Opening projects on different computer

I made a project in Premiere elements 12 trial, which has now expired. I could not export the project b/c it was a trial. I tried to open the project on a different computer in premiere elements 12 (not trial), but it said the media was offline (it opened, but none of the content was there). What do I do?

The first thing that I would check would be the Export settings on that offending group of computers. This ARTICLE goes into more detail, on what to look for. My first guess would be that the users on those computers made changes to the Export Settings in the Auido area. If everything IS set correctly, then we can head in another direction with troubleshooting.
Good luck,

  • Unable to open project on different computer

    Hi all,
I've got an interesting situation.  I created a project on a Mac Pro, then used FCPX to consolidate media onto an external drive.  Then, I realized that the "Organize Media" was needed to get all original files correctly located in the FCPX media folder, so I did that and the project would then open with my laptop (which I used as the test computer).  Now, I handed the project over to another using a newer MBP than mine, and for some reason, he has been unable to open the project or even view the event media.
He's updated FCPX to 10.0.1, rebooted the computer, trashed FCP prefs, copied the Motion Templates to his Movies folder (I made a copy on the external drive as I have several templates for the project), and has done a permissions repair.  All without change.  The Mac Pro is a 2010 12-core running the latest version of Lion and my MBP test computer is running the latest version of Snow Leopard.  His computer is running Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

Tom was certainly right about the duplicate function being the best way to copy a project.  However, the problem here was actually two-part.  First, the editor did not tell me that he was able to see the project after updating to 10.0.1, but the project had missing media.  He just said it still wasn't working.
Second, the missing media was only a result of him not properly copying the Motion Templates folder from the hard drive to his Movies folder.
Thanks to Tom for suggesting a better way to copy these projects, though!  I think I'm going to use that, and Singlemizer to remove the duplicated files outside the "Original Media" folder to keep from building up duplicated media.

  • How to save Final Cut Pro project to an ftp server to then open on a different computer

Hello, I work for a graphic design firm that also does video production for businesses. We are using Final Cut Pro X in our office which has an FTP server connected to all office computers.
What we want is to be able to have on employee start a project in Final Cut Pro X, save it to the server; then have another employee open up the same project and continue working from a different computer.
Right now, we have a lot of our Final Cut files saved to the server, and the files will show up in the server on the other employee's machine. BUT, we scroll in the server to the file for the Final Cut Pro project on the other computer, and the file is grayed out, unable to be opened on the new computer.
I've tried right clicking and choosing "open with Final Cut" and Final Cut does then open, but right before it opens the project within Final Cut, a message comes up saying "The document could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro," which of course, I see no way to do that from within Final Cut Pro.
I've also called Apple Care, they reminded me that we can't have one project open on two computers at the same time, and that's fine. We are willing to close the project on computer one to then open on computer two.
If you have an answer let me know. We don't want to have to load onto an external hard drive to then load onto the other machine, especially since we have a server ready to go.
    Thanks for your help.

You can share projects via the ftp server, but you need to:
    1) Have all the media in identical events on each editor's machine;
    2) Set up the project  and share the entire folder for that project first;
    3) Afterwards, you can share just the project file itself
You CANNOT work directly on projects and events stored in the ftp server.

  • Dynamic Link does not open Project on 2nd computer

Has anyone run into this situation?
Creating a  Premiere ver CS6 project on the mac and creating a dynamic linked comp in Premiere to a After Effects comp works well until the project file is shared with another computer that did not create the project.
When the files are opened on another MAC, same CS6 version the Premiere project will not open. It cannot find the linked comp. It will NOT open the project file what so ever!   I go back to the original computer that created the project and render out the AE linked comp files and import them as movies by replacing the dynamic linked comp files then resave the project. (Note: I have not deleted the comp files in the project, only on the timeline). I then try to open the files from the other computer the Premiere project will still NOT open.  Again, back to the original computer that created the file, open the project and DELETE in the project pane any files that are AE linked comp files, even though they are NOT being used now in the timeline, resave the project, now the project will OPEN on the other computer.
All these files are on a standalone portable drive, the Premiere project scratch files are all specified to be on this standalone drive as well when the project is opening. It seems if any file is a "Linked comp file" and is not opened on the computer that created it, it will not open the project file. It does not act like a misplaced, missing file that it will ask you to located the file, or will still open the project regardless if it cannot find the file(s).
if your sharing project files or getting a new computer and try to open up a project file from the previous computer with linked comps you will NOT be able to do so.  This has been my experience so far with CS6 on the Mac.

    Steve

  • Audio problems and can't open project to another computer.

