Openoffice/Openbox problem?

I'm new to Arch Linux (and linux in general really) but I've gotten along just fine. I installed Openbox and everything was cool until I noticed openoffice did nothing when i clicked on it in the menu. It seems obmenu refuses to save my execute setting for openoffice specifically. Not for anything else though. I checked to make sure i wan't missing anything i needed to run it, and i'm not. I can run it from the terminal just fine. I haven't found anything online regarding this, but it's possible I haven't looked hard enough.
Any explanation? Thanks

You should switch to libreoffice. Arch will not package openoffice in the future.

  • New Gdm + New Openbox = Problems

    just upgraded gnome stuff and openbox (to openbox 3.4.7.2-3).  (so, gdm is v. 2.28.0-1).
    openbox starts, but there is only 1 virtual desktop (even though several are specified in config)
    worse, screensaver does not start and screen will not lock in any case.
    does anyone know how to get at these problems?
    more minor issues:  gnome control center cannot set background -- have to use " eval `cat $HOME/.fehbg` & " in openbox autostart.sh file.
    thanks.

    Yeah, something like that...

  • Tint/ttm + openbox problems please help.

    Hey gang.
    Im trying to use tint as a taskbar for my openbox desktop.
    Im running at 1152 x 864 and have tint set to 18 pixels in width.
    It looks FINE and amazingly nice until i try to maximize a window.
    At that point then the bottom of the window i am maximizing goes UNDER the tint taskbar.
    UGLY AS SIN.
    Is there a way to set a margine or correct this.  Ive noticed some of you use it..
    Any and all help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Xorg and/or Openbox Problem

    Today I have updated my Desktop, Laptop and Media Centre (specs are in my signature) to find out that all three PCs now have a makor problem. The issue is that only a small portion of my Openbox desktop is active, by which I mean the openbox menu can only be activated with a right click in the bottom 1/8 of my screen. This also has the effect that any program that is maximised only fills this active section, and my conky setup which would usually be in the section that is now inactive does not show up.
    I would post a screenshot, however I am not sure how post it.
    Can anyone adivse me how to fix this??
    thanks.

    Turned out to be a problem with the configuration settings which have changed in stalonetray 0.8.

  • SOLVED: Openbox Problem: Messed Up Video

    In my new Arch install, I'm using OpenBox for the WM/DE. It looked fine before, but today when I booted and right-clicked for the menu, it was a mess. You can view the mess by clicking on this link: http://www.drlanelester.com/menuprob.jpg
    After I log on to the terminal, I'm starting X with this command: xinit /usr/bin/openbox-session
    As I understand it, if I use startx to start X, it will read the commands in .xinitrc. I would like that in order to start some other things. This is the .xinitrc I have:
    #!/bin/sh
    exec openbox-session &
    exec tint2 &
    exec /opt/StartStopConky.sh
    But X does not start with startx. Here you can see the output: http://www.drlanelester.com/startxprob.jpg

    your call to your WM should be the last call in .xinitrc. Start all the apps you want first and then at the end call your WM.
    Thanks, that got X started, but messed up video similar to that shown in the top link in this thread.
    I am now going to start a new thread in the Installation forum. I just made a fresh install in a separate partition and cannot get X to start.

  • Mplayer openbox problem.[solved]

    mplayer -rootwin option on openbox  puts mplayer in front of all other windows. why? and is there anyway to make it on the root window. xscreensaver /user/lib/xscreensaver/[screensaver] -root works fine

    No real help here, but I just tested and I get the same result as what you describe in openbox.  It seems to work as expected in my other WMs though.

  • [SOLVED] openbox problem

    hi,
    i have 2 x screens, but cant get openbox on both at the same time! i looked at the faq in the openbox wiki, but it wasn;t much help;
    How do I run Openbox across multiple X screens?
    In order to have Openbox manage multiple X screens (this is not the same as multi-monitor TwinView or Xinerama), you need to run an instance of Openbox directly on each screen. We've put work into making Openbox work well with other instances of itself, for this type of configuration.
    In order to run Openbox on two screens, use commands such as these:
    # run openbox on the second screen (they start from 0)
    DISPLAY=:0.1 openbox
    # by default openbox will run on the first screen (screen number 0)
    exec openbox-session
    i assumed that after reading this, all i need to do is put the following into my ~/.xinitrc
    DISPLAY=:0.0 openbox
    DISPLAY=:0.1 openbox
    or
    DISPLAY=:0.1 openbox
    but neither worked! what have i missed?

    ok, after re-reading all the advice, i think you have all missed the point of what i am trying to achieve!
    fluxbox, kde, gnome & xfce all achieve this 'out of the box', openbox & icewm dont!!
    i am now concentrating on openbox. i currently have my pc looking & running perfectly, but i cant fire up vlc on my tv! I have a gforce 6200 with crt connection going to a 17" crt, & a tv-out going to a 28" tv!!

