Opening signed PDF's is slow + generates high CPU usage

Dear,
I'm using the latest version 11.0.06.  Normal PDF's open quick.  PDF's signed with a signature take about 5 seconds to open, a big difference.  I'm running Windows 8.1 but the issue is the same on Windows 7 SP1 (fully patched systems).  When the PDF is opening, the CPU spikes to 30 or 50%.  Since I'm administering some virtual PC's also (with less performant virtual CPU's then physical CPU's), the PDF's take even 8 seconds to open in this environment.  The environment is quite optimized with settings like disabling update checks,...
Some things I tried :
- Disable antivirus (no difference)
- Disable messages when I launch / Don't show messages while viewing (in General preferences)
- Disable check signatures / signature revocation
- Disable protected mode at startup
Another test I did is installing foxit reader.  This PDF reader opens the signed PDF's as quick a normal PDF's and evening quicker then Adobe reader is opening normal PDF's.
Any advice on further troubleshooting steps ?  I would prefer to stay using Adobe reader instead of migrating to another software.
Best regards / thanks in advance for your help,
Wim

Hi Deepak,
Thanks for your feedback.  Both on Windows 7 and 8.1, this value doesn't exist.  This also describes another issue but it was worth trying anyway.
You can test on your own system by using this example pdf : http://blogs.adobe.com/security/SampleSignedPDFDocument.pdf
Best regards,
Wim

  • Slow youtube, high CPU usage

Hey. My girlfriend has a 2-year-old Toshiba Satellite C670D-10C. It's been somewhat slow from the start but it really started to bug me a couple of months ago. I did the obvious virus-checks and spyware-checks with numerous programs and came up with nada. I uninstalled all the unneccessary programs and disabled the quite a many programs on startup.
The cpu-usage goes nuts whenever I start opera or firefox. Now it's 100% for example. Also the memory usage is around 60 %. I can't understand what's behind this. This thing hasn't got much ram (3 g), but it still shouldn't run this bad. It's been to a store, where they really didn't do much to it and asked for 100 euros. Said that it's just intrisically slow.
Now when I look at the processes tab, I see firefox hogging almost 600 000 kt and a svchost-process, that's taking 91 000 kt. This laptop has never been fast, but it got a lot worse about half a year ago. Shoud I reboot the system?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

From looking at the specs, this system is running the AMD E-240.  From my work on C655D's, I have dealt with several E-300 and E-350's.  The E-300 is sluggish enough, and benchmarks much higher than the E-240.
The systems with these AMD processors need to run with minimal programs running in the background.  I am currently fixing up a C655D-S5518, which has the E-300.  I use a program like CCleaner or Glary Utilities, to disable startup items and processes, to help improve system performance.  Here's a list of items that I disable from startup on these systems(you may or may not have these):
    - anything Adobe
    - anything Java
    - anything Apple
    - bulletin board
    - service station
    - reeltime
    - applace
    - book place
I also get rid of anything like "weatherbug", news tickers, etc.
This helps the system start up faster, and run smoother.  Just to test, I upgraded one E-300 system from a HDD to SSD.  The performance improvement was decent, but the processor would still max out at times, causing lag.

  • Slow computer -- High CPU usage

OK here's the specs of my computer:
    G4 933Mhz, 1.5Gb Ram 80Gb internal HD, but booting from a 250Gb external firewire
Now the problem. My CPU usage in Activity monitor gets close to 100% system usage after a few hours even if I don't have more than a couple of programs running. I do notice that pmTool and Kernel_task are eating up the majority of the CPU cycles though. When I boot from the internal it happens as well, but to a much lesser extent.
I did an archive and install of the 10.4 on the firewire and the problem still exists. Current system is 10.4.8.
Any ideas how to stop this? It appears that this problem started about a month ago and the only piece of software that's been updated since then has been Skype and Second Life.
    Eric

