Opening PM5 files (without a Pagemaker program)

My company bought Pagemaker 5 a very long time ago. And the original install disc has since "disappeared". The last standing computer that had Pagemaker installed, recently had a major melt down and the program was unsalvagable.
We have several PM5 files that I would like to access somehow (whether it be purchasing a program that can read these files, or converting them in some way or even being able to get the program again) It would be nice if I can edit them, but if that is not possible, just to print would be awesome.
We're running Windows XP Professional service Pack 2.
I tried opening them in InDesign 2, and I guess InDesign can only read PM6 and up files. Is there a way to convert PM5 files to PM6 so I can access them in InDesign?

You can download a trial version of PM7 from here:

It will open a PM5 file and you should be able to save it as *.PMD for opening in InDesign.
You are likely to encounter missing fonts (which affects the composition but can be substituted) and missing images - I hope you can find them.

If you don't wish to listen to all playing videos and it is too much trouble to stop or close non-foremost player windows, then don't use the QT X (or any similar) media player for playback. My question concerns the impossibility to open RAW-files directly from the program Adobe Bridge. At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
The entire line of Adobe products on my computer updated to the latest updates. Previously, a family of products Adobe Photoshop on your computer is not set. Computer - PC, Windows 7 Enterprises.

Differents between open csv file by mannually and program automatically?

I haved been consfused by a problem deeply.
Why a csv file if already open can be detected by mannually. can't be detected by program automatically.
I verify this phenomenon by below procedure:
First:
Execute <simple_ErrCode_modify_by_NI2.vi> at both computer respectively.then open csv file mannually,thus two programs both can detect the csv file already
open. also can enter case5 and wait case5's loop.
Second:
Compare with First produre.firstly,execute <simple_ErrCode_modify_open_csv_atloop1.vi> in one computer , Adding while loop after open/creat/replace file ,thus
can maintain csv file open all the time.
secondly,execute <simple_ErrCode_modify_by_NI2.vi> in the other computer.I find that <simple_ErrCode_modify_by_NI2.vi> cann't enter case5.
Through above,
I confused that why program can detect csv file already open by mannually.

Why have thus two kinds of mechanism in labview .

If I understand your question, the answer lies in the access programs request when they open files. First, a program can have read-only, write-only or read-write access. Second, they can specify exclusive or nonexclusive access to a file. If a program requests and get exclusive access to a file, no other process can open it for any reason.
Now when you open a file manually, what you are really doing is opening it using the default program specified in Windows. So its a matter of how that program opens files.

.msi appear to be Windows Installer files.
You need to install Windows to install and run such files.

Opening a file WITHOUT double-clicking

In Windows one can open a file from Explorer either by double-clicking or by hitting the Return/Enter key.
In Mac OS X I can only open a file by double-clicking it. So far, using the keyboard I can only rename it (when I hit Return), or delete it (if I press Command+Return).
Is there a keyboard shortcut for opening a file? I am a keyboard person and, sometimes, when I navigate from one folder to another, I would like to open the file without moving my hand to get the mouse.

It's Command-o, for open, of course. As you discovered, pressing Return is the handy short-cut to high-light the file for renaming.

Cannot open data file to run registration program

I just bought my new laptop last week and after Ive added all my files (105G) and a few programs, this error message comes up upon startup "cannot open data file to run registration program". I was told by the Toshiba people to use a recovery cd but that it would reset my computer back to its original settings which i don't want to do. I have Vista and everything works fine but Id rather not get that message every time I boot up. Any suggestions?

No. The attached is the simplest way of modifying it to do as you want. I've

You already are. You're making the arrays as you go along so only the memory
needed for the data that's in the plot is in use at any one time. To do it
without storing
arrays at all you'd need to keep retrieving the data from
the XYgraph, adding the new datapoint and writing it back. Messy and I
suspect incredibly inefficient.
You're going to use the memory in any case- a better option would be to
pre-initialise an array and fill it slowly. At the end of each 24 hour block
zap all the data and start again without destroying and recreating the
arrays. Or if you're only doing the 24 hour wipes to save memory, simply
start again at the start of the buffer woithout erasing the previous data
and you always have 24 hours of data to liik at once the system's running.

