Opening older xpj files in RH 7

I am responsible for editing some Robohelp HTML help systems
created originally in an earlier (pre-Adobe) version of RH (I think
v5.x). All I have access to at the moment is a trial download of RH
HTML v7. When I attempt to open the older .xpj file, I get a
warning that the file will be converted/upgraded to the newer
version and is irreversible, i.e. it will no longer be
backwards-compatible (makes sense).
My question: Does anyone know if it's even possible to find a
trial download of such an old version of the product? That would
make it easier because I have dozens of these projects to convert.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, Colum (I should be Andrew McColum and
then we'd be a match!). That's what I feared. The issue is that I
took over this project from a contractor who has now left the
company and it was his own copy of RHX5 that he was using; and my
company (due to current economy) is not allowing software purchases
unless they're absolutely essential. So I think if I can use the
30-day trial version in X7 (making backups first) I should be ok
(I'll work quickly
In the meantime,if there's anyone reading this board who has
a copy of X5 that they want to give me, ..... :)

  • Openning older vector files

I need to open older vector files from 2008 (eps). They won't opem in my current apps CS5or CS6.

Are you sure (despite the file extension) that they are EPS files?
Can you upload an offending EPS file to dropbox or another large document sharing site and provide a link?

Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac).

  • LookoutDirect crashes when trying to open older .lks file

I am providing a new WinXP Pro SP3 PC with LookoutDirect v4.5.1 (build19) to upgrade/replace and older lookout system at a water treatment plant.
Being my first Lookout system I worked through the tutorials and everything worked great.
I then tried to open the .l4p file that I had copied from the existing system.
Lookout gave a message stating "The file C:\....l4p was created by an older version of Lookout. Please recompile it by opening the source file....lks"
I then try to open the existing .lks file and Lookout crashes. I get the standard Windows "Send Error Report" screen. The details say that the crashed Application is cbl.exe.
    Details:
Finally I get a message that says "Cannot open specified file!"
Is there any way to repair the file? It may be possible that the existing system was NI Lookout and not LookoutDirect. Does anyone know if there is a restore path for the project?
Is it possible that I didn't correctly back up the existing project?
    Thanks!
    Nick

    That can complicate things
I only have back to Lookout 5.1 in my library.  However, a few examples on NI are for Lookout 4.0:

  • Opening older keynote files?

when i try to open older files of keynote i get the message that they can not be opened as they use an older version. i have the same problem with pages. any ideas?

I have the same issue. It's ridiculous that Apple doesn't provide a conversion tool. Yes, they keep 09 when you upgrade. No, they don't give you 09 when you buy a new MBP, install keynote and need to open an old file. Am I supposed to drag a copy of 09 with me everywhere I go in case I need an old file?
So, this isn't the best solution, not even close, but you can open Keynote 09 files with Preview. You lose all the animations and transitions (and if you have lots of hidding and showing, you might not see everything) but you can at least export all the slides as PNGs from preview and have access to the content.
Like I said, not ideal, but better than not being able to see anything.

It sounds like gmail has serious problems with MIME data. That isn't something it should have trouble with. It has been solved for a long, long time now.
Even when I hit "View as text," it doesn't make any sense. I'll paste a copy below. Can someone please tell me what application to open up MIME files in?
    Ordinarily, your e-mail program.
I have a program I used to sell years ago when people started sending MIME e-mail messages that AOL couldn't understand. Perhaps I should update it if all the world is switching to gmail and gmail doesn't handle MIME either. 1996 is here again.
Anyway, click here to download it.
Technically this is a shareware program and technically I could make money from it. But very few people need this program anymore and it should work just fine for you in "demo" mode.

  • ID CS5 crashes when opening older ID file

I am attempting to open an ID file started in 2007 and edited in 2008. CS5 crashes after a few seconds in this attempt. Is there a magic bullet to fix this?
This is not the first time, but I found an output pdf and used those compoments to rebuild the file before.
    Thanks,
    Joe

I'm not sure I agree with Peter - magic bullets are available, starting at approx. $120, from Markzware's corrupted InDesign file recovery service. But I'd start with hope, crash logs, et cetera, and move on to magic bullets only if nothing else works, and if it's cost-effective to fork out for the magic bullet.
Never had to use any magic bullets myself (I'm a pretty mundane guy), but folks who have required sorcerous aid from Markzware have reported to me that it was effective. Sure beats killing a chicken and summoning a spirit, that's for sure.

