Opening recent project sees it totally empty !

Premiere Pro CS3
Just opened a project I had last worked on and completed in Feb 2010 and its totally empty, nothing in timeline, no assets, nothing !
Hells Bells !
I had finished it and created an avi then authored and burned a dvd from that. It displayed with cropping. Now having sussed that issue after trying out various options (solved by adding in black margins) I need to alter the images within the project to those with the margins, but everything is missing.
Searched the entire PC for *.prproj and this project is the one I had worked on.
Thats very worrying if Premiere can wipe out ones work like that. I see another posting also had the same trouble.
I tried resetting work area to default, not that I had altered it from such anyway, but made no difference.
Any ideas, else I have to do the entire project all over again.
In future I shall save as filename_s1 then s2 then s3 as I go along !
Envirographics

It came from right next to the S, to the right actually.
Maybe it was the fact that I have already declared "wine-thirty" here, but I had to laugh. Just glad that I did not have a mouthful of my Chalone Pinnacles Chardonnay, when I read that. Maybe I had begun the wine tasting, when my feeble fingers found that "d" key in the first place... ?
Thank you for the chuckle. Maybe I need one of those keyboard covers for hazardous environments?

  • Opening Recent Projects

I am having trouble finding recent projects that are no longer listed in the drop down list of "Open Recent Projects". How can I find them?

Just to expand on what Joe, Harm and Bill advise, if you find the PROJ files on your C or Boot drive you may what to change the preferences so that all Premiere files etc are on at least one dedicated media drive
On my laptop I have CS5.5
On the "D" drive I created a folder called Adobe_CS and it is to this folder that I set the preferences so all projects, auto save, preview, media cache and my media files are kept within this folder.  This is a little messy as everything is in the one folder and from time to time a clean up is required
Bill's method if I read it correctly will require you to create a folder for each project and then set the project preferences to use the newly created folder.  Then each folder will be at the same level and within it will be the project file, media cache, previews, auto saves etc which are related to just that project
This is actually a great system as when you have completed the project you can if you wish archive the whole folder and then delete the original
On a desktop the arrangment can be different depending upon how many drives you have available

  • Increase number of "open recent" projects

Is it possible to do this? I went through the preferences, but didn't see a choice. I could have missed it, as I'm partially blind. Bummer!
    TIA.

    Hi there
To my knowledge there is no way to control the number of projects stored in the Open Recent list. Once the number of project exceeds whatever number is the limit, the oldest project disappears from the list.
If you would like to advise Adobe that you would like to see such a feature in a future update, please click the link below and complete the request.

  • Cannot re open recent project??

I've just tried to open a recent project in GarageBand but it has come up "file not found".  It shows all the regions but there is nothing there.  Can anyone help??
    Tim

Well, here is the solution to my own problem. I give it to you in case you get the same problem one day.
The solution is as simple as impossible to find on your own: launch Bridge before launching Encore! Yes, that's it. If Bridge is running when you start Encore and open your project, it all works just fine.
In my case, the project was a bit damaged as many files where not located properly. I just hit the "Skip all" button when prompted and got into my project. Then I re-assigned each unfound file (in italic) with the original one. That was quite easy in the end.
I find it incredible that Encore will work only when Bridge is launched. In that case, I can only recommend to have plenty of RAM. In all cases it is a nasty bug.
I hope it will help someone some day.
    Cheers.

  • Problem with opening recent projects

    Hello all,
I've been working on a project on FCP since july and I've been saving it to an external HD since then.
There's been 3-4 other projects I've worked on along the way, and I've tried to keep everything organized and saved properly (I.e. I always set my scratch disk to the external before editing and saving)
Every once in a while I will open FCP after plugging my external in to edit my project and it will not open in the bin!! When I go to file > open to find the project there are no recently saved projects that I had worked on the day before but instead months ago!
In short, what happened to my project file? I tried searching my external and even my laptop's HD to look for the most recently modified/saved project but to no avail!
Is there anyway to retrieve it?? I made many important edits the other day and I hate the idea of starting all over losing months and months of edit time!!

Problem solved I Found the sequence! It turned up in another project's folder!

    Is that where you looked?

I looked in System Folder>Startup Items , which was empty, you were correct !

  • CC 14 crashes on Mac after opening recent project

So after hours of work yesterday, Premiere Pro CC 14 gave me the dreaded Mac spinning wheel of death. No error messages, it just wont respond.  Relaunched.  Rebooted.  Repaired discs.  Installed updates. Reinstalled program.
    Nothing/
Launch and create a new project, or open a very early auto save version, but the version I need won't launch.
    Ideas?