Save or export an opened .mp4 file without re-encoding

How can I save or export an .mp4 file that I opened and trimmed without being required to re-encode it. I'm looking for an option to either save the .mp4 file without exporting, or export with a passthrough option such as the one available when using QuickTime Pro. Thanks.

Hmm, I would have expected inclusion of the basic feature set of QuickTime Pro to be a prerequisite for any commercial audio editing program.
The reason commercial audio editing programs don't work the way Quicktime Pro does is Quicktime Pro really isn't an audio app. If Quicktime is able to cut an trip an mp4 file (m4a, aac, whatever you call it) it's becaue it's editing the stream directly, probably similar to the way a file-splitter would work. MP3 was able to have this one too, one could chop an mp3 up in to parts without re-encoding...however, due to the way data is represente in a lossy format, you have several limitations in doing so.
Commercial Audio applications don't do this because it's not going to be done by professionals...even if Audition had this feature, it wouldn't be able to work the same as cutting a wave file. You have servere limitations on where you can cut a lossy audio file up without having to re-encode it.
Cutting the bitstream of an mp3 or m4a file is generally not a standard inclusion for any audio program...
But, remember, Quicktime is a "basic" video editor...not an audio editor nor should it be confused for one.

Can you open a file without default?

when i go to open a file, it opens with a default program, need to open it without anything, just by itself. It gets really annoying cause i cant find a simple fix. any help?

A .dmg file is a data file, and like other data files, it is not itself "executable" - it requires a separate app to open it when it is double-clicked. In the case of a .dmg file you don't normally notice that separate app because the app resides in the System folder, doesn't appear in the Dock when it runs, and quits automatically when its job of mounting the .dmg disk image is done. It exists, though - its name is DiskImageMounter.app and it is located in the /System/Library/CoreServices folder. If you do a Get Info on a ,dmg file and look at the "Open with" section it should look like this:

Can't move photos & "open" from file now hangs all programs

I downloaded the free Photoshop Album Starter that was offered with the Adobe Acrobat 7.07 upgrade. When I opened it, it started to automatically download my photos and I stopped it after a few files were loaded. I have so many photos it would have been a hard-drive space disaster to load them all.
I can no longer use the "move" command (although delete still works) in the microsoft picture manager list (I have microsoft XP Pro 2000) and whenever I use "open" from the file menu of any program the window opens with no files showing and cannot be closed. I have to use CTL/ALT/DEL to end the non-responding program. Needless to say this is more that inconvenient! I have the Creative Suite CS2 and don't really need this program. How do I safely remove it? I have read that others have lost photos in the process and that would not be good. I have been working on saving all my photos to CD's so that may not be a problem. I want my computer back to it's original working condition! Any suggestions and how do I let Adobe know about this?

I'm not quite sure I understand your concern. What are you downloading from
that has more images than your hard drive has space? Is it possible that you
confused downloading with indexing?
PSASE needs to catalog where your images are but it is not recreating them
or moving them. Please clarify.
At this point, you should uninstalled PSASE and reinstall. It sounds like
you corrupted something when you interrupted the job.

I mistakenly saved a download, and checked the "always do this for thid type of file" now I cannot open a file without saving it first, because it does not take me to that same dialog box.

When you open a file from an email, you get a dialog box Open or Save this file. I wanted to save a particular file, so I clicked Save. The problem is, I had already clicked on "do this every time for files like this" so now it won't give me the dialog box back for when I just want to open a file, not save it. I have searched Options, to no avail.

Need Help Opening PM5 Files

Can anyone out there assist me in opening a few PM5 files?
When I try with Page Maker 7 in Windows, it fails with an error along the lines of the file cannot be converted to a PC format and to a new version at the same time. I tried installing page maker 7 on my macbook but it fails saying that the classic environment is no longer supported.
If someone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

How to open a file with the assosiate program on suse????

i came to know that we can open a file with assosiated program on windows using "cmd /c start filename".
and i want the same functionality on suse linux.
in forums i found that "kfm filename" will do fine on linux.
i tried it on suse but no use at all.
i would appretiate the quick response and i would be very thankful
for the same.
