Opening PDF link through DOS start command

Our software manager is asking if we can use a simple DOS command (embedded in a browser-like xaml interface) to open a PDF file to a hypertext link brought over from a FrameMaker source doc.
I know that I can open a.pdf with DOS command "start a.pdf", but I am unsure (and cannot find) the syntax that I need to tell DOS to open the PDF to the "test1" hypertext link on page 3 of the PDF.
Thanks for any help.
best,
Paul

Check the "Parameters for Openinig PDF Files" document at <a<br />href="http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf">http://www.adob e.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf</a>. It says: <br /><br />When opening a PDF document from a command shell, you can pass the parameters to the open command using the /A switch with the following syntax:<br /><br /><Acrobat path> /A "<parameter>=<value>" "<PDF path>"<br /><br />For example:<br />Acrobat.exe /A "zoom=1000" "C:\example.pdf"<br /><br />Use the page or destination parameter (if you add destinations to the PDF). I tried it with the page parameter and it worked.<br /><br />--GMc

  • Quicktime opening PDF link files on the web

Since updating to Tiger when I click on a PDF file on the web Quicktime opens it but only shows the first page and I see no method to go to next page. I have overcome this by right clicking on a link and downloading file and right clicking to open with Adobe. I have checked quicktime preferences and clicked off anything with PDF file type. This happens with either Camino or Firefox.
How do I eliminate quicktime from opening PDF links?
How do I open files automatically with either Adobe or Preview?
    Thanks

    1. Select a PDF file in the Finder.
    2. Select File->Get Info (or Command-I keystroke)
    3. Expand Open with section of the Get Info window.
    4. Select the application you would like the PDF to
    open with.
    5. Click the Change All button have all PDF open with
    your selected application.
    Good luck,

    TK Thanks for your response.
I had already done what you are suggesting and it resulted in any PDF documents in my computer opening directly with Adobe. However with Camino or firefox clicking on a PDF web link Quicktime opens it with the same results mentioned. I have Acrobat reader 7.0.5 and Adobe PDF viewer plugin 7.0.9
I don't know why the plugin isn't activated.

  • FF 6.0 doesn't open pdf-links, after clicking on "open pdf" error message says file not supported or damaged. IE opens file all right. Please advice.

Firefox 6.0 doesn't open pdf-links after clicking on "open pdf". I frequently need to do literature searches and I need to view pdf files in the browser. After clicking on the pdf - link of a file the main options are to open or download the pdf. Every time I try to open a pdf-file a blank page and an error message appears saying the file would not be supported or is damaged. IE, however, opens the file all right. I tried various changes in the security and cookie settings without success. Please advice.

    Hi SGckc,
This document is almost certainly a dynamic XFA form. Unfortunately, our mobile Reader does not support displaying or filling such forms. The application that produces this form embeds this message into the document so that non-supportive viewers (like ours) will display this "error" page when the document opens. I do realize that this is confusing and I would like to add some additional detection to our Reader for this case. However, we've avoided doing this for fear of confusing users even further. Your feedback helps though. Hopefully we'll find a way to detect this case and present a better message to the user like: This form is not supported by the mobile version of the Adobe Reader. Please open and fill it on the non-mobile version of the Adobe Reader for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.
    Thank you for contacting us!

  • Can not open pdf links

For some reason I can no longer open pdf links.  When I click on a link to a pdf file, a new tab opens but the file does not dowload or display.  This happens in  both Safari and Firefox.
Can someone tell me what might be wrong?  I have AcrobatPro installed.
    Thanks

  • Can't open PDF links in Safari

Hi, only since a couple of days ago, I couldn't open PDF links in Safari. The page loads but nothing appears in the new window or tab.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Did you recently install Adobe Reader or is it installed in your system? If not, Safari's preference folder may be corrupt. To create a new preference file go to the Finder, drag to the desktop the com.apple.safari.plist folder found in your User Account>Library>Preferences folder.
Restart Safari and try a PDF. It ought to open within the browser. Also, you'll need to reset your custom preferences, plus any custom settings in the Edit (spelling) or View (status bar, bookmarks bar, custom icons etc.) menus.
If Adobe Reader is installed, and you want the PDF to open in the Safari Browser, go to your Internet Plug-ins Folder (Main or User Library in your Finder) and remove the Adobe plug-in.

  • Opening pdf link in chm.

Opening pdf link in chm works fine in previews. But when chm is open elsewhere, clicking on pdf links result in showing a blank page with a broken file icon.

    Welcome to the forum.
Please take a look at the sticky posts to help us help you.
There is no indication of what version of Rh you are using. Also I don't follow why you have posted in the WebHelp forum when your problem is with a CHM.
Please see this post. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1223035 Is your scenario the same?

    How to solve this issue?

    Hi,
You will have to check this with the person who is upporting our portal applications. From the error description it does not look like there is any thing wrong with CATS application as such.

  • Error in opening PDF generated through HAP_DOCUMENT(ESS/MSS)

User is getting an error while opening the PDF generated through "Print" functionality of appraisal document(HAP_Document).
There is a problem i'am facing in this BSP's,when i click on PRINT after creating Appraisal,it will ask me to either open or save in pdf.
But when i open or save it and open it is giving me this message in Adobe
"Acrobat could not open u2018webforms.pdfu2019 because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasnu2019t correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."
Any body please guide me with a solution.
    With Regards,
    Surender Dahiya

    Hello Surender,
there may have been connection problems to your content repository when you tried to view this file. I would also recommend that you apply the latest version of the Acrobat Reader. I would recommend that you run a
trace on the RFC destination to your archive and see what errors are reported when this error occurs again.
    Best Regards,
    Deepak..

