Opening pdf without saving.

How do I just open a pdf on line without having it be saved to my computer each time?

When I click on the file while I am on line, the image always saves to my computer before I can open it. Then I need to delete it when I am done. This just started recently, I think when I upgraded to v11.

Do you know what kind of docs they are? Did you upgrade/Update Firefox lately?

  • I would like to open attachments without saving them. Is there a way to do that in Firefox like in IE ?

It is nice to open an attachment without saving it to a specific location. I am used to doing this with Internet Explorer. However,
it does not seem that I can do that with Firefox. Is that true or am I missing something ?

Goto Options > Applications > Click on 'Action' of the file that you want to change the properties of to: Save File/Always Ask or choose a program to open it with.
    Click OK to save.

  • Adobe won't give me the option to 'open' files without saving.

I was not able to open .pdf files at all and realised that Adobe Reader had somehow 'gone' from my laptop. I have reinstalled the latest version but if I want to 'open' an attachment in n email it will only give me the option to 'Save' the file. I don't want to Save every file. Can someone please advise me how to get back the option to just ' open' the file?

I use Internet Explorer for my browser.
A/A - I have reinstalled the latest version of AdobeReader.
When I click an attachment to view it, the first option I am given is to 'save' the file, and then the next pop up message gives me the option to either 'open' or 'view file'. The thing is that I don't want to 'save' each file to my laptop to allow me to see it. I want to be able to merely 'open' the file to view aithout actually saving it first.

  • HT204365 Unable to open PDF document saved on ibooks.

Saved a downloaded pdf document on iBooks, and now I am unable to open it. The original is NLA so redownloading is not an option.
Any way to recover the document? Any recommendations are welcome.

PDF files should be forward compatible, but not backward compatible. Thus, AA5 PDFs should still be fine. If there is a problem, it is likely they have been corrupted. You can open the PDF in a text editor (such as notepad) and look at how it starts. It should be something like "%PDF-1.4" where the %PDF-1.4 at the beginning provides the version number. If you do not see this form of the first 8 characters, then you do not have a PDF or the PDF is corrupt. The latter could happen depending on the manner in which you transferred the file to view. DO NOT Save the file from the editor.
A common mistake is to post PDFs with FTP using ascii. Unfortunately, only the 1st 8 characters are necessarily ascii and the rest may be binary -- the issue that messes up many e-mail programs that only check the first few characters for the ascii nature.
Hopefully that gives some thoughts of use.

  • How do I sign multiple fields in a pdf without saving untill the end?

I have Acrobat 9 and I am trying to put in 20-50 signature fields all to be signed by the same person in one to however many sittings.  For every signature it prompts to "Save As".  I work in the medical field so all our training is tied up in medical topics plus computers are not the favorite but needed medium.  I need it to sign with only a quick prompt to agree to sign for each one then save to the same pdf or save as if decided after the person is done signing what they need for that day.  After all signatures are signed a final ending one to lock all the rest would be nice.  The signatures are replacing initials for training topics with the final being the "I have been training to proper levels and agree to the assessment" kind of statment.  So this thing can't be signed in one day but multiple have to be signed in one sitting with some ease if anyone is to use it.  I would real like to get this thing going if anyone can help.

I hate to say it, but adding 20-50 signatures to a document isn't efficient, and by that I mean Acrobat doesn't handle that many signatures efficiently. Part of the problem is Acrobat must verify each digital signature separately and it will end up slowing things down for you (and by slowing things down I mean effectively locking up the computer). Every time you add another signature Acrobat validates all of the previous signatures to ensure the document integrity for the signature being created. Also, every time the file is opened each signature would get verified.
That said, you could (and this is only a suggestion) author the file using checkboxs and then using one digital signtaure at the end of the process that locks the file so the checkboxes can't be changed

  • Cannot open  pdf files saved from Safari

I can read large pdf files from websites opened in Safari but when I save them and later try to open them with Adobe reader I get the following error message
Adobe Reader could not open 'ACOS-2013-final.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
This appears to only have happened when I installed the latest security update for the iMac

