Opening/storing Visio and MS Project Files

We are using Teeming for a small team shared across two sites. They want to store and use Vision and MS Project files.
Using standard MS Office documents seems to work fine, access via Teeming works as expected.
When opening Visio or Project files, they have to 'download' the file first, make changes and resave the document back up into Teeming. Not so smooth.
Is this a restriction of Teeming? Can we get this to work as other Office docs?
Teeming is V2.0 on SLES.

Visio and MS Project error

I am evaluating LiveCycle ES Version 8.01 for document conversion to PDF. I am only interested in the PDF Generator product of the LiveCycle suite. I need to convert MS office documents including Visio diagrams and MS Project files. I have Visio and Project installed on my server. When I try to convert a Visio document to .pdf I get the following error:
ALC-PDG-1023-000: com.adobe.livecycle.generatepdf.client.ConversionException: ALC-PDG-001-023-An error occurred while launching Microsoft Visio. Please check whether Microsoft Visio is installed on the server."
Visio is definitely installed. In desparation I put the path to the .exe in the PATH environment variable and created a Visio_PATH variable. Still no luck.
My second problem is converting MS Project files. When I try these files I get the following error: Reason of failure is-----Invocation error.
Invocation error.
ALC-PDG-010-015-The conversion operation timed out before it could be completed. Please report this error to the system administrator.
ALC-DSC-003-000: com.adobe.idp.dsc.DSCInvocationException: Invocation error.
In doing some straw grasping research, I changed the Initial Heap Size and the Max Heap Size to 0. Any suggestions for either of these issues?

I have a microsoft Project file that I'm trying to print to a PDF. MS Project is version 2003 w sp3. I have Adobe Acrobat v 7 installed also. The problem arises when the pdf is created in ARCH D size (36x24 size).
When the pdf doc is displayed, fonts are missing on the upper right side of the doc (timeline display), and the right side or the end of the gantt display bars. The same fonts appear throughout the rest of the document. What's a planner to do to solve this problem?

I have tried 'Open with' and the version of the program now installed on my computer isn't even suggested as an option and when I browse for it, the file wont open with it anyway

On Windows (don't know about Mac), the latest version will always take over the file association, and become the default for indd files. It's impossible to change it.
But there is a plugin for ID that makes this possible. Never tried it myself.

AFAIK, this is beyond the capabilities of FCPX/Compressor. This company makes a plug-in, which I have to say I have no experience with. Here is a thread that may give you some other ideas. Good luck.

Oracle recommends SAME - Stripe And Mirror Everything.
In the RAC Starter Kit documentation, they specifically recommend not using RAID5 for things like voting disk and so on.
SAN vendors otoh claims that their RAID5 implementations are as fast as RAID10. They do have these massive memory caches...
But I would rather err on the safer side. I usually insist on RAID10 - and for those databases that I do not have a vested interest in (other than as a DBA), and owners, developers and management accept RAID5, I put the lead pipe away and do not insist on having it my way. :-)

Can TestStand open, read, write and close binary files?

From a TestStand sequence, I need to open, read, write and close binary files. Does TestStand support this capability?

In the past I have used the C/C++ Adapter to call directly into the CVI RTE functions. The CVI functions I have used are OpenFile, WriteFile and CloseFile. The functions are exported from the DLL as CVI_OpenFile, CVI_WriteFile, and CVI_CloseFile. I just had to make sure that on termination of the sequence, that the integer handle was properly released by calling the close function.
If you are using LabVIEW, you could call directly into the low level VIs to do a similar set of operations.

Has anyone heard of RoboHelp HTML v10 "magically" deleting itself and all project files?

We have an off-site contractor that swears RoboHelp HTML "magically" deleted itself and all project files. I've never heard of this and wondered if anyone else had. It sounds kinda fishy to me, but I've seen some strange things from RH, so thought I'd ask around first.

No, no source control in play that I know of. It appears we have gotten few answers to questions. The problems began when it was reported that they could not copy the project files to a flash drive. I personally have never had an issue with this task. Then, it was reported that the project had gotten deleted by RH. The resolution after-the-fact is that the contractor spent 1+/- week recreating the project (60-70 topics) from the published content.
I'm surprised that as a contractor they didn't know to come here and ask questions or find tools available to reverse engineer from the published content, but I suppose not everyone knows of the goldmine that lives here. I'd never heard of an uninstall removing project files, but I know there are a million ways it could have been configured and never say never, right?

