Openreach white modem probs

hi all just got bt infinity in yesterday and its fine,if i leave my pc on it wont loss connection but as soon as i shut pc down then  back on later i have to reboot the openreach box to get the internet on,all blue lights are on and all the 3 lights on the openreach box are on but still have to reboot it everytime any one got any ideas please

Sure, I'm new to this too but this is how I got it to connect.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4:  Connect to the internet (the top option) then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5:  Username [email protected] and the password as broadband
Step6: connect, for some reason it may say that it cannot connect, just keep pressing try again if this happens and it will eventually connect.
If you don’t get any problems while connected like this it’s likely that your homehub is causing stability issues as I think mine was, my best advice would be to contact the mods about this as they are very good at sorting problems.
I hope this helps.

  • Enabling dhcp on the openreach vdsl modem possible...

    good evening all!
just had my infinity installation done and its really great. if anyone has read my other post a week ago about my questions of using powerline adapter to connect the modem to the homehub, the answer is YES! Much to my delight (and that of the engineer who said he didnt think it would work) it does work . i have the modem connected to the master socket downstairs and then upstairs in the loft we have the homehub.
there is one problem. it appears that any other powerline adapter i connect (say for example to connect another pc) this doesnt work. i think this is because the openreach modem has dhcp disabled. does anyone know how to access the settings of the modem to see if we can change this or change the software back to the huwaei version (i assume the modem software is custom bt one).
    thanks for any tips/advice
but i think for other people who want to use powerlines then go ahead!! IT WORKS!

ok i think i've cracked it
what i have now done is run 2 powerline adaptors to the homehub as follows:
one adaptor connected to the ethernet WAN port (the red broadband port) which apparently is ONLY connected to the openreach modem
another adaptor connected to one of the 3 remaining REGULAR (non WAN) ports which then distributes the network connection as did my previous set up.
in conclusion, it appears that the WAN port was the source of the problem, not the modem. this red port must be specially configured to only accept communications from the openreach modem and nothing else.
the only downside is that i have 2 big powerline adaptors connected to the homehub which aesthetically isnt great. and i need to purchase some additional adaptors to re-connect my other 2 devices (given that i've now 'lost' a pair for teh purpose of connecting homehub to modem).
i think this should be made into a sticky thread as this is groundbreaking information! all the bt people (sales/technical) had no definitive answer for me and the engineer was just as impressed as i was. i am sure this will be valuable information for anyone else who has a setup similar to mine where you need to separate the router from the modem.
thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!

  • OpenReach FIBRE MODEM

I got the BT home hub 5 a while ago and I might have lost the open reach modem, is there a way I can get them to send another one because I will be using my own router NETGEAR R7000 nighthawk

The modem is Openreach property not BT's so BT would not be able to replace it

banning me for telling the truth is confirmation of the fact.
I have heard that the truth hurts and I guess in this case it is true.

  • White screen prob and beyond!!!!

I have an Iphone 3G and I dont really know what happened. one day it just had a white screen and is not recognised by my computer. however I do get the beep from the computer to tell me that it has connected.
    what I have tried:
    1. i was going to restore it but its not recognized so cant do that
    2. tried to reset it with home and power buttons. all it does is give me the apple screen and then back to the white screen and off.
    3. tried a hard reset where i hold the home, power and up volume buttons. i get the same result as a normal reset.
    4. I have been told that the white screen is caused by internal hardware becoming disconnected. my warranty is up so i opened my iPhone and checked and everything is connected.

    Hi,
Are you using any accessories with the iPhone? If you are, try testing without them.
Also, try restoring the iPhone from recovery mode. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 will walk you through the process.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, the iPhone will need service. You can find answers to Frequently Asked Questions about iPhone service here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/.

  • 2012 21.5" iMac wake from sleep white screen probs

I have my new 2012 21.5" iMac. It's a top end one with fusion drive for ref. when I'm waking it from sleep I get a total white screen, with the time in digital in the top RH corner, and nothing.
First few times I had to hold down the power button to restart it. This time I shook the mouse and had the effect whereby it "colours/reveals" the screen when I move about, pixel by pixel if you understand?
By doing this I was able to see my login n,ae, clicked this and the screen went to my password ask screen, which was fine.
Bit worried on this as its a brand spanning new iMac. Is it just me or is my iMac (already) faulty? I'm sure I had it a few times on my old 2007 Alu iMac as well.
    Any help?
    Cheers

    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • Creative earphones (white earbuds) prob

I just bought the new Muvo Micro N200 52Mb and after less than a month, the two wires from the left and right earphones were going out of the little box that join the wires. I can see now the inside of it with the metal wires, etc.. I can't use them anymore, it would do a electrical disfunction. So I am currently asking creative for the steps I have to take to get a warranty return.
Do u have the same problem?