I have been looking at applications that might be eating up the processor and the only one that's doing it is the System right now. Restarting seems to help. I've been running for a couple of hours since the last restart and my current stats are 16% User and about 20%-60% System. pmTool seems to be the hog at the moment at 22.5% Kernel_task is only at about 6% though.
Any more information you'd like that could help to diagnose the problem let me know and I'll provide it. here's the current console log if that might help:

  • Since 10.4.6 Update: "ATSServer" with high CPU-usage when opening PDFs

Since I've updated to 10.4.6 my system is very slow when I open PDFs (in "Preview" or "Acrobat").
This is caused by the process "ATSServer" which goes through every file in "~/Library/Fonts" (I have over 4.800 files there - but just a view are activated by "FontBook") and so it takes very high CPU-usage.
I didn't have this problem bevore the update and I didn't make any changes on my font settings.
I've cleaned the font cache, but it doesn't help.
    Any ideas?
    Ciao
    Mephizo
    PS: Excuse my poor English.
    PowerBook G4 17'' 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    PowerBook G4 17'' 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I haven't noticed any change myself, Dan, but I have the 2 GHz model.
One thing I HAVE noticed though after OS updates is that they can often result in a fair amount of file and free space fragmentation immediately after installation. OSX's routines will deal with fragmentation of small files , but not of large ones (over 20 Meg), and it won't deal very effectively with free space fragmentation. If your HD is getting full this can cause significant slowdowns, especially where video is involved.
You should also run DiskUtility and check for any directory and permissions issues.
    Cheers

  • Skype 4.2.0.11 has abnormally high CPU usage while...

Skype 4.2.0.11 has abnormally high CPU usage while idle.
I can't get my laptop under 70 degrees celsius unless I cpulimit or quit skype, and cpulimiting it actually makes it completely unresponsive, as if some other thread is constantly generating a lot of work and taking priority over the UI thread.
What the heck is skype doing? (And why do any of its threads need nice -10?) It takes up more CPU time than pulseaudio, truecrypt, and deluged combined.
Its CPU usage is constantly between 5 and 50 percent*, it's absolutely horrible.
*While idle. I'm unable to make calls.
I know this is expected from a linux user, but for all I know, Skype is malware. It's not open-source, so I can't find out for myself, and there are no open-source alternatives so the frankly shameful amount of bugs I encounter in Skype will never be fixed.
There are several bugs I'd love to be fixed in Skype, but first, PLEASE, optimize your code. It's absolutely horriffic at the moment.

Attached are statistics from my desktop over approximately a 24 hour period for the processes shown (other than firefox and adb).
Pulseaudio tops skype this time but that's because I've had music playing through mpd for a few hours. Skype uses more than 16 times the CPU that pidgin does, and almost double the RAM! RAM isn't shown in the screenshot but take my word for it. Bear in mind that I haven't taken (or made) any calls in this period of time, and pidgin has been signed into three different services and using encrypted chat.
I really wish that at least the protocol would be documented so someone could work around this, at the moment I don't think the guys writing skype realize just how unstable the linux port is. At least it's better than the Android port.
[Edit for those unfamiliar with linux processes: "TIME" is the cumulative time that the program has been scheduled for on any core, effectively making it a measure of total CPU usage for a given time period]

  • Config Manager Agent - after Hardware Inventory High CPU Usage with WMIPRSVE and very fast empty Battery

    Hi there,
since a few days there is on some machines (40-60) a high cpu usage on one core (quad core cpu machines) with the WMIPRSVE.EXE if the HARDWARE INVENTORY CYCLE started.
i try out some tests, read some forum articles and troubleshooting the WMI management but a real problem i doesn´t see.
in some articles i read that hardware inventory runs about minutes up to more hours but some machines runs longer, someone more as 1 day.
here an example of mine PC:
at 8:07 i started Hardware Inventory Cycle, in the InventoryAgent.log i can see that some Collection Namespace are captured.
after a few minutes there stopped and does nothing round about 5.9 hours or better, after 21436.097 Seconds.
For any hints i am grateful. :)

Looks like something in one or both of those wmi queries.  it goes from 8:10:03 to 14:06:43 right around there.  6 hours to do that...

