  • Captivate 8 - Issue opening PowerPoint files

I am having an issue opening PowerPoint files with Captivate 8. I am running Captivate on the latest version of OSX on a Mac. And I keep getting a very specific message that states the PPT file is corrupted or outdated. Here is an image with the exact wording:
The problem is all my PowerPoint files receive this message when attempting to upload them into Captivate 8, and some of PPT files were saved using PowerPoint 2013. Both of which, lead me to believe that this is not a damaged PPT or an outdated PPT issue. Can anyone help with this one?

    Hi Austin,
Is the issue specific to a particular powerpoint file and other powerpoint files are getting imported properly ?
If yes, can you please email the problematic powerpoint file to me at [email protected]
If the powerpoint file size is huge, please upload it to dropbox.com and email me the download link at the above mail id.

  • Annoying extraneous files when opening Powerpoint file

Hi, This must be simple but I can't find it anywhere in the forum. As long as I've used Keynote, whenever I open Powerpoint files within Keynote, I generate a bunch of files on the main hard drive folder with names such as "~AUT00060". These appear to be non-essential files involved in converting Powerpoint, but is it safe to delete them? Each is only about 120 kb...
    Thanks...
    Dual G5 2.0 GHZ 2 GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I've never seen that on any of my systems with any version of Keynote. Weird.

  • Cannot open powerpoint file after renaming it.

Cannot open powerpoint file after I renamed it. I keep getting error messages -35 and -108. It says I have unknown access to the file now. What can I do?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by logging out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer ones.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.
Resolved the Problem! Thanks to Eric and Leonie

  • Can't open powerpoint files in keynote since Mountain Lion upgrade

Not having much luck and not sure which forum to post in as this could be a Mountain Lion issue, an iWork issue, but is also an iWork and/or IOS6 issue!
Until last week I had Lion on iMac and IOS5 on iPad. I was able to log on to my work network server (school network, I am a teacher) and open powerpoint, word or excel files in keynote, pages or numbers on my iPad. I then upgraded to IOS6 and now none of the files will open up on my iPad. I get the open in screen when I choose a file to open, then nothing happens.
In the meantime, I upgraded my iMac from Lion to Mountain Lion. Since I was having problems accessing my work files and viewing them on my iPad, I decided to buy Keynote on my iMac in the hope that I could get on with some work on iMac rather than iPad. I logged on to my school server and tried to open a powerpoint file and for some reason it downloads it as a pptx.exe and if I try to open it I get an error message saying "You can't open the application xxx.pptx.exe because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OSX". It shouldn't be a .exe file it should just be a powerpoint file! When I open Keynote and look for available files on my iMac, the file I just downloaded is greyed out.
Hmmmmm so I have an iMac, an iPad, two versions of the Keynote app (plus numbers and pages on the ipad) and can't open any of my files from my school network. That seems a lot of money in one pot Apple and something has changed from Lion to Mountain Lion, and from IOS5 to IOS6 which is preventing me from doing my work. IOS5 allowed me to open any ppt, xls, doc, pptx, xlsx, docx file from my school network so why since upgrading to IOS6 can I suddenly not open them??
Now having forked out for Keynote on my iMac, I have the same problem.
I am able to open attachments in emails and I am able to log on to the school VLE and access and open files. So it is just something to do with opening from the normal file system that I can't do.
I posted in the iPad and iWork forum and had no replies. However, Apple iWork team have contacted me after reading my post re the iPad issue of opening files from my network. I've provided info to them and am waiting for a response, but in the meantime I have now discovered there is also an issue on my iMac. Hopefully they will read this too or someone else will perhaps know what is going on.
It is a worry that I can't do any work using my Apple products seeing as I have bought them! I have had to go back to bringing my windows laptop home everyday which I hope is a short term solution. I have loved the fact that I could access everything on my school network from my iPad in the past and not have to drag a laptop around. I am also worried that this means pupils can't access the files too if they are using Macs, iphones, ipads etc and have upgraded to Mountain Lion or IOS6.
    Hoping someone can help
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response but I think you've misunderstood the problem. I can not open any type of PowerPoint file off my server in keynote. This includes .ppt and .pptx files. (Also includes .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx in pages and numbers).
Even if what you said worked it would take forever to go through every file and save them all as ppt 2007. Plus of course, I don't know what files I will need when. There are hundreds of resources I need to access when I'm at home. I need the flexibility to view the files when i need to and on the go. Normally I can download them off my school network on to my iPad in keynote and edit them then I email them back to myself ready to use the next day or to save back to my network. Currently I can not download any Microsoft office file. So I am now forced to have to lug my laptop home everyday, rendering my iPad and iMac useless. I can't pre-empt what I'll need and save it as .ppt as that is completely inflexible and that won't open anyways as this is not an issue with the version of PowerPoint file. This is an issue with how all Microsoft files are downloading from my school network to my iPad and iMac. I want Apple to allow this to work like it used to before the upgrades in operating systems. I wish I hadn't upgraded as it worked perfectly. :(

