Opening prproj files in PP 6.0

I just started using the Creative Cloud Premier Pro 6.0 software.  I cannot open movie files (prproj) that were made in Premier Pro 5.5 into
PP 6.0.  I get the following error message-  "File format not supported."  Why does this happen?   Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Try this.

  • Speedgrade cc don't open *.prproj files

When I send project to speedgrade through "Direct link to Adobe Speedgrade, appears that error. The application don't open Premiere projects too.
What is the problem? Do I have to reinstall Speedgrade?

You haven't provided much info (see the FAQ on the Overview page for info accompanying help requests ... ) but I'll give you a couple WAG's (Wild Uhum Guesses) to check ... first, is the project & footage on an internal disc or external via eSATA or Thunderbolt ... or on a USB3 or "lower" external drive? Second, do your two program versions "match" totally ... unfortunately Adobe isn't giving equal numerical designations to equivalent generations of programs, but ... check to see if they are the "compatible" versions.

  • Windows 7 PrProj Files Associated with CS6 and not CC

I have the CC installed on my workstation.  Since, for some reason, CC doesn't include Encore, I was advised to install Premiere Pro CS6 to get Encore installed.  So I did.
All is well, except now when I double-click on a *.prproj file, Windows wants to open CS6 and NOT Premiere Pro CC.  Since my *.prproj files are created with CC, CS6, of course, won't open them.
I tried to change the file association for the *.prproj file type, but for some reason, Premiere Pro CC isn't an option, and when I manually browse and choose CC, Windows still reverts back to CS6 to open *.prproj files.
What's up with this?  I can open my *.prproj files if I launch Premiere Pro CC and THEN open the file, but I think I should be able to just double-click on the file in Explorer.
Can I uninstall Premiere Pro CS6 and KEEP Encore?  Is there another way to change file assications in Windows?

I have found a solution. I had precisely the same problem. But I want to keep both CS6 and CC, since only CS6 has a direct link to Encore. The problem occurs whenever I install an update to CS6. Right now my Premiere file extensions open with CC. But if I install an update to CS6, the file extensions will go back to opening with CS6.
And I also tried changing the file extensions the way you did and had the same result.
But I found the way to change the setting in the Windows Registry. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project. Then go to shell/open/command and change the program from CS6 to CC.
Also, if you do a search in the section of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Adobe.Premiere.(with various endings following the word "Premiere") and change all instances of CS6 to CC, then you will find that if you go to the file association page, all the files that used to be associated with Premiere Pro CS6 will now be associated with Premiere Pro CC.

  • Please.. Help me. I can not open the file(untitled.prproj) which made at Premier Pro CC.

    Hi.
    I have a big problem.
The file which made at Premier Pro CC is never opened at Premier Pro CS6.
just the words ' The project appears to be damaged. it cannot reopen. ' appears on the screen. (WTF ...)
    What should I do...?
I've found the solution everywhere.. but it's hard to search it..
please.. tell me the solution right here. or [email protected]
    Thank you All.

    What should I do...?
Check this thread on how to convert CC .prproj into plain XML document and that one on how to open up unzipped CC .prproj file in CS6. If you need CS5 or CS5.5 to complete the job, you can download it here (scroll down the page).

  • Have AE7; Problem importing prproj file into pc; get placeholder instead. What do I need to do to open up the video files here. They are .mov in quicktime.

Have AE7; Problem importing prproj file into pc; get placeholder instead. What do I need to do to open up the video files here. They are .mov in quicktime.

Please be more specific. What Premiere project? What version of Premiere? Which operating system? What CoDecs do the QT fiels use? Are all the video files in the correct folders inside the Premiere project structure? Your description sounds like you are attempting to open a Mac based project on a PC and your video files are either in the wrong location or use a Mac-specific CoDec, hence they cannot be read on a PC.

