i couldn't find any documentation on installing it
i'm not looking to do any development i just want the cde that it provides, it appears to be very similiar to hp's cde which i'm used to using.

Most newer X11 window managers support the --replace+ option. This allows you to replace the existing window manager with another one.
For example, if you want to take a look at unity (the new preferred GUI for Ubuntu) and you have KDE or Gnome loaded (and Unity installed), then use the shell command +unity --replace+. Or for some real eye candy, +compiz --replace+ for Compiz.
An easy way to test GUIs without impacting your existing X11 setup and config, is to use VNC.
Start vncserver in your o/s account. It will create a +$HOME/.vnc+ directory with a xstart (or is it <i>xstartup</i>?) file. You can edit that file and configure different X11 window managers to be used for the virtual desktop inside the VNC server session. Kill the existing session using vncserver -kill :1, mod the xstart file and restart a new server session. Connect to it using vncviewer, give it a whirl, and repeat the process to try a new window manager.

  • Openmotif error during 10g install.

    I am trying to install a Oracle 10g database on top of a RHEL 3 operating system. The operating system is fully patched. I think that may be the problem, but would like some verification on that. The openmotif version listed is openmotif-2.2.3-3.RHEL3. Install is looking for openmotif-2.2.2-16. It, of course, fails. I assume I must somehow rollback to the previous openmotif version or is there a newer download of 10g that will work with my current version of openmotif? Another machine has 10g installed on it, but I know it was installed before the most recent openmotif version was installed. It is still working even with the new openmotif. Thanks for any help. I went to the Red Hat Network site and looked at openmotif packages available and it does not list the 2.2.2-16 version as available.

    I have exactly the same problem under Windows XP. There seems to be a bug that looks very simular to the error we have, and there is a patch for it (bug 3555863), but the patch does not work, because you need to execute clscfg again during the patch execution, but clscfg craches whenever I try to execute it.
    So, I do not know a workaround yet. Did you find out anything in the meantime?

  • [new] openMotif

    Sorry, someone in my office was going to replace Arch with Red Hat to get motif, so I had to make this PKBUILD for openMotif.
    It does brake the convention as it has an upper case character in the package name butr I did that to get the package to download.
    It does seem to work, as in I installed it and ran a couple of demo programs, though help could not be found.
    Here is the simple package build if any one wants to test it:
    #PKBUILD by Benedict White of CSE mostly an edited version of the lesstif PKGBUILD
    pkgname=openMotif
    pkgver=2.2.3
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Open Motif"
    depends=('x-server')
    conflicts=(lesstif)
    source=(http://www.motifzone.com/$pkgname/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
    md5sums=('94c96a0f94ee0d5e41d3dba2188b263d')
    build() {
      cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
      ./configure --prefix=/usr
      make || return 1
      make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
      # clean-up
      rm -rf $startdir/pkg/usr/LessTif
      rm -f $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/X11/mwm/README
      # conflicts with Shell from perl
      rm -f $startdir/pkg/usr/man/man3/Shell.3
      # conflicts with tcl
      rm -f $startdir/pkg/usr/man/man3/Object.3

    Sorry, the source line is wrong, I just munged it together offline to get it to build with a pre downloaded package.
    It should read:
    source=(ftp://ftp.ics.com/pub/Products/Motif/om2.2.3/src/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
    Which makes the PKBUILD look like this:
    #PKBUILD by Benedict White of CSE mostly an edited version of the lesstif PKGBUILD
    pkgname=openMotif
    pkgver=2.2.3
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Open Motif"

    conflicts=(lesstif)

  • Make openmotif the standard Motif library

    Hello world!
    I would like to suggest to replace lesstif by openmotif.
    Openmotif is now under LGPL and (unlike lesstif) _alive_.
    Furthermore lesstif programs are broken under Gnome3/mutter.
    Problem:
        * Run any program using lesstif under Gnome3/mutter (e.g. DDD)
        * Click "File"
        * Click "Edit"
        * Result: "File" menu will not close and "Edit" menu items are displayed at
                  the wrong place.
        * Programs using openmotif having proper menu behaviour
    I successfully built and tested the current Arch packages of DDD, xpdf & nedit
    by using openmotif 2.3.4 from community (other pkgs were not tested).
    Currently the following packages require lesstif:
        ddd, fbida, freewrl, grace, nedit, vtk, xlockmore, xpdf
    Any chance the switch might happen?

  • Install openmotif and X11 on imac 11,2?

    I have a 3D software package (NX) that I cannot use because it requires the installation of openmotif and x11.
    I have a standard imac 11,2 which has X11.
    But I can't find or figure out where to get openmotif. Does anybody know anything about this program?