I got the same issues after upgraded from Illustrator CC to Illustrator CC2014 on 10.10.2

  • DVD Studio Pro not opening recent projects or able to apple menus/templates

    Hi,
I am having a serious issue. For some reason DVDSP is not allowing me to open any former projects. I click on the file to open in DVDSP and it tries to load all of the menus and it just stalls. Then I tried to create a new file. Open the app and it looked fine. I was able to import assets, then when I tried to create a menu, I got a progress bar and it once again stalled with trying to apple the template.
I have several projects that I have to finish so......Please Help Me!! :/
Oh yes, I have MBP, 10.4.11, FCP 6.0.5, DVDSP 4.2.1. I'm about to do an update right now. Not sure if it will work though. So I'm guess I need to know if I have to uninstall/delete DVDSP and reinstall. If so, how do I do that??

Hi Nick, thank you for your reply. I tried what you said, but nothing different happened.
Does anyone else have any advise?

  • How can I get more than 5 items in my Recent Projects list?

After a rather horrendous incident with trying to do a series of videos all in one project using bins and shared media and a savefile that got *WAYYY* out of hand (20 minutes to load the file)- which I believe was tied to importing media from another .proj file, I have switched to a more modular approach with anywhere from 2-5 projects in each project and now a collection of around 15-25 projects on the go. Most of these are "work on a chapter, then change to another project while waiting for footage for another project" and several of them share pieces including multicam segments and sync'd audio.
Rather than importing from another project, I am using Control-C, switch to a different project file, then paste in. This isn't the most "Adobe Professional" style way of doing things, but considering that I lost several hours to trying to recover from the last project, even when I only needed to spend 20 minutes pumping out a rough cut, I'm not going back to that method until my next computer upgrade and until I begrudgingly switch to CC in around 1-1.5 year's time.
So the issue that I'm faced with is that I'm often using the Open Recent Project flyout and having 5 projects on that list is just not enough to be remotely useful.
In MS Office, the list is quite long and even in photoshop, I can get 10. That's enough for my Photoshop, but I switch projects using the Recent Projects list in Premiere a LOT more often. I could just use my explorer windows to jump around, but given that I have 5-6 explorer windows open per project most of which are folders crammed with footage, PSD stills and peak files, plus other non-video things I'm working on right now, that's really not the simplest way to navigate at a glance.
How can I get 10, 20 or 25 items in that flyout list instead of mucking about with 5?
I run Adobe Production Premium CS6.

I see a lot of people not reading the circumstances of what I said.
I did mention that currently I use the "explorer" method and it's kind of clumsy. Although I liked the idea of using shortcuts. I had thought about moving the files, but didn't think about shortcuts... considering everything on my desktop is a shortcut, I'm really not sure why I didn't think of that.
But I did mention that I almost always have anywhere from 12-15 windows open at any given time in my explorer. I am involved with management of 4 different companies right now, two of which are in startup mode. Videos are important for me, but not my only duty. These windows only go down when I shut down my computer, which happens on average once every 4 months. It is not a problem on a reasonably capable system.
Still, for a project of currently 23 files (just got increased to 28 and expected to rise to 32-35), and because I have had project files go sour on me, I keep some hierarchy and because I don't have 100% creative control over all my projects, I also occasionally have to do re-overs ie when a specific style of writ is nixed by a boss or customer. Those 23 project files also have version iterations.
So navigating 'at a glance' through a file explorer isn't always the most practical.
In the end, I'll probably try to find some time to re-organize my file structure using shortcuts.
Still, given the number of 'recent files' can be modified or is larger than 5 in: Windows Start Menu, Recent documents, Adobe PDF recent documents, Adobe Photoshop, All Office suite programs...
It's just weird that there's only 5 for a program intended for the kind of people that work on projects somewhat larger in scope than "hey, we took the dog to the park the other day".
@Jerry Klaimon - not sure what version of Premiere you're using, I'm using CS6 with Production Premium CS6. Recent files only shows 5. Photoshop shows 9. For my current workload, I'd probably want 10-12 and it would be nice if they could go to 20 or more IMHO. Look at History states. History states default to 20. I usually set this to 35 whenever I set up any user's computer. It's easy to choose what suits me from the preferences menu. I don't see why they wouldn't have the same idea for 'recent files'
@anyone who thinks I'm stupid - please feel free to insult me. A forum scuffle is often a great way to get the attention of moderators who might be in a position to pass this idea on to someone who could do something about it. I'm also anal, stubborn, holier-than-thou and not-as-smart-as-i-think-i-am if you want some ideas to get started .
@Steven Gotz - you are quite correct that asking is important. Probably a smarter thing to do before pestering the devs with feature requests is to thoroughly check to see if it is in fact already existing. Adobe products are famous for having features that nobody knows about. Most of the questions I have that Google or Lynda.com didn't answer have been answered here in the forums. Then once I've seen that a few hundred pairs of eyes sharper than mine have also come up with nothing, then perhaps it might be worthwhile sending in a feature request. In this case, I will probably toss a feature request in later, but I'll probably just use your idea of keeping a master project folder with shortcuts.
@MarkMapes - I do not have a problem loading files. Project files load just fine for me. But I have one project file that has a problem that loads a HUGE amount of RAM and takes nearly 20 minutes to open. It even takes almost 8 minutes to close it. It was acting as my master file with everything nested in sequences and I needed to spend a whole afternoon to pull those sequences out using copy-paste because bringing them in via Import Sequence brought the problem into the new file. I would file that under "glitched save files" rather than "slow loading".
@Jon-M-Spear - good idea too - although I did cringe a bit at the suggestion of putting things on the desktop. I have bad habits and I work very hard to try to make other people who have worse habits in this company to try to get them to not keep anything on the desktop. In fact, it's probably my favorite thing about Windows 7 that you can have a clear or nearly totally clear desktop.
    Thanks for your comments folks.

