Openoffice 2.0 preview in [unstable]

hi
now a little present for x-mas from my side to the arch community:
Openoffice 2.0 packages in different languages:
as usual they are NO source builds!
there are a lot of improvements over 1.1.4 but it is only a PREVIEW version beta is tagged for january and final around march/april
more details you can find here:
http://marketing.openoffice.org/2.0/featureguide.html
and the best thing you can use it parallel to OO 1.1.4
spellchecking packages need some tweaking for it, but we will find a solution for that, if you have one go ahead send it to me
No openoffice2-base package is needed anymore since OO now supports multilanguage installs !
pacman -S openoffice2 (should make all english people make happy)
pacman -S openoffice2-XX (for the rest)
happy x-mas to all of you out there
enjoy OO 2.0
greetings
tpowa

Works for me, mostly. Had a crash, but hey, it's not even a beta yet.
One thing: I can't add a printer, that option is blanked out. Why does Oo.o manage printers itself anyway? Cups could do that...
Another thing: integration into desktop environment. Here, some bits are still missing:
* GTK file chooser is not used.
* Nautilus doesn't recognize the new filetypes yet. Thinks they are *.zip files. Which is true, they are zipped XML's.
* Nice Gnome icons (ore KDE, depending on what you have running). The gnome ones can be seen here: http://www.gnome.org/~michael/impress-1.9.png
I'm not sure whether those issues are building/packaging issues or whether they are promised but just not ready yet from the Oo.o 2.0 side.
Anyway, thanks for the X-Mas gift, tpowa

• Preview - now unstable?

Hi
Since my upgrade, I noticed that, while I can view pictures in Preview (whether pre- or post-upgrade photos), Preview seems to crash a lot.
To name but one occurrence, I was trying to remove the color from one picture (which I could do no problem when still on Tiger), and as soon as I try to do a SAVE AS..., it crashes. Proposing to IGNORE, SEND A REPORT or RELAUNCH.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Thank you =)

• Unable to print in Reader X

I am unable to print in Reader X, also it happened in Reader 9 - perhaps with the (clean) install of Snow Leopard from Leopard. I am also using Neo Office (an OpenOffice for Mac). Neither the Print Icon, nor the Print menu work - it does not bring up the dialog at all in X. In 9xx, it would ACT as though it printed, but fail with a "no pages were selected", even though they were. So, today I uninstalled 9xx & installed X fresh. When it didn't print, I reinstalled it. It still doesn't work.
Any help appreciated. (I can print just fine from other apps. ; main printer right now is networked Xerox Phaser 8560)

For the record, Mac 10.6.5.
PDFs are the problem, I also see no link for a "possible" solution. Every other application can print, including Firefox, Neo (OpenOffice for Mac), Preview, etc.
My workaround has been to close Acrobat Reader, then open the PDF in Preview and print from there.

• Finder: no preview of Impress odp files (OpenOffice, LibreOffice)

When hitting SPACE to preview an Impress file with file ending .odp (OpenDocument Presentation) no preview is shown like for .doc oder .pdf
Impress is the presentation program of OpenOffice / LibreOffice.
Question: Is it possible to add preview functionality for odp manually or is it done by Apple only?
Used version:
LibreOffice 3.3.2
OOO330m19 (Build:202)
tag libreoffice-3.3.2.2

Thanks for pointing me to QuickLook. It looks like LibreOffice installs no QuickLook plugin so far.
But the NeoOffice Team which ported OpenOffice to Aqua environment first, indeed has a plugin called neopeek.
I downloaded the neopeek project from their cvs (http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/build.php) and compiled it for OSX 10.5.
Credentials: :pserver:[email protected]:/cvs
password: anoncvs
The resulting file neopeek.qlgenerator was put in folder/Library/QuickLook according to the Apple documentation over here:
http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/ Quicklook_Programming_Guide/Articles/QLArchitecture.html
It immediately worked with an LibreOffice .odp file.

• Preview window is unstable / stuttering; fading not shown in preview

I want to cut/create a movie with premiere elements 12, even with less movie data the preview window is running unstable and stuttering, with more data it becomes totally difficult.
Fadings currently are not properly shown in preview window.

