premiere project in CS5.5?

I am working in CS6 Premiere and am needing to transfer the project files to my partners machine and he is working on CS5.5. His computer says it's unable to open because the project was saved in a newer version. Is there any way to bypass that? His computer has a lot more power than mine and we need that to finish an effects heavy project asap.
Any help out there? Thanks so much!

    Thanks everyone!
I did try the FCP XML export and it gave me an error message that I didn't quite understand and wasn't able to find any real help on that. So that method may not be your best bet, Jim Curtis.
What I ended up doing was opening up the project in CS5. It couldn't recognize the Red (5k) footage, but I saved the project file and when I opened it in CS5.5 I just had to relink the footage. I know that's a long work around, but hey, it worked and that's all that matters. Hopefully, I'll be upgrading once the new pro's come out and I won't need to do all the heavy effects at my partners house anymore.
    Cheers

  • Old Logic + a new Mac = can't open old projects anymore. De/re-install?

    Hi everybody,
maybe someone can advise me with this problem:
I bought a new Mac recently, did install a fresh OSX 10.5 and then used migration assistant to transfer my old user account from my old Mac (10.4), incl. all files. It did take a night, but it worked - or so I thought. Actually all applications work as they should, except for Logic. I had to re-authorize a few plug-ins, but then all seemed to be cool. I can open a new project, record audio, midi, add plug-ins, all cool. But I ended up with 3 problems, which are really annoying:
    1) EXS24 couldn't find most of the samples anymore. Most, not all. I have 4 internal HDs, one for the system, one for audio recordings, one for samples, one for "other stuff". 2 of these disks came from the old Mac, 2 new ones, content copied from old Mac. In the EXS prefs I set "search for samples" to "all volumes", but it still didn't work perfectly. Finally I bought EXSManager Pro and now it seems to work again. I didn't try ALL samples yet, but the +/- 20 EXS instruments I tried, did load all samples.
    2) Space Designer doesn't load impulse responses for the presets anymore. They're there and at the right place. I can load SD and import an existing impulse file, no problem. But the presets don't find the required files anymore.
    3) Now - and this is the worst one - I can't open old projects anymore. I just can't. It starts loading, I see the rainbow thing (don't know the right word), it turns black & white and that's it. You can watch this forever and nothing happens.
    Regarding all 3 issues:
I don't get any error messages. Logic doesn't crash, I can't click 'apple-.' to stop loading/searching. It just doesn't open the file. I had a coffee, a pizza, I let it try for 2 hrs+, but neither did it load a SD preset or an old song file. All I can do is manually quit Logic.
But when I open Logic with the CTRL-button down and click "no" to core audio I can open all songs. Of course I can not hear a tone then, but it's all there. Opening a song takes 3 secs then. I tried to safe a song then with a different name, re-started Logic with core audio but same result. It get's "stuck".
Of course I checked user permissions and all the usual trouble shooting clicks, but still Logic has a mind of it's own. I installed a 2nd user with admin rights, though still the same, plus all the 3rd party plug-ins refusing to work.
Now I was thinking, should I de-install Logic and re-install from the original CDs maybe. And if so, is there anything special I have to take care of? Like manually removing any prefs or cache files?
Or completely re-install the whole Mac? (pleeease no....)...
If anybody has any idea, it'd be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and for the energy to read my little novel here,
    cheers,
    Joern

Ok, either my question was too long or nobody seems to have an answer. Sad, either way
Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
    - Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
    - Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?
    Thank you again,
    Joern

  • Problems opening project in CS5

    Hi all,
I've been working on a CS5 project for 6 months. 2 weeks ago I tried to open the project and Premiere hanged when loading media. I have load the project closing the the opened sequences while loading the media files, but when I try to open any sequence it hangs again. I'm unable to do anything when I open the project. I have tried the following tasks:
1.- Create a new project, import the entire original project on it. It imports the original one, but with same results: when I try to open a sequence Premiere hangs on.
2.- Create a new project, import some sequences of original project on it: doesn't work, the box where sequences should be is empty
3.- Open any of the autosaved project: same problem, every saved project has same behavior
I don't know how to solve this problem. I have months of work in that project and the only thing left for me is to cry
    Can anybody hel me?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Opening CS4 projects in CS5 error with Canon 5D footage HELP!!!