  • Can't open PDF files through shortcuts when upgraded to 9.2

Since I upgraded reader to 9.2, I cannot open PDF files from my email or any of the desktop links.  Only way is

  • Open PDF document through JavaFX

    Hello All,
I want to open pdf document when user clicks on "Help" link in JavaFX. PDF document is usually locally stored on user's machine.
How I can achieve this ?
    thnx in advance,
    Venky

Will it work for Linux ?No, of course.
I think you must do something like:
var params = [ 'cmd', '/c', pdfFilePath ]; on Windows
var params = [ 'open', pdfFilePath ] on Mac
var params = [ 'gnome-open', pdfFilePath ] on Linux with Gnome
var params = [ 'kde-open', pdfFilePath ] on Linux with KDE
    then your Runtime.getRuntime().exec(params);
You can catch exceptions if you are not sure of the platform (particularly Gnome vs. KDE): if raised, try something else...
That's how Processing does its open() function. (Untested in JavaFX...)

  • Reader opens pdf links in acrobat!

I'm doing this in Windows 7, with reader 9.2.0.
I'm writing a program that creates a html file, so that I can code my links in HTML, which is a language I am familiar with. All my links are directly to PDF files which are on the hard drive in a subfolder where the html file is located...
    So, I create a file named FILE.HTML
    Subfolder is named SUBFOLDER
In the subfolder is a file named FILE.PDF
Okay, so in my FILE.HTML I write a basic hyperlink to FILE.PDF.
if I open the file in any browser, and click the link, it now opens the PDF file as expected in READER, because reader is my default program for opening PDFs. Great.
But then, I convert the HTML file into a PDF. Great.
Now, I open the pdf version of my html file. It opens it in reader by default, so far so good.
But now, in reader, I hover my mouse over the link and it shows me the link is to FILE:\\\c:\blah\FILE.PDF... Exactly the same as what I see when I hover my mouse over the link in any webbrowser when I have the html file open.
But when I click the link in reader, a stupid box pops up saying something along the line of "warning, you are attempting to connect to ... PDF!! please click allow to make this stupid box go away." and I click allow. I wish it didn't show that message on local pdf files, it's just dumb. Anyway, I click allow.
And it sits there for like 10 seconds, and then finally it opens it... but IT OPENS IT IN ACROBAT! WHY!!
I need it to open my links in reader.
Please do NOT ask me to make my links using some other method. I need to use this exact method of first having the links in html format, and then exporting it from html to pdf, and the links need to open in READER... which is the default program on my computer for pdfs. Obviously reader is intentionally ignoring my system's settings and choosing to open pdfs in acrobat. I need it to not do this, because I will be giveing these pdfs with links to clients of mine and they will be really annoyed if every time they click a link it opens in acrobat, because acrobat takes way longer to open than reader and these people will be in a hurry. Help!!
    Aaron

I do not know why it behaves that way; all I know is that having Adobe Reader and Acrobat on the same system is not supported for versions before 10.  Only Adobe Reader X and Acrobat X function well together.

  • Open PDF link in new browser window?

I'm viewing a newly created PDF in a browser.
When clicking an internal link, the linked PDF loads into the same window
I need it to launch in a new browser window.
I have set the link to "launch new window" in Word where this file originated.
I have also opened and resaved it in Acrobat 10 with preference "Open cross-document links in same window" deselected.
Neither of these setting have change the behavior though all documentation I read seems to suggest they should.
    What am I missing here??
    -Blake

That preference setting does not apply to web links and do not refer to a browser window, but an Acrobat window.
There is a JavaScript method that might work. Try setting the link action to something like the following script:
    app.launchURL("http://www.example.com/", true);
This was taken from the example here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.150.html
The problem is if a user has Reader 10 and protected mode is enabled (as it is by default), it doesn't work and opens the link in the same browser window.

  • Adobe Reader fails to open pdf links on internet websites

My computer is running Windows 7, Norton AntiVirus, Internet Explorer 9 and Adobe Reader X. I am able to open and view pdf file attachments in e-mail messages, but am not able to open or view pdf files from website links or web-based sources. When a link is selected, a new window opens, but the screen remains gray while the blue circular "hourglass" icon spins. Eventually an error message appears which states "Internet Explorer has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution to the problem." It is very inconvenient not to be able to open pdf files this way. Can anyone recommend a solution to this problem? Thank you!

Can You give an example of website where it does not work? I would like to check it from my machine (as I also have the same problem with links opening new window with PDF).
@Ankit_Jain: I also wrote about that problem here on forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/959677?tstart=0 I am able to reproduce it for simple case (see first and last post). Perhaps if someone from Adobe can follow my example it will be easier to figure out what is happening...

  • Opening PDF links in IE8 - show URL

    Hi there
In IE8 it seems pdf links automatically open up in Adobe Pro or Reader rather than in the browser. Previously it opened up in the browser and showed the URL. I've tried changing the setting in Adobe Pro and Reader - Preferences - Internet - Display PDF in browser, and still no change?
OR do you know of a way to find the URL when it opens up in Adobe Pro or Reader? I need to use the URL which is why I need to open the pdf in a browser.
I am not an advanced user - any help appreciated!
    thanks!