From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•You MUST use an account with Administrator Privileges to run Premiere Elements
•(Doing Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 [says Encore and also for "All" versions of Premiere] will sometimes fix "odd" errors)
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 12 with the 12.0.1 update).
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac"
•Has this ever worked before? If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.? Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed? How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?
•What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
•What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
•Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
•ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
•nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Bridge CS5 is very unstable when an SWF file is playing back in the Preview panel.
I only have to switch to another window, and Bridge bombs out.
Is this a known issue? Is a fix pending?
Thanks

I'm on XP Pro SP3.

That's a very "Curt" response!

• CS4 crash/unstable when doing mp3 preview

Hi!
I recently have this issue. When i put my like any mp3 file into source preview window and try to find the right spot to crop it or just preview it the file starts to play smoothly but... it doesnt wont to stop! Like premiere stops responding. Sometimes when u try to hit radnom buttons or mouse it will stop. But mostly its Alt+crtl+del.
Using CS4 4.1 , win xp sp3 x32, matrox rtx2 le, geforce 8800gt, asus striker extreme mobo,

As others have said, most MP3's will actually work
However, SOME of them, during the creation process, have information entered into the file (header?) that causes problems... so converting those files to WAV outside Premiere will usually fix the problem
I can not speak from a lot of direct personal experience with MP3's, as I do not often use them, as stated above. However, from experience with others' problems here, some can have issues. A normal thread on them goes like this:
OP - I have four MP3"s and three work fine. Why won't the other one work?
Forum - Convert that one "bad" one to .WAV and try again.
OP - That's just silly. I want them ALL to work.
Forum - Some do and some do not. What happened when you converted that one to .WAV?
OP - I have not. I just want this _______'ing software to work. I paid good $ for it and it's a piece-o______!"
Forum - Please try converting that one MP3 to .WAV and report back.
OP - Hey, it worked...
And so it goes.
As to your comment (John's) on JPEG, I find that PS is very critical of poorly formed JPEG headers. Many of my other programs open them fine, and a Save_As from them usually gets them open in PS. As I do not use JPEG in PrPro any more than I can help, I see few problems with files in that format in PrPro, more often in PS. Still, basically a "conversion" outside of PS usually fixes the issue.
OK, I need to put a few $'s in the kitty in the Lounge, 'cause I went over my limit too.
Hunt
Please Note: the reference to "OP" above has no tie to anyone in this thread. It is a ficticious composite of many threads from the past and none from this discussion.

• Images unstable in preview

Have Aperture version 3.5.1 on Mac Pro version OS X 10.9, various file formats (RAW, Tiff or JPG) .
When using Aperture w/ split screen (Viewer/browser) images jump w/o clicking to change in browser.
When working on image in viewer it suddenly changes to another image; w/o cursor being in or near browser.
Any suggestions or similar occurrences?
Thanks

Sorry hit solved button in error.
Sorry, that cannot be undone. You might want to post your question again in a new dicussion, for with this thread marked as solved, it is not very likely that someone else will look into it.
I have never seen similar happening with a mouse. Does the same happen, when you are browsing a different library? Try to create a new test library, import a few images and see, what will happen, when you are browsing in split view.
If this works well with a new library, try the Aperture Library First AId tools on your main library.
Repair permissions and repair the library: See Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual

• Unstable Installations of Leopard

I've now had two unstable installations of Leopard in less than a month. The first appeared with the 10.5.3 update. I almost immediately had two kernel panics, and subsequently had to rescue my email database.
I have now done a full, new installation on a new drive and moved my document-level data to it. Installed the latest updates. Within a couple of days, I had another kernel panic, and more mail database damage. On a couple of other occasions, the system slowed to a creep without a panic. In the recent instance, clicking on the Apple Menu got about 10 minutes of spinning beachball before it finally opened. It took Mailsmith about 10 minutes to Quit. After clicking on the desktop, it took minutes for the Finder to move to the front.
Below is the Console Log information I found after rebooting. I'm not finding anything useful, but maybe someone else will ...