    Try:
    http://www.winteracter.com/macmotif.htm
    I've not tried it myself.

  • FreeWRL: lesstif - openmotif conflict

    I need to install a simple software to view x3d files. FreeWRL fits my needs.
    The problem is that one of its dependencies (lesstif) conflicts with openmotif which I can't remove because I need for other applications.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you!

    Try pulling the xpdf PKGBUILD from ABS and building it with openmotif. It should be as simple as installing openmotif and replacing 'lesstif' with 'openmotif' in the xpdf depends.

  • Where to download openmotif for oracle enterprise linux?

    Hello,
    I am in the process of installing OEM Grid 10204 on Linux 2.6.18-128.el5 on Oracle Enterprise Linux. I am checking the packages required for installation and I need openmotif21-2.1.30-11. Where can I download openmotif21-2.1.30-11 and its dependencies from Oracle website? Can I download this package from another non-oracle website? Thank you in advance.

    If you have Oracle Enterprise Linux media CD you can mount it, find the RPMs directory and install
    rpm -Uvh openmotif21-2.1.30-9.RHEL3.6.i386.rpm
    or you can download the RPM for RHEL from internet, that should works too.

    Domain Name System (DNS) Resolver Parameters
    Two Domain Name System (DNS) resolver parameters (timeout and attempts) are set by default to low values when the operating system is installed. These low values may cause attempted network connections to an Oracle database to fail. If this happens, add or update the following entries to these minimum settings in the /etc/resolv.conf file on each server node:
    options attempts:5
    options timeout:15
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.0 and 4.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 and 9
    Verifying Host Names
    Use the following to verify host name settings:
    For Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.4 and 4.0:
    Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
    <ip_address> <node_name>.<domain_name>
    Verify that the /etc/sysconfig/network file is formatted as follows:
    HOSTNAME=<node_name>.<domain_name>
    If the /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/network file exists, remove it.
    If you changed any files in the previous steps, restart the system.
    Modifying the Number of Open File Descriptors
    Open the /etc/security/limits.conf file and change the existing values for "hard" and "soft" parameters as follows. Restart the system after making changes.
    For Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.0, 4.0, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9:
    hard nofile 65535
    soft nofile 4096
    Modifying Port Range Values
    Open the /etc/sysctl.conf file and change the value of net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range as follows. Restart the system after making changes.
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 10000 65000
    Please note that this range is a recommended range, and may need to be adjusted according to the specific needs of the user's environment in order to avoid port conflicts.
    Setting the Environment
    Verify that the host name setting is correct. The command should return a fully qualified host name. For example: <host_name>.<domain_name>.
    # hostname
    For the hugemem kernel, install rpm setarch-1.0-2 or higher. (For up, smp, and boot kernels, omit this step.) This step is not required for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.
    # setarch i386
    Completing Preinstallation Tasks
    Complete these tasks after you set the environment variables and before you begin the installation steps described in Installing Oracle Applications.
    Unset the NLS_LANG environment variable, if it is defined prior to installation.
    Apply one of these OS library patches: 4198954 (for Red Hat 4.0) or 3006854 (for Red Hat 3.0). You can download these patches from OracleMetaLink.
    Restart your system.
    groupadd dba
    useradd -g dba appltest
    useradd -g dba oratest
    Completing Postinstallation Tasks
    After the installation is complete, perform the following tasks in addition to the ones described in Installing Oracle Applications:
    Apply patch 4632932 to all the application tiers, then re-source the applications environment file to refresh the environment variables. This patch is required for setting the values for LD_ASSUME_KERNEL and LD_PRELOAD.
    Should be missing kernel parameters and some other utilities like ar,make,gcc etc
    Thanks,
    SM

    Hi,
    Please can someone help me to get the Patch 4198954. Why don't you download it from MOS website? I believe no one is supposed to download the patch from MOS and send it to you by email as this violates Oracle support agreement policy.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

    Subsequent to your reply, I found that Openmotif is not available in Fedora, so we thought Oracle linux is best in terms of compatibility. But looks like it is not that easy to install EBS R12 on Oracle Linux also. Anyway, we installed EBS R12 on OEL-5 64 bit. Able to run forms after installing openmotif 21. Applied RUP 2. The patch application is failing to link some executables. (specifically FEMCCE, and all the executables in MSC product, MSCCPP. etc...)

