Opening raw from Olympus EM1 in Snow Leopard
Hy everybody, maybe it is not the right place...
I've got a problem with my Imac running 10.6.8, because Preview does not displays the orf of my new camera, Olympus OMD EM 1.
I have read that Preview share the same raw converter of Iphoto and Aperture, but the versions of there software (needed to open the orf of this new camera), are not supported by Snow Leopard.
I have sent by Mail, as an attachment, one of these orf and, surprisingly, through Mail, I have seen the orf correctly displayed!!
I can't understand how and why, because I am very naive in this field :(
Do you think that it could be possible to see these orf through Preview, as I can see them as an attachment through Mail?
Thank you for your attention :)
Ciao
Susanna
That camera requires Mavericks. 10.9 the latest OS from Apple.
How did you send the file with Mail? When (and on what system) were you able to see the image?
Inside of every raw file the camera puts a smaller JPG version of the image which can be used to see what the image looks like without decoding the raw file. This is most likely what you are seeing when you see the image in email.
To actually use the raw file information you would need to be running Mavericks.
IS there a reason you have not upgraded to Mavericks and have stayed with Snow Leopard? Your system, a 2010 iMac will be able to run Mavericks. The only problem is if you are running older PPC software that requires Rosetta, that will not work in Mavericks.

IPhoto 9.1.5 won't open, downgraded from Lion back to Snow Leopard
I have tried to open iPhoto and every time I get a similar error window like I have pasted below. I have reinstalled iPhoto from iLife '11 disc. I have updated until I get the message that everything is up to date. I can't help but think that priviously installing Lion and then going back to Snow Leopard has had something to do with this. I also go to "Finder>Pictures>iPhoto Library" and there is nothing there. No arrow saying there is something inside, no list of folders titled with what roll or event they belong to.. nothing.
here is a copy of the error message, it is long, and I don't know what it means

A reinstall may help:
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
However, if that doesn't help - and in the case of Core Media I wold have my doubts - you'll need to reinstall the OS.
I also go to "Finder>Pictures>iPhoto Library" and there is nothing there. No arrow saying there is something inside, no list of folders titled with what roll or event they belong to.. nothing.
This is normal. Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is a Package File. This is simply a folder that +looks+ like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. -
We upgraded or computer from os x to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 now our icons for safari and mail won't open
Drag the icons from the Dock, go to the Applications folder and drag Safari and Mail (one at a time) to the Dock. Don't release the mouse button until the adjaxent icons move out of the way for the one you're adding.
That should compensate for the updates to Mail and Safari introduced with SL. -

Can't play long voice memo after upgrading from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS
I have a voice memo that's 1.5 hrs long saved on my computer that I used to be able to play in iTunes & Quicktime, but ever since I upgraded from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS, the file will not play anymore. I tried installing quicktime 7 from the snow leopard optional installs but the file still didn't play. I also installed the VLC player which opened the file, but only played 7 minutes of it. When I try to open the file in quicktime it says that it can't play the file and that it is not a movie file, but my file is saved as a ".mov" file. Does anyone know how I can get the file to play again?