• PDF file VIEW & PRINT differences: Preview 4.2 & Acrobat 9.3

My original two-page OpenOffice document (.odt file extension) exported to PDF file format (.pdf file extension). I used Acrobat 9.3 to force the document to display both pages as continuous facing - so far, so good. I've found two issues - neither of which appear to be related to OpenOffice. The font used is Arial 10pt and larger (for headings and such).
1) PRINTING: When printing the PDF file from Preview the document size and layout is printed identically when compared to the original ODT file - GOOD! BUT when printing the PDF file from Acrobat 9.3 the margin padding is increased by 0.25 inches on all four sides. YIKES! I was able to fix this problem by getting (i.e., remove the additional padding) by resetting Acrobat's "Page Scaling" option from the default value of "Fit to Printable Area" to "None".
The good news is that saving the file within Acrobat 9.3 with the updated "Page Scaling: None" setting seems to persist - but can I be sure the proper print dimensions are preserved when this PDF file is printed from a Windows platform? Does anyone know why Acrobat increases the margin padding like this?
2) VIEW: I cannot get Preview.app to display the PDF file with continuous facing - only one page at a time is displayed even though View > PDF Display > Two Pages is selected!?! Acrobat 9.3 displays the document correctly with both pages. Any ideas why this may be and how to fix Preview to display both pages upon opening the document?
A minor sub-issue here is that Acrobat 9.3 on Mac OS X seems to use a display font that isn't truly Arial - the display of many characters' line weights are uneven and the document has decidedly Windows-ish look to it. Preview does a much better in displaying the document in true Arial. Fortunately, the true "Arial-ness" of the document in print format is not noticeable once the padding problem was resolved (see above).
I'm mostly concerned about the PRINT variance - I intend to publish/distribute this PDF document (a technical white paper) and many more like it to 1000's of clients but I have no control over which "VIEW" tool they use. Net/net: This unwanted 0.25 inch additional padding really does take away from the visual esthetics of the document - I've shown this variance to several people and we are in 100% agreement on this.
TIA ---

Glad it helped; (for any nit-pickers out there I should have typed 8.2.2, sorry).

• In print preview - how can you have multipage previews of the document - 1 - 2 - 3- 6 - 12 page preview and so on so that you can see if the document is ok to print?

WINXP - In Explorer you can have multi-page print previews from 1, 2, 3, 6 upwards to check and confirm that the document will print correctly to your needs - and does this across the screen format as opposed to down the page, so that you can see all 12 pages on your screen to quickly see that the print percentage is correct and all pages fall into the print area and so on - how can you set this up with Firefox, because printing with Firefox is so unstable, you don't know what to expect when printing a document or web page?

No what I mean is how can you see many pages across the screen without having to scroll like in explorer where you can see 12 or more small pages on your screen without scrolling down, like tiled across your screen as opposed to vertical down the page. Thanks

• Preview issue (native and embedded via Safari) wth cut-paste and nested curly braces

Environment:
OS X 10.6.8
Preview 5.0.3 (504.1)
Updates: current as of 0800 CDT 24 Jul 2011
-- updates issued on 24 Jul 2011 are being applied but the changelog(s) do not mention this issue
Any PDF document containing code fragments which have more than 1 level of curly-brace
Issue:
Pasted text copied from PDF files is produced with lines out of order, line wrap and string breaks
in unexpected locations, and partial lines appended in unexpected ways. This appears to be an
issue with Preview since it can be reproduced by opening appropriate PDF content either in Preview
or Safari with the canonical Preview support for PDF documents.
To Reproduce:
1. Open the PDF with Preview or Safari
2. Position and size the viewing window to avoid any display-pane-induced line wrapping.
2. Drag-select the code block and paste into another document, the following have been tried with identical results:
- OpenOffice (writer) 3.3.0 (OOO330m20 Build 9567)
- Terminal 2.1.2 (273.1) (into a vi session in "insert" mode)
Results:
1. Original end-of-line positions are not preserved.
2. Line-wrap not preserved in original *or* visual aspects.
3. Lines trailing the first closing curly brace for the first curly brace pair at greater than nesting=2 are out of order.
Example:
original text: PDF download of O'Rielly document "JavaScript Cookbook"
origin: downloaded from O'Rielly web site, 2011-07-24@15:49
MD5 (JavaScript_Cookbook.pdf) = 9c6463ac28377bb69230536266369ccb
source lines: page 335, lines 5-30

<svg:svg width="600" height="600">

<svg:rect id="square" width="400" height="400" fill="#ff0000"
x="10" y="10" />
</svg:svg>