    Much thanks to Oracle Support ( Rajesh Ghosh, Vikas Soolapani and Roger Ford), as this simply wouldn't have been possible without them.
    There are a few things in this document that may not be pertinent to your environment if you're doing this. I've made attempts to clarify those possibly optional sections in the documentation.
    I've broken the document down into the following multiple parts
    o Setting up a new RedHat 4.8 x86 server called ausSEARCHdev (The server is in AUStin, TX, is dedicated to SEARCH, and is for our DEV environment)
    o SES (Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.2 install
    o SES 10.1.8.4 patchset install

    we're going to go with the standalone OC4j 10.1.3.3 and Oracle ADF 10.1.3.3 method
    The URLs for these products are
    http://blogs.oracle.com/ebssearch/2009/10/available_now_oracle_search_modeler_11_for_oracle_e-business_suite_11i.html
    and specifically
    OC4J - http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/oc4j/101330/oc4j_extended_101330.zip
    ADF - http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/htdocs/adfinstaller10133.html
    OC4J install
    First you need to have Java 1.5 on the machine. Latest is 1.5.0_22. Package is in /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES
    as root on aussearchdev
    cd /usr/local
    cp /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/jdk-1_5_0_22-linux-i586.bin .
    chmod 700 jdk-1_5_0_22-linux-i586.bin
    ./jdk-1_5_0_22-linux-i586.bin
    yes
    install OC4J just by copying over the directory
    as oracle on aussearchdev
    mkdir -p /d01/oracle/oc4j
    cd /d01/oracle/oc4j
    cp -r /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/oc4j/* .
    ADF install
    vi /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/adf/adfinstaller.properties
    change the following
    OracleHome = /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/adf
    DesHome = /d01/oracle/oc4j/
    type = OC4J
    as root
    cd /usr/bin
    rm java
    (yes)
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.5.0_22/bin/java
    su - oracle
    java -version     should now return 1.5.0_22
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/jdk1.5.0_22
    cd /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/adf
    java -jar runinstaller.jar -version
    returns The version for the ADF libraries being installed is 10.1.3.41.57 - yes, that is apparently 10.1.3.3.
    java -jar runinstaller.jar adfinstaller.properties
    output looks good, do not be concerned by

    Below are all the steps I took for creating integrating Search Modeler with an Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10.2 ATG RUP 7 instance called ERNIE.
    I've broken the document down into the following multiple parts
    o Setting up a new RedHat 4.8 x86 server called ausSEARCHdev (The server is in AUStin, TX, is dedicated to SEARCH, and is for our DEV environment)
    o SES (Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.2 install
    o SES 10.1.8.4 patchset install
    o SES CPU patch apply
    o Standalone OC4J and ADF installation
    o Search Modeler installation and configuration
    o Configure ERNIE Apps instance to be on valid self-signed SSL certificate
    o Import ERNIE SSL certificate into SES and Search Modeler
    using aussearchdev initially
    rh4 x86, default oracle build
    ** htop and collectl are open source free performance monitoring packages we utilize**

    XXXXXXX:/esxpress/nfs /mnt/rpms nfs rw,addr=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX 0 0

    Next need to install various oracle needed RPMs.

    we're going to go with the standalone OC4j 10.1.3.3 and Oracle ADF 10.1.3.3 method
    The URLs for these products are
    http://blogs.oracle.com/ebssearch/2009/10/available_now_oracle_search_modeler_11_for_oracle_e-business_suite_11i.html
    and specifically
    OC4J - http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/oc4j/101330/oc4j_extended_101330.zip
    ADF - http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/htdocs/adfinstaller10133.html
    OC4J install
    First you need to have Java 1.5 on the machine. Latest is 1.5.0_22. Package is in /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES
    as root on aussearchdev
    cd /usr/local
    cp /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/jdk-1_5_0_22-linux-i586.bin .
    chmod 700 jdk-1_5_0_22-linux-i586.bin
    ./jdk-1_5_0_22-linux-i586.bin
    yes
    install OC4J just by copying over the directory
    as oracle on aussearchdev
    mkdir -p /d01/oracle/oc4j
    cd /d01/oracle/oc4j
    cp -r /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/oc4j/* .
    ADF install
    vi /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/adf/adfinstaller.properties
    change the following
    OracleHome = /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/adf
    DesHome = /d01/oracle/oc4j/
    type = OC4J
    as root
    cd /usr/bin
    rm java
    (yes)
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.5.0_22/bin/java
    su - oracle
    java -version     should now return 1.5.0_22
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/jdk1.5.0_22
    cd /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/adf
    java -jar runinstaller.jar -version
    returns The version for the ADF libraries being installed is 10.1.3.41.57 - yes, that is apparently 10.1.3.3.
    java -jar runinstaller.jar adfinstaller.properties
    output looks good, do not be concerned by