HI Im trying out the new Premiere Pro CS5 demo and Im getting major problems opening projects.
Initially I couldnt open any of my CS4 projects but could import single sequences one at a time only, not whole projects. So I was finally working fine yesturday and today nothing opens that includes canon 5d footage . I get this error.
"This project contains a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
I get the same message when I import a whole project. Yet I can import a whole project 1 sequence at a time!!!
I can only create new projects which save and open but all older saved projects do not open.
    thanks
    remainz

Yes, this is an intermittent issue with CS5. Somehow, there’s a problem wherein certain commonly-used codecs suddenly remove/disable themselves. I had this problem, and it was driving me crazy as I couldn’t open anything, and it was just way, way too much work to recreate. So I opened up a new project. Lo and behold, the program suddenly informed me that there were codecs that needed to be installed. Codecs which, I’m sure, have been installed already, but obviously Premiere knows that they’re missing. Allowing the program to install them, and then allowing it to quit itself, and then reopening the program again enabled Premiere to open all of my projects again.

  • Can't open Premiere CS4 project in CS5

Having issues opening a premiere cs4 project in cs5. The machine I was using with Cs4 has died, so I'm trying to continue the project with CS5.
Whenever I open the project I get a message saying "this project contained a sequence that could not be opened, No sequence preview preset or file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
I have the latest version of premiere cs5 installed, and quicktime. The footage I was using was from a Canon 7D.

  • How do I open old tiff files in PS CS5

How do I open old tiff files in PS CS5?

Opening old files in new versions should never be a problem - unless they have originally been saved in other applications that don't follow the file format specifications. Or the files are corrupted.
The other way around can sometimes be tricky because of new features not present in the old version.

  • Opening old Premiere 6.1 ppj files in Pro CS5.5?

I have just run across some CD-ROMs with backups of some OLD Premiere 6.1 .ppj files on them (including the source file videos too). When I stuck it into my cd-rom just now, the .ppj files showed up as "Premiere Pro" file types. I tried to open them but after Premiere opened, it said there was an error with each file. However, this makes me wonder if I could open old .ppj files at all with Premiere Pro CS 5.5?  I think I have an old hard drive stashed in the cabinet which would have EVERYTHING associated with the project on it. I'd love to be able to recover it and recreate my video in full standard definition. (Back in 2001 when I did these, my computer would choke just to squeeze out a 640x480 version without hiccups!)
Any idea if this is even possible? What steps should I take? I don't want to spend a lot of time trying this out if it's already known not to work.
    Thanks!!

    Ann,
I have successfully Opened Pr 6.5 (Mac) Project files in PrPro 2.0 (PC), with but a few tiny glitches. In the case of those Projects, there were a few Transitions, that did not exist in my PrPro 2.0 copy, and one Effect (forget what that was now), but PrPro was kind enough to warn me, with each one, and even gave me the TimeCode, where those appeared, plus what the original name was, for the Transitions, and Effect. I would guess (have not specifically tried it) that your suggestion would work just as well. All I had to do was add the .PPJ file extension to the Mac Pr 6.5 Project files, and Open worked well.
If that does not work for the OP, then I would attempt to Import the Pr 6.1 .PPJ files into a matching PrPro Project.
In my case, the platform was different for the original Pr Projects, but that did not cause an issue (except as noted above), on my PC.
As the OP mentions the .PPJ file extension, it would seem that there is no issue with Mac vs PC, but my assumption could be incorrect.

  • Open CS5.5 project in CS5?

Is there a way to open a Premiere CS5.5 project in CS5?  I am trying to transfer a project done in CS5.5 by a colleage  to my CS5 system.  I've been avoiding CS5.5 because I, personally, had no need for it.  I'm waiting for CS6.  I would hate to purchase CS5.5 just to jump to CS6 in 6 months or so.  This is a pro bono project, so there's no way to justify the move to CS5.5 based on $$.  :-(
    Any options?

    Ann -
CS5 gives me the same error when I try to import the CS5.5 project as it does when I try to open the project.  The error message from CS5 is actually incorrect, but I understand the issue.  When I try to import just a sequence CS5 hangs.
"The project was created in an older version of Premiere and cannot be opened.  Please refer to the User Guide for import options".

  • Opening old projects in imovie 6

can I open older versions of imovie projects in imovie 6?

