Opening pages in dreamweaver generated by iweb
Does anyone know why you can not open pages generated by iweb. It seems strange that you can open them in safari but can not in dreamweaver.
what makes the html files not compatible with other programs?

I have the problem that Dreamweaver open a Site I
create in iWeb, but all is different.
For problems with Dreamweaver, best to go ask on their forums:

I would like to ask the forum because I have a problem with Dreamweaver 8.
In the past when I work with my PC on Windows XP I didn't have this problem.
Now I have a new PC with Windows 7 Familial Edition Premium.
I can open he most pages I would like, .htm particuliarly but some of them like .html don't opened in Dreamweaver 8
on PC with Windows 7.

I can open it with Dreamweaver 8 under Windows XP on my portable PC.
But I can't open it with Dreamweaver 8 under Windows 7 on my fix PC.

Patrick.It could be that Extensions.txt and MMDocumentTypes.xml do not have the full set file extensions.
The first one can be located at ~username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS6/en_us/Configuration and needs to have HTML added to line 1
The second one can be located at ~username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS6/en_us/Configuration/DocumentTypes and needs to have HTML added to line 3 so that it looks like

Opening dreamweaver files in iweb
I just got an apple computer and it is my first time using one. I had built a website in dreamweaver CS3 on my PC and now I would like to transfer it to iweb and use that. But I can't seem to open my dreamweaver files in iweb. I was told they were compatible. I know it is probably something really simple but I would appreciate the help.
The answer is a really simple one and that is you can't open Dreamweaver files in iWeb. iWeb is not an html editor in the same way that Dreamweaver is.
I don't know who told you the two were compatible, but they gave you the wrong info.
You can still run Dreamweaver on a Mac, but you'd have to stump up the cash to buy the Mac version rather than the PC version and it costs.
Why would you want to use iWeb when you have used Dreamweaver? -
Unfortunately when I click on the Dreamweaver icon to open all that happens is the Dreamweaver logo flashes on and off and nothing more happens. In addition looking at my folders all the web pages in Dreamweaver have gone and all that I can do is open them in a browser, Runs on XP?

When DW starts acting weird, the first thing to try is Deleting Corrupted Cache. Be sure to turn on Hidden files & folders in your Windows Explorer.

How to add pages in Dreamweaver without opening new file??

I just wanted to know if and how i could add pages in Dreamweaver rather than having all different files.
ThanksI want to have a main page which is used for every page but only slights differences are made i.e. there will b a box in the middle which will change as pages change. and thats all, i don't want anything else 2 change.

files generated by iweb do not seem to be editable
i have tried dreamweaver 8 and it does not seem to like the code generated by iweb
anyone else having the same problem?iWeb seems to make a couple "index.html" files that don't really contain anything. Odd.
The index seems to have this meta tag:

that jumps to the content page...
But the regular content pages (welcome, etc) open OK in Text apps and Dreamweaver for me. -

I have just upgraded from CS 6 (Dreamweaver) and now when I click on a picture on a web page in Dreamweaver it doesn't go to the folder where the photo is stored anymore. If this continues I'll have to go back to CS 6 as I have to put in alot of photos.
I am using dw cc and I just double click picture I want to change in dreamweaver cc and my image folder opens, select new photo and then it updates and I am good to go, I am using a mac

Dreamweaver and websites do not easily match up to Avery templates. If you are trying to develop a program for customers/etc to print labels, you should look for a script to generate a PDF file to ensure the accuracy of the printing.
If you are trying to use Dreamweaver as a substitute to print your own labels, I would highly recommend using Microsoft Word, or Adobe InDesign for a better solution. -
Second language option on opening page
(Using iWeb 3.0.3)
What I would like to arrange:
1) The initial opening page appears in Japanese text, with
2) an 'English' button displayed. When that button is clicked on,
3) an identical opening page appears, with the same features, only in English text.
4) This would seem to mean having two web sites, one in Japanese and one in English. Some of the content might be different, that is some items on the Japanese side would not be available on the English side, and vice versa.
A) Where can I get information and guidance on this sort of arrangement?
B) Is there anything especially important to know about this kind of arrangement?

