Opening Powerpoint 2007 file

I purchased iWork '08 a couple of weeks ago in order to open PowerPoint 2007 files on my computer at home. However when I download the PowerPoint file from the internet, it downloads as a folder (inside the folder is more folders labeled: _rels, docProps, ppt, with more folders inside them) instead of just a PowerPoint file. Keynote '08 wont open the folder.
Any ideas on different ways to download or save the file so that it will open?

Usually the Window menu allows you to adjust window placement in Microsoft Office products.
If not, connect an external display or projector and change the resolution to the maximum.
Save the document with the window residing on the main screen with the Dock.
That will force it to open on the main screen in the future.

An Apple salesman told me there is an add-on to open Office 2007 files in Office:Mac. Can someone point me to the download location for this? I'm a brand new Mac user so I'm still a little lost. Thanks!

The salesman was wrong. The converter is not yet available.

  • WORD 2010 Crashes Opening Word 2007 files

WORD 2010 crashes when opening Word 2007 files. If you save the files in Office 2007 as an RTF file, then open in WORD 2010 and save as a DOCX it works fine. Why can't WORD open legacy documents (these are not big files ~13 pages).
I have tried opening in safe mode, same effect - the doc opens and appears in the WORD window, and then the pop-up appears before you can do anything telling you that WORD 2010 has crashed.

Try using Open and Repair on the problem docs.
In the Open dialog, select the file, then click the arrow beside Open and choose Open and Repair
If that doesnt help you may want to check  the How to troubleshoot damaged documents in Word 2007 and in Word 2010

  • Cannot open QB 2007 file after installing R7 upgrade

I installed the Quickbooks Pro 2007 "upgrade" and then tried to open my old Quickbooks Pro 2007 for Mac company file.
1.) It asks me if I want to Upgrade the file (no choice)
2.) Then it simultaneously says "Working" and gives me a warning about the file not being able to be renamed and that I have to rename it and save it in the QB folder.
3.) Then - whatever name I give it - it says it could not create the upgraded file.
4.) It also says that it could not open the existing file.
I'm not sure what to do - the file is only 4.7MB and I've tried every combination to get it to open.
Is there some trick? Nothing about this on the Intuit Forum. Nothing on Google either.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot open my business file!

I guess what is happening is that I originally installed quickbooks and the company file on my macMini and I suspect that it is not opening it on my iMac because of a sharing violation.
I did unlock both the application and the files but they still won't open.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Error opening Project 2007 file after using project 2010

This is the second time I'm experiencing this problem.
Created a file (say Rev 1) in Project 2007 at work and took it home and updated it using Project 2010. When I finished updating using Project 2010, I saved the file in Project 2007 format. Came to work the next day, opened the file using
Project 2007 and did a "Save As" so that I have another revision of the file (Rev 2).
After updating Rev 2 in Project 2007 I closed it but when I came to work the next day I couldn't open Rev 2 file again either in Project 2007 or 2010. This has happened to me with 2 different files.
The error message I get is
An unexpected error occured during command execution.
    Try the following:
Verify that all argumen names and values are correct and are of the correct type.
You may have run out of memory. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows that you aren't using.

It seems to me that it has to do something with invalid characters in the file name of the timeline. Or it could be anything from an '&' to two concurrent spaces, mulitple '.' or even a dash (-). Stick with single spaces, letter and
number combinations and you should be fine. The problems arise based on how the file has been opened. Here’s one thread like yours. It could be useful for your, read http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/microsoft/microsoft-aa/project/625-project-error-“an-import-error-occurred”

  • Open powerpoint encrypted files that are read only

I'm trying to open a powerpoint encrypted file that is read only with keynote version 5.1.1.
however keep getting the error message it must first be saved un encrypted.
is there a way to mark the file read only so keynote will open it like powerpoint does

thanks for the info, but not possible to get the file with the passowrd removed.
I was hoping keynote would be able to still read it like powerpoint is able to but I guess that feature doesn't exist in keynote.
Gues will just have to find a pc with powerpoint then.

  • Cannot open PowerPoint, Word files

    Hello,
When I try to open PowerPoint or Word files, I get a message:
    Import Error
The resource "ADWPDefaultLayoutStyleDictionary.xml" couldn't be loaded.
I reinstalled iWork, but it didn't help. Just in case I used the Disk Tool (or however it's called in English) and repaired permissions/authorizations. Still no result.
I know this question has been asked and answered before: (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15064918, https://discussions.apple.com/message/12424085?messageID=12424085), but as I mentioned in my case reinstallation didn't work.
    Please help.

