Opening period (schedule margin key) in forward scheduling

Please advise whether opening period is used in forward scheduling that we specify in schedule margin key? if not, what will be the reason?

Hi,
Opening period is used only in Backword scheduling.
b'cause opening period is period of workdays deducted from the start date to determine the creation date of order.

  • MRP & schedule margin key issue

    Hi All,
My client is running MRP on daily basis they have maintained schedule margin key 001 with opening period as 0010.but while running MRP & MD04 they
    found below are the issues.
We have tested many times using SMK as 000 & 0010 but every time system displayed below errors.
Some times they are not getting the purchase requisition created in time (System should drop the purchase Requisitions according to parameters maintained in material master).
Some time system creates planned order instead of Purchase Requisition (Their requirement is to create purchase requisition always)
They get the exception message past due planned order
As per my understanding there will be problem in buffer period. How can we avoid these exception messages & how can we create always PR instead of pl order.
I will appericate if anybody suggest me how can we rectify above mentioned causes.
    Thanks,
    Ravindra.

    Hi Caetano /Ram
Thank you for replies.I have following doubts on your reply
I understood if I create Variant including only PR system will display always PR in MD04.
1.If I run MRP using option 2 PR in opening period in this case system behave like same or do I need to include this parameter in variant
2.How can I avoid exception message"Past open due" for Ex :- 10,20,30 etc... permentaly in MRP run?
I have not tested solution yet I hope if I create MRP group & during background MRP run if I create variant with parameter 1 (PR only) it will create PR.
Can you pls assist on SMK? For your clarification check below is my actual scenario
if I assigned SMK with 000 (All periods like opening period,FAP,FBP & release period is 000) then what happen in MRP run if I made your suggested setting is system means it will always create  PR.
    If I assigned SMK with 001(opening period 0010,FBP 5,FAP 2 ,release period =5) also
    if I maintained GR time= 2 days,
Pl.delivery time =10 days  in this case will above setting  work? if i run MPR using opening Period as well as PR only.
Kindly correct me if i am wrong.
    Thanks,
    Ravindra

  • Schedule margin key

i am a beginner in SAP.
could some one tell me how to find the appropriate 'Schedule margin key'.
i was trying to create a new material under a new plant.
so while filling the 'Schedule margin key' tab what should i type, how can i find the appropriate schedule
margin key. what is the rule for that .when i type some value randomly ,the following message displays
the message says as " the scheduling margin key  does not exist for the plant"
could some one can help me.
    thanks
    zuhair

    Dear Zuhair,
    1) As i already told you, schedule margin key is for defining floats or Production scheduler
    2) Floats are basically calculated in Days
    3) if you press F4 for the schedule margin key then u can see
    4) float before production float after production release period
    5) this are nothing but  the days ( or extra days ) are given for production scheduler
for converting plan order to production order
    6) and if we are maintaining floats ( schedule margin key ), then this will be copied to
production order. even scheduling considers this floats & calculates dates for plan order
    Hope This Helps You

  • Scheduling Margin key ( Float before production - Float after production)

    Dear Expert ,
I maintain in material master float before and after production
When i rescheduling in house production in routing and display the result i found the time for float is calculated in Interoperation time
And I as i know Scheduled start & Scheduled finish determined the production dates only & FBefProd is time between basic start and Scheduled start and FAftProd is the time between Scheduled finish date & basic finish date
Why he put it there at the time it's not actually maintained in production date ?
    Regards
    Rami

    Dear,
In the routing, click on scheduling result push button,
Here you can see how this interoperatioon time is calculated
how much is Float before and after production.
    example-
    schedule margine key - 001
float before production - 2 day
Float after production - 1 days
Routing data- for 1 qty - 24 hrs
After you schedule in routing and see the details of scheduling result, the following result
    Basic start date - 30.11.2008
    Basic finish date - 03.12.2008.
    Scheduled start date - 02.12.2008
    Scheduled finish date - 02.12.2008.
    base qty - 1 TO
    Processing time - 1 day
interoperation time - 3(all inclding floats)
Total inhouse production time - 4 days
Now repeat it for 2 qty, results are as below
    Basic start date - 30.11.2008
    Basic finish date - 04.12.2008.
    Scheduled start date - 02.12.2008
    Scheduled finish date - 03.12.2008.
    base qty - 2 TO
    Processing time - 2 day
interoperation time - 3(all inclding floats)
Total inhouse production time - 5 days
I hope you got the idea.

  • Make optional from material master of Schedule Margin Key

    Hi PP Guys
I am using MRP Type PD & there is no floats in schedule margin key.
So client want make a optional of schedule margin key from material master.
I tried from L-G --> Material Master --> Field Selection --> Assign Fields to Field Selection Gruops / Mainatin Field Selectio to data Screens.
Bur here this filed is optional.
I think some relation from MRP Type or What ?.
    Pls suggest.
    Regards
    Ashish

    Dear Asish,
This is the required master data to create order also, based on this only all your order dates are calculated, like when to release the order, start and finish and finaly material available to dispatch.
So for MRP calculation and to promise the delivery to sale order also it is must.
When u create order this gets copied to the order this u can see in production order Genaral data tab.
    i hope u r clear

  • Configuration of Scheduling Margin Key

    Good day!
Where can I add a "scheduling margin key"?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    There are many paths for defining the same;
Go to path SPRO > Materials Management > Consumption-Based Planning > Planning > Define Floats (Scheduling Margin Key) and add it for your Plant.
Also you an add it in path SPRO > Production > Material Requirements Planning > Planning > Scheduling and Capacity Parameters > Define Floats (Scheduling Margin Key)
Also SPRO > Production > Shop Floor Control > Operations > Scheduling > Define Scheduling Margin Key
Also you can maintain under transaction OPPQ for you Plant under "Floats" button.