There's no need for special guidance.
Create two page, one Japanese and one English, and link them. You gave the answer in item 4.
If it gets too complex, use a pencil and paper to draw lines to outline the navigation between the pages. -
Photoshop designed page to dreamweaver
Hello,
I recently started trying build my site in photoshop to transfer to dreamweaver. I sliced my page, saved for web and devices, opened up my page in dreamweaver, and everything was fine when I previewed in browser. But as of now my entire page is made of images rather than a page with images arranged on them. When I tried to arrange them, I can't get them where I want them (I'm used to the ease of photoshop).

How do I apply a template to html pages in dreamweaver 2004?

template to new pages?You don't want to apply templates to pages. Instead use FILE
| New > Page
from Template > site name > template name, spawn a new
page, and use this
page for the content. THis is not really an issue for a brand
new page, but
if the page already has content when you apply the template,
you'll see what
I mean.
You are being confused by a) not understanding root relative
vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews
files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like
this -
<img src="/images/foo.gif"...
That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the
document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive,
since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the
image is
broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert
the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the
browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document
relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and
has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all
external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has
made the
document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links
would be broken on
preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp
files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of
your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp
file. This is
what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use
document
relative links for the site -
<img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how
to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.

I'm a webdeveloper who works with tons of different pages each day. Many of these are sent as URLs by others in the organization, via email, etc.
To increase efficiency, I'd like to use our testing environment to automatically open URLs with Dreamweaver. So, basically, open a URL in the test environment (test.example.com/testing123.html), then have a link on the page to open that exact page with Dreamweaver.
Question is....does anyone know a way to open a specific file with a specific desktop application from the browser??In Firefox, you can click file and Save Page As, then save the page as an HTML file. Under Tools>Options or Firefox>Preferences (Mac) you can go to the Applications tab and add HTML as a file type and select DW as the default app to open them.
Personally, I'd caution against that because it messes up things that you really should be using Firefox or IE to open. (CHMs or application help files for example). -
Can't open Quark or Dreamweaver
Migrated all my data from one laptop to new MBPro on 1/1/2010. Everything worked fine until I upgraded to 10.6.4. Now I can't open Quark or Dreamweaver. I have client work and am getting very frustrated. Have been reading on various forums, have asked for support from Quark and am getting nowhere. It will cost me a lot of money to do the upgrades that both Adobe and Quark techs are saying I need to "make things work," yet posts from others indicate the upgrades may not solve the problems.
Does anyone have any advice on where I should turn next? I have been using Quark products since 1993 and am very very frustrated that their only solution is to spend $299 for an upgrade.

Cheaper would be $120 for a downgrade. Either your backup, if you have one, or making two backups and recovering information in a piecemeal after an erase and instal would be cheaper.
In the future only upgrade AFTER you verify all your software and drivers have caught up with the upgrade on production systems. Just because Apple says it is "recommended" for all systems, an upgrade will not necessarily fix problems with your system. If you have other underlying problems they often will only get exacerbated by an update, unless the update was specifically written to address those issues. Most upgrade documentation states what they are written to address.

DW CS3 crashes when closing open pages/tabs
So, I have no rhyme or reason for why this happens, but it happens often. When I have open pages I am working on - 1, 2, 5, 8, 10 - it does not matter, and I go to either (1) command W or (2) hit the little close "x" on the open page/tab.. sometimes DW just crashes. Like I said, there is no pattern to when and if it will crash, no pattern to if it happens if I click the "x" or try Control W and no pattern if I have 2 pages or 10 pages open.
The real outcome issue here, besides just the simple PITA factor for such a costly high end app to be doing this, is that I can no longer "undo" anything I was editing.
Any ideas on why or how to fix?
v9.0 build 3481Have you put that particular page through the validators to see if there are other issues on the page - just to be sure. I've truly not heard of such a thing happening when using width auto.....
