OpenReportingWebServiceConnection in the windowsupdate.log sometimes points to Microsoft URL and sometimes to WSUS server
OpenReportingWebServiceConnection in the windowsupdate.log sometimes points to Microsoft URL and sometimes to WSUS server.
Why is that? WSUS reports are never up-to-date. if this is by design it sucks
Also... it will take forever before clients are reporting to WSUS server..

Hi Lawrence,
I installed a new server (2012R2 standard), fully patched and only the WSUS role. Uninstalled the old one, used same database and moved the downloads. Installed a new PC (win 8.1 update 1), not in the domain so no policies. Changed the local update
policy and point to the WSUS server.
Still no luck...... WSUS Last Status Report keeps saying 'Not yet reported'.
Could it be a network problem (VLAN, Firewall)??

I am trying to do a full Time Machine Backup to a new external disk. The backup starts, and it says "Time remaining about 4 days." That seems like a very long time, but the real problem is that the computer "logs off" after a few hours, and the backup stops. The system preferences are set to "Never" for Computer sleep and Display sleep. The computer does not ordinarily log off automatically, but it has done this twice since I started the Time Machine backup.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting. -
Trap The Duplicate Logging On FMS, LoggOff Old One And Accept New Instance.
Hi All,
I need help on the following topic of FMS 2.0.
On FMS Server I want to trap the duplicate logging, Logoff
Old One and accept New Instance.
The scenario is like this, if a user logged in with the name
wins” on FMS Application from his Office, after some
time he came to his home and want to logging again.
I want to disconnect or logoff the instance of application
which is logged in from his Office and allow him to logging from
his home.
Actually I want to implement the functionality like
Yahoo messenger.
Yahoo messenger gives the facility to login from another
system and logoff the previous instance.
So, tell me what I have to do to achieve this.
ThanksonAppStart intitialize an object to hold all connected
clients, maybe called userList:
application.onAppStart = function(){
this.userList = {};
Then when someone logs in, they of course pass in their
username. Simply put that client in userList by its username.
application.onConnect = function(newClient, username){
this.acceptConnection(newClient);
this.userList[username] = newClient;
Then you can easily modify that code to boot the old client
if that username is already in use:
application.onConnect = function(newClient, username){
if(this.userList[username]){
this.disconnect(this.userList[username]);
this.acceptConnection(newClient);
this.userList[username] = newClient;
See if that works for ya. -
Help! We are retiring our Windows 2000 server (finally) and going with Lion Server only. We are transitioning from Windows to Mac and have 30 PC's running XP and a few scattered Windows 7 PC's (Lab). We have teachers and staff using Mac computers. Can I authenticate my windows pc's to Lion server?
1. We are running lion on the old Xservs because we had them. Thought they still would be good file servers. And we thought Lion would work on them but know that mountain lion will not
2. We have looked up some errors and they have to do with spotlight not getting index finnished with all the adobe files in folders, subfolders and subsubfolders. The vnode errors have something to do with lots ofmopen files but we do not know why. Maybe all these many directiries of files in deep hierarchy of adobe CS which the department does shared work directly on the server is issue. We have tried to get them tomuse as archive only but they do not habe a clue how to do shared work on separate clients. This deparment is not very savy in use but imtense Adobe CS users and my concern is these old file servers cannot take this kind of use.?
Imposted the logs because i have no clue to why they keep filling up (the vnodes). -
Is it possible to get the user logged on (at least for Windows and IE)
Hi,
Does anyone know if its possible to get the OS user through apex? Essentially I want to pre populate a text field with a user id. . .
DarrylOw, right, I was wrong then. Looked fine for me since my APEX user name is the same as my Windows log in name :(
Maybe this (not so recent) document can help you:
http://www.greenit.li/website/content/OracleApplicationExpressProofOfConceptNTLM.doc
I never tried this myself, but it explains how you can configure Apache for NTLM authentication which allows you to return the authenticated user name to APEX. But this will probably only work with Internet Explorer.

I have the hardware and am definitely interested in another option to Windows 7 besides Linux.
Any chance that Apple will recognize a major business opportunity by releasing OS-X to the general public?