I'd like some help with moving a project from my G4 powerbook (10.4.3 1Gb RAM) to my G5 iMac (10.4.4 1.5Gb RAM) both with ilfe 06 installed. I copied the project file across and it won't start up on my iMac. The reason I'm trying to move the project over is that the audio quality on the entire (powerbook) project is absolutely u.s. (created on my brand new powerbook with factory settings intact). I have already used iMovie on my iMac with the same camera and it worked just fine and was kinda hoping that 'porting it over might cure the problem, although I'm not at all sure it will. I think the fault is probably embedded in the original. (incidentally, I CAN open the moved project when I connect my powerbook to my iMac)
    Audio problem:
I noticed, while importing the clips, that my powerbook started sporadically cutting out the audio (unusual I thought!) but I was under a bit of pressure to complete and thought it was just a temporary glitch.
I'd appreciate some help with that also, if anyone has a suggestion.
Anyway, as I said, the project simply won't open on my iMac (I've checked permissions they seem OK) iMovie starts up when I click the project, but stalls until I click iMovie's icon in the dock, where upon the previous project I worked on loads up fine.
Most frustration overall, I thought if I had 2 machines I would have ultimate flexibility - It's not woking out like that at all.
I'm apprehensive about upgrading my powerbook to 10.4.4 at the moment - frightened I'll loose the whole thing!!
I've used iMovie 2, 3 and 5, never had any issues like this before.
    iMac G5 + Powerbook G4 (10.4.3)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Same here. I don't have a solution, but I understand exactly your problem. This is what I did.
Imported movies into iPhoto from stills camera.
Opened iMovie, new project bla bla, dragged from event library (iphoto videos).
    Made/edited movie etc.
All gone well. Exported to iTunes/iDVD etc no problem.
Now, I don't need to keep all the original video clips in iPhoto so can I delete them?
Yeah sure, I'll just drag the iMovie project to my ext HD as per the iMovie help files.(in iMovie)
Opened project that is now on ext HD.
    File/Consolidate/Copy clips & Move events.
But.... it doesn't. The 'Copy clips' box even says '2.2gb' which is the right amount for the movie clips. But they never go to the iMovie project file on my ext HD.???

  • Premiere timeline won't redraw properly after opening project on different system

I've been seeing an issue (for quite some time now) where if I'm working a job on two different edit systems (usually with duplicate media or using a shuttle drive for mobile editing) that when I open the project on the "other" system the timeline won't redraw properly and looks like the attached image. The edit is there and the system will play the timeline but it's unusable as you can't work.
I've found that some combination of duplicating the sequence and/or quit and restart might fix it. Importing the sequence to another project will too. A talk about this on twitter with other editors who have seen this says a relink to the media will fix it. I used to think that was a problem of using Dropbox to store a PPro project files was the culprit but it happens when I use a shuttle drive to keep the same project on two computers in sync for editing on one or the other.
    Anyone else? Any solutions?

    Hi Scott,

Yes, I have seen issues here in support when users transport their projects from one system to another via a portable hard drive. It's very weird behavior and I'm investigating the issue. What you might try is a different method of transporting those projects, like a different drive, etc.
I will add this issue to my report. Feel free to file a bug report here.

  • Opening project on different mac

if you have no file to save how can you open a project on another mac. I have a project where all the sound files are getting mixed up. i've tried everything but it always exports with the sound messed up. the only thing i can think to try is opening it up on a different mac and trying it. How do i do that?

You need an external hard drive, formatted Mac OSX Journaled - use Disk Utility t format if need be.
Connect the drive, open iMovie and within iMovie move the project *and all the Events* to the external drive.
Connect the drive to the other Mac, open iMovie, and edit (or copy across to that Mac's hard disk, but you can edit from the hard drive. If you want to edit on the portable, it is smoother if it's a Firewire drive

  • CP4: Issue Opening Project on Different PC

I created a project on CP4 on my home PC. However, when I tried to open this on my work PC I have run into problems.
To all intents, the .cp file looks like it is opening up but then does not progress beyond the Start-Up screen. When I opened up another instance of CP4 and tried to open up the same file again, it told me that another version of Captivate was already using the file, so clearly it thinks it is open.
Both versions of CP4 were installed from the same Adobe E-Learning Suite package, so I am at a bit of a loss to understand the issue.
Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

    Hello,
Will have to check, for the moment I'm in college and have only my laptop. But as far as I'm understanding the idea of 'OLE' an embedded file is really into the host file, whereas a linked file is outside. Because it is easy to update imported PPT-slides when they are changed in the original PPT-file, the default setting in Captivate is 'Linked', which I think is very correct. If you look at the Presentation in the Library, you'll see that for linked presentation the size is 0Kb. If you embed the presentation, you will see the real size of the presentation.
Your second, interesting question learnt me something too, thanks! Find the Presentation in the LIbrary (you can open the library by the Window menu or CTRL-ALT-L), use the right-click menu and you'll be able to change from linked to embedded and vice versa. So as long as you stay on the same PC you keep it linked, and if you have to transfer the file, change to embedded.
Hope you'll enjoy Captivate as much as I do
    Lilybiri
PS: sorry, had been looking in CP5 for the size of the linked presentation, just see that in CP4 the linked file has a size of 1Kb

  • ----- GENERAL ERROR when opening PROJECT on different FCP ?? -----

Any reason why I'm getting 'general error (41)' when trying to open a client's rough cut of a project?
    I'm running fcp 5.0 on a dual G5....
Had no trouble importing digitized source material and animations from their G-RAID drive, but when I tried to open their project and review a rough cut, I get the error message.
Is it that they have a more current version of fcp?
    Anyone?
    Thanks,
    Mark

You need to be running the same or later version of FCP that your client's are running... that is the problem. You can get to 5.0.4 for free simply by running software update and downloading it. It's better software than what you're running now in any event.
If they are running FCP 5.1 or later you need to "crossgrade" to the current version of FCP. It's a bargain actually....
    http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/
It's 2 years ahead of what you're running now... new features, and bug fixes all over the place.