I recall reading somewhere on the forum that 32 Ohm phones will remove the backlight buzz, so it might be an opportunity to upgrade. Of course, the trade-off is shorter battery life.
On the subject of battery life, I've found that my N200 is using up my batteries at seemingly a much faster rate than the 5 hours on the back of the box. Many of my songs are at 92kbps, and I think I've read before that higher bitrate uses up more juice, so I'm wondering if that have anything to do with the battery depletion.
Not that this problem matters for me personally: I use so many battery-powered gadgets that I've switched over to using NiMHs, so juice depletion really doesn't matter for me. But it'd be nice for others to know if this might be an issue.

  • Home Hub 3 orange light few times a day.

    hi
at whits end and family not impressed got BT infinity a few weeks ago and ever since then the HH3 Broadband light goes orange and the only way to get it back to blue is to reset the openreach white modem.
i have tried everything to get the Blue light back up from disconnecting/reconnecting cables, power up and down of HH3, reset of HH3 , factory reset even a different HH3 both types A and B none of which works i just keep getting an orange broadband light. the only way to get it back to blue is to press and hold the reset button on the back of the openreach modem.
all the time all 3 lights are lit on the openreach modem the power DSL and LAN1 are all green.
i have read that there are syncronisation issues between the HH3 and the openreach modem
what i am wondering is would BT send me a new replacement open reach modem or just send out and engineer who will do everything that ive allready tried.
there are no connection issues when it is working getting 60Mb download and 10Mb upload speed when doing a speed test.
any other ideas of things i could try much appreciated.

BT will not send out a new modem as that is supplied by Openreach i would suggest you try and get a new hub first then if needed get Openreach out to replace the modem and check the line

  • BT Infinity Installation Issues

    Hi there,
I've been trying to get the Customer Support line to make sense of my issue and after talking to 7 different people with no luck I'm hoping this medium may help me out, and perhaps confirm a few things/suggest my next steps!
Today I had my BT Infintiy install, with the HomeHub 5 & YouView received the day before. Unfortunaly I was not around for the install but did leave requests/information with my better half that were relayed to the install engineer.
The main socket is located in the hall and I am totally fine with having the HomeHub here - the YouView box had been setup in the lounge using TP Link adapters. I left the message stating this and said any troubleshooting that may be required can be done using a long buzzed out ethernet cable - he even unplugged the TP links (connecting from YouView to Homehub)
The main socket has been changed to allow the smaller RJ11 (to connect the modem/router) and also another one for the 'normal' phone connection. But this is where things get a little strange...
The HomeHub wasn't there.. its was installed in the Lounge next to the YouView.
But, the engineer had changed the phone face plate in the lounge to the smaller RJ11 connection type and then connected up an OpenReach Modem. This then connected to not the HomeHub5, but the HomeHub 4 orginally installed on the 6mbps service! I only noticed this when grabbing the card off the back to re-setup the Wifi and saw the SSID contained HomeHub4!
The HomeHub 5 was still in the box, untouched.
I've now unplugged the OpenReach modem and plugged the HomeHub5 into the master socket - I'm guessing this has a filter built in as all phones/broadband seems OK without the microfilter.. please correct me if I'm wrong on this! The TPLinks are plugged back in and the YouView box is working fine.
My issues with the above are:
    - The workmanship is a little shoddy; the phone sockets are a little off center.. not the biggest issue and something I can sort but a tad annoying the least
    - I've now 'lost' a normal phone point in the lounge because of the smaller RJ11 connection.. again I could possibly A) buy an adapter or B) Change the face plate and wire back in a 'normal one'... but I don't really think I should have to!
    - I have no idea what the guy was thinking with the OpenReach white modem.. the HomeHub4 has  one built in (and was connected to the master socket without that anyway!)
I've not managed to get anyone on the support team to understand the issue and I keep getting put through to Broadband support, who say they can't help; who pass me to Customer Serivces, who I ask to put me through to the Phone Team (as instructed by the Broadband team) and then the loop continues.
If anyone could confirm if I've overlooked anything in returning the HomeHub back to the (also changed) Master Socket that would be great; and even better if a Mod could help me progress this that would be even better!
    Cheers

