OpenJDK7 and Oracle JVM7 side by side

I am pretty much at a loss here.
I need both openjdk, though I'm not confident that it has to be openjdk7. Still, best to go with the newer versions I think. In any case I absolutely need and up to date version oj Oracles JVM. Not by choice mind you.
At first I thought it would be somewhat easy to find it. I mean distributions like Ubuntu handle it rather well I think, but just replacing one version with another should prove a challenge. I actually had to uninstall LibreOffice.
Well, that shows what I know I suppose.
The point of it all is that I'm pretty sure I've found a solution to this exact problem as some point, though I did not need it at the time, but now I can't seem to find it again. The wiki states that it cannot be done, but since it can be done in other distributions, I find it hard to believe that.

I have it installed alongside opendjdk. You just need to manage correctly your $JAVA_HOME.

If I use the "standard" oracle thin client driver from classes_12.zip ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@kn7:1521:kn7a") every thing is working fine. But if I use the oracle server side jdbc driver ("jdbc:default:connection:") I get the exception java.sql.SQLException:
Datasize larger then max. datasize for this type: oracle.jdbc.kprb.KprbDBStatement@50f4f46c
even if the string s exceeds a length of 32767 bytes.
I'm afraid it has something to do with the 32K limitation in PL/SQL but in fact we do not use any PL/SQL code in this case.
What can we do? Using LOB's is not an option because we have client software written in 3rd party 4gl language that is unable to handle LOB's.
Any idea would be appreciated.

How to install XE and specify the SID (instead of XE) during install

I would like to use Oracle 10g Express Edition for development purposes but I already have an existing project that requires a specific SID.
I tried following some instructions on asktom.oracle.com on changing the SID but it was disastrous and did not work.
Ultimately I have to rip XE off and reinstall everything because it was so mucked up.
I would like to reinstall XE but during install specify the SID just like I can with Oracle 10g R2 Enterprise Edition.
Can someone please tell me how to do this, and Oracle if you are listening, can you modify XE so that the SID can be specified on install? This one thing is a deal breaker for me and am considering falling back and using postgresql for the initial release of this product instead of Oracle to clients. I am sure many of them would upgrade to Oracle Enterprise edition if I were able to release a product based on XE first.

At the time of installation , you can't change SID XE.
After installation, you can add another service name

hi all, i have the following question :
a) I am using windows XP professional and oracle 9.0.1 enterprise edition. Under the windows environment, how do i set the environment variable of the oracle SID ?
In UNIX (SUN SOLARIS), the oracle_sid can be set using following setting in the command prompt.
ORACLE_SID=MYDB
EXPORT ORACLE_SID.
I really dunno how to set it in the windows environment.
Somebody pls help.
b) Currently i have 2 database in the same host inside the windows XP OS. I created the 1st database using database configuration assistant so everything is working fine. But later i tried to create a 2nd database manually which is using the database creation script.
The creation process was successful. Later i try to startup the 2nd newly created database using startup command, but it seems that oracle try to start the 1st database instead.
My question is does oracle automatically create an new instance for me when i created a new database manually ?
c) How do i check how many instance (active and idle) do i have currently in my system under windows XP environment ?

Actually where can i set the environmental path of the oracle SID in Winxp OS ? After i type set ORACLE_SID=myDB
then do i need to export/restart PC ? In UNIX, just type
EXPORT ORACLE_SID it will take effect. But i not sure whether typing set ORACLE_SID=myDB will take effect immediately in WINXP dos prompt.

What happens when you try to use the clone stamp tool?
It should work with the images side by side.
You can setup photoshop cc to be like photoshop cs2 was on your other mac, by going to Photoshop>Preferences>Interface and unchecking
Open Documents as Tabs and Enable Floating Document Window Docking
And also going to Window and unchecking Application Frame

I Nearly bought from Amazon too but I found a thread from Adobe stating that the only recognized outlet for lightoom is themselves and other outlets serial numbers will not be guaranteed.

Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

My 17-inch early 2011 macbook pro keeps freezing on me. The freeze usually occurs when I'm importing or exporting pictures, when I stream anything, or If I am watching a dvd. The left side of the screen shifts to the right and the right side of the screen shifts to the left. lines also appear on my screen and I can not force quit any open application. I have not dropped my laptop at all.

If you don't have the Applecare extended warranty then you will need to pay for the fix. The fix is a New Logic Board. It seems as your Graphics card is failing in some way. No there is no software fix for this.
The Graphic chip is soldered to the logic board and the only way to change/fix it is to replace the complete logic board.

I have requirement where in i have a HR report and as per the requirement the users want to see in the BEx 3.5 report to show the currency and amount field side by side
example: I need to show 6 key figure(Amount) and their original currency side by side in the report as below
2009 Bonus Currency 2009 incentive Curr 2009 Salary curr
1,000 GBP 1,000 USD 1,000 INR
We have created a formula for the mentioned 3 key figures with NODIM to replace the currency. But we could not able to achieve by bringing the currency side by side

Normally ther should be a another field should be there along with amount some currency either dco currency ,loc currency those fileds are assigend to the info object like 0currency
we can go with structure at columns level u bring one as amount bouns(RKF may be) besides that u keep currency then another RKF and currency like that u can keep an d try to see the data at report level.

Found the Solution to my problem. Just had to put cursor on the corners of the open window and "stretch" the window to the left, to the right, then up only to the point of the screen where the "Menu" is still visible. This solved the problem I had. Thanks.

Javaws, classpath, and OpenOffice client-side resources

I've developed an application on top of OpenOffice which uses the installed openoffice jars and .dll's. I can't get the dll's to load using javaws. My root problem seems to be a non-standard way that openoffice is trying to load system libraries - from the OpenOffice forums, they use the location of a jar and then "go up one directory". My app works fine when I can provide control over the classpath (for example, from a batch file, ant, or eclipse) but I am stuck trying to webstart. The OpenOffice community has no answers.
I've tried a huge number of permutations of things, based on advice from this forum:
-- jar'ing up the installation jars and deploying them (works for the OpenOffice java classes, but not for the DLL loads)
-- creating a custom class loader (again, works to load the java classes but not the DLL's)
-- jar'ing up the installation DLL's and deploying them (doesn't have any effect)
-- setting the system classpath in my code to the known client-side location of the installation (doesn't work - get NoClassDefFoundError)

I've solved this issue.
I had to create a shell application, launched via jnlp. The shell app grabs the webstart cached jar files, builds a classpath string with all these jars and the client-side OpenOffice installation location, and launches the real application, i.e.