  • Can't open recently made iDVD projects

I recently went into iDVD to watch an old slideshow/movie that I had made a couple months ago. I tried to open it and got this message:
The following files could not be found: Type
    /Users/stacielebano/Documents/Cuba 2009-DVD.dvdproj/Content Audio
    /Users/stacielebano/Documents/Cuba 2009-DVD.dvdproj/Content Video
Another message I get when I ignore the first one:
    Broken link
    /Users/stacielebano/Documents/Cuba 2009-DVD.dvdproj/Contents/Resources/iMovie/movie
I tried to open other projects I have made and got the same message. I went into iMovie and all of the raw footage is still there. I updated iDVD, thinking that might solve the problem, but it didn't. Very frustrated, because of the time spent on these projects. Yes, I have them burned onto a DVD, but we like to watch them on occasion on the mac.
    Any suggestions????
    Thanks,
    Stacie

It won't help you now, but in the future do a File>Archive Project in iDVD to save all your assets in an archive. Since it includes copies of the actual files, instead of just links to those files, an archive file can be quite large.

  • Projects dont appear in "Open Recent"

Ever since i started to save my files and projects to my external Firewire HD (Projects and Media files), my projects dont show up in the "open recent" tab.
The Projects that i saved on my internal HD do, but any project i start on my external drive wont show up.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

Might trash prefs, and give it another go, but you're system will run best if the project file isn't on the same drive that your media resides on. It really is best kept in your documents folder on your startup disk.
Since it's relatively a small file, resaving it over and over creates small gaps on the scratch disk, which leads to slower performance of the drive if you're adding media via capture or render etc...

  • TS1702 My garage band app has crashed & keeps returning to the main screen when I try to open it... I've tried most of the trouble shooting options with the exception of re-installing the app, because I fear I will lose a number of recent projects I have

My garage band app has crashed & keeps returning to the main screen when I try to open it... I've tried most of the trouble shooting chart (no updates available, tried restarting app, restarted device) all I have left is to re-install the app... My main fear is that if I do this I will lose a load of recent projects that are saved to the app that I've spent the last few days creating... Help...

I have tried all those things I even updated the software to the new iOS system and it still did fix my problem.
What happened is that my garage band looks like it will open then it shuts down.
I have lot of important things on my garage band and I'm afraid that if I uninstall it deleting it then reinstalling it all my work on it will be gone and I can't have that happen.
Everyday I am hoping that when i go to open the app that is will work but it doesn't it gets ready to turn on then it shuts off , the app doesn't even open all the way and turns off.
I really hope I don't have to erase it.
It'll say it's ,lading my songs then it shuts down .
If I waited for the App Store to come up with an update for garage band should I wait till then to update my app so it doesn't get damaged . I don't want to erase it and all my data get erased . I figured if I wait for an update then my garage band will reset itself but won't delete my data. I'm not sure if that will help. Is there anything you or anyone else might know that can help me with this matter ?
    Thank you

  • "Open recent..." menu always empty

    Hi,
since i run Mac OS X Leopard the File > "Open recent..." menu is always empty although i have set the number of Recent items to 15 in System Preferences.
I thought this could be due to permission problems but Disk Utility claims that everything is alright.
I highly appreciate any ideas to solve this, because this is really annoying.
    Thanks

IIRC, you have to set that within each application, using this Terminal command:
*defaults write com.XXXX."name of app" NSRecentDocumentsLimit YYY*
where XXX = company, "name of app" = self explanatory, and YYY is the desired integer value. E.g., for TextEdit, I used:
    *defaults write com.apple.textedit NSRecentDocumentsLimit 30*
Relaunching TextEdit and you'll see File->Open Recent->shows last 30 opened documents.
