Opening recent documents - how to avoid

Every time I open an document, as for example a PDF doc, all the recent PDFs docs open together.
How can I avoid this; where do I find the setting to avoid this behaviour?

In System Preferences > General > uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps"

Repair for missing "open recent" documents option in my File Menu?

Can someone suggest how to repair a missing "open recent" documents option in my File Menu? I'm using CS5 Indesign.
There's no option for it greyed out or otherwise. It originally had dissappeared while using CS4. I gave up on it. Installed CS5 and hoped it would come back: nada. I did the Ctrl-Alt-Shift thing and deleted prefs file: Still no recent docs option. VERY IRRITATING.
There's got to be a way. But I'm not informed enough. Help, please?

This is easily fixed...took me a while to find out how.
Go into Preferences, click on File Handling...you will then see a page with 'Saving InDesign Files' in the middle section (See attached screen grab). You'll see a box next to 'Number of Recent Items to Display' which I'm assuming will be '0'...change this to any number up to 99. Click OK. Close InDesign. Reopen InDesign...Open a file, close the file...you will now see the 'Open Recent' link when you click on file.
Problem solved.

Unfortunately, we (Adobe Reader mobile team) do not know if/when Apple will fix the attachment problems (software defects) in Apple Mail.
In particular, the attachment problem with Microsoft Outlook (See Problem #2 in How to avoid known PDF email attachment problems) appears to be a long-standing defect that has been known for years. However, Apple has not provided any fix for Apple Mail yet.
Adobe Reader for iOS merely launches Apple Mail (the default mail app on iOS) to send a PDF document as an attachment. Adobe Reader has no control over whether or not to embed a preview image of an attachment in the body of an email message, which is known to cause the problem with Microsoft Outlook (on the receiving side). The same problem happens when you send a single-page PDF document as an attachment along with an email signature from Apple iBooks on iOS.
For now, all iPad/iPhone users can do is to avoid the problems by using the workarounds that are described in How to avoid known PDF email attachment problems.
When new and different problems with PDF attachments are reported by Adobe Reader for iOS users, we will update the document above.

ClarisWorks opens AppleWorks documents - how to fix this?

I have both AppleWorks and CarisWorks for Mac OS 9.2.2. I want AppleWorks to open my documents when I double click on them, but instead it opens ClarisWorks. All of those documents were created in AppleWorks before I wiped my system clean. Is there something I can set in Claris Works to not assoscaite files or something?

There is no need to have two versions of AppleWorks 6 installed. Although I do for a couple of reasons, it's not something I recommend for the average user. Beginning with OS X support in AppleWorks 6.2, the application is actually a package & has both Classic & OS X versions in one. The one for the system you are running at the time will launch, you don't have to do anything special. One package contains 6.2.3 & 6.2.4, another contains 6.2.8 & 6.2.9.
As I said before, your Mac should try to open the files with the newest version, 6.2.8/6.2.9, but ClarisWorks 1 is so old. Even though I do occasionally use Classic, I don't remember enough about OS 9 to advise on setting the default program for opening files. I can understand keeping ClarisWorks/AppleWorks 5 but what does ClarisWorks 1 have that you need?

Open Recent menu - How to get more projects in it

I've changed the system preferences -> appearance settings
but logic is still only showing the last ten projects.
back in logic 5.5 days I could have heaps more.

After Effects 7.0 not opening recent documents

Since loading the latest Flash update my After Effects projects from 2/7/14 will not open in After Effects 7.0. I did nothing to After Effects and they were opening a few weeks ago. How do I solve this problem? Last time I had it, I was in the middle of a big a job and it took me hours on the phone with Adobe to correct the problem. Please send me the link if I need to do something without delay this time.

Power Point open multiple windows - how to avoid this bad behavior?

When one presentation is opened multiple ppt is also opened. It is told to be a Yosemite issue. Does anybody know how to stop this behavour?

Andrew, sorry, but that's not correct. That was true with the iBook, but the MacBook and MacBook Pro are designed to be able to run with the screen closed. It takes a hack (used at the owner's risk) to keep the MB or MBP from sleeping when the lid is closed, but both systems are engineered such that once the lid is closed and the system goes to sleep, it can be then awakened and run if an external monitor, keyboard and mouse are connected. This is by design and fully supported by Apple. Of course the MB/MBP needs to be in a setting where it gets full cooling; on a solid surface, nothing blanketing the top and nothing blocking the rear vents.

How can I effectively avoid that re-started applications automatically re-open recent documents?

Inverted logic to yours. Restore... is unchecked. Nonetheless, re-opening is not effectively deactivated. For ecxample when I reboot the Mac with a lot of Applications + Documents open, and when I start the one or the other application then it comes up with the recently opened document. Even Terminal shows me the whole recent contents of a ssh session to a database server.
In the "Do you really want to Restart? Are yor 1000 % sure?" box, re-opening apps is deactivated.
On a travel, visiting customers, Keynote at customer B, automatically came up with a presentation for the customer A (competitor of B). This was very embarrassing and this is inacceptable.

Try setting the check boxes in Edit>Preferences>General for the following:
- Make Hand tool select text & images
- Make Hand tool read articles
- Make Hand tool use mouse-wheel zooming
Adjust these as needed but does it make any difference?

Word Web App can't open a document (corruption) but Word Desktop can

My team and I are currently working on integrating a custom WOPI-Host and everything is going pretty good. While testing out different documents that will be used in the system to see the supported features and the reaction of Word Web App we found
a document that is problematic.
First things first, we took a document that was in Word 97-2003 version (.doc) and converted it in Word Documents (.docx). We had to actually use the Word Desktop Convert functionality because using "Save As" wouldn't work. We found
out that the document had Custom XML Data which was the reason that the "Save As" didn't work. So we did 2 version of the document in docx version. One that kept the Custom XML Data and one that didn't have it.
Now when we try to open the documents in the Word Web App, both trigger the same error: "Sorry, Word Web App can't edit this document because it appears to be corrupt.". What I don't really understand is that I can open them in the Desktop
version of Word without any problems. Also, if it was simply the Custom XML Data that would prevent Word Web App to open the document, how come the version of the document without these Custom XML Data is still considered corrupted by the Word Web App.
If needed, I can send the documents in question (probably by email since I don't see an option to attach them to this question).

I understand you can't open the Word documents from Word Web App, but may I know how you converted them? What is that "Word Desktop Convert functionality"? Would you please detail the steps of the conversation?
When you try the "Save As" method, any prompt or error? Can you keep saving just ignoring the error?
Before the conversation, I suggest you try removing the hyperlinks in the original .doc document, then convert the document to .docx format, check if then it can be opened from the Word Web App.

You have 17 options to save as in Open Office, one of which is .doc files, yes it needs to be saved manually.
You may be able to default to DOC, but have not tried same.
Since Open Office is 99% same as Word, I use it, or Word, either one. Open Office is a bit less buggy than Word 11'
