Opening raw nikon 5200 files

What plug in do i need to open Nikon 5200 raw files in cs5?

There's no direct support for your camera in CS5.
It would require ACR 7.3 or higher, which only work with CS6.
You can download and run the free Adobe DNG Converter 7.4 to convert your raw Canon files to raw DNGs which you can then open in CS5.

  • CS6 can't open Raw Nikon D4 files

I cannot open Raw files from my Nikon D4 in CS6 beta but I can in CS5 as it updated Camera Raw recently for it to work with the D4. Can I update CS6 for it to open Nikon D4 Raw files ?

Hello, ACR 7 and ACR 6.7 and Lightroom 4 do not support the same cameras, it was done to get the products out of the door as soon as possible.
But you can use the DNG converter 6.7 on the files to be able to open them in ACR 7 in CS6 beta. see: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/03/raw-support-in-lightroom-and-camera-raw.ht ml
Also, it is a good moment to remind @Nikon_USA or @Nikon_Photo that they should support DNG in their cameras.
They are using useful engineering time in all raw converters teams, and even have to update their own converter at the release of each camera!
And if they are concerned with trade secrets, there is always private maker notes for that!

  • How do I open RAW Nikon D600 files on PS Elements 9?

I've just bought a Nikon D600 but I can't open the raw files in PS Elements 9, what do I need to do, thanking you in advance for your help, David

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

How can i open a raw nikon D300s file in photoshop 7.0.1?

The D300s was first supported in Camera Raw 5.5

Raw 5.5 is only compatible with Photoshop CS4 and later

    Your options:
    Join the Cloud, or

  • Opening RAW or NEF Files

Hello, I am new to PSE (v.9,PC), but my first challenge is:
WHY, when I open a RAW File, the Camera Raw File Editor opens (I think that's what it's called) with the file/pic prior to opening the file/pic in the full Elements program?
I do like and want the ability to "adjust" the WB or EXP or.....   whatever, but the problem I am having is that the RAW file, when opened in the CRFE(?) is all WASHED OUT when compared to the identical Jpeg (Fine) file???
When I look atr the thumbnail through the Editor, it appears to be the same pic, but when it is opened, and the CRFE opens, it seems CRFE is "imparting change/s) to the pic.
Has my "custom" modifications been changed, to reflect an effect to be added to all RAW files, or ??????
All I want to do is to be able to open a RAW File, without any modifiactions, and save it as a Jpeg file, and hopefully without any changes.
Please Help, I will be forever GRATEFUL - Dave Reider

I really do thank you for your patience and persistence.
However; I can comprehend "the concept" of what you are describing with the two different file types "seeing" something slightly different from one another, so WHY then, do both Jpeg and Raw files look EXACTLY the same when opened up in Capture NX??????
The only difference that I can see, is that in Capture NX, it doesn't launch a Camera Raw Editor, which is where this Dummy's money is betting on as the culprit.
Also, to your point, I have seen other similar issues posted qith both Nikon and Canon, with some indicating Jpeg was better over Raw (as in my case) and for others it was the Raw which was superior.
Thanks again, and I hope you all Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Subject: Opening RAW or NEF Files
As I said earlier, there is no "right" view of your photo. The JPG is changed from what the sensor saw, the RAW is changed from what the sensor saw; they are just changed diffferently from one another.
Those are the facts of life in digital photography.
Most people would say RAW is the smart way to go, but RAWs usually require more work to get a pleasing result. So there are tradeoffs ... RAW can give you higher quality results than JPG if you edit the photos properly; but JPGs are usually less work.

  • Does PS support RAW Nikon .NEF files

Can RAW (Nikon .NEF) files be imported into PS Elements 11

    Hi there
Yes, PS Elements 11 supports RAW files with the Camera Raw plugin. Just make sure you have the latest version of RAW installed and that you are using a compatible camera.
Here are some additional links, as well as a list of supported Nikon cameras:

  • TS2518 My RAW (nikon .NEF) files changing to a dull, darker version of themselves after selecting them for the first time after import.

My RAW (nikon .NEF) files are literally changing to a dull, darker version of themselves after selecting them for the first time after import. I.e. The correct photo (light/color/etc) seems to be there and then a second later the photo changes. It's almost like it's showing a quick enhanced version then back to basic raw image. Started within last two updates.
Is there a fix or is this the straw that forces a switch to Lightroom?

Just recall that Aperture (or any other 3rd party raw converter) has NO information about the JPEG preview and how it was made.  That information is camera-vendor proprietary.
Also note that there are like 6 "picture styles" in camera and this change you're seeing is entirely dependent on how you have them set.  If you have your camera set to "vivid" or something you'll see more of a change than if your on-camera is set to "faithful."
That said, people here ALSO complain that Aperture's initial renders are TOO vivid, the exact opposite of your complaint, so you can't please everybody (in some cases, it seems you can't please ANYBODY ;-)
Aperture provides a starting point.  Again, if you don't like it, you can tell Aperture to go with a "punchier" interpretation at its first render.  In the import dialog, try setting Aperture to use the "auto enhance" preset which is built in.  Aperture will add a little vibrancy adjustment, and it will add a curve, which will greatly add punch to the image.  If you want adjustments in a different direction, you can create a preset and set it at import.
The only thing Aperture CANNOT do is what you're asking, which is "take the JPEG that my camera vendor generates through some voodoo and try and render the raw file just like that."  It's, unfortunately, impossible to do.