    Hi both,
    Firstly thanks for your replies
I'm afraid I haven't got any further with BT support; and the plot seems to thicken slightly
I've taken on board the comments and can confirm that if a 'data extension' socket was ran, it wasn't using an external cable but appears to be piggy backing off the master socket.. the one in the lounge presents a rj11 connection rather than him running an rj45 along the wall or similar..
So with the BT HH5 plugged into directly into the top connection (rj11 small) of the BT MK2 I get the following:
    6. Data rate: 14180 / 56301
    7. Maximum data rate: 14245 / 56744
    8. Noise margin: 6.1 / 6.6
    9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 20.3
    10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 20.2
I was slightly disappointed with the above speed initially as I was expecting to get closer to the clean A range shown below (I live in a new build property about ~150 meters from the developments own PCP, which then has fibre back to the exchange which is around 5000m I'd say:
    FTTC Range A (Clean) 79.6 59.9 20 19.6 -- Available
    FTTC Range B (Impacted) 70.3 41.3 20 13.9 -- Available
So, I thought I'd have a go at connecting the HH5 to a filter and then into the test socket:
    6. Data rate: 15770 / 64780
    7. Maximum data rate: 15801 / 65178
    8. Noise margin: 6.0 / 6.7
    9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 18.6
    10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 18.6
Although it's not the be all and end all of an improvement it is better than before.. do you think the internal wiring warrents a closer inspection?
    Again, many thanks in advance

  • BT INFINITY - AWFUL SERVICE

I have had BT Infinity for a few weeks now and after the first few days the speed settled at around 50Mb/s.
However thers is no point having a fast broadband service if every weekend and most evenings I have to re-set the router/Hhub. Not once but so far today  - Saturday - 11 times...
Tried the online trouble shooting, entered my phone number and its still checking (40 minutes so far) my details.
Honestly a slower consistent connection is far better AND MUCH CHEAPER, . Why BT do your advertising claim what you fail to provide. So disappointed and probably nothing I can do about it.
AHAHAHAHAHAAH YOU KNOW I HAD TO RESET AGAIN BEFORE I COULD POST THIS!!!!!!!!!

resetting the Openreach white modem is the worse thing you can do it will cause the DLM to see your line as unstable and keep reducing your speed until it sees a stable connection you now need to leave it alone for at least 2 week so a stable connection is seen then your speed should start to increase again

  • Ultra Slow Infinity

    Hi
I have had Infinity Option 2 since April, and when it was first installed I got 37mb download and 8-9mb upload, however over time it slowed right down, but a reboot of the router and hub would usually restore the speed.  Over the past month, the download speed has decreased steadily, and the upload speed has reduced to at best 3.98mb, but more often than not is less than 1mb.  Over the past fortnight or so, there has been a significant drop in speed, both up and down (see the attached graph)  Tonight, I have an download speed of 0.72Mbps and an upload speed of 0.21Mbps.  Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how I can get back to the origional speeds I had?
    Regards
    Trevor
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Trevor and welcome.
What I would do first is....
Connect your laptop to the HH3 via an ethernet lead and run the FTTC diagnostic part of the speed test http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
    And note your IP settings.
Being wired this removes any possible wireless issues and will give you your IP Internet Profile which will be useful if you have to contact the Forum Mods for help.
The IP is the profile setting the exchange has set you on to provide a reliable broadband.
If your IP settings are low with resulting download achieved speeds you could try forcing an IP reset.
Turn off both the Openreach Modem and HH3 and after a minute or two back on again.
You then need to run the BT speedtester again to see if the IP has changed.
(However there is a 1 hour delay between tests)
You could try the BT Beta 40Mbps test part as that may not need the 1 hour delay.
Or in the meantime try the http://www.speedtest.net/ and see if speeds have improved.
One variation of speed problem is when the IP setting drops very low and the achieved download is correspondingly low.
The other variation of speed problem could be the IP setting remain high (eg 38716Kbps) but the achieved download speed is very low.
Carry out these tests and add the results to your thread, if things have not improved I would seek help from the BT forum Mods with this form http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
And add a copy of this threads URL to the contact form so they can see the background to the problem.
The Mods are very helpful and will contact you, may take 72hrs or so due their workload.
Btw it's best not to turn off the BT Openreach White Modem too often as this may be recognised as a line problem by the DLM Exchange Monitoring equipment with a corresponding reduction in IP (speed).
    Good Luck
My test result example below shows
IP Profile for your line is -38717 Kbps.... 38Mbps download max speed setting.
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 2000 Kbps.... Upload capped at 2Mbps as I am on Infinity option 1.
    Test1 comprises of two tests

For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12000-38717 Kbps .
     Additional Information:

  • Whers my openreach modem?!!!