  • Encode iMovie project on different computer?

I am going to be working on a project and this is what I'd like to do: I'd like to be able to edit the video on my MBP as I will be doing much of the editing on the road. When the project is complete, I want to be able to encode/complete the project on my Mac Pro because it has more horsepower and will speed up the encoding time. I plan to store the video files on a USB HD so that I can swap the drive to either computer. The video totals about 60GB. I've read somewhere that you can just transfer the iMovie Events/Projects folders. Is that all it takes?

Thanks for the fast reply. Let me explain the situation a little more in-depth...
I am starting with my movies in MOV format (I used MPEG Streamclip to convert VOB files). I used my Mac Pro to convert these since it is much faster.
I have the MOVs on an external drive, in separate folders, i.e. DVD1, DVD2, DVD3.
My goal is to connect the drive to my Macbook Pro and do some editing with that. I've searched and read up and it seems that importing into iMovie requires that the video files are copied to the local disk, which is not what I'd want.
Eventually, once my project is complete, I'd like to plug my external drive back into the Mac Pro for final encoding with iDVD.
The way I understand it, the video files are encoded when I chose to share my project with iDVD. So I will do that portion on the Mac Pro. Unless you think encoding 4.5hrs of video isn't going to take much time on my 13" MBP? I have a feeling it will, and either way, it's going to encode much faster on my quad core Mac Pro.
    Thanks

  • Can I open an imovie project from an external hard drive on a different computer than my own? If so how?

Can I open an imovie project from an external hard drive on a different computer other than my own? If so how?

If you used the Finder to move the files, iMovie will have lost track of them. iMovie holds the locations of the Event files, and Project files contain references to those locations. If you move the files, iMovie has no way of knowing where they are.
If you can, first move all the files back to their original locations. Plug in the external drive. Open iMovie and move the files in iMovie's interface (help explains how, but basically, just drag and drop in the event pane).
Then you can connect the drive to the new computer, and iMovie will see them.

  • HELP! [project won't open on different computer]

I finish a project and saved it in my hard disk. And now, I am trying to open it on another computer but it can't be opened and it state that it's damaged or something. What should I do?

You may be trying to open the Premiere Project file in an older version of Premiere than what it was created/saved with, that does not work. For instance, you made the file in CC and are trying to open with CS6.

  • How can I edit an iMovie 10.0.3 project on a different computer with an older version?

I am trying to caption a video using the Titles feature. However, 10.0.3 has a bug that won't allow font changes in titles, which is making the captions inconsistent in terms of size and font, which looks terrible. How can I fix this? Is there any way to share the project with a different computer with an older version of iMovie, to make the edits there? So far, the video will transfer but the other project files (including the captions) won't open in the new version.

You can't use a project created in iMovie 10 with earlier iMovie versions.  If you are only adding titles you could always re-import the video into a Mac running an earlier version of iMovie or share the iMovie 10 video to file and import into the earlier version.
Some titles in iMovie 10 do allow changing font and size though.  Its a matter of trying out the various options.  If you are running Yosemite its worth upgrading to version 10.0.6 which I think improved title adjustment options as well as a number of other things.
    Geoff.

  • Unable to Open Project from a Networked computer

    Hi All
We have just recently installed Robohelp V6 on a computer in
the office and after making sure that RoboSource is connected and
visible, I have come to my desktop machine and made sure that
    1. I could connect to the Robohelp "Server"
    2. that I could map to the drive that the project file
    resided
    3. that I could ping the "server" computer
All appears to be fine, except that when I try to open the
Project file from the "MAPPED" drive, I get the following error
    msg:
"OPEN PROJECT WAS CANCELLED OR THE APPLICATION WAS UNABLE TO
    LOAD THE DATABASE FOR: T:\Content\Grail2Aug07Help.cpd"
    It is the Project file
grail2aug07help.xpj that I am trying to open.
The project WAS currently opened and in use my another person
on the "server" computer, so I wonder if this is the reason for the
message.??? If I cannot get the project opened. how do I then make
sure that files that I want to alter are "Checked In/Out" by me and
are also seen, by other users as being CHECKED OUT...??
    PLEASE HELP..!!
    Regards

Your project should live on a local drive (e.g., the My
Documents folder on your PC). Version control can live on a mapped
    (i.e., network) drive.