  • Unusually High CPU usage by almost all programs

I have a BIG problem with my computer. It start over a week ago and ever since, I've been trying to fix it. The problem is that almost all programs I use takes up 100% of my CPU usage. The only thing that doesn't are window's program but they also take up a lot of CPU usage. It is not the usual 1-3 sec of high CPU usage that all programs use. It is high CPU usage for a long period of time. A Youtube video causes my CPU to go to 100% just by playing it. Also, scans, surfing the web and other things cause it to go up. My computer runs really slow because of this. It is about 2-3 times slower. This is strange because my computer would rarely ever go over 60% for longer than 5 seconds. The memory amount taken up from my programs are not unusual. Its just that CPU part is way to high. I am un-able to play a game and open a web browser without massive lag on both programs. I have done everything I can. I did a restore for a day before this happened and it didn't work. I scanned for viruses with McAfee Microsoft essentials and Ad-ware antivirus and removed all threats. I have clean my computer with CCleaner and Advanced system care. I have scanned for spyware with spybot S&D, Superantispyware. I have checked for malware with Malewarebytes. But the problem is not solved. I really need the help. If you want me to download something to scan my computer I'm up for it because currently, I'm desperate.
Another thing. I have an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU. But, in msconfig, I cannot select 4 processors in advance options in the boot section. I only shows 1 for some reason. I could really use the help.
    These are my specs
    HP Pavilion a6554f Desktop PC
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.40Ghz
    5.00 GB of RAM
Motherboard is PEGATRON CORPORATION Benicia 1.01
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 5.22 03/28/2008
I have windows vista 64-bit Home Premium

    Hi,
In the Advanced Boot Option of the System Configuration window, if there is a tick in the box next to 'Number of Processors', click the box to remove it, click OK, click Apply and then OK in the previous window and then restart the PC for the change to take effect.

  • Mixer window can cause high CPU usage, crashes

This is probably one of the weirdest bugs I've seen for a while. Here are the steps that I reproduce it for me, maybe someone will want to try this out and see if they get the same.
    1) Open an Empty Project template.
    2) Create 16 instrument tracks when it gives you the dialog. (even 1 will be enough, but the effect is clearer the more tracks you create)
    3) Open the mixer. Either in a window or in the pane.
    4) Now create a "multi-timbral" instrument track with the plus button (use the checkbox there).
    5) Select the 16th track, and now select one of the arrange tracks of the multi-timbral instrument.
    6) Open up Activity Monitor from your Utilities folder in Finder and see how much Logic is taking up CPU. It should be significantly higher than the idle state. On my MBP it'll be around 80%.
This is not a problem in itself, because when reproducing it like this the high CPU usage goes away when you select another track and won't return if you select the multi-timbral instrument again.
However, I have sessions where this will continue happening with a multi-timbral instrument all the time. Not only that, I've had Logic crash when this starts happening. And this whole thing will slow down the UI considerably when it's active.
The workaround that seems to work for me is simply not keeping the mixer window/pane open.

This is one of the issue which has already been raised to Microsoft and hopefully a public build will be available soon  in next cumulative update pack .
There are variety of reason for this starting for password mismatch or password not given , SFTP adapter unable to connect and so on .
There is good post here in below link for this issue
    http://thoughtsofmarcus.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/leaving-password-blank-in-biztalk-2013.html
Another greate artcicle is by Nino which states these issues .SFTP adapter is  protocol  sensitive and some configuration by server side, can cause a lot of crazy situations

  • High CPU usage when editing large MXML files

I am using Flash Builder 4.5 Plug-in on OSX. When I have a large MXML file open, Eclipse will consume 100% of the CPU as long as that file is open, even if I am not doing anything. If I close that editor the CPU usage goes back down. I've seen this in Flash Builder standalone as well as the plugin. Is there a workaround to stop this CPU usage problem?
    Thanks

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.

