Opening website folder in iweb

I had a problem with OS-X so my iweb does not know my files I worked on before it froze. Back up again and fortunately I did save the website folder and it looks like everything is there. How do I get iweb to open this folder with all the files back up so that I can begin working on them again?

iWeb never had this ability to start with.
If you publish from iWeb to a folder on your desktop, then you might notice that when you open the files they do not open in iWeb, but in Safari.
When you update a page you are going to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites file and clicking there and updating from there and then publishing to a folder or to MMe. You cannot update pages that have already been published, at least not in iWeb.
You need to understand that iWeb is not an html editor and that is why it can't import anything. It has code written into the software whereby the html code is created on publishing and not before.
Your files in the Sites folder have already been published to your desktop, so you are not updating them at all. When you click on them to open them, they will be opened in Safari or Firefox or whatever you choose to use.

I am trying to edit my website which, was composed on iweb about 2 years ago. I have the website stored on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't figure out how to load the website into iweb for editing purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You need to migrate to a modern, supported webpage development application and leave iWeb behind.  It hasn't been supported for 2 years now and was behind the curve feature wise when it was dropped by Apple.
One app that many have migrated to because it is very similar to iWeb in the GUI and features is Everweb.  It has a demo version that you can try.  Text and photos from you current published site can be copied and pasted into Everweb to help the migration over.
There are other possible candidates.  Just search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement" to get a list of topics discussing them.

You need the Domain.sites2 file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder in order to be able to manage and publish the site from another computer?
Do you have that file? If you do copy it to the same folder on the other computer and you're ready to go.
If not then you'll have to recreate the site from scratch.  Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site. 1

  • Open website on Iweb

    Hello,
I've created a website on Iweb a couple of years ago. I've been uploading it normaly on my domain. My computer crashed a couple of week ago and now, I can't manage to open my site in Iweb (version 2.0.4). I have all the files and the folder with the site, but I don't know how to open it again in the Iweb application (I tried to drag-and-dropp it in the application but it doesn't work).
Could someone help me please ?
    Thx a lot

That's because you can't - iWeb has no import facility so it cannot import an already published site - html as you have found.
Unfortunately, a published site is not a backup - it is the domain.sites file that you want and this can be found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
Did you backup your domain file or anything via Time Machine - if so, you can get anything back, but if not, then you are looking at re-creating your site from scratch.

  • How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?

How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?
    Hi
I've set up my website using iWeb 08, always keeping the latest version in iWeb and backing it up in a folder on my HD.
Yesterday I got rid of the current design iWeb and tried to upload the back-up folder into the iWeb application. No success.
How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb? Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the discussions. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Presumably you've been prudently making backups of your Mac's internal HD, so search there for the Domain file's invisible extension:
    .sites2
If you can't find your old Domain file, paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Can't open website in 3.0.4

My computer crashed but I've got all my files. But the website won't show up in iWeb. I need to update a couple of things and I am finding very negative information online. How can iWeb not let you open a multi-page site that is in the same place/folder?
I need help now. I don't want to rebuild it in iWeb for this very reason, if it happens again.

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Colors of the pages in the website listing in iweb 09

When I open iweb 09 and look at the list of the pages in the website folder, some of the pages are red in color while the rest are blue. What does it mean when the pages are listed in red?
    Thanks,
    Mary

It means that you have made changes to these pages. When you publish your website, by selecting File/Publish Site Changes, these page names will turn blue.

  • Where is my 'website folder'?

Just created my first site in iWeb and in an effort to get my site to load quicker I have downloaded 'Webcrusher'.
It is asking me to drag my website folder to a window.
    Where can I find this?
    thanks
    Pete

Open Transmit and click on Favorites in the right hand pane. Then select "+" at the bottom of the right hand pane to bring up a new favorite. There you'll enter the following information:
1 - change Untitled favorite to whatever you want. I use Web/Sites as that's the folder on the iDisk.
    2 - Protocol = WebDAV
    3 - Server = idisk.me.com
    4 - User Name = your username
    5 - Password = your password
    6 - Port = 80
    7 - Remote Path = /your username/Web/Sites/your Web Site's folder
8 - Local Path = the file path to your web site folder which you're publishing locally.
Then save. You can set that favorite to open when you open Transit. Then all you need to do is click on the Sync button at the top and set the rules for uploading. Click on the right arrow to upload files. Set the Modification Date as the criteria for uploading. I'd also check the Delete orphaned destination files so you don't leave unneeded files on your iDisk.
Or your can sort by date and upload those files with today's date.