  • CS5 opening raw (flat binary) files

In CS4, I can open a flat binary file (say 512x512x 2bytes/pixel), by selecting open->photoshop raw and all documents-- this launches a Photoshop Raw Options window in which I select the image size (ie 512 x512), how many bytes/pixel, ibm or mac byte order and some header info. When I do the same thing in CS5, instead of the options window I get a Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.  Any work arounds or other options ?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I just tried it myself: the mechanics are the same.
Wait - I bet you clicked on the file *after* selecting the file format.
Cocoa (used in CS5) wants to adjust the file format for what you clicked on.
Select the file, then select the format.

  • Can't open RAW Nikon files (NEF) using PS3 10.0 running 10.6.8 , think there is a conflict with camera Raw plug-in. Can't open raw images in bridge or photoshop.

I think I may have a Camera Raw plug-in conflict or plug in may be in the wrong place. In both PS3 and Bridge Nikon raw files (NEF) will not open. I've noticed that in photoshop in the pull down menu-about plug-in, I have 2 Camera Raw (s) listed, getting info one is 4.0, the other 4.6.0.30. It appears that my files and .xmp are 4.0 just by searching for 'Camera Raw' either 4. or 4.6 in spotlight. nothing is listed in spotlight under camera raw 4.6, but all my images are listed in the spotlight if I search for camera raw 4.0! I can not open either in Bridge or Photoshop CS3 I just receive the error message 'could not complete this request because photoshop does not reconize this type of file'. any help would this is greatfully appreciated. Thanks

Well if you have a fairly new Nikon camera PS CS3 will not have the proper version of ACR to support that camera.
You could use the Adobe DNG converter to convert the NEF files to DNGs or you can update PS to a newer version that does have support for newer cameras or you could buy Adobe Lightroom V4 which also has support for the newer Nikon cameras.

As a photographer I shoot in RAW or CR2 an di have used my photoshop elements to tweak my pictures for hte last year but now my program says "Wrong type of file"...nothing has changed, so why can't I open these any more? Anyone? please help
    Thanks

What camera model and what version of the raw plug-in are you using with Elements?
It is possible the pictures are corrupted and cannot be read.  You can try opening them in the Canon DPP software that should have come with your camera and try exporting as a JPG from inside there and see if it also reports a bad file.   Or you can post a public download link for one of your files, here, and others can try the files in their Photoshop or Lightroom and see if they work or not.

  • Iphoto v5.0.4 and RAW Nikon D1X files

Iphoto will not import Nikon D1X RAW files, only TIFF's & JPG's. Is there an update for this problem ?As I always tend to shoot in RAW initially.
    Dan Rose

    Hi Jack!
If you're new working with RAW files, your right, it just doesn't make sense. RAW <imho> is a bit overrated. One thing you will need to keep in mind when shooting in RAW, is you will still need to take a well exposed image. What RAW files will allow are CHANGES in all areas of the image v. JPEG which may allow you to ADJUST a few settings in the image. My only suggestion would be to kepp playing around with PSE until you get the hang of it, it is an excellent image editing software. But realize, a well exposed JPEG and RAW file are hard to tell apart...
Personally, I do not directly download RAW files through iPhoto but will create a folder and download to here, and simply drage folder to iPhoto to import (which are then 'converted' into JPEG files). This way I have the original RAW images safely located outside of iPhoto as well as in iPhoto. You should set Elements as your choice of application to edit files inside iPhoto.
    Good luck, Rick

  • Photoshop Elements 6 won't open RAW with XMP file.

    Hi,
I searched for an answer but, could not find an answer.
I edited a RAW file with Photoshop Elements 6 (mac). I saved the file and closed the program. Next day I fire up PSE6 and open the same RAW file; the file is unedited. How can I open the RAW file with the edits I made the day before? I see the xmp file in finder.
I'm still on the trial version. Camera is a Canon 50D. I can open and edit the RAW with out problem. When I start PSE6 Adobe update fails and gives me the options: Ignore,Relaunch,Send report to Apple.
After that PSE opens for me
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope.
    Thanks.

Are you hitting the save button? That is creating a DNG file someplace. If you just want to save your edits, that should happen automatically when you click Open or Done. If it doesn't, try going to your username>preferences folder and deleting the Adobe Camera Raw preferences.

  • All of a sudden my RAW (Nikon D7100) files are dark after importing

Could anyone tell me why all of a sudden my NEF files from my Nikon D7100 raw files turn dark after importing them to Lightroom 4.4? I did use Dactive lighting setting in camera...is this why? Is there anyway to stop this from happening? THanks!

    dj_paige wrote:
I would turn off the D-active lighting
    I can't argue with that.
    dj_paige wrote:
it does not help eith raw images.
That would be truer if stated thusly:
Having ADL on will make for darker initial rendering in Lightroom and reveal non-optimal ADL setting as under-exposed images.
However (and contrary to popular belief), that does NOT mean there is no value using ADL in conjunction with Lightroom for post-processing - quite the contrary: there are ALL the same benefits as when using ADL in conjunction with NX2, *except* that the compensations are applied automatically in NX2, and non-optimal setting manifests as a slight reduction in shadow image quality and not as under-exposed images when using NX2 instead of Lightroom for post-processing.

  • Cannot work on raw nikon D750 files

    Hi there
I just upgraded to CC as my LR4 couldn't read the RAW (NEF) files from my D750. However, they are still not 'available'. I have no idea how to fix this....any ideas?

It should be in the next Lightroom update. The current version came out before the D750 came out. In the mean time you can convert to dng and edit your raw files in Lightroom just fine: Lightroom Support for Nikon D750 - YouTube