  • Settingsynchost.exe high Cpu usage

    Hello Everybody,
So lets get to the point.I clean installed Windows 10 Tech Preview Build 9841 x64 on my Hp pavilion g4 1303-au laptop
    Specs of my laptop :
Amd a4-3330mx Radeon HD 6480g Microprocessor
    6 GB DDR3 Ram 1333 Mhz
    500 GB HDD
what i found problematic in this build (ie.,build 9841) was that when i first boot my laptop after clean install,i opened my task manager and found that Settingsynchost.exe was using 25-35% of cpu without doing anything. My fan was throttling so fast than
normal.I was really so pissed off with that so i retrieved back to my old win8.1 pro x64.So can anyone tell me how to fix this Settingsynchost.exe bug from tech preview because i want to see more aspects of window 10 and give my utmost regards for it.
    Thank You
    Sincerely,
    Aman Srivastava

We have found that the information bubbles that open up in the top right hand corner of pdf documents can consume a lot of CPU, when visible for a user on our RDS servers Acrobat Reader would consume anything between 14-25% of CPU resource. This turned out to be very easy to resolve - first you can simply close the info bubble as the user, this setting is then retained for the next time any pdf documents are open. However this was not a suitable fix for the several hundred users that we have regularly connected to our various RDS farms. Instead we added the following registry settings to each users profile via our logon scripts - these disable the info bubbles and therefore prevent the high CPU usage.
    KEY = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral
    DWORD = bReaderShouldShowInfoBubble
    VALUE = 0
    DWORD = bReaderShowEPDFToolsPaneInfoBubble
    VALUE = 0
I hope that this information helps other users with similar High CPU issues when running Acrobat Reader.

  • SBS 2011 - High CPU usage - Help me Microsoft forums! You're my only hope!

My company supports a client that has a SBS 2011 server.  For about the past year, we've been fighting a recurring issue with performance on this server.  There are about ten local users and four remote users.  The server's CPU idles at
about 60%-80% but is usally running when under *any* load from 80%-100%.  If you do anything on the console, it will stay pretty much at 100%.  These are not power users by any means.  The server is utilized for file/printer sharing, Exchange
2010, and one flat file database application (non-SQL).  SharePoint is not utilized.
Needless to say, our client is frustrated.  When opening files, using their database application, or doing anything Exchange-related, there is a large amount of lag on the client side.  First, here are the server's specs:
    Make:Dell PowerEdge T420
    OS: SBS 2011 Standard SP1
    CPU: 2 - Intel Xeon E5-2407
    Memory: 32GB
    RAID: RAID 1 - Operating System (C:)/Data Volume (E:) | RAID 5 - Data Volume (D:)
Here is what we have tried to resolve this to finality:
    * Doubled resources - Initially the server had a single physical processor and 16GB of memory.  While these specs alone should have been fine, and were fine when the server was installed, we had periods of time where the server would just sit all day at
100% usage.  We doubled the resources and while this seemed like it would fix the issue, we are still seeing abnormally high processor usage.
    * Removed all monitoring tools, antivirus, and backup software - As part of our testing, we removed our monitoring agent (LabTech) and antivirus (GFI Vipre).  Mozy is utilized for an off-site backup so that was disabled.  No dice.
    * Verified updates - We made absolutely sure the server was 100% patched.
    * Malware/Virus/Rootkit checks - We have ran scans checking for any potential issues with security.
    * Ran MBSA and MBCA to fix any issues with the server's configuration.
There is no single process which is using all of the CPU, or we would simply be able to narrow it down.  Our calls to Microsoft support have yielded no answers.  The last call ended with Microsoft stating that a SBS server should always be running
at high CPU usage.  Meanwhile, we have many other clients with less-beefy servers, with more users, who have no issues like these.
So, I'm turning to you all.  I will gladly provide logs, configuration settings, even remote assistance sessions if you all can help shed some light on what might be causing my issues.
    Thank you!

