[openoffice] problem

/opt/openoffice/program/soffice.bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by /opt/openoffice/program/libbasegfx680li.so)
Any idea ?

hmm...
It looks like you have some linking problems.
And you're up-to-date, correct?
If so, try using srcpac ("pacman -Sy srcpac && srcpac -Sb openoffice-base") to install it.  That will cause OO.o to compile, meaning it is going to take a while, but it should get rid of those errors.

  • Acrobat Pro version 8.1.7

I am on Snow Leopard (just switched and Acrobat Pro for the mac version 8.1.7.
I am trying to create forms from PDF's I have. And when I make a box in an area where I need users to fill in and outline the box with a color, when I save this pdf and open it in Apple's PREVIEW it does not show OUTLINES (outlines for my fields). It will show fill color but not outlines. Anyone know why not? Is this compatible with Snow Leopard or must I upgrade to version 9 in Acrobat?
    Thanks-

    Apple??
If you're asking Apple a question or for a feature you'll probably need to use their feedback support system: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html - We are all just users here.
I would not expect Adobe to support or recommend any program that creates or views a PDF file that was not purchased from or licensed by Adobe. I also don't expect them to fix a bug, or enhance a feature so that it is more compatible with a viewer program, in any OS, that they didn't create. That would be like Microsoft dealing with an OpenOffice problem with reading a .doc file (they have free MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint Viewer programs if you need one).
Preview has never had the ability to use every function that Acrobat Pro can create. Fortunately for most people Preview is as good as it has become. I don't think Apple licenses Adobe's code so there may always be issues. I've read that some companies use javascript in their PDF's for form processing. This is something that Preview will probably not enable as it is now the latest security breach for Acrobat Reader users on the windows side and would be asking for trouble.
I am looking to the near future, where the security experts are predicting the next wave of malwares will be more focused on programs like Acrobat Reader, and technologies like Flash (turn off javascript now).
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2357165,00.asp
    or
    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2009/12/hackersexploit_adobe_readerf.html
Maybe I don't need Flash on my iPhone.
The OS's themselves are all becoming harder to affect in mass numbers, so I'll avoid waiting for Adobe to catch up as they just laid off another 600 employees (before they've upgraded Reader or Flash to 64bit). They have announced that they will patch Reader again on Jan 12, 2009 to fix the latest zero-day attack that was identified in-the-wild 3 weeks ago.
BTW, windows users who are using Foxit Reader are not affected by the latest attack. 5MB download: http://download.cnet.com/Foxit-Reader/3000-10743_4-10313206.html
There are many ways to deal with PDF's without using an Adobe product on a Mac or PC, and that's what I prefer to do. Preview is also a 64 bit application that has many other uses, so I don't know how important the feature you are working with is with the Apple software engineers when Reader is a free download and does run on SL.
Since Apple supports creating PDF documents by just printing from any program, and free programs like PrimoPDF for windows do the same thing, I expect that the real Acrobat Pro would be able to create code that these free solutions can't create, and also that their own Acrobat Reader would deal with that code better than some other programs. Nobody wants to pay Adobe for the ability to create PDF's, but sometimes you get what you pay for. It's a mixed bag...
BTW, Preview comes with several versions of MacOS. The problem still has nothing to do with Snow Leopard in particular (re-installing or upgrading to 10.6.2 will not fix this issue). I assume that you would see the same problem with Tiger or Leopard. There are many programs that come with SL that might have an issue or bug that is not part of the OS, but rather with the application. If the problem was with the OS, then Acrobat Reader would have the same problem.

  • Why don't Pages .doc export files open in open office?

Annoying. - Pages is nicer to work on text with - but doesn't seem to export to .doc properly

    Thanks for this..
So it's a known feature that pages 5 ( mine is pages 5.2) doesn't produce .doc files that work?
Or is it an openoffice problem ?
a quick try with a single word file form pages to  .docx has the same result
I just bought pages to replace my Microsoft office 2004 that no longer worked in 10.9 !!
do you find libreoffice works with pages exports while openoffice doesn't ?

  • Problem starting OpenOffice with KDE [Solved]

I just did a clean Arch install witk KDE desktop. After I installed OpenOffice with
    pacman -Sy openoffice-base
when I try to start openoffice I get the following error message
"The application cannot be started. An internal error occurred."
I tried to reinstall OpenOffice but that didn't help.
Any ideas whats going wrong? OpenOffice worked fine with Gnome before I did a clean install.
    -A-

this problem is caused as some files on the install or somewhere else got assigned root permissions so that is the problem. i deleted the folder and everything recreated ok.
I have the same problem, but deleting ~/.openoffice.org2 haven't solved the problem, so I looked up this forum for other solutions and nothing helped.
From other topic: That's not a java problem, I think.
    Any ideas?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Openoffice/gXine crashes and other problems

    Hi guys
When I close Openoffice or try to resize gXine, they stop responding.
And there's another problem, let's suppose I'm using X (XFCE4-SVN + Beryl-SVN + nVidia-BETA) and I go to the bash (Ctrl+Alt+F2), if I go back to X (Ctrl+Alt+F7) all I have is a black window with a cursor (wich btw, I can move..), but everything stops responding, no more keyboard, etc..
When X starts with xScreenSaver (/opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc [line 50~]) I can kill it and switch between X and bash without any problems sometimes, but when I commented the line that used to start xScreenSaver, got nothing, the problems persists. I think this problem is about that black window bug on nVidia-drivers, but why I can use X normally if I don't switch to bash ?