Exporting OS X Mail from Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I partitioned my iMac HD to have two partitions: Macintosh HD has Mountain Lion; I reinstalled Snow Leopard on Macintosh HD 2. Best part: you can access your user-created files from EITHER disk partition. But not so OS X Mail. I wanted to revert to Snow Leopard, since I don't like the iOS-like Mountain Lion (swipe THIS!), but Mail was a problem since all my Snow Leopard Mail was successfully migrated over to Mountain Lion during upgrade. But I think I found a way to Export Mail from ML to (a clean install of) SL.
Try this:
1. Open Mail in ML. For each folder you wish to have back in SL, Export it to your ML Desktop as an .mbox file. Depending on the folder size, this can take from a few seconds to several minutes. You'll see an .mbox icon for the particular folder on your Desktop. If the word "partial" appears between the folder name and the .mbox suffix, wait a few moments for the Export to complete, at which time the word "partial" will disappear. E.g., for a folder named "Mary", if it's a huge one, the icon will first appear as "Mary.partial.mbox"; when the Export is done, you'll see "Mary.mbox".
2. When you've Exported all your desired folders as above, you can exit ML and re-start your Mac in SL. Open Mail in Snow Leopard, and once again, for each file you just Exported in ML to the Desktop there, select "Import Data From Apple Mail" and choose the folder from the Desktop in ML to which your mboxes were Exported. When the Import starts, you can see via a progress bar how far along it is. When done, you'll see a new folder in your SL Mail called "Import"; click on it to reveal the folder you just Imported!
3. Then drag the folder you just Imported out of the Import folder to "On My Mac" in SL Mail; you can then delete the Import folder.
4. Repeat until all your folders are where you want them (in SL).
5. When you have time, go back into ML and clear all those .mbox files from your Desktop.
There MAY be an easier way, but this is what worked for me.The iOS view vs classic view in Mail is not the problem; I've already configured for classic view.
Mountain Lion itself is.
My short list (to date) of crappy Mountain Lion behavior; items marked with a double asterisk (**)represent the worst of Mountain Lion for me.
** No up/down arrows in scroll bar slider;
Expose` not as easy to navigate as in Snow Leopard;
Mail does not request passwords for either receive or send;
No "Save Draft" icon in Mail compose window (workaround: use command-s);
"Save As" selection missing in most app menus;
No separate Search window in Safari (workaround: use Firefox or Opera);
** Can't export Mail from Mountain Lion into Snow Leopard if downgrading (I compiled this list before I stumbled on the method in this thread, but I'd prefer to effect this with Unix symbolic links);
iWork 09 seems to have "circled the wagons" re compatibility with MS Office or LibreOffice (workaround: just use Libreoffice); -
Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600
Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600. Upgraded from OS 10.4 and printer showed on printer list along with an Epson scanner. but continually shows printer as offline. I finally deleted the HP Color Laserjet 2600n from the printer list. When I attempted to re-install it, it doesn't find the printer at all. I haven't attempted to use the scanner. I also went to HP and downloaded the driver, no luck. I've restarted the computer multiple times, tried it with the printer on, and printer off, as well as pulled the usb cable in and out both ends. No error message on the printer display and it gpes through normal warmup until it shows the green light. I run software update and it shows no updates needed. Help!
Go down a few more posts to the question about the C7180. Answer:
"Re: iPhoto 08 + HP Photosmart C7180

When you press print the first window is pretty basic.
When you select print on that the next window should have an advanced option.
Click that and see if any of the options in the 3rd dropdown box allow you to specify the 'paper tray'.
AC "
In this new windaow, click "advanced", go to "paper type/quality" and choose " best" and a photo paper. Then you will be able to choose a paper source (photo tray).
Once you have these settings, under presets do "save as", and you can choose the preset instead of going to advanced.
If you have the latest software and drivers downloaded from HP, this will work.