  • Exporter plug-in doesn't run when open by clicking .prproj file

    Hi everyone!
I am creating an exporter plug-in. It works fine when I open Premiere, open a project and choose to export using my plug-in. But when i open a project directly by double clicking the project file (like untitled.prproj), my plug-in always show up a "Error compiling movie" message.
I use log4cxx to help track the plug-in, but no log was created, so my guess is that the plug-in has not even been loaded.
Could anyone tell be the differences between starting Premiere -> open a project and open a project directly by double clicking its .prproj file. In both case, which file is loaded and which file is not?
I'm very appreciated if anyone would have the same problem and tell me how to fix this. I'm really stuck here

    The version is CS5.5.
    And my steps are:
    1. open the project by double clicking the .prproj file
    2. select a file in the project
    3. Choose File -> Export -> Media
    4. Select my plug-in in the drop down list and choose Export
    => Error
    But if take these step:
    1. Open Premiere Pro
    2. select a project
    3. select a file in the project
    4. Choose File -> Export -> Media
    5. Select my plug-in in the drop down list and choose Export
    the plug-in run just fine.
So I think that there are something different between opening a project directly and open Premiere and choose a project. Could you verify this for me? Thanks.

Please help me. I have big project, 80 minutes video. I can get fired if i cannt finish this video
    thanks,
    Benny

    Opened fine for me here.
Try the following, one at a time:
    - Start Premier while holding down "shift" (resets plugin cache)
    - Create a new project and import the old project into it
    - Try opening the project with all the media offline (by shifting it/renaming the folder it's in) and bringing each piece back online one at a time
    - Move the three folders Premiere makes next to the project folder to somewhere different (so premiere can't "see" them)
Let us know if any of that worked.

  • Premiere Pro CC will not open any prproj files.

I'm working on a feature length.  We have a premiere in 2 weeks!  My PC computer shut down yesterday afternoon so I did not restart.  (It sometimes does this)  When I switched it on this morning, I tried to start Premiere Pro but it moved at a crawl and then went into a Not responding mode.  I tried several other times to no avail.  I did an update...no help.  I uninstalled Premiere Pro and reinstalled...still will not open a file.  I need to finish this edit!!!  Any help is appreciated.

I agree, Jim. Ronn, check out this blog post I wrote on the topic: http://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/01/13/computer-shuts-down-with-premiere-pro-or-af ter-effects/

  • .prproj file extension missing in file association preferences Bridge

I recently updated Bridge and lost my ability to open Premiere Pro projects from Bridge.  The prproj file would open in Media Encoder instead. I could however open the prproj file in Windows Explorer. The following is the fix to add prproj to file association option to Bridge.
    The Steps
    Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC (64 Bit)\Resources\Adobe Bridge Opener Preferences.xml
Right Click on the file named Adobe Bride Open Preferences.xml , select "edit" from the fly out menu. The file will open in "Notepad"
Expand the Notepad window, scroll to the bottom. Before the statement </openers> copy and paste the following statement.
    app_name="Premiere Pro">
        <item description="$$$/Bridge/OpenersXML/Description/PremiereProject=Premiere Pro" extensions="prproj" app_name="OS">
         4. Now save the file to the desktop as Adobe Bridge Opener Preferences.xml and close.
         5. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC (64 Bit)\Resources
         6. Drag the file you saved to the the Bridge Resources folder.
         7. When prompted click "Move and Replace"
         8. Open Bridge and go to Edit> Preferences> File Type Associations
         9. Scroll to the bottom and you will see Premiere ( if you do not you may need to restore to default)
         10. Now you can add the correct File Association to the .prproj file.
I am not sure if this is an isolated problem, but I thought that this information could help someone out there.

thanks again... when you look at the directory tree in bridge i see...
all of the folder and files where of jpeg and i could open and edit
here but they would not be edited in iphoto... once i updated to
    ilife09 they became this...
also if I go in thru the harddrive to get a picturefrom the pictures
folder that you see at the top it sends me here... i now have to
access the photo library by the way of the finder to the pictures
folder... any thoughts as to how to clean this up and would deleting
    bridge help remove?

I  have tried and tried to edit the  registry and Even tried to figure out  how to put Adobe Premiere Cs5 In  My OTHER PROGRAMS list on my open  with couldn't figure it out, I think  it has to do with my Adobe for  some reason being in my Programs Files  Folder rather than my Program  files (x86) Folder Maybe I installed it  wrong i don't know But After  weeks of searching I cound this little Program.