    For troubleshooting, if you go to end of /d01/oracle/10.1.8/sesdev/search/data/config/crawler.dat
    you can modify the logLevel from the default of 4 to 2 to get better debug data. No services need to be restarted, it will become active with the next crawl.
    While talking with Oracle, they mentioned the following patches
    The patches identified 8321527 and 7586924 are SES patches to help with indexing
    They also identified patch 9103851 which is an apps patch dealing with responsibilities <-- This is not yet available
    Applying patch 7586924
    as oracle on aussearchdev
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    ./searchctl stopall
    cd /mnt/oraclebackup/deathstar_patches/SES/post_patches/7586924
    opatch apply
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    ./searchctl startall

    cd $ORACLE_HOME/search/data/config/
    cp crawler.dat crawler.dat.backup.03102010
    vi crawler.dat
    We're using the Oracle E-Business Suite R12 crawler, so we will add the line
    USE_IN_MEMORY_QUEUE Oracle E-Business Suite R12

    so the end of the file looks like this:
    # system properies: separated by space for multiple system properties or define multiple SYSTEM_PROPERTIES
    # logLevel values: DEBUG(2), INFO(4), WARN(6), ERROR(8), FATAL(10)
    SYSTEM_PROPERTIES -Doracle.search.logLevel=4 -Doracle.search.log=oracle.search.util.Log4jImpl

  • Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2 Installation Steps

    Although this is by no means exhaustive or the most accurate, all contributions and/or corrections are welcome
    As I attempt to reply the numerous calls and emails I have been getting, firstly sorry guys, I have been settling down at a new job, and haven’t had time to locate my implementation notes, however find below the steps I followed with a successful result.
    Installing Oracle E-Business (EBS) Release 11i (version 11.5.10.2)
    Linux Installation – SLES 9 Rel 1
    •     Please follow these instructions – I could not have written a better set of instructions :
    http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16009.html
    NOTE: Although this is written for SLES 9.1, I believe this will work for any Linux variant.
    Also, make sure you have installed openmotif 2.0 or higher to make sure the forms server starts and remains running
    Windows 2003 Server SP 1
    Environment:
    Windows 2003 Server was installed as an environment on VMWare Server (The free one).
    Hardware Spec:
    P4 800 Mhz CPU
    2GB (Physical RAM) and 1GB (Virtual RAM)
    250 GB (Physical HDD), 120GB (Virtual HDD)
    DVD RW
    DECLARE
    At this point I have to say a few things:
    1.     I have not attempted installing on any other version of Windows, so if you try with another version, I may not be able to answer your questions, although I believe it should not be any different.
    2.     I would believe you can or have access to the internet and can download or find most of the resources needed.
    3.     I would assume you have installed the Windows 2003 Server with SP 1, Internet Explorer and Outlook. Also, have included an IP address, a server name with its domain extensions in the host file.
    4.     I would assume that you have created one group – dba , two users applmgr and oracle and included them in the dba and administrator groups
    5.     I would assume that you are at least familiar with the terms and usage of abbreviations in this sort of environments.
    6.     I would also assume you have reviewed and have made allowance to meet the required specification in terms of hardware (I did not attempt an installation on the USB HDD, so may not be able to help, if this applies to your situation)
    BEGIN
         Prepare Environment
    Download and have read the following software:
    1.     Java Development Kit 1.3 (or higher version)
    http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html
    2.     Active Perl – This is needed for the staging script adautostg.pl http://www.activestate.com/store/productdetail.aspx?prdGuid=81fbce82-6bd5-49bc-a915-08d58c2648ca
    3.      Visual C++ - This is needed for many of the real-time code compilation
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/download/
    4.      CYGWIN
    http://www.cywin.com/setup.exe     (Free open source, never expires!)
    OR
    MKS Toolkit (Evaluation copy, 30 Trial or get a licence for about $500)
    http://www.mkssoftware.com/eval/
    This is necessary for certain unix-only available utilities required to implement/compile Oracle E-business Suite, such as which, make, cc, etc.
    5.     The DVDs or downloaded zipped copy of the entire Oracle E-Business Suite software for Windows 32-Bit ( I did not attempt on a 64-Bit processor, though I believe it should not be different, but see the necessary documentation if that is your situation)
    http://edelivery.oracle.com
    6.     Jinitiator – This is required to run the forms on your system (Although a first attempt to view any of the form interfaces downloads and requests this be installed first) http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/devlic.html?url=http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/developer/htdocs/jinit.htm
    NOTE:
    •     DO NOT Install into the default directories and do not allow spaces in file directories/path when installing the software, somehow experience has shown that the Oracle EBS does not handle spaces in file directories well, and results in untold hardship if ignored. E.g Default installation folder for an software installation may suggest C:\Program Files\ JDK 1.5, MAKE SURE you alter this to something like C:\JDK15. DO THIS FOR ALL SOFTWARE INSTALLED
    •     After each software installation, please reboot the system before installing the next piece.
    •     Make sure that all the paths to the bin folders for all software installed is included in the environment variables, and verify by typing path in the command prompt to display all paths listed
    •     If using CYGWIN (like I did, as I could not afford a software expiring on me nor could afford $500 for a test). You may choose all the modules available, but you do not need all (it will be an overkill to have the entire unix utilities and libraries on your windows box, unless you plan on learning unix commands or into heavy development requiring a unix environment, without wanting a unix machine) MAKE SURE you choose all the library options, all the development options and that should be OK. Then confirm after the installation by typing which, cc (or gcc), make(gnumake), ls, gawk(awk), grep (egrep) (IMPORTANT:Where one of the other in brackets exists, copy and rename the copy as the alternative). As a double sure – copy all of these into C:\Bin directory.
    •     If the Oracle EBS is downloaded, unzip all the files into the folder and ignore any suggestions that it will over-write other files such as the component.label files
    Installation Proper
    •     Run adautostg.pl – which you will find in the StartCD i.e the first file downloaded and unzipped. This will attempt to rearrange the installation files in the order in which the installation wizard – rapidwiz prefers and identifies the folders. (Saves you hand-holding the wizard by having to interact during the installation, pointing it to the relevant folders/files if not run) to create the staging area.
    •     Run Rapidwiz – either by double clicking the rapidwiz.cmd in the startcd folder (this would be the one in the staging area) or from the command prompt
    •     As required, point rapidwiz, to the bin folder of cygwin e.g C:\cygwin\bin (if this is as installed) in the place where it requires the MKS Toolkit
    •     Pre-installation Checks – rapidwiz intelligently tests all the necessary software and requirements before installation starts. A corresponding message to each parameter suggests the opinion of the rapidwiz whilst a green tick indicates the parameter is sufficient, other indicators may need reviewing. Please make sure you resolve each issue before progressing with the installation. This may lead to a waste of time if not resolved.
    •     Choose a single-node installation
    (if just testing or practicing, you may also choose a multi-node if this is what you want.)
    •     If all the modules are not needed (I installed all), you may have to choose which modules you require, and state where you want the modules installed.
    •     Assuming all parameters are passed and installation begins, the different stages of the installation steps can be followed by the on-screen messages or log file reviews (each logfile directory will be displayed on the screen during the installation of each context).
    •     Post Installation Checks – Rapidwiz does some checks after an installation, whether successful or not, and provides a report. When an installation is successful. It confirms and provides the url to login. The default username and password for the system administrator is usually sysadmin / sysadmin. You are encouraged to create another user immediately.
    For all who asked, depending on how far up your hardware scales in terms of specifications, the installation may take about 3 hours (at least mine did) or more.
    Login on to Oracle EBS !
    The URL required for logging on to the OAM (Oracle Application Management - For the Apps DBAs) and OEBS (Oracle E-Business Suite - essentially for the Functional Implemeters/Consultants ) - The entire gamut (They are shown as hyperlinks), should be as follows;
    http://hostname(servername.domainname.com):8000/
    where hostname is the same as specified in your host file e.g servername.domainname.com or .whatever-u-like
    and
    8000 - is the default port, but you may have chosen your own port and that should be used in such a case.
    N.B - The Forms server is often started when an attempt is made to access such an interface after login in to the OEBS. However, in my own case, it did not until I made sure openmotif 2.1 was installed on my SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.1. The windows installation started without any issues.
    If all attempts fails….
    You may have to try and try again by deleting all installation files and starting all the installation steps again. It will help if you know how to edit your registry settings to delete all reference to oracle e-business (not all reference to oracle though, as some odbc-related entries have been installed by Microsoft and require your registry settings to function)
    Alternatively, send me your box, your mailing address and a token (money of course, and I may be able to set it all up for you) – JOKING!
    CAVEAT: I will not be held responsible if anything unsavoury happens to your system in the course of you following the steps I have highlighted above either correctly or incorrectly. However, if you are successful, please sing my praises all over the forum and ask that I be rewarded by Oracle!

    You probably need to install Open Motif (2.1.30), which you can download from:
    http://www.opengroup.org/openmotif
    Be sure to include /usr/X11R6/lib in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PATH.
    You may also need to relink:
    make -f ins_reports60.mk install
    after you install Open Motif.
    Hope this helps.
