Opening Safari pdf documents automatically in Preview

With Lion, Safari opens pdf documents in a Safari tab by default (as it did in OS X 10.6). I want pdfs to open automatically in Preview (or Acrobat depending on what I have set as the default pdf reader) without having to Cmd-Click/Open in Preview. This was possible in 10.6 by disabling an adobe plugin. Is there now an option for opening pdf documents in Preview by default, rather than in a Safari tab?

Also these documents are protected from Saving and Printing.
You can't protect PDF documents from saving.

I wonder if it's possible to 'run'/open from a standalone appliation a pdf document. I mean, my program produces a pdf file and it saves it on the local c drive. once this is completed i wonder how can i open it and show it to the enduser. Let me elaborate a little more on what I am trying to do.
(1) A website (#1) is opened after entering a UID and PWD.
(2) Within website #1, a link is clicked which opens a second web app (#2) in a seperate window using window.open().
(3) Within website #2, a user can click on a link which opens a PDF as _SELF.
(4) If the user:
(a) exits out of website #1 by closing the brower
(b) we would like to automatically close the PDF from website #2 also, as this contains sensitive information and most of the time the users are forgetting to close it

When you see a PDF link in Safari, click on it. It will preview in Safari. Then click the Share icon, and choose Open With, then select Adobe Reader.

Can you open the Preview program without loading a file, like by itself?
If it doesn't load then I suspect a corrupt Preview preference file.
Deleting the System Preference or other .plist file
Can you open other files with Preview, like jpg's and images?
How about other PDFs? or is it just that one you have downloaded?

How to I stop the Preview Pane in Windows 7 retaining control when I open a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat (Reader is NOT installed)

I have the preview pane active when selecting PDF Documents. When I open a PDF document I am unable to save any changes. the error message I receive:
"The documents could not be saved. The file ma be read-only,or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name of in a different folder"
The document is not read only and no other user has it open. If I turn the preview pane OFF there is no problem saving changes. I have also un-installed Adobe Reader.
Other programs (such as Excel, Word) do not experience the same problems as the PDF documents.
Does anyone have a solution?

It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help

Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Opening a pdf file automatically opens last 13 pdf files viewed

I use Adobe Acrobat a lot and for some reason, I opened a pdf document yesterday and the last 13 files I viewed automatically opened. I rebooted my computer and it still does the same thing.
Does anyone know how to switch off this automation?
Appreciate anyone's feedback.

Do a Get Info on one of the PDF files - select the file (click it once), then press Command-I (Get Info in the File menu).
In the Get Info window, about half-way down is an item "Open with:" - set the pulldown menu in that section to "Preview".
If you want to make that change to all PDFs, then click the "Change All..." button.

Error opening a pdf document in ie7

I have installed adobe reader. the OS is windows 7. When I open any PDF document using Internet Explorer 7, It stops with the message of Ruc time error. Message also shows there is error in c:\programfiles(x86)]internet explorer\iexplore.exe. When i select the link of PDF document for save as, the file types do not show pdf option.

Doesn't it automatically save as a .pdf file? That's what I get using IE9.

Opening a PDF document on a CD with Autorun

I can open my PDF document using a simple autorun.inf command as follows:

But, the path only works on my computer. If I insert the CD into another computer and the drive name is different it obviously does not work. I have tried using a relative path like this:

OPEN=\documentname.pdf
But that did not seem to work.
Question:
Is there a character limit to the length of the PDF file name I'm trying to open? Or, is my attempt to create a relative path name wrong?
I want to send the CD to someone and have it open automatically to the PDF (there are about a dozen other PDF documents on the CD that the main one links to). So, I want to make it easy for them to go right to the main one.

Ususally I open a pdf document in Preview (or Skim or Acrobat Reader), then drag the page(s) I want from the Thumbnails on the side on to the Numbers sheet., You can also choose a single page pdf from the menu item "Insert > Choose..."

Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.

When I try to open Adobe Acrobat XI Pro it just freezes, it also freezes when opening a PDF document. What can be done to resolve this or troubleshoot this?

Adobe Acrobat Pro XI is having some issues. When just the base program opens it freezes before I can even do anything with preferences. The same thing happens when I open a PDF document from anywhere. I have cleared the %temp% directory and repair installed the program with no success in finding a resolution to this issue. I have removed Adobe AIR as a thread indicated that this program could be the cause of some issues. I even restarted the print spooler as that was mentioned in a different post on Adobe Support Forums.

I would suggest rebooting (particularly if you have not) and log in as the administrator. Also, it sounds like you can open Acrobat, but then it locks up when you try to do the preferences. So in that case go to Help>Repair and apply that. Then repeat the process with Help>Updates to get current. See if that resolves the issues. Since you mentioned %temp%, I assume you are on a windows machine, but which one?