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

Can you open a Final Cut Pro project file (6.0.6) in Final Cut Express (v4)

I am working on a project in Final Cut Pro (v 6.0.6) and I need to pass it off to a colleague who only has Final Cut Express (v 4). The media in the project is DVNTSC.
I went to the Apple store at the Stonestown Mall in San Francisco today and they assured me that my colleague would be able to open my FCP project file in his FCE program... but I'm skeptical.
Can you really open a FCP project file in FCE?
Could somebody who has both confirm this for me?

Under very rare circumstances can you open an FCP project in FCE. It almost never works and is not supported by Apple.

Can Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 open Adobe Premiere Elements 9 project files?

I am trying to edit a video in Premiere Elements 9 but I would like to open the final project file in Premiere Pro to export because of the better options available. Will Premere Pro be able to open the project file?

WBS Modeler for MS Visio and MS Project

I am trying to get WBS Modeler to work with MS Project 2010 and MS Visio 2010. It appears I am missing the adodb.dll from the installation. How do I correct this matter?
In short, the WBS modeler Tab does not show up in MS Visio top ribbon. Visio displays the WBS modeler Add-In but as a folder but once I select the create button, I do not have the opportunity to select it as an option at the top of the ribbon.
Files(x86)/Visio Add-In for WBS Modeler/adodb.dll did not succeed.

Before you install “WBS Modeler add-in for Visio 2010”, these system requirements should be met:
1.Visio Professional 2010 or Visio Premium 2010,
2.Microsoft Office Project 2003 Service Pack (SP) 1 or later
3.Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.

Then you need to enable the WBS Modeler add-in.
1.Start Visio, and click File > Option > Add-in.
2.On the Add-Ins tab click on the Go button at the bottom to manage the list of COM Add-ins.
3.In the list of installed COM Add-ins check ‘WBSModeller.Connect’ and click on the OK button.
Note: If you get an error after you click the OK button you may need to reinstall the WBS Modeler add-in. Based on the installation options you may need administrator rights on the machine.
4. Close Visio and restart Visio.

Unable to open PC-backed up FCP project files

Apparently, I made a mistake copying my FCP project files to my PC via network and backing them up on CD-ROM.
When I copy them back to the MAC, they wont open!
I performed an "Apple-I" on one of the files and selected open with FCP, but it doesn't!
I did a quick test:
I copied one of my existing project files to PC, renamed it and copied it back to the MAC. The icon of the one copied back changed to "Unix Exec". But when I compared the two files contents, they're the same!
Is there some obscure way to allow my PC-backed up project files to work again?

What you need to do is give back the Mac OS resource data to the file (that's what got stripped when it went through the PC environment) ... or more specifically, you're reassigning a Type and Creator code.
Use a utility such as "Type Changer" (it's freeware): http://www.marcrespass.com/software/Type%20Changer.zip
the Type for a project file should be "FCPF" and the Creator "KeyG" (short for "Key Grip" which was the original name for FCP)

PP crashed and now project file is blank despite autosave being active.

I recently downloaded Premier Pro CC and love it so have got round to editing some footage I took over the summer.
I am a few hours into editing a project when PP crashed, I dragged the 'warp stabilizer' effect onto a short clip (4 seconds) and the windows loading cursor popped up, then it said 'not responding' on the window title bar. It stayed like that for about an hour so I closed PP by clicking the 'X' and then clicking 'close program' when the dialogue box popped up.
Now when I go to open my project file up it just opens a completely blank project. Autosave was active and it popped up many times while editing this project, most recently about 10 minutes before PP crashed.
Any idea why the autosave doesn't seem to have worked? Do I have to do anything special to access a separate autosave file or something?

Sorry for being a complete dunce, I have just done a quick google and found out how to access the autosave files and I have now got the project back minus the last 10 minutes of work.

Not opening pdf, word and spreadsheet file

I'm not able to open pdf, word or spreadsheet file that are saved on my media card. It's say "unable to open file..."
I'm using a bb curve 8900, what apps can I download to solve this?

I have Microsoft Office 2008. I am able to open them and create new files. It just seems to have trouble when opening the links from my school's website.
When I click the link it pulls up another window that has this message: "There has been a problem with the page you are accessing. You may return to what you were doing by clicking the back button. If the problem persists, please contact the helpdesk." When I download the link it pulls up the same window.
When saving the link/file? to my desktop and then trying to open a pdf with adobe, this message appears: "Adobe Reader could not open 'Skin Lecture Spring 2011.pdf.html' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
For a powerpoint, the first message is:“Acid Base foundations.ppt.html” is a web application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" So, I select open, and the second message is "PowerPoint cannot read Acid Base foundations.ppt.html."
For a document, the message is the same as the powerpoint's: “HERBALS AND DRUG INTERACTIONS.doc.html” is a web application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" So, I select open, but for Word it opens a document that has the same exact message box that opens when I select the link from the website.