    Did you try this?:
"Open a file the way you just described, in the upper left corner does appear "Excel" near the black apple? If yes, go to the menu Window  -->  Zoom Windows (twice if necessary)
Did the window of the file appeared?"

  • Opening PowerPoint & Excel Files

I have recently purchased the a Toshiba Satellite with Window 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Mircosoft Office 2010.
When I try and open a power point or excel file the system does not recongise the files and asks for a file to be selected. Unfortunately the systems seems to stuck when i select powerpoint/excel and the file does not open. Word operates without an issue.
I can open excel/powerpoint files if I open the programme first and then selct the file.
    Is this normal?

This may be your easiest solution but is not guaranteed.
From the start menu type in the search box "winword.exe /r" and press enter. Don't type the quotes and there is a space between exe and /r.
If that doesn't work then you can associate "xls" with excel etc. in default programs in control panel.
You can repair office through programs and features in control panel or from the same location uninstall office and reinstall.
Please report back if the winword solution works

  • Powerpoint 2007 compatability

I am working on a project for class that is being created in Powerpoint 2007, file extension .ppsx, that cannot be opened with Microsoft Office 2004 on the Mac. Is there a converter or application that allows people to view a presentation on a Mac created in Powerpoint 2007?
There will be people with various versions of OS and Microsoft Office having access to this presentation.
    Thank you.

No it cannot be opened by PP for the Mac. MS is working on it but for now save it as a PP for 2003 which is an option in the save as tab

  • Can we open Solidworks 2009 files with Acrobat 9 pro extended

    Hello,
I'm testing Acrobat 9.0.0 Pro extended and I can not open Solidworks 2009 files. But I can open Solidworks 2007 files. I'm on Windows XP 64 bits.
Can you tell me if this feature is corrected in newer version as 9.1 and later?
Or any other solution to be able to open the Solidworks 2009 files directly in Acrobat (without the need to open solidworks to convert the files into pdf 3D)?
    Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can convert 2010 SolidWorks file to STEP or PARASOLID files sometimes
you loose some informations during those conversions then you can read those files into Acrobat then sometimes you
can loose more informations... Why Adobe doesn't update some CAD formats what's append ???

  • Import powerpoint 2007 animation to Captivate 3

    I've created a single-slide presentation in powerpoint 2007
that has an animated smart art that flys on to the screen. I saved
my powerpoint 2007 file as a ppt not pptx. I imported the file to
Captivate 3 as animation. but when I preview the project, the
animation just shows up as a non-animated object. It doesn't have
any of the animated qualities of the original powerpoint.
See this link to see what I'm talking about:
    http://screencast.com/t/zgTOYx35Bd

I would agree that recording the animation as it plays in PPT
could help. That is how I have done several of my animations rather
    than import them.
What I have found in the process is make sure you set the
Captivate screen to only cover the area of powerpoint where the
animation takes place. That is, you can have powerpoint in a slide
view and click the play test button to record but only record the
    slide area.
Another thing you may want to do is be sure the animation in
powerpoint has a delay to begin with. This gives you time to first
click record (I am using full motion recording here) and let the
captivate red box go a way and then click the Play button in
    powerpoint.
This sounds kind of crazy as I type it here but it works.
Trying to record a complete powerpoint slide show was more
problimatic to me than doing it the way I describe. For one thing,
the resulting animation is very large. I prefer the smaller slide
    size animation/recording.
I hope this help. Still not sure what else to to tell