  • [AS][CS5] Photoshop script no longer opening PDFs without prompt

set this_folder to (choose folder with prompt "Pick the folder containing the PDF files to process:" ) as string
    tell application "System Events"
set these_files to every file of folder this_folder
    end tell
repeat with i from 1 to the count of these_files
set this_file to (item i of these_files as alias)
set this_info to info for this_file
if visible of this_info is true and alias of this_info is false and name extension of this_info is "pdf" then
set myFilePath to ((this_folder & name of this_info) as string)

                with timeout of 300 seconds
open alias myFilePath as PDF with options {class:PDF open options, mode:CMYK, resolution:300, use antialias:true, page:1} showing dialogs never
                end timeout
            end tell
        end if
    end repeat
The above was working when I wrote it.
The next time I tried to use it it fails to open the PDF.
    What I get:
Error: 8800. General Photoshop error occurred.
This functionality may not be availble in this version of Photoshop. - <no additional information available>
Removing the 'showing dialogs never' causes Photoshop to ask me what files to open and how to handle the PDF.
    Changing the tell to say:
    tell application "Adobe Acrobat"
    open alias myFilePath
    end tell
Opens all the PDFs as I expected it to because the file alias is valid. I have appropriate file access.
set this_folder to (choose folder with prompt "Pick the folder containing the PDF files to process:" ) as string
    tell application "System Events"
set these_files to every file of folder this_folder
    end tell
repeat with i from 1 to the count of these_files
set this_file to (item i of these_files as alias)
set this_info to info for this_file
if visible of this_info is true and alias of this_info is false and name extension of this_info is "pdf" then
set myFilePath to alias ((this_folder & name of this_info) as string)
            tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1"
                with timeout of 300 seconds
open  myFilePath as PDF with options {class:PDF open options, mode:CMYK, resolution:300, use antialias:true, page:1} showing dialogs never
                end timeout
            end tell
        end if
    end repeat
    Results in an error:
    File some object wasn't found
So anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

It may be but I have not been able to figure it out.
    Thanks.

  • I can't open PDFs without signing up to "special offers"!?

    Hi guys!
I've got a weird problem with my iPad. I "updated" it to iOs7 a while ago, and somehow managed to delete all of my apps. I downloaded them all again, including Quickoffice, which used to sync up to my Dropbox account and let me share files with my laptop. Today, I tried to add a PDF that I needed to read into my Dropbox account and open it on my iPad. I could see the file in my folder, but when I clicked it, it led to a link and a button saying "download". When I click that, I got a screen saying:
If you can't see the link, it says "your download will be ready in a moment" then tells me that I have to sign up to one of four offers before I'll be able to access my download.
I thought "f*** that" and download the Dropbox app instead. The same thing happened. Feeling thoroughly annoyed that I wasn't allowed to access my own files, I tried emailing it to myself. The same thing, again!!
What's happening? Has Apple thoroughly sold out, or do I have a "virus" on my iPad (as suggested by a friend)? I didn't think you could get them, but perhaps so...

If you are trying to download/open the same PDF in all three instances, I would say it is the PDF file causing the problem. Where did this PDF come from? If it came from somewhere on the internet, that's where the blame lies. It has nothing to do with Apple and it is not a virus.

  • Can't open pdf files from my hard drive

I have a problem. I'm using windows Vista Home Premium. When I'm trying to open pdf file saved in a folder on hard drive "open with" window appears. I click browse, then \Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRD32.exe, then ok and nothing happens. I have "open with window" with no changes. Just like I didn't choose any program to open pdf file. Pdf files should be associated to acrobat reader after instaling but they are not. I can't associate them manually. Everything works fine when I'm opening pdf files in IE7 or run AcroRD32.exe and then file->open. The same was with Reader 8.1.2. I uninstalled it and install 9.0.0 but it didn't help. No idea what to do. Please help.

    Have a look at
    http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/236/1/Unable-to-open-PDF-attachments-from-Windows-Ma il.html
It looks like you have to remove any existing associations before
trying to apply the correct ones.
