Opening PDF files as Word

How do I stop PDF files automatically opening as Word documents

I'm having the same issue. The only thing that I can see is
that when you publish an exe projector from CS3 it automatically
opens in Flash Player 9. Flash Player 9 seems to be the root of the
problem. When you publish an exe projector from Flash 8 (it gives
you the f in the blue circle icon) it automatically opens in Flash
Player 8. The fullscreen stays intact with Flash Player 8, but not
with Flash Player 9. Why doesn't this work anymore? I don't want to
have to open all my new interfaces in Flash 8 to publish. We could
use an answer Flash Support.

Using my MacBook Pro, I click on a PDF file to open in Microsoft Word & an angry box appears that says "Convert File."

Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-ins before version 10.1.3 are incompatible with the Safari 5.1 browser that shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 and for 10.6. The Adobe Reader and Acrobat stand-alone applications are unaffected and Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat browser plug-ins before 10.1.3 don't function as expected in LiveCycle and Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1.

Can customers use a different web browser like Chrome or Opera?
Acrobat Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are dependent on the WebKit WebPlugin API and capabilities that are unique to Safari. Other browsers like Chrome or Opera do not have the required functionality to run the plug-ins properly. As of the 10.1.3 release of Reader, Firefox running in 32-bit mode is now supported on Mac OS.
What is the impact on LiveCycle Workspace?
Since LiveCycle Workspace operates in the browser, PDF Forms in Workspace don't function in Safari 5.1 using Adobe Reader or Acrobat versions earlier than 10.1.3.

In the primary use case for Interactive Statements, PDFs are delivered via email and can be opened with the stand-alone Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Correspondence Management

External user use cases do not require that the Adobe Reader or Acrobat operate in-browser, so they aren't affected by the Safari 5.1 browser.

Since the MRA and ICR solutions require Workspace, these customer use cases can't function in the Safari 5.1 browser using Adobe Reader or Acrobat versions before 10.1.3.

Suddenly can't open pdf file in Word, get a conversion box message

This just started. Using Word 2002, when I try to open a pdf file all I get is a file conversion box for different systems and languages, none of which open the document. I tried going into the Properties in the file and selecting which program to open it in, but using neither Word or Adobe makes a difference.

To clarify, I am not using Word to open the pdf files. Those are in My Documents along with Word and Excel files.

My teachers send me a lot of downloads through Adobe PDFs and that's fine. Only problem is my computer constantly opens them in Word. I have even tried selecting "open with" Adobe, but it still won't work. If I'm on the webpage with the download when I right click the download I do not have the properties option. One time I saved the file to Word and then right clicked the file, selected open with, chose Adobe and it worked. It won't do that anymore. I always get error messages. The error is "there was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." No other students seem to have this issue.

Please tell us your OS and your version of Reader.

All pdf-links are working fine and the correct document is displayed in a new browser window. but if I open a WORD-document and after that I click on another link to a pdf-file, the WORD-file is loaded again in the new window. Only if I close the window which contains the WORD-document, I can download the correct pdf after that.
Is something wrong with the response header (I tried "attachment" instead of "inline" too but without effect)?
Can anybody help?

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.

Opening PDF files in MS Word?

My computer tries to open PDF downloaded files using Microsoft Word.
What setting do I have to change to cut off opening in Word?

Sometimes the case is the system default open PDF files with wrong program such as Ms Word, therefore simply change the “open with” settings to specify a permanent or temporary program to open it in correct program, to PDF, Adobe reader is the right one, you need to install it in advance.
But maybe someone are not familiar with PDF files and treat them as editable documents like word, then to <link removed> is what they manage to do. I guess most reasons to do so is that they assume that PDF files can be edited. In that case, conversion can be implemented.

Please let me know whether you are using Adobe Reader or signed up at https://cloud.acrobat.com/.
Also, try converting any other PDF file to word and check what happens.
Have you downloaded the file first onto your computer?

Cannot open pdf file embedded in MS Word

I cannot open pdf documents embedded in a Word document. 'the error message given when I click on the pdf file is
"Word cannot locate the server application for

Probably the wrong forum.
I guess your best bet is to extract the pdf file from Word, and then open it.
Make sure you have Adobe Reader or similar installed for reading the pdf.

Please let me know the exact workflow you are following.
Does it occur with all files?
Are you trying to convert from within Reader or from Browser.
If from Reader then make sure you are signed in within Reader
Also try updating Reader to the latest v11.0.09 and check.

Did you not see that D.Call said s/he was an inexperienced computer user… and was obviously asking for elementary level assistance? You were blinded by your belief that your knowledge and expertise is being wasted on anyone who isn’t forthcoming to your expectations. I merely pointed out that if you think it's such a waste of your time, why dwell? You should have left Graffiti to work with D.Call and headed off to another thread. Surely there were other posts requiring your extreme level of higher intelligence.

I was delighted when I signed up for Pages. Clunky yes, but it worked. I've been a graphic designer on a Mac for 25 plus years and have logged too many horror stories of "upgrade" wars which cost me massive lost time, data and money forcibly extracted just so I could finish a project.
When I first used Pages in April of 2012? or there about, I was able to open Word documents exported to .pdf format, emailed to me, which I then dragged into Pages. I could make the changes I needed to make, export as a .pdf, return it back to my client which they could then edit on whatever it was they were using. I'm not a neophyte with this. I've had Original Photoshop as a stand alone, Quark (which locked users out 6 months after I purchased it.) Quark again, Freehand, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Photoshop again, Creative Suite for several upgrades, Acrobat Pro. 2 years ago I lost 6 years of Quicken data and had to and "upgrade" start over. This last go around I had to "upgrade" my Apple ID - yes I had 2 on purpose, lost my Pandora One and my ability to get into the Tulsa County Library website.
At this point, I'm retired and feel like what I've paid for in the past should WORK today. I have a 100+ page cookbook in Quark which I was able to export as a .pdf, that I've lost the tags too, Easier to start over. I have artwork that is hundreds of megs in Photoshop. Not the least bit interested in anybody's "cloud".
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm determined to keep my equipment and software up to date so I can enjoy the skills I've acquired, but I completely cringe at Apple's antics. I truly hate it when I have to respond to some new "tip" or product offer. BooHiss. Happy Turkey Day. Pages is a "turkey" program.

please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.

I have a Mac running OS 10.8.5 and I use Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader. Today for some reason, any time I try and access a pdf file from a web page, it won't open. I get a blank window. PDF files already on my computer open fine and I can create PDF files from Word docs, but I can't download or view any pdf file from any web page. Strangely, PDF files on web pages open just fine on my iPhone.
I checked that both my copy of Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader are up-to-date. They are.
I checked that my copy of Firefox is up-to-date. It is. And nothing changed with Firefox within the last 24 hours.
I am a humble computer end-user. I am baffled as to why this would suddenly not work. I have not changed any settings, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I checked your instructions you sent and as far as I can tell all of my settings, etc for Firefox (plugin updates and preferences) are correct but I am having the same problem.
However, everything works in Safari. I don't have time to attempt to diagnose why Firefox no longer works. I will just switch to Safari.