I have a Mac Pro with four hard drives. I currently have Lion installed on one hard drive. I want to have the option to boot from either Lion or Snow Leopard. How can I do this?
It's best to install Snow Leopard on one of the three remain drives without an Operating System.
You can then install the applications you need from the original media. Create a User Account using Setup Assistant.
Do you want to migrate User Accounts from the OSX LIon boot drive, or are you keeping the User Accounts separate?
Dual-booting just requires holding the option key during startup and selecting either Lion or Snow Leopard. -
i reformatted my mac pro from lion back to snow leopard how do i get my music back. i have it on my iphone and when i sync up i still do not have my music on my mac how do i transfer it back to my mac.
Wow, you didn't make a backup of your files first?
You shoudl have come here first for help before doing that.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/16276201#16276201
All I can say is make sure you have the same account name on the computer like before, even if you have to create a new user under System Preferences>accounts, then log into your itunes account with that and try to reverse sync from the iPhone like you would normally.
Apple doesn't expect one to go backwards, so they are not all that friendly, you may have to ask around on MacRumors for third party software that can reverse sync from iOS devices.
Good luck -
My time machine does not want to save any more the data from my powerbook 13" Snow Leopard; i get the message "Time Machine could not suppress the disk image of saving "Volumes/Time Capsule Disk/PowerBook _2011_03_21_123627 sparsebundle" What is the problem? What should I do?
Thanks !!
AlainCould that read " . . . could not access . . ."? If so, try repairing your backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
If not, or if that doesn't help, see #A1 there. Use the TM Buddy widget it details to copy and post the messages here. -
I recently updated? to Lion from 10.6.8(snow leopard), and things seem to be running slower. Has anyone had similar problems? I have Feb 2011 Macbook pro 13" 2.3 Ghz.
As Shootist pointed out, the system uses more power.
However, initially it will reindex the hard drive for spotlight, which will slow things down temporarily.
It also must rebuild caches that eventually will speed things up.
If it has completed indexing the hard drive (no dot pulsing in the spyglass), then there might be something wrong.
Start by booting into the Recovery HD (a partition created with Lion that has Disk Utility and reinstallation options) by holding down cmd-r when you restart. You can let go when the gray screen appears.
When it boots, select Disk Utility and Repair the drive.
If that doesn't speed things up, try re-installing the OS from the same Recovery HD. It won't delete any of your files, but it has helped some people whose Macs ran slow after installing Lion.
Also, how much memory do you have? Lion needs RAM so maxing your Mac out might also help. -
I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. I know, I'm years behind, but it has become a necessity. My Mac is becoming slow and is incompatible with many softwares and websites. Does anyone know of any problems associated with this upgrade? What are the implications and/or consequences of installing Yosemite? Does it effect functionality of v10.6.8 software or hardware? Are there any precautions I should take before the installation? I have read some posts about Macs slowing right down after installing Yosemite. Any insights and information (in layman's terms please!) would be very useful. Thanks.
Huge thanks for your response Michel. I apologise for the delay in getting back to you. I have done as you suggested, the details are pasted below. Clearly there are some applications I need to remove and no doubt my HD could do with a 'spring clean'. My Mac 'Safe Booted' when I turned it on this morning.
I use many different softwares, some web-based. The decision to upgrade to OSX Yosemite is because I was unable to attend a Webinar this week using GoToMeeting downloadable software. GoToMeeting have upgraded their system and my OS is no longer supported. Other websites like VImeo no longer support my version of Safari. I tend to use Chrome if Safari isn't compatible.
Problem description:
I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. However I have noticed that my MacBook Pro becoming ‘slow’ over the last 3 weeks and therefore might have some issues that need to be resolved before I even consider installing OSX Yosemite. Over the last week my Mac has Safe Booted on three occasions, so clearly there’s a ‘glitch’ occurring.

How open raw from canon eos 70D in elements 11
I cannot open raw from canon eos 70D in photoshop elements 11. Help me please.
Your PSE is too old—the camera was released after a newer version of software was available and Adobe only adds new camera support to the newest version of software.
Specifically, the 7D Mark II needs ACR 8.7 and PSE12 can only be updated to ACR 8.5.
Your choices are to:
Use the DNG Converter 8.7 or newer to create DNGs from the CR2s and those DNGs will open in the older version of ACR that comes with PSE12, OR
Buy the newer version of Element 13 that can be updated to a new enough Adobe Camera Raw plugin.
The DNG Converter is available from the Adobe Updates page:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
And the newer version of Elements is available from the Adobe Products page:
http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software.html
Another option would be to use Lightroom 5.7 or newer and use Edit in Photoshop Elements from LR once most of your raw adjustments are done, for any final touches in Elements.
For any of these choices you’d want to download the latest updates and run the software in trial mode to make sure your computer is compatible before paying anything.
BTW, I have the 7D Mark II and like it very much, having upgraded from an older Digital Rebel, but I’m not that thrilled with the in-camera JPG processing so always use Adobe products for raw development. -
Can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard
I can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have a standard iWork '08 install. Has anyone experienced? And better yet, know of a fix?Welcome to Apple Discussions
Most users who have had a problem opening Office files with the iWork apps after upgrading to Snow Leopard have the problem fixed by updating to the latest versions. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work. -
I just puchased a used 2008 MacPro 2.8 ghz 8 core and it has Mountain Lion installed on it. I want to go back to Snow Leopard because it is a better stable OS for using Final Cut Pro 7. I just bought the Snow Leopard Discs to install. I need to erase the hard drive and install Snow Leopard. Any help on how
to do this? Thank you.Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups made while on Snow Leopard, then you may do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion/Mountain Lion files.