    Hi QuestVideo,
There should be no problems doing this. The older projects should just open straight up and update to the new iMovie. If there is a problem apple-click (or right click) on the old iMovie file and choose 'show package contents'. Then remove the Quicktime movie and import it into iMovie6 (for iMovie05 projects). For older projects just open the folder and import the Quicktime movie.
NB. Opening a project in a newer version of iMovie will make them unopenable in older versions. If you want to keep the older version just copy the file first and open the copy in iMovie6.

  • I can't open old IMovie project done with ILife09

I can't open old IMovie project done with ILife09 on my new MacBook Pro Retina with Lion Mountain system.

you can't just move a project that way. It all needs to be contained properly. If you can find the original imovieHD project folder, you can start again.

  • FCP 6 XML file has inexplicable failure to open in PPro CC.

    Hello,
I'm trying to open an XML from FCP6 and I keep getting the often mentoned "This project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened".
Now the odd thing about this, was that it was actually just a trial run as a colleague has not got time to learn PPro and is still larking around with FCP. We are trying to become familiar with how we shall cope with XDCAM media. FCP will have to encode the media into a form that FCP can read. He is using XDCAM Transfer from within FCP.
I wanted to check how I will have to relink the media to my non-encoded XDCAM media. (The answer to this question is simple, but frustrating - I have to re-link it manually - I think)
So I gave him one XDCAM file, with its standard file structure and asked him to make a single sequence with one or two cuts. Then to export a version 4 XML.
Nothing we do will make this blasted XML file work. He has provided me with three different XML files. None of them work.
However, when I boot up an old HD, with FCP6 on it and use the same XDCAM media, I can export a version 4 XML that opens in PPro CC without problem.
So where is this annoying problem occuring?
I have even read through 80 to 100 lines to the XML to see what difference there are. I can't be bothered to look further.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks,
    Anthony @ Antimatter Films

Might be faster for him to learn PP after all.

  • Dynamic link confusing two separate AE compositions in PPro from different projects

I am using CS5 Master Collection for Windows 7 (64 bit) on an HP Pro desktop (Intel core 2 duo, 6Gb RAM). The tower has two hard drives installed (no RAID). CS5 is installed on the original C drive along with the OS, but the working files, footage etc are all on the larger, secondary F drive.
I am working on a DVD project consisting of several seperate PPro projects. Each project has been colour corrected in AE using dynamic linking. Recently two of my projects suddenly became mixed up, by which I mean the video (not the audio) from one AE composition in one project has taken the place of another in another project. The clip remains the same length, but the link apears to be referencing the wrong clip during playback. Interestingly, there are two clips on the track above the affected clip that fade out and in at either end, during the dissolves between clips, the correct footage plays. It is only when the clip plays by itself that the problem occurs. The next clip also has the same error, though the problem only occurs for half the clip and then suddenly corrects itself. Just to be clear, All clips have been rendered, there are no more than two video tracks on the sequence, and I have tried replacing the composition from the asset menu (in which the clip plays back correctly), but the problem remains in the sequence.
I hope that descrition is clear enough. My guess is some kind of file path error in the dynamic link, perhaps due to the separate hard drive. But I really wouldn't know. I'm very pressed for time right now and I'd prefer not to go against workflow and re-edit a new composition in AE, I would also like to understand what is going on in case it happens again.
Any help with ths problem would be appreciated,
    J

Thanks Colin, I tried what you suggested with both the AE Project that it should be referencing and the AE project it is erroneously referencing but both failed to fix the issue. Its as if a hidden clip were laid over the top of the one I want to play. Frustrating.

It's not the comps that are the problem; it's the project file names themselves. You can have all the comps in a project named the same thing, and it'll be fine, but naming projects incrementally is an issue. After Effects includes a versioning function (Save and Increment) that will create a new AE project file with a serial number, e.g. AE Project 01, AE Project 02, etc. This is all well and good if you're just working in After Effects, but Dynamic Link gets confused and will usually start looking at the later project file for comps. That will just create a big mess, as you've found. Changing the names of the project files won't help things relink automatically properly, but it can help you fix things. Make all your DL AE comps offline in your Pr projects, and name your AE projects in a manner that is not serial (give them more random names). Select your offline AE comps, and right-click > Link Media, and point to the new AE project. Things should link up correctly then--but if they don't, you'll just have to remove all the AE comps from your Pr project, reimport the comps from the newly-named AE project, and replace them. It's a pain but it'll probably just keep getting worse if you don't.