  • Can't open powerpoint files in keynote since Mountain Lion upgrade

Not having much luck and not sure which forum to post in as this could be a Mountain Lion issue, an iWork issue, but is also an iWork and/or IOS6 issue!
Until last week I had Lion on iMac and IOS5 on iPad. I was able to log on to my work network server (school network, I am a teacher) and open powerpoint, word or excel files in keynote, pages or numbers on my iPad. I then upgraded to IOS6 and now none of the files will open up on my iPad. I get the open in screen when I choose a file to open, then nothing happens.
In the meantime, I upgraded my iMac from Lion to Mountain Lion. Since I was having problems accessing my work files and viewing them on my iPad, I decided to buy Keynote on my iMac in the hope that I could get on with some work on iMac rather than iPad. I logged on to my school server and tried to open a powerpoint file and for some reason it downloads it as a pptx.exe and if I try to open it I get an error message saying "You can't open the application xxx.pptx.exe because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OSX". It shouldn't be a .exe file it should just be a powerpoint file! When I open Keynote and look for available files on my iMac, the file I just downloaded is greyed out.
Hmmmmm so I have an iMac, an iPad, two versions of the Keynote app (plus numbers and pages on the ipad) and can't open any of my files from my school network. That seems a lot of money in one pot Apple and something has changed from Lion to Mountain Lion, and from IOS5 to IOS6 which is preventing me from doing my work. IOS5 allowed me to open any ppt, xls, doc, pptx, xlsx, docx file from my school network so why since upgrading to IOS6 can I suddenly not open them??
Now having forked out for Keynote on my iMac, I have the same problem.
I am able to open attachments in emails and I am able to log on to the school VLE and access and open files. So it is just something to do with opening from the normal file system that I can't do.
I posted in the iPad and iWork forum and had no replies. However, Apple iWork team have contacted me after reading my post re the iPad issue of opening files from my network. I've provided info to them and am waiting for a response, but in the meantime I have now discovered there is also an issue on my iMac. Hopefully they will read this too or someone else will perhaps know what is going on.
It is a worry that I can't do any work using my Apple products seeing as I have bought them! I have had to go back to bringing my windows laptop home everyday which I hope is a short term solution. I have loved the fact that I could access everything on my school network from my iPad in the past and not have to drag a laptop around. I am also worried that this means pupils can't access the files too if they are using Macs, iphones, ipads etc and have upgraded to Mountain Lion or IOS6.
    Hoping someone can help
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response but I think you've misunderstood the problem. I can not open any type of PowerPoint file off my server in keynote. This includes .ppt and .pptx files. (Also includes .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx in pages and numbers).
Even if what you said worked it would take forever to go through every file and save them all as ppt 2007. Plus of course, I don't know what files I will need when. There are hundreds of resources I need to access when I'm at home. I need the flexibility to view the files when i need to and on the go. Normally I can download them off my school network on to my iPad in keynote and edit them then I email them back to myself ready to use the next day or to save back to my network. Currently I can not download any Microsoft office file. So I am now forced to have to lug my laptop home everyday, rendering my iPad and iMac useless. I can't pre-empt what I'll need and save it as .ppt as that is completely inflexible and that won't open anyways as this is not an issue with the version of PowerPoint file. This is an issue with how all Microsoft files are downloading from my school network to my iPad and iMac. I want Apple to allow this to work like it used to before the upgrades in operating systems. I wish I hadn't upgraded as it worked perfectly. :(

  • Can't open Project 2010 file in Project 2007

I am trying to open a Project 2010 file in Project 2007, I get an error that asks if I would like to download the converter and I say yes and get a generic product page for Project 2010. I can't locate the file that I need, how do I find it?

    Addressed here:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/opening-project-mpp-files-from-different-versions-HA001045020.aspx
You have reached this page because the Project MPP file that you are trying to open was created in a later version of Microsoft Project. Check below to determine if a converter for opening later files is available to you.
Which Project version are you using?
Which file version are you trying to open?
    Notes
    Project 2007
    Project 2010
No converter is available. If you received a Project 2010 file that you want to open using Project 2007, ask the person who sent the file to first save it to the Project 2007 file format.
Alternately, you can install the free
trial version of Project 2010, and then view the file, or save it to the Project 2007 file.
Note Once the trial version of Project 2010 has expired, it can continue to open and view project files, but it won’t be able to save them.
    Project 2003
    Project 2007
    There are two possibilities here.
If you are using Project 2003 with SP3, project files from Project 2007 can be opened read-only.
Download Microsoft Office Project 2003 Service Pack 3.
If you are using Project 2003 without SP3, there is no converter available. Upgrade to Project 2003 with SP3, or ask the person who sent the Project 2007 or later file to save the file first in the Project 2000-2003 file format.
    Project 2003
    Project 2010
No converter is available. Ask the person who sent the Project 2010 file to save the file first in the Project 2000-2003 file format.
    Project 2000 or Project 2002
    Project 2007 or Project 2010
No converter is available. Ask the person who sent the Project 2007 or later file to save the file first in the Project 2000-2003 file format.
    Project 98
    Project 2000 and later versions
No converter is available. Consider upgrading to the latest version of Project, or install the free
trial version of Project 2010 to try out Project’s enhanced functionality.
Alternately, ask the person who sent the Project 2000-2003 file to save the file first in the Project 98 file format.
Note Project 2007 and later versions of Project do not have the ability to save to the Project 98 file format.”