    Some comments/ideas:
How long was the server running after this screenshot?  I ask because store.exe is only got a 1GB of RAM which is really low - it should grab most of the RAM within a few hours.
The server was up for about 12 hours.  I believe an adjustment was made before to limit the Exchange memory usage.
Strange that SearchIndexer (wsearch service) is so high although that may be a startup condition.
The LT* processes seem to be a 3rd party monitoring tool - no idea why it would ever need that much CPU though (I thought you disabled this?).
We had, but we cannot go forever without monitoring our client's server.  It has been pulled off in the past and results on performance are pretty much the same.
The taskmgr process run by amnet_admin has used a lot of total CPU Time.  What is it? (can't see the command line).
That's the user I was logged in as when I took the screenshot.  Even the task manager seems to eat up the CPU.
The sqlserver process right above it is also busy - may want to look at the command line and figure out which SQL database that is (SBS has 3 - WSUS, Sharepoint, and SBS monitoring)
I believe that's the SharePoint database.  They don't currently use their site.  Would you recommend a removal and reinstallation?  I would not completely remove as I know SBS doesn't like you removing parts of the complete package.
Strange that vds.exe is 10% - that is the interface to the disk management interface IIRC.  Perhaps your monitoring service has gone awry here - definitely lose it.
I'll see about pulling it off and I'll see if there are any improvements.

  • High CPU usage when graphics card is put at work

I have a 13inch Air with 2GB RAM and 256GB  with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. All possible updates have been installed.
I noticed some tearing when trying to move program windows across the screen so I started checking the CPU usage. I saw that it is spiking to 25-35% when moving a window across the screen. When you drag down a window you can see the different copies of the top bar across the screen. Not smooth at all like on a standard PC windows system. Same issue when scrolling through webpages which spikes the cpu
I also noticed a high cpu usage when playing mkv files 25-30% while on an Atom HTPC i get a lower load playing the same file. The Air should be faster than an atom with a nvidia 9400m when playing video files.
I already tried updating the nvidia files to the latest version on their site by hacking the driver inf but this did not resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced the same or know what could be causing the beavior?
    Many thanks

Maybe my initial post was not clear so let me add some clarifications.
I have the problem with Aero disabled
I have the problem on the Apple site which does not have any flash content.
I have already hacked the lastest nvidia drivers to get them on my system which did not change anything. Can you provide a link to some other 'supported' beta drivers?
I am using the new 13 inch air so it has the newer graphics card so I would expect it to be faster than an old HTPC with a 9400m in it. I wasn't stating that my Air had a 9400m.
It would be great if someone you also do the test to check the cpu load:
    - when playing a 720 mkv
    - when dragging a window across the screen
Just open task manager and see if the CPU spikes.
    Many thanks!

  • High CPU Usage on Terminalserver (Win2k3)

    Hi,
at the moment we are running an Exchange 2010 SP3 in combination with Outlook 2010 (Ver. 14.0.6123.5001 32bit).
Outlook is installed on Windows 7 fat clients, but most users access their mailbox with Outlook running on a Win2k3 Terminalserver (extended support till 2016).
While the users on the fat clients don't have any problems, the thin client users experience problems with high cpu usage.
    Following example:
Terminalserver, 12 users, 6 running Outlook, 2 users splitting almost the whole cpu between them (usage around 90-100%).
This makes working on that terminalserver nearly impossible.
I tried safe mode, I tried disabling their add-ins, I tried deleting their terminalserver profile to no avail.
How can I figure out what's causing this?

    Hi,
Anti Virus email scanners are known to cause similar behavior, please first check if you have any Anti Virus scanner integrated with Outlook. Try to disable it, and check result.
A corrupted data file might also cause this kind of issue, try to repair your data file with Scanpst.exe tool.
Please refer to this article on how to use scanpst.exe:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx
Please also have a look at this thread, try the workarounds in it and see if issue persists:

  • High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

    Hi,
Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
    clients connected to the database.
Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
    Thanks.