  • Cannot open older Numbers files since update

Cannot open any Numbers files that were created before an update, but can create new files, close them, and reopen them. When I try to open the file it says "Numbers quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple." I've sent reports to Apple several times, and have installed all updates that are available. I noticed this problem before I updated my other computer and can still open the files on that computer.

    Hello
It seems that something works sadly because you aren't the first one with this problem which I already reported to Apple.
May yo pack one or two sample files as .zip archive
    create a "System profile"
attch both of them to a mail and send it to:
koenig PERIOD yvan AT tele2 PERIOD fr
I would be able to look if I may revive your file or send it to Apple's bugs hunters.

  • Shifting colors when opening older version files

    Hello everybody,
I'm a begginer with FH and don't know how to work this
    around,
I have several FH files which were saved in FH10. I need to
open and export them to SWF. But when I open them with FHMX the
colors don't match the originals ones.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance

It's probably just the Color settings in FH10 and FHMX. If
    you still
have FH10 on your machine, launch it and look to see what the
    Color
settings are under Preferences and match MX to that. If not
    you can
probably just experiment with the different settings and find
    one you
like. Ultimately I think that whatever program you are
    opening the SWF
files into will reinterpret the colors once again based on
    their RGB
values, so you may be worrying over something you can't
    totally control
    anyway.

  • Plugin error when trying to open older indesign files

Ive been looking through old posts etc, but I cant seem toe find out how I can update this mysterious plugin that will allow me to open files from older versions of indesign in my cs5.5 version of indesign.
Is this even possible? If so, please could someone tell me where i can download or update said plugin to be able to open those older files
    Thanks muchos!

Either the client was using a beta of CS6 or the file was corrupt.
BTW, did you actually try to open it from the USB stick? Not a good idea and that could have caused a problem all by itself.

  • Opening older InCopy files

I am trying to run InCopy CS3 on a 2.66 gHz Intel iMac, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD, and InCopy is crashing when opening certain older files, such as those created in CS. (We need to be able to open archived files that were created in earlier versions.) There doesn't appear to be much of a pattern to the crashes, though it sometimes seems to have to do with where they are saved and by what user. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Actually, I can't even open the files I created in GB3 one hour after I close them. Nearly every file I record -- no matter how simple -- is getting corrupted or something as soon as I close it. I even tried to export my song as an .m4a before I closed the file this time...just so that I could hear it again before the file got corrupted...but the .m4a vanished and the GarageBand file -- naturally -- got corrupted again, so I'll never be able to hear it.
This problem just started happening in the last week and it's not funny at all. Is anyone else having a serious problem with GarageBand songs getting corrupted? And if so, what can we do about it?

    You hit widely described features.
AppleWoks 629 is unable to open a lot of old files.
If you had take care of the description of the tool, you wouldn't have lost time with "Appleworks file repair utility" which is perfectly described as a tool designed to repair files corrupted by a specific network configuration. Nothing common which a single user system.
To solve your problem, two tracks available:
    (a) run AppleWorks under Classic. Doing that it's in fact AppleWorks 628 which will run and it is able to open oldies.
    (b) get an older version of the program, 624 or 627 which are able to do the job.
Open the files then save them in the "new" format. When it will be done you will be able to use them with 629.

  • Can't open older FCE files in FCE 4

    I have FCE 4.
I bought the book "50 Fast FCE Techniques" and it comes with a cd containing FCE project files. The files must are from an older version (probably 3)and when I try to open them I get a message *"The file format of this project is from an earlie*r version. Would you like to update?"* I click on yes. Another message box appears saying *"This project contains one or more sequences which this version of FCE can render with Motion Tab quality. Please choose a scaling quality to use."* I choose Normal and click ok. Then the box with *"This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut."*
Is there a setting or a conversion program to enable me to use these files?

Sorry guys, but upon further testing I find that all of the projects on the cd do load, except for the first one I tried. I guess I jumped the gun.

  • ADE 2.0 does not open 'older' ACSM files

I found many questions/help requests re opening ACSM files -- but none like this.
I have a number of ACSM files that are several years old and I no longer have data re where/how they were obtained.  I recently lost the 'My Digital Editions' folder but did have the ACSM files backedup.
I installed ADE 2.0 and it works fine with ebooks downloaded from Adobe.  However it will not open any of the ACSM files that I had saved.  Each gives the error:
"Unable to download. Error getting license. License server. E_ADEPT_NO_TOKEN."
Can anyone help me understand what the error means and/or how to corect the situation so I can retrieve my ebooks?

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0.  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
