Opening PDFs - Calibri Font

I often convert Word Docs to PDFs, and use Illustrator to edit the pages. When I try to open a PDF that has been converted from a Word Doc employing the font Calibri, I get random characters, even though Calibri is installed. Any ideas?

el cheque,
I believe that (slight) mismatch may be the reason. Illy is rather particular about font identity.
When you look into your Fonts folder, do you have two (families of) Calibri fonts?
Do both show up in Worst, and do both show up in Illy (one of them may have a name with a different appearance, possibly starting with something else and therefore a bit more difficult to find)?
What happens if you move the TTF font out of the Fonts folder (you can always move it back in) and then change the font to something else in Worst and change back to Calibri, then try again in Illy?

  • PDF Print - Numeric&bold Calibri font is printed not properly on Windows 7 (on XP - OK)

In MS CRM 4.0 system I generate reports using Reporting Services (10.0.4067.0  - 2008 SP2 + MS12-070). Then I export them to PDF.
Font which is used - Calibri. In PDF file everything is displayed properly. When I print that PDF in Adobe Reader (Windows 7), then bold&numbers are wrong (bigger, smaller captions - looks like diffrent font). When I print the same file on the same printer
using Windows XP, then everything is ok!
I've tried to switch Calibri font in Win7 (taken from XP) - still the same problem. I've installed Foxit Reader on that machine and print is good! Unortunately, it has to be Adobe.
Only one case that is wrong - Win 7, Adobe Reader (X and XI). What can be the reason?

    Hi simon17,
As per my understanding, I think this issue is caused by the Adobe Reader. I think you can try the following methods to check the issue again:
    Check for Adobe Updates.
    Try the Repair Adobe Installation
    Run Adobe as Administrator.
Since this issue is related to Adobe Reader, not related to Reporting Services. If this issue still exists, I suggest you post the question in Adobe Reader forum at:

  • Embedded Calibri font problem in UNIX

    Hi,
We have created a PDF template in Microsoft Windows. It contains properties and the values for the properties are assigned using Java through an external tool. We have embedded the Calibri font into the template. But when we try to open it in UNIX, it gives an error message saying Cannot extract the embedded font Calibri. Some characters may not display or print correctly. We are using Acrobat reader version 8.1.2 in windows and 7.0.8 in UNIX. Is the Calibri font compatible with UNIX? If its not, how can we solve this issue. Any suggestion on solving this is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sasanga

    Hi Ganesh,
Thanks for the quick response. Since those templates are client confidential we are not authorized to send those outside the organization. Appreciate if you could let me know what might be the cause of this issue.
    Thanks,

  • Since 10.4.6 Update: "ATSServer" with high CPU-usage when opening PDFs

Since I've updated to 10.4.6 my system is very slow when I open PDFs (in "Preview" or "Acrobat").
This is caused by the process "ATSServer" which goes through every file in "~/Library/Fonts" (I have over 4.800 files there - but just a view are activated by "FontBook") and so it takes very high CPU-usage.
I didn't have this problem bevore the update and I didn't make any changes on my font settings.
I've cleaned the font cache, but it doesn't help.
    Any ideas?

I haven't noticed any change myself, Dan, but I have the 2 GHz model.
One thing I HAVE noticed though after OS updates is that they can often result in a fair amount of file and free space fragmentation immediately after installation. OSX's routines will deal with fragmentation of small files , but not of large ones (over 20 Meg), and it won't deal very effectively with free space fragmentation. If your HD is getting full this can cause significant slowdowns, especially where video is involved.
You should also run DiskUtility and check for any directory and permissions issues.

  • Crystal Report to PDF change fonts, cut text and change lines

    Post Author: jzwanziger
    CA Forum: Exporting
Hello all, I am using Crystal Reports v10 and I created my report. The report works fine and the export function works fine in some particular servers. We were developing under Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 using Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1. We created the deployment and in our testing servers works fine (Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP these machines doesn't have any development tool).
When we installed the same deployment (MSI) file in the customer Windows Server 2003, the exporting function to PDF or using it the Crystal Reports viewer doesn't work (Same worng thing that is displayed in the viewer is in the PDF). We had detected labels cut in the middle, some fields changed the font size or alignment and some lines move it up, down or growing. Obviously this looks like a environment problem, but we don't have any idea how to fix it, or what is missed.
We tried to install, Windows Service Pack 2, install Acrobat Reader v8, verified the dll's, try to install the "dbex10win_en.zip" hot fix (we were not able to install it, setup file fail due some registry inconsistencies), Validate that the fonts are the same, and nothing fix the problem.
Could somebody help us, we are a little desperate.
thanks in advace for any idea.

    See [this|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=29094456&messageID=7206473] forum thread for possible clues to a resolution. In a nut shell, as long as the Calibri font is up to date, the other two steps are;
    1) Ensure you are using the latest Service Pack as suggested by Jonathan
    2) See what USP10.dll is loading (use the [Modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip] utility)
Also, if this is a win app, compile it to an exe and run the exe to see if the issue persists. (when running the app exe, the USP10 loaded should be from the CR bin directory. when running ion the .NET environment, the USP10 will load from win\system or other)

  • Calibri font not printing - created with Acrobat XI pro 11.0.4 in Word 2007

Hi, we recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat XI pro (11.0.4) and when we create a PDF in Word using the Calibri fonts, it doesn't print when using Adobe Reader X.
Prints ok when using Quark or other software, just not working with Office.