Scroll Down to my .prproj file
    Then Edit Selected File type
Under User Choice I Selected Application/adobepremierepro.exe

  • Premiere Pro Not Accepting .PRPROJ File Extension

    Hi,
Have just purchased the official Adobe tutorial book "Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Classroom in a Book" to learn the fundamentals of the programme and being a "newbie" have encountered numerous problems.
The most frustrating is when I go to open the lesson files with a .prproj file extension in PP it comes up error message "file format not supported"
This seems odd though as the the lesson file names appear in the project panel but are not openable files.
Given that this is an Adobe inhouse file extension being opened by Adobe software am really frustrated that it's this difficult.
Have aready defaulted the ,prproj file on my PC to open with PP Cs3 which I thought would cure it, but no go!! Any help would be most appreciated.

The message appears after I click on "open project" and then click on the file within the "select file dialogue box".
But something is amiss here, after ejecting the dvd, I opened premiere and then open project (from the "lessons" folders on my h/drive now) and the file I was having problems with is not showing.
All the "Lesson" folders are there but some of the files that were showing when the dvd was present are not there! The one in particular that I was trying to work on was 4-2 which was in the lesson 04 folder.
What I will try and do is open the "lesson" folders on the dvd and transfer the files within seperately as opposed to transferring the unopened folder as before.
Thanks for your time so far ,will come back tomorrow.

  • Prproj-file from PPro CC in Premiere CS6?

How can I import a file (prproj) from Premiere Pro CC into Premiere CS6?

You can't open a .prproj file created in CC7 in CS6.
The best you can do is export/import an .AAF or .XML.

  • How to work in Adobe Premiere with .prproj file from AAE?

*hi i have a problem - I created animation in After effects 7.0, exported it into .prproj file and now Im trying to add that animation to my movie, but my Adobe Premiere CS3 dosent seem to like it-I can import that file with no probs, but then, i cannot place it nowhere on timeline and just drag it anywhere.. (even tho its shown in folder in library as a file comp1... CAn anyone helop me? (can i actually work with those files like that or premiere CS3 and AAE 7.0 dont match??

thanx for help (i already solved it by exporting it into movie formats...

  • CS3 prproj files in CS5 ?

While extensively searching I see contrary information which puzzles me and makes me doubt if I could buy CS5.
    1.
    Could CS3 .prproj files ( ex XP 32 bit )  be opened in CS5, on a 64 bit i7 950 machine,  without problems after having installed a new fresh CS5 ( no upgrade from CS3 to CS5 ) ?
    Do I loose CS5 features while processing CS3 files in CS5 ?
And, most important, are the CS3 files ( opened in CS5 ) also prone to the Mercury video card acceleration while rendering into mpeg2 ( no avchd ) and playback those mpeg2 files =
Sorry if these are too basic questions, but I need help anyway which I was unable to trace anywhere else.
    Thanks for any help.

    Could CS3 .prproj files ( ex XP 32 bit )  be opened in CS5, on a 64 bit i7 950 machine
    Yes.
    without problems
Probably. Always backup your original project before proceeding.
    after having installed a new fresh CS5 ( no upgrade from CS3 to CS5 ) ?
There is no such things as an "upgrade," per se. Each version is a standalone installation.
    Do I loose CS5 features while processing CS3 files in CS5 ?
No. A CS3 project becomes a CS5 project on import/opening. You may lose some CS3 effects, but nothing in CS5 is unavailable.
And, most important, are the CS3 files ( opened in CS5 ) also prone to the Mercury video card acceleration while rendering into mpeg2 ( no avchd ) and playback those mpeg2 files =
Yes. Sort of. I think so. Mercury Playback Engine does not accelerate rendering, but instead accelerates certain effects. But I think the answer to your question (or the gist of it, anyway) is still "yes."

  • How to transforming prproj file into prv file

I  purchased Digital Classroom for Premiere Pro 5.5, for easy learning, but every time I want  to open a lesson in the premiere program I get the warning "No item mach your search". I press cancel and the program leason open but in Program Monitor panel is another warning  "Media offline". I right click on Project Panel after on Link Media and in the window which open I find "Adobe premiere Pro preview files" and when I open it, there  the "prproj" file was  changed in "prv"  file.
I close the premiere  program and I open the MY Document  the file is again "prproj". I get creazi..........
Please help  me to solve this problem because it stopped me to learn this program.
Thank you very much in advance.
    With regards
                           George

"prproj" file was  changed in "prv"  file.
Those are two different things.  The first is the Premiere Pro project file, the second is a Premiere Pro generated Preview file for use inside a given project.