  • Problems with GCC version - compiling OpenOffice

I am trying to compile OpenOffice 4.1.1 to run on 10.6.8. When I run the ./configure it runs for a few seconds then shows the following error:
"checking the GNU gcc compiler version... configure: error: found version "1.0.2", use version 3+ of the gcc compiler"
    If I run:
    gcc -v
    I get:
gcc version 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5659)
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks

I suppose the real incentive is to be able to just continue using 10.6. But it seems from other feedback that the problem with OpenOffice 4.1 is dependencies on libraries in 10.7, rather than the GCC version. I know that I could probably eventually code around those dependencies, but it would certainly involve more time and effort than I am currently able to devote to it.
I have tried LibreOffice in the past, but frankly I found it so horrible and slow (I think because of its dependency on Java) that I ended up using the X11 version of OpenOffice - which in itself was not a terrific user experience, but was a lot better than the alternative.
I will try the version you have mentioned, but I also note that this is planned to be obsolete by May next year, and is also the last version that will support 10.6 or 10.7 (10.8 will be the lowest requirement). Which will leave a fair number of 64-bit intel machines unsupported, since some of those are only able to run 10.7. Thanks for the feedback.

  • OpenOffice - is it a powerbook problem?

I noticed at versiontracker.com there is a new version of Openoffice 2.0 for the mac. I've installed it but it won't open. I've heard it's happened to others as well but I don't know which mac they are using. Could this be a PB problem? Thanks

Hi Pete, officially OpenOffice should work, however you will have to run it using OSX's X11 technology.
Essentially, you need to check if X11 is installed on your PowerBook - it should be in /Applications/Utilities.
If it's not (and OpenOffice needs it to work), you'll need to track down your Install/Restore CD/DVDs and install it from there - you'll find some handy instructions here.

  • OpenOffice 2.2.1 and callouts problem

    Hello,
I have just noticed that my openoffice 2.2.1-3 does not correctly display callouts (I tried impress and draw), but they are displayed correctly when viewed on another computer (with OO 2.2.0 installed). Also, documents created on another computer with OO 2.2.0 (which looks fine there) do not display correctly on my computer. Is it known bug? Can anyone confirm this?
"Not correctly" means that callout is shown as a rectangle (or oval/circle) but without "leg".
    Regards,

  • [SOLVED] (PKGBUILD) problem with makepkg for go-openoffice

[SOLVED]: In the PKGBUILD, there's a function before build(), named mksource() and a comment "source PKGBUILD && mksource".
Just run it first, then copy the "/tmp/go-openoffice-source/go-openoffice-ooo320-m12.tar.xz", run "makepkg -s" as usual.
    Thanks :D
Hi, I tried to makepkg for extra/go-openoffice (from abs) by using "makepkg -s" on my x86_64 laptop, and get the following error (before the build begin):

I understand that this comes from

  • Openoffice 2.0 install problem

I've recently acquired a mac mini, but been a linux/bsd user for a long time. I want to use openoffice 2.0 on the mac, so I downloaded a .dmg file for osx. I have of course X11 installed.
As far as I know, this is a disk image and it's mounted in finder. Opening the image (or browsing it's contents) just starts openoffice, but no installer? Since this seems a bit unusual for someone who's used to installers, I just wonder, is there an installer somewhere in this image?
If I want to properly install the package in the filesystem and make it available for all users, how should I do it?
Thanks in advance for response to this quite noob questions

Thanks for being so helpful people
Oki, I just did as suggested and dragged the openoffice app file to the /Applications folder. So far so good, I can launch it from there, I see the splash screen and writer is launched.
Now I wonder how to launch the rest of the applications, like scalc? I can launch them from an xterm by traversing the /Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.0.app/Contents/openoffice.org/program directory and launching it from there.
But I wonder, is there an easier or neater way to do this? I could probably make some links i x11 to launch the rest, once I figure out which apps are part of the content. And the apps are also burried under /Applications/OpenOffice.org in Finder, but it's cumbersome to access them there. But I've noteiced that also an openoffice.org application is launched, but it doesn't give me access to the rest.

  • Openoffice spellcheck, changing language problem

Hi, when I change language to english in the spellcheck dialog (F7) in openoffice writer, it goes back to norwegian for the next word. I tried to change standard language (in options) til english, but still this happens.
I have both openoffice-spell-en and openoffice-spell-no installed. and I can se that the english spellcheck is available.
    Any solution to this?

This may be by design, it uses the language that the word has been set to use. For example if you have four misspelled words on a line, but change the language for each one to different languages, when spell checking [F7] it will alternate between each language for each word.
So the best thing to do is set the language for the text. Format / Character / Font / Language