  • Scheduling Margin Key

    Hello Friends
This is regarding inspection lot, as per my knowldge, Inspection lot will be based on purchse order item level. Is lot will be based on PO header level. if so could u please explain and the details?
    Thanks
    Vijayakumar TVN

    Hi,
Inspection lot will be based on PO Item level.
When ever purchasing team do Gr with respect to PO inspection lot will be created
so when ever there is a GR one Inspction lot will created
For example if there is a PO for 100Kg and during GR the buyer will do GR 100 kg for 5 times
From my understanding 5 inspection lot will be created
Set Control inspection lot to 'X' (For each purchase order item, batch and
storage location) for inspection type 01, in the inspection setup tab in
    material master.

  • MRP- Forward Scheduling

    Hi Team,
I have requirement that during MRP run (MD02), planned order to be created for my FERT item with "Forward schedjuling". I understand that MRP always performed with "Backward Scheduling" by default. But i have below clarifications.
Q1: If i set the scheduling type as 'Forward Scheduling" in OPU5 for my plant & order type (LA), still MRP run in MD02 performs "Backward scheduling"?
Q2: How the basic start date & basic end date for my planned orders are calculated during MRP using "Forward Scheduling" with the below assumptions.
    Assumptions:
    1. In OPU5, for my plant & order type "LA" "Forwad scheduling" is set
    2. I do not have routing for my FERT item & i have default operation set in OPJG for my order type & plant
    3. In house production time is maintained as 2 days in my FERT material master
    4. I have BOM for my FERT item which has only one ROH item.
    5. For the ROH item, in my material master, i have set the planned delivery time as 3 days.
    6. For the ROH item, the current stock in the plant is ZERO.
    7. GR Processing time for both the FERT & ROH item is ZERO.
    8. All the days are working day in my plant except saturday & Sunday
    9. In MD04, i do not have any entries for my FERT item except the below PIR quantity of 5
    10. In MD04, i do not have any entries for my ROH item
    11. I did not maintain any schedule margin key for my FERT & ROH item in my material master.
With the above assumptions, i have created the PIR for my FERT item on 01.08.2014 for the quantity 5.
Q3: With this condition, if run MRP for my FERT item, what will be the "basic start date" & "basic end date" for my FERT planned order & what will be the "basic start date" & "basic end date" for my ROH planned order?
Your valuable guidance will be very much needed. Currently i do not have test system to test this case. hence need your valuable comments
    Thanks

    Hi Caetano,
I have read the document provided by you. Still i can not clear on some points.
    The document says that:
For a planned order created by MRP, you observe the following symptoms:
MRP considers the requirement date as basic finish date and calculates the basis start date using backward scheduling
The planned order basic finish date is equal to the requirement date and it is not adjusted according to the production finish date.
As per the above statement after running MRP in MD02 with "Scheduling" type as "Lead Time Scheduling & Capacity Planning", the basic dates are determined with "BACKWARD SCHEDULING" (even though  in OPU5 i have mentioned the scheduling type as "FORWARD") as below screen shot & also the "Basic dates" are NOT adjusted even though in OPU5, i have mentioned as "Adjust basic dates & adjust dep.req date to operation date" which is right as per the system design which can not be changed.
Note: I have kept the in house production time as 5 days for my FERT item in material master.
My question is "How the Production dates" are derived during MRP run (refer in the above screen shot). In the routing, i have maintained the labour time as "42.5 hours" for 1 base quantity.
Note: I have maintained the in house production time as 5 days in material master & in routing the labour hours as 42.5 hours (equal to 5days considering 8.5 hours as working hours per day). So the data maintained in material master & in routing are synchronized (CA97)
    Thanks

  • Opening Period

    Dear Experts,
What is opening period for planned orders/ MRP? How do we set it up?
    Regards,
    Sachin

    Dear Sachin,
    1) Opening period can be define in schedule margin key, while scheduling the Number of days
Maintained in Schdule margin key will be taken by system in MRP
    2) in initail settings of MRP we have option Create Purchase Requisition in opening period
means MRP creates Pur Req in Opening period.
    Also Plz refer this thread

  • Whenever system does the forward scheduling for the external procurement ,

    Dear Guru,
In one of plant i have a typical problem.
Whenever system does the forward scheduling for the external procurement , system does not takes Todays date (MRP Run date).
System simply sifted the requirement date by 30 days. and scheduled accordingly. In the expection message system shows the correct requirement date.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Sanjay

    Dear ,
Can you let us know what value you're using for Scheduling when you carry out MRP run 1 or 2 ? Are you getting Planned Order while running MRP ? Wht is the Lot Size  are you using in the MMR-MM02-MRP1 view ? Wht is GR processing Time and PDT?
Check the following in your case :
1.Go to Transaction code omi4- Select the MRP lot sizeGo to the "Scheduling" in the Tab Lot size for the short term period-
Check the Scheduling indicator : Requirement Date =Delivery Date  in MRP Lot sizing Procedure in OM14.Basically ,this indicator defines the time in the period the system is to create the availability date or the start date for the lot for period lot-sizing procedures.
2.Goto OPPQ-Carry All Overall plant parameters -Order Start date in the Past -Check wether you are marked.
3.Goto -OMEW-Check the PR processing time in days
    Regards

  • Back and forward scheduling

    hi gurus,
Is there any control key that how the system moves from backward scheduling to forward scheduling
    thanks
    raju

    Hi,
There is no control key for the system to do backward or forward scheduling.
these two are dependend on the material availability date and requested delivery date.
If the stock of the material is available , the system will do the backward schedule , if there is no stock the system will do the forward schedule.
the difference is the schedule line items in the sales order.
if one schedule line item then backward , if two schdedule line item in the sales order is two then forward scheduling
    thanks