    Thanks for your answer.
We are in a controlled office environment and unfortunately we cannot receive updates due to company policies. We have to wait until they do another "package" with an upgraded version.
It's printing ok with Adobe Reader XI, but not Reader X (which is our actual default Reader). And again they cannot install Reader XI to all (only me since I'm a graphic designer, I have admin rights). We tried on other printers, not working too. Font is embeded too. It's working when using another PDF maker (like we have PDF X Change, it's working). Was working also with our previous Acrobat X Pro.

  • How to open PDFs in Safari 8.0

Been frustrated for a couple days now. Up until mid last week, I've been able to open PDFs inside the safari browser no problem.  I think this ended up changing in the latest Yosemite update.  Opening PDFs inside the safari window, not in a different tab is particularly crucial for my job, I use an agent webportal that requires PDFs to be filled out inside the browser window and submitted as such.
I've had this happen a few times, usually it was fixed by deleting the adobe plugins in the internet plugins folder and/or simply resetting the safari browser back to default. What I've tried so far:
uninstalling/reinstalling both reader and acrobat multiple times.
deleting the plugins from the internet folder multiple times.
tried switching up the default pdf view app, no change.
tried as best as i could find to reset the settings on safari, but inside yosemite there appears to not be a reset option to bring it back to default.
Honestly I'm at my wits end here with this thing. I've been using VMWare and windows 7 to complete the stuff I can't do in safari on IE.
Is there something I haven't tried and/or does anyone know how to fully reset safari back to default in yosemite?

  • Adobe Reader Error in Opening PDF Form

Why do I get this error message when I try to open PDF Application Form using Adobe Reader?
"Error encountered while processing node xfa[0].form[0].form1[0].#subform[5].ApplicationEligibility[0]. Unable to find suitable font for Japanese encoding."

Hi Deepak - I am a different user with the same problem as the guy above. I created a form in LiveCycle and when users open it in Reader it gives the error:
"Error encountered while processing node xfa[0].form[0].form1[0].#subform[0].#draw[2]. Unable to find suitable font for Japanese encoding."
Before I try to recreate the form from scratch, do you know how to fix this? For the record, the form was NOT built using any Japanese fonts.

  • Text in Calibri font not displaying in LibreOffice 4

    Hi,
I have recently opened a document in LibreOffice Calc and noticed that the document is text-less, but the highlights, borders and images are present. However, I can see the text content at the editbar above when I click on the cells. All the text is in Calibri font. When I change the font to something else, the text content appears correctly.
I then tested Calibri font in LibreOffice Writer and the outcome is the same: Calibri text content does not appear at all. I did a further test on other app like KWrite, however Calibri font can be displayed correctly. Tried disabling embedded bitmap in fontconfig also made no difference.
I performed a full system update and also tried switching between freetype2 and freetype2-infinality and the result is the same: LibreOffice 4 cannot display Calibri text content. Appreciate if someone can help me with this issue. Thanks.
My system (64-bit) has the following:
    - KDE 4.10.4
    - LibreOffice 4.0.4
    - freetype2-infinality
    - ttf-ms-win8
Note: The Calibri font is obtained directly from my other Win8 installation. The issue affects all Calibri fonts, i.e. Light, Italics, Bold, etc.

It is possible, but unlikely. Most other distros use an older version of LibreOffice, hence the lack of bug reports. It is more likely that it is a LibO bug, and as mentioned on the Arch bug tracker, you should look into filing it with the LibO devs
There are coments in this topic which say that with the official build it works. I had to try for myself. So:
    - downloaded from libreoffice website the rpm tar gz
    - extracted the tgz
    - went into RPMS directory and run: for file in *.rpm; do rpmextract.sh $file; done
    - whent into opt/libreoffice4.0 and run program/soffice
Opened the same document and surprise, now I see the Calibri letters (Calibri font had to be installed, of course).
Now, quickly, run /usr/bin/soffice, open the same document and see.... nothing.
So, to resume: the official build works, the Arch build does not.
Again, why is the Arch bug closed and suggested to report to LibreOffice?
Does not compute... Should I include pictures?

  • Type not showing when opening pdf in Illustrator

Here's a strange problem that I don't recall having seen before.
I have a pdf file with diagrams of cupboards and tables with measurements. Everything looks o.k.
I open it in Illie (CS3) and everything shows up except the type. It is point type and only the points are there. I can drag over the type where the letters should be and there IS something there (coloured black according to the Color palette) but no recognizeable letters. I tried copying the type from the pdf and pasting into Illie but still no luck. I have the font (Syntax Roman) but the only way I can get it to work properly is to type the text in again manually. Any ideas please?

InDesign created this PDF and made the font a CID Identity-H font (not opentype, but similar in the respect that it has many more characters)
I am not an expert on this topic so you may get a better response reposting this here or in the acrobat forum with a new topic (eg:  converting PDF CID fonts to .ai).
This tech note shows how to fix the problem if you have the original InDesign file.

How do you open a .pdf file in pages? I received new letterhead and I would like to be able to use it. I cannot open the .pdf file to make changes or add text. Any suggestions? Interesting question, since the question shows a problem in documentation.
The idea behind Adobe PostScript and Adobe PDF is to create a page description that is INDEPENDENT of the authoring application and the font software used in the authoring application.
The authoring application writes its internal format into the external format of a page description and the internal format is lost - the page description is not editable.
There are two applications that can open PDF, Adobe Illustrator whose internal format was the source of the PDF format, and Adobe Acrobat editions other than the free Reader.
However, editing the PDF does not work well even for very, very limited changes and for major changes editing does not work at all.
PDF was billed as 'Paper without the chase' when it was introduced in 1993. It is intended as a passive container format for presentation information.