  • Report generation toolkit with openoffice

    hello all
    i would like to know if it is possible to use the report generation toolkit with openoffice instead microsoft office? because i do not have the toolkit already i can't test it and i will only buy it if this is possible...
    i ask also because i used another application with word export not long ago what was ending with the error message "windows ole server not found". so the question is if something of the microsoft product line is necessary? i am quite sure that the opening of a produced doc would be possible in openoffice without problems - at least i hope so!
    only one thread i found, unfortunately in french : http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=4170&message.id=13060&query.id=139594#M13060
    thanks a lot, mischl

    Another option to consider is to use the report generation VIs that ship with LV and simply output to a PDF document rather than a hardcopy printer.

  • Openoffice + windows share + GNOME/Nautilus

    Hi,
    I'm trying to edit a windows excel file which is located in a windows share.
    I've done this before using Ubuntu's OpenOffice without problems.
    When I'm trying to save the changes into the file (after say yes to the Excel format) I'm getting the following error:
    "Error saving the document name_of_the_doc: General input/output error while accessing to /home/name_of_user/.gvfs/name_of_share/name_of_the_doc.xls"
    I get this twice and a last error which says:
    "Error saving the document name_of_the_doc:
    General Error
    General input/output error."
    The funniest thing is that after all those errors a new file is created in the share with the same names plus a sequential number (one for each try). This file has the same content as the original without the changes.
    I just migrated from Ubuntu and I really like ArchLinux, but with such a problem I can't even work... Any ideas??
    Thank you.
    Derek.

    Windows shares tend to be read only unless you have the ntfs-3g driver installed, and even then you would be better mounting via fstab than via gvfs.  At least that's my experience.
    Hi, thank you for your comment SiC! Well, I mostly agree with you but there are two facts which make me relate this problem to OpenOffice exclusively:
    1.- The rest of programs (i.e. gedit) can save into that share without problem
    2.- I had this configuration under Ubuntu working for months.
    Is anyone there who could test the same scenario (that is, saving a windows share located excel 2003 file changed by openoffice 2.4/3, share mounted using gvfs) ?
    Thank you.
    Derek

    I open Word documents on my Mac using Pages and textedit without any problems.
    I also have a copy of OpenOffice and it can also open Word documents without any problems.
    Could you please provide more details on exactly what you mean when you say you having troubles opening Word documents? What kind of troubles?

  • [Solved] gsimplecal auto focus problem with openbox+tint2

    I'm using these apps described above.
    Well, after I click the clock in tint2, the gsimplecal shows, but, it won't get focus automatically, which annoyed me a lot.
    I've already set <focusNew>yes</focusNew> in my openbox/rc.xml.
    Also, I noticed that even started from terminal, the gsimplecal window won't get the focus.
    Is this a bug (or f**king feature) of gsimplecal? I installed it yesterday by yaourt -S gsimplecal-git.
    Thank you.
    This problem is solved by adding a per-application setting to openbox, as described in the gsimplecal wiki.
    Adding the <focus>yes</focus> is enough, it doesn't need that much.

    This seems to be related to the skip_taskbar window hint (set to true by default), as of gsimplecal v0.6 you can override it with the following in your config:
    mainwindow_skip_taskbar = 0

  • Problem alt-tabing some wine applications in openbox

    I have problem alt-tabing from SOME wine fullscreen games (like Frozen Throne and CS, but no problem with Fahrenheit) when I'm under openbox (The game appears to have alt-tabed - I see the desktop for a split second and then back to the game... the desktop cannot get to focus unless I switch to other desktop). I have to do the ctrl+alt+right arrow to switch to the next desktop and then return to the previous in order to alt-tab....
    Anyone know other solution?

    I'm not using compiz and I've already got a workarround... just curious if someone knows a solution...
    And, BTW, it's hard to lauch an app in a split second...

  • Xcompmgr problems (Openbox, Firefox)

    I'm trying to get xcompmgr to work.  I've never been able to do compositing because I have an ATI card that crashes every second, but it SORT OF works so I want to experiment.
    In KDE, I can start xcompmgr and use the transset utility to make windows transparent.  That works okay but Firefox scrolling goes REALLY slow.  It doens't matter if I've even set any transparency; Firefox scrolls slow.  KDE apps don't do this (Konqueror, for example) and other GTK apps are fine as well.
    In Openbox, I can't get xcompmgr to run at all.  When I try to launch it, I get this message
    error 191 request 159 minor 8 serial 8658
    It just repeats over and over and over until I close xterm (and then xcompmgr has exited as well).  Here is my xorg.conf file... any idea about these two problems?  I'm using an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro and fglrx, btw.
