Opening .sfk files in FCP

Is there a way to open .sfk files in FCP 7.0.1?

.sfk files are the visual image of WAV files created by Sony Vegas and Sound Forge. .sfk files contain no audio data, just the visual representation of the waveforms.
You could use Vegas or Sound Forge to open the file, then take a screen shot, then import the screen shot into your FCP project.

Can't open MOV files in FCP: "Searching for movie data in file..."

I know this has been posted before, but none of them seem to match up to what I'm all of a sudden dealing with. I have 4 MOV files that I'm converting to WMV. Movie 1 & 2 exported fine. Now, however, any time I try to open another MOV file, I get an error that it's "Searching for movie data in file..." and the file name is ALWAYS the same. The weird thing is, the file it's looking for is none of the 4 movies I'm working with. So how did the first two work and this pop out of nowhere??
I have cleared out the render cache. Dumped all the cache and prefs files I can find, etc. Restarted the machine. Started FCP with the Option key held down.
I've searched everywhere, but people usually seem to come across this error while opening FCP (I'm running 6.0.6). This only happens when I open a MOV file (oddly, I can open WMV files in FCP without issue).
HELP!

So, I open the movies in QT and the EXACT same thing is happening. So it appears the guy who created the videos did something when he was making them (probably made a reference files along the way). I'm having him re-export the MOV files.
So, it's not a FCP issue.....

Can I Open AVI Files in FCP

Simple question. I have 8 *.AVI video files* that I need to edit in FCP. Is it possible to open/import these files *into FCP timeline*, if not what else will I need to accomplish this task..

What happens when you try?
AVI is nothing more than a container for audio/video streams. What really matters is the codec that was used to make the streams - not the container.
FWIW, it is usually better to convert non-native files to a native format prior to importing them into an FCP project.

Created a project in Motion, cannot open the file in FCP

I posted this on the FCP forum as well. Would appreciate any help.
Hello. My first time trying to create something with Motion. I created the text animation and then when I go to import a file into FCP I get an error message: File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. Any idea why this is happening? I thought I did everything like the tutorial said.

Make sure your frame rate is 29.97...

Receiving General Error when opening Project file in FCP 5.04

Hi to everyone.
I would need a little help. We have 4 Macs running (two G5 and two Laptops). All running with FCP Pro 5.04.
When I create a project on my G5 and open it with my laptop everything runs fine. When I make some edits/renders and save the project and try to open it again, I receive a General Error message.
But on the other two machines the file opens. I have used FCP rescue, trashed also manually the prefs, deleted on the G5 the Render files, made a PRAM zap, used Disk Utility, cleared the Wavecache etc. but no result. The Mediafiles are stored on a LACIE 500 GB. I do work this way since years and never had this before.
Does anybody have an idea ?Thanks in advance.

at first thanks for the replies. I tried already the New User account. It's not working and also the Lacie is fine. The problem is more complicating, I guess.
Basically it's funny that the problem starts, when I have already worked in the project. When I set up the project (load picture and sound files all standard formats, Uncompressed picture and Aiff sound) and save the project, it opens simply, when I work in the project, edit, render etc (pluggins are on both machines identicall) and save (after deleting the render files), my machine is the only one who gives General Error.
Funny is that I used FCP since years in the same setup (Desktop-laptop) and never had this. I already trashed even the trash -:)
So I guess that this problem is a really special one, perfect for all Mac Sherlocks to solve -:)
So if anyone has an idea....

Open event files soundtrack pro

I don't know if this is part of the software or another glitch on my end, but i had a soundtrack that I created for my movie and I imported into my event, cut everything together, then discovered I had an error in my audio so I opened it in soundtrack pro to do a quick adjust and when I came back to final cut x it is red with the caution symbol and says it can't find it. I did not change the name I just altered the files contence. Does this mean any time you open a file that FCP has in an event in another program it breaks the link with FCP.

Opening downloaded video in FCP

If I were to download a TV show from the itunes music store, could I open the file in FCP? I don't know if maybe the file is encoded a certain way so that FCP couldn't open it. I have a bidirectional converter with s-video and I want to send the video out to my TV (not sure what the quality will be like).
Has anyone tried this?

No. There is security encoding that prevents this video from being converted to anything. It will play back in quicktime, on itunes or on a video iPod. That's it.

Loss of Audio when opening Motion project in FCP

I have a 2 minute video I put together in Motion. When I then open the file with FCP the video looks great but the audio is not exported. When I save the file I state to save both audio and video. Any suggestions?

Open and work on FCP project file located at xsan volume

It is recommended by apple to *open and work on FCP project file located at xsan volume*
or we should open , work and save our FCP project file from local drive only .
Is there is risk of corrupting xsan volume if we open FCP project file placed in xsan volume .

Opening a file twice is a indeed a problem. To prevent this, and for numerous other reasons, we use Open Directory. In OD you can configure that a user can login just once (concurrently).
In old versions of xsan it was not recommended to put project files on xsan, but nowadays it works fine.
Putting projectfiles on a san has the advantage that a user can work on any client. If this is not important in your environment these files can be stored locally.

How to open fcp 6 files in fcp x?

Am suresh and am new to fcp x. Previously i worked all my projects in fcp 6, now i want to change it in fcp x. I try to open the fcp 6 files in fcp x but there is no option to open that older version file in fcp x. Please help me to solve this. Or is there any conversion tool for convert fcp 6 to fcp x?

YYou need to use FCP 6.0.6 and export an XML file from that application. Then use the 7toX utility to convert the XML into a version that can be imported into FCPX.

I can't open any 60p .mov files in quicktime. Footage was shot on a JVC GY HM150 which is supposed to record in native fcp format. Any ideas how I can open these files successfully?

Get ClipWrap2 and convert to an editable format for your version of FCP5.

Help : can't open fcp studio pro 2 file in fcp express 4.1.

can't open fcp studio pro 2 (fcp)file in fcp express. just installed fcp express 4 hd upgrade. everything works fine but i was given a fcp file of a sequence created on fcp pro studio 2. when try to open it i get an error message that says "this project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of final cut" - i updated all final cut express software. help!!

That's correct. FCP projects cannot be opened in FCE.

DV25/100 MOV file opens in QT but FCP says its invalid. Who can help me find out why?

We have created DV25 and DV100 MOV files which open perfectly fine in Quicktime, MPEG stream clip and VLC. 29.97 framerate and correct resolution. Yes when I drag into FCP it says its an unknown or invalid file.
When we drag in other DV25 and DV100 files that FCP has generated during export they work fine in both QT and FCP. We have compared media info using various applications and can find no difference.
Who can help us find out exactly what is wrong with the file that FCP wont accept it?