  • Keynote will not open powerpoint file

    Hello,
My professor has posted a powerpoint file online and when i try to open it with keynote i get 'Import Error - An Unknown Error has occured'. Is this file simply not compatible or is there a trick to getting pptx files to open on keynote? I'm running a macbook pro 2012 with 10.7.4.
    Thank You

Try this repair for Keynote,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its           a freeware application
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > Restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive
then First Aid tab and click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store

  • Opening Powerpoint files in Mac and PC

Hi. I sometimes have to create presentations on my MacBook using Powerpoint (I know! Keynote is better and I love it.). I am using Powerpoint 2004 for Mac version 11. I recently discovered that I can't open some powerpoint files on Windows-based computers with Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 Professional Edition, but could open them with a 2002 version. Does this have something to do with the windows version or my Mac? Since I have to share the files with my colleagues, I often have to open the files from someone else's computer (which has a 2002 PPT version) then save the file to a PPT 97-2003 & 95 version just so my colleagues with a 2003 version can open the files. Is there a simpler way to solve this compatibility problem? Hope someone can help me. Thanks!

    Hi Orange Girl
I have tried to replicate your problem using two different versions of PowerPoint 2003 on two different computers and have managed to open the files without any problems.
Which specific versions of PowerPoint do you have on the Mac and the PC.
    On the Mac
    From the menu
    PowerPoint > About PowerPoint
    Example
    Version 11.0 (104441)
    On the PC
    From the menu
Help > About Microsoft Office PowerPoint
    Example
    11.5529.5606

  • After 7.01 upgrade, can't open PowerPoint files from Mail

After updating 4th gen iPad to iOS 7.01, PowerPoint slides attached to emails won't open.  Prior to the upgrade, I could double click on a PowerPoint attachment, which would proceed to download and then open it.  It also will not open in Quickoffice either.

  • Can you open powerpoint files using Gmail?

I read that even if you don't have any application to open a power point file that if you use Gmail that you can open a pp file-?
This seems to good to be true -

    You're Welcome susiecat.pat!
As Google's help center did not specify, that the feature was not available for OS X, I was hoping that it would work for you.
But as neoroanatomist has verified, unfortunately that is not the case.
    Sorry.
I use NeoOffice, but I must admit, the only feature I use it for is to view PowerPoint slideshows.
I haven't taken the time to learn all of it's other functions, as the application appears quite complicated!
    And thanks for the !

  • Open powerpoint files with Devanagari script on Ipad 3

    Hello,
I am a teacher and I teach Hindi in a public school.
My students are assigned to create presentations on the interpretation of the essays, poetry, literature, and biographies that are part of their curriculum.
Without exception, all of them create their presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint. Since Hindi uses the Devanagari script, they use a special font, which is usually a variant of the "Susha" font. Susha and related fonts which my students use are all true type fonts. None of my students embed their fonts.
Since I'm their teacher, I review their presentations and help them develop their interpretations and understanding of the subject matter. I need only to view their work, and not to edit it.They bring their presentations to me on CD-ROM discs, and USB Flash drives, which use the FAT32 filesystem.
I have been using my old Windows laptop with Powerpoint and all the fonts installed so far. Also, since I need to create teaching plans online, I have also been using the Firefox internet browser to log in to the school website.
I am 56 years old, and my eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be. So I have been finding the screen of my old laptop to be stressful, being dull and not very sharp. My laptop is also heavy and becomes uncomfortably hot after use. Also, I am not very good at using a mouse or a track pad.
I recently discovered the new Apple Ipad, and really liked the screen clarity, size, and the touchscreen is also simpler to use. So I bought the 16 GB WiFi model  for my internet work.
Now, If I am able to find a way to view my students' presentations on my Ipad with the proper fonts, I will finally be able to stop using the old laptop.
Can any of you kind folks help me acheive this goal?
    With Regards,
    Manju

I will see if using Mangal is an option for my students.
How will I be able to read their USB Flash drives and CD-ROM discs on my Ipad?
Here is a page on activating standard hindi in windows:
    http://frontype.com/how-to-add-language/Hindi.html
The ipad can't deal with flash drives or cd's.  You would have to transfer files via email or a service like dropbox or via iTunes from a full computer.

    Keynote will open PowerPoint files.
And in my opinion does a better job of it then PowerPoint for the Mac.
It will also export its presentations as PowerPoint files.