This is my last attempt before i cancel and move to a company that values my custom!. I am at boiling point as i can not get an answer even from an operator that does understand me (english language) about why an engineer did not arrive at my address to install the openreach fibre modem etc. I recieved confirmation that my services would start on 05/08/13 and an engineer would be here between 1-6 pm after booking the day off i waited, waited, and am still waiting nearly two weeks later and not a thing has been done.I have spent hours and i mean at least 3 probably more being passed from one team to another even online chat messed me around an operator named (RATNADEEP NANDI) and still got connected back to where i started an hour and twenty minutes ago.I am so frustrated at the moment and feel humiliated to be honest and am going to cancel.A friend at work had a similar problem to me and it ended up getting sorted by a moderator on here so here i am.Please can somebody help me? An open fault has been placed on my phone line and broaband service, all because the foriegn gentleman could not understand what i was trying to explain.THERE IS NO FAULT BECAUSE I AM USING THEM RIGHT NOW!!! So for one last time (and i mean last time) can someone please assist me?

  • How to set up time capsule with BT home hub 4.0 & Openreach

    Idiots guide needed.
My TimeCapsule (year old model) had been running well from my BT Openreach box (without using the Home Hub 4.0) but recently had issues with connection dropping - BT said they've sorted out their end and can't see any remaining issues and can't offer me any more support if I'm not using the Home Hub 4.0
I reset the TC to run straight from the Openreach Box  still have issues with wi-fi dropping in and out (both on ethernet and wi-fi).
    Can I:....
    1)     set up Time Capsule running from BT Home Hub 4.0 which itself runs from BT Openreach white box (thus continuing to get support from BT)
or should i go back to
    2)      Time Capsule running straight from BT Openreach Box
Can some one post an idiots guide to either option?
Other stuff that may be important.
Macbook air running Yosemite (mid 2011 model)
    Apple TV
    Airportexpress
    Time Capsule
    2 x iphone 4s
    Kids PC
Ethernet and wifi for above - I generally run everything hard wired via ethernet.

The easiest and sure way is to use bridge on the TC as the method of connection. The TC then becomes a device in your network and gets its IP from the main router that I presume BT supply.
    Method is,
    1. Plug the TC WAN port into the BT supplied modem by ethernet.
    2. Plug the computer you are using for the setup into the TC by ethernet.
    3. Run the airport utility .. go to internet tab on the top menu..
In the bottom option, Connection Sharing choose off (bridged mode)
    4. Go to the wireless page and setup wireless connection as you like it.. using whichever band you want. And make sure security is set to the highest setting, wpa2 personal. Put in a decent wireless passkey.
    5. Press the update and fix whatever else the TC will show as needing fixing.. usually security stuff.
    6. You can then disconnect the ethernet and connect by wireless if you want. Any port on the TC will now be a LAN port, including WAN.
This is assuming BT supply a wireless router with built in vdsl/other type of modem. If so you normally will not be able to bridge the modem, unless BT are using pppoe authentication which they haven't in the past.
If you really need to use the TC as a router then you will need to work out an alternative method. You can double NAT by placing the TC in the DMZ of the BT router if that is an option. It is not without issues in general.

  • White box or not?

    Hello
I have just received the free upgrade to fiber optic. An engineer came to set up the new socket. I didn't have the black router as I had to go to collect it from the post office but he kept on saying I just needed to plug one cable, very easy. He brought a white modem to connect to the black router. I did that and after trying to reset, unplug, etc... no broadband signal, red light flashing until the day after. I phoned BT and they told me I should not use the white modem and to connect the black router directly to the new socket. I was surprised and the person on the line did not know the reason why I had that white box! Broadband now is working fine, speed test done a few times, I'm just wondering why the engineer installed the white box and what I should do with that, and also if I'm getting the fiber optic speed (test are between 50 and 80 mpbs).
Anyone who knows the answer... thank you!

  • VDSL Modem

    Hi,
My VDSL modem as gone ti* up.
I do not wish to purchased from ebay is there any official outlet where Im able to purchase a BT Openreach VDSL modem?
if the answer is no, can any inform me how I am then able to use my own router? Im not techincal so require VERY simply replies
Can you use the HH5 but disable the router element so you are just using the modem for example?
    Thnak to all in advance
    Lee

As stjp has said, if you want an official white openreach modem, then your only real avenue is to purchase one off of that well-known auction site.
That having been said, if you do a search for VDSL modem routers, then there are some options from the major manufacturers.
What I would suggest is to go to one of the specialist suppliers, such as broadband buyer and speak with one of their sales agents, who can suggest an all-in-one unit that meets both your needs and ultimately, your budget.
    I hope this info helps.