  • How import folder into iweb

As I posted, my iweb project is missing - it is no longer listed in the index when I open the program.
I have the site saved in a desktop folder - how do I import the folder into iweb so i can load the porject again?
    Thanks,
    Diana.

Occasionally iWeb will open and you won't be able to see anything in it, not the websites you've built nor any of the menu items.  If you're experiencing that try the following:
    1 - open iPhoto.
    2 - select a couple of photos.
3 - use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photo Page menu.
It might take a couple of tries.
    Happy New Year

  • How do i transfer my website created on iWeb to another computer (also a macboook pro)

how do I transfer a website created on iweb from one macbook pro to another

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Once you get the domain.sites file copied from your old Mac to the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your new Mac follow this:
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Website deleted on iWeb

Hi I hope someone can help!
I created a website on iWeb and saved it as an extra folder on my computer.
Just now I installed a new template and when I opened iWeb again, my website was not there anymore.
How can I get it back?
Can one open the saved folder in iWeb??
Thanks for any help! It would be a disaster, if I would have to create the whole website new again!

Welcome to the discussions. No — only iWeb's key Domain file can be opened in iWeb. Your sites should still be on your Mac — use Spotlight to search for the Domain file's usually hidden file extension:
    .sites2
Or restore the Domain file from your backup — either Time Machine or...

That's what making backups is intended to avoid.

If the previous Safari suggestion doesn't work try the following:
In Finder, go to Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins and move AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin to the Disabled Plug-ins Folder.  Restart Safari.  If this works you may just want to delete that FUBAR plug-in.
Thanks.  This was the solution for me.

  • How do I load a website folder onto the ipad of offline use?

I have a website that I want to load onto the ipad for viewing without interntet.  I have the entire 1000+ page site and images on my laptop's desktop and I can view it there. How do I put it on the iPad and use it there?
    Thnaks for the help.

I have been doing  some research on this matter and thought I would share the result of my experiences - the overall aim is to have multi-page websites locally viewable on my iPad with navigation using normal hyperlinks
There are numerous suggestions on the web many of which diod not give me what I wanted - my solutions below work for me but may not suit everyone
    Case 1 - downloading website from a web-accessible location
I use the iPad app Offline Pages to capture websites - this app works well for this style of website - remember to set the download links to download all that you require - "Intelligent" is good
In theory you can use the app to download websites from the desktop but I haven't been able to get that working routinely
Case 2 - multi-page website on desktop that DOES NOT use relative addressing
You need to process all the links so that it contains well behaved relative addressing
For this I use the Mac app WebCopier which gives good results - this requires that the website is accessible via the web but that can be local to your desktop (see below)
Once I have a processed website then I proceed as below
Case 3 - multi-page website on desktop that DOES  use relative addressing
Firstly make sure that you have installed the Offline Pages Bookmarklet in your desktop browser (use the gearwheel settings icon top right in Offline Pages)
Secondly, turn on websharing in the desktop's System Prefs>Sharing panel - this gives me an address for the computer's website and a link "Open Computer Website Folder..." - use this link to navigate to this location on your desktp computer and now move the source (processed if required) website until it is in the computer's website folder structure
Thirdly, select the starting point of the source website (usually an index.html file) and click on the Save to Offline Pages Bookmarklet
Lastly, go to the iPad and wait until the inbox is updated (the inbox at top left shows a number and spinning wheel while it is downloading) - if only 1 page is downloaded by Offline Pages then display that page and click the Page Info icon (square with tick at top right) - change Download Links to "Intelligent" or whatever you require and then click  "Update Now" - this should then report the number of pages that are in the downloaded website.
    Enjoy !!