Copying this text from PDF form -- either in Preview or in Safari wth Preview doing the heavy lifting -- and pasting into a Terminal window running 'vi' in "insert" mode yields this:

<svg:svg width="600" height="600">

var square = document.getElementById("square");
// onclick event handler, change circle radius square.onclick = function() {
var color = this.getAttribute("fill"); if (color == "#ff0000") {
this.setAttribute("fill","#0000ff"); } else {
this.setAttribute("fill","#ff0000");
<svg:rect id="square" width="400" height="400" fill="#ff0000" x="10" y="10" />
</svg:svg>

NOTE THAT LINE SEQUENCE 3-4-5-6 OF THE PASTED TEXT CORRESPONDS TO LINES 6-21-20-22 OF THE ORIGINAL TEXT.

Shocking.
But best to let Apple know of any issues. We're just users here.

• Memory Leak in Preview.app when switching Display Profiles

I found a weird memory leak in Max OS X Preview.app, which manifests itself when Display profiles (color calbration) is change. I wonder if anyone else can reproduce my experience.
1. Open up "System Preferences" -> "Displays", switch to the "Color" tab. You'll need at least 2 available profiles in the list. (If you only have 1, you can create another using "Calibrate..." button to launch Display Calibration Assistant.
2. Open an image file in Preview.app. The larger, the better. Zoom in full size to maximize the effect of the bug. I repro'ed easily with this image: http://www.donporter.net/NewSchool/Color/Examples/Printer%20Test%20file.jpg
3. Open up "Activity Monitor.app", and click on Preview to highlight it, so you can watch its memory usage.
4. Switch back to "Diplays" Preference Pane. Using the arrow keys, toggle up and down between two different Display profiles.
4a. At the same time, watch Preview's "Real Mem" in Activity Monitor, as well as the total "Active" memory.
5. Each time you switch profiles, Preview consumes more Active/Real memory, about 25MB per switch in my case. This continues until all physical memory is consumed, and then (I presume) starts swapping virtual memory to disk.
6. Bring Preview to foreground, and all the profile-induced memory usage is freed.
Weird, wild stuff.

Could it be possible that this is just the OS holding the memory for the app until another process requires it? Do you find that the memory increase eventually causes the app to become unstable?
It might be best to open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com. When adding the bug, please include any source code, project or installer that will help us reproduce the issue internally. If you'd like to keep your code private, feel free to email it directly to [email protected] Once entered, please post back with the URL so that others effected can add their comments and votes.

• CS3 Image Display Unstable-causes crash

Unable to drag or move large images around Photoshop CS3.
As I open more images the problem increases until at around 4-8 images, PS will crash.
Also, while working on an image, as I add layers and increase the history list, it becomes unstable and may crash. I can't trust it to work thru an image without loosing my work.
If I try to drag the image around, it will completely blank out--I can't see where I'm moving it to.
If I make the image (or images) smaller it DOES help.
The more(or larger) images that are open, the worse it gets until it finally will crash PS CS3.
This does NOT happen on CS2 installed on the same computer. It works fine.
I've tried all of fixes I can find in this forum.
Replaced preference file
Version cure disabled
Font preview disabled
Memory and cache changed up, down and sideways
Latest video drivers
All updates to OS and PS
Uninstalled and re-installed PS
Chants at midnight
XP Pro SP3 (didn't work with SP2 either)
4 gigs ram with dual core processor
Nvida 7900GS 256mb video ram
Wacom with latest drivers
I've been fighting this for months. It's never worked properly.
I'm willing to buy a new video card if someone can verify that they have had this same problem and it's helped. But if it's the video card, why does CS2 work fine?
I can load CS2 up with a dozen large images (RAW 10mb images), move, work, add layers--runs smooth as silk.
Can't help but think there is a bug in CS3.
Any help out there or Adobe techs willing to work with me in resolving this?
Thanks
T.O.

Thanks Dave, but I tried that already.
I think--(give it some time to make sure)--I might have found it.
Even though I had the latest drivers for the Wacom, I think that was the problem.
I removed them. Then installed a version that was 3 or 4 old.
Over the course of the past two days, I've now been able to get as many as 15 files opened, drag them around, paint on them, copy and paste, make layers, etc. and it's still hanging in there.
So the latest and greatest drivers aren't always the answer.
Thanks
T.O.
