Opening webpages offline
On my iMac, Safari 3.0.4; on my MacBook, Safari 3.1.1
Safari used to do it. Firefox, Opera, Netscape all do it. I create a webpage in TextWrangler, save as .php, and before sending online, test it by opening it in my browsers. As I said, Safari used to do it. But no more. Two weird things happen. Either Safari shows that the files are grayed out, or Safari goes ahead and opens the files, but in source code (displays only html).
Firefox, Opera, Netscape all have no problem to open the same files as webpages.
My G4 recently crashed, so I downloaded the website files (using Fetch) onto my MacBook and iMac. But in case someone supposes that the ftp download somehow or other screwed up the files, I have to say that just now I created a new file (using TextWrangler as always), and the same thing happens with it.
What has happened to my Safari browsers?
I agree. Try the web archive.
Try Version Tracker or Mac Update
Might be a third party utility that can do a better job. Just make sure it's compatible with your current Mac OS X and Safari version.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

I am connected to wifi, but can't open webpages or collect mail. I have tried to reconnect; to forget the network, all those things that should hepl. My phone and my computer recognize the network, the ipad doesn't. I mean I am connected and have a full scala of connection bows, but nothing happens.
You iPad recognizes the wifi signal, but is not connected.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

JEditorpane (opening webpage keeps stucked all GUI untill all page loaded)
hi everyone,
i've a riched GUI application, and in that i've used JEditorpane to open webpages in it.
i've realized many times, that whenever a website is opened in JEDitorpane all my application gui get stucked, it keeps stucked untill all webpage with its all images not loaded.
there is also no way to get progress of loading the all webpage as in and web browser.
can any one plz help me that website loads smoothly and don't stuck other gui components, so that user can work on other components while the website is being loaded in JEDitorpane??

Preference to have Safari launch with previously open webpages not showing up
In Mountalin Lion v. 10.8.2, there was supposed to be a preference to have Safari launch with previously open webpages. I have looked multiple times in the preferences for Safari and can't find this setting.

If you do 'close windows when quitting an application', then allowing Safari to reopen its windows is a useful option. If you don't 'close windows when quitting an application', then Safari windows should reopen automatically anyway on launch so you don't need the extra preference setting. -
i am not able to open webpage on safari it says 'the error is cannot decode raw data(NSURLError:-1015) so please advice
Post a link to the page, if possible. Otherwise try opening the page in another browser, such as Firefox.

You have 2 options:
1. Create an URL iview and on evaluation of the condition in WD fire a portal navigation to this iview. This would also mean that the URL needs to be static.

I am unable to open webpages with my N95 device. When I go to the webbrowser, it does nothing. When I try top open a file (e.g. a message attachment) of .HTML type I get the message "Unable to open files of this type".

When you use the menu to "restore factory settings", you are doing a "soft reset". There is also the option of a "hard reset".
What you do is to backup all your personal data and settings from the phone (make sure you have the latest version of PC Suite). Then you enter the "hard/deep reset" code (which reformats the c: drive and rewrites clean default files). Then you restore your personal data and settings using PC Suite.

Only firefox can't open webpage.
All of the other browsers in my laptop can open webpages correctly, but my firefox 4.0 beta 7 has problem. I have tried disable IPv6 and so on, it all doesn't work. I have reinstalled as well. Can someone help me with this? BTW, I use firefox for Aptana for javascript troubleshooting.

Hi, i recently bought a new computer and installed firefox on it, but sometimes when opening webpages such as reddit, or facebook, it only loads part of the page or very little of it.
If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Ghostery</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

My Mac is having trouble opening webpages all of a sudden it will take over 5mins to do. I checked my router with my laptop and it is working fine. It opens the apple page fast. Does any one have any suggestions.
If you are using Safari ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that didn''t help, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
If that didn't help, might be corrupted Safari preferences (.plist)
Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
And try troubleshooting Safari unsupported plugins. From the menu bar click Safari > Preferences > Security
Deselect: Enable plug-ins. Quit then relaunch Safari. If that made a difference, follow the instructions here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues -

I have been using Firefox for a while, and recently noticed this new feature that is causing problems. Firefox is saving my open webpages after closing suddenly, and then when restarted tries to open the same webpages. Huge problem: If it's a site with a virus it goes right back to that site. Huge problem for me- viruses must love this feature. I just want my regular homepages to open if Firebox closes suddenly. Help.
This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js .
Session restore works more reliable if you choose Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