I am using Win XP Pro SP3. I have CS3 installed, and successfully installed Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash from CS4 Design Premium. Then I successfully uninstalled DW, FW and FL CS3.
When I tried to open a SWF in Illustrator it failed to open, and then I tried to create a really simple SWF (a rectangle) by exporting from Illustrator and tried to open that and it also failed. Whenever I tried to open or place ANY SWF into Illustrator I get a "file *** is in an unknown format and cannot be opened" error.
I decided there must be a corrupt file, maybe the upgrade must have affected some Illustrator files, so I tried to repair the CS3 installation. After over 2 hours of INTENSE FRUSTRATION having to constantly switch CS3 and CS4 disks many MANY times, the installation failed, listing "common files" that were missing from non-existent folders such as "C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Desktop\Adobe CS4\Fireworks CS4\payloads\etc
When I tried to repair the CS4 installation after loading all the profile settings it errors before the installation window comes up, with "Critical errors were found in setup. Please see the setup log for details". Then it shuts down the installer. I then tried to do a system restore and system restore failed on all restore points!
Please help:
1. Where is "the setup log"?
2. Will creating and populating the folders mentioned in the failed CS3 installation from the CS4 disk allow it to work?
3. How can I uninstall CS4 if I can't even get to the installation window?
4. Has Adobe just DESTROYED MY REGISTRY BEYOND REPAIR!!!???im haveing a huge irritation useing illustrator cs4 live paint bucket because i can use everything else apart from the paint bucket which should be the easyiest tool to use sometimes it works with the white arrow sometimes it doesnt i sometimes get this below message
the selection contains objects that cannot be converted. live paint groups can only contain paths and compound paths. clipping paths are not allowed
the lines which i have drawn are connected which i believe have to be in order to use the paint bucket and i have no clipping paths so i am am baffled
i presume it is because the line is set to 0.01 it seems the live paint bucket wont notice thin lines, but i tried makeing the line thicker so i could use the paint bucket and it still doesnt work. -

I accidently delete the archived log, how to recover?
There was old archived log file in a directory, I delete the directory, so when I backup whole archived log with RMAN, I often got error like this,
RMAN-06059: expected archived log not found, lost of archived log compromises recoverabiligy

I delete the directory, so when I backup other archived log with RMAN, I often got error like this From metalink:-
Error: RMAN-06059 (RMAN-6059)Text: expected archived log not found, lost of archived log compromises
recoverability
Cause: The archived log was not found. The repository thinks it does
exist. If the archived log has in fact been lost and there is no
backup, then the database is no longer recoverable across the
point in time covered by the archived log. This may occur because
the archived log was removed by an outside utility without
updating the repository.
Action: If the archived log has been removed with an outside utility and
the archivelog has already been backed up, then you can
synchronize the repository by running CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL.
If the archivelog has not been previously backed up, then you
should take a full backup of the database and archivelogs to
preserve recoverability. Previous backups are not fully
recoverable.

WindowsUpdate.log - Setting AU scheduled install time
In the WindowsUpdate.log file, there's a line that goes something like this:
2009-09-10 08:58:12:094 292 dd8 AU Setting AU scheduled install time to 2009-09-11 07:00:00
Can someone please explain to me how WSUS determines the scheduled install time?
I set these policies yesterday (Sept.9) and rebooted my PC to get the new policy. To me, that should mean the install time should have been today, Sept.10 at 3am. Since my PC wasn't turned on, it should have automatically installed the updates this morning when I logged in, right? Instead, I am prompted to 'install 2 updates'.
In my case, I'm logged in to my PC as a local administrator and have WSUS set to:
Configure Automatic Updates: Enabled. 4 - Auto Download/Install at 3am every day.
Reschedule Automatic Updates scheduled installations: Not configured
No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations: Enabled

Allow non-administrators to receive update notifications: Not configuredI checked the log further and found that WSUS initally set the install date to this morning, as expected:

2009-09-09 10:22:34:801 480 ea8 AU Setting AU scheduled install time to 2009-09-10 07:00:00
It appears to have installed a WSUS client update and queued the others:
2009-09-10 06:57:13:880 2260 1250 Setup Installing setup package "WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226"
Can someone confirm this is the case - it installs prerequisites first and waits a certain time period before automatically applying the rest?
Additionally, does the RescheduleWaitTime only apply if the computer is rebooted? What about a log off? -

The IP address that appears in source network address all belong to VPN clients. And it looks like its only happening with 4-5 IPs, all of which are VPN clients. These clients shouldn't be connecting to anything on this server, which is why its puzzling.
Our DC is Windows 2008 and the VPN server is another member server on the domain. I suspect the issue is at the client PCs since there are many other VPN clients connected that don't generate the event ID.
Can anyone tell what the issue might be?
Thanks.Hi Rayminette,
There are multiple login sources that could possibly be generating the errors:
FTP logins - check your FTP log to see if login failures are showing up at the same time.
Logins via Basic Authentication over http or https (simple, but possibly dangerous, way to password-protect a web site).
ASP scripts.
This logon type 8 indicates a network logon like logon type 3 but where the password was sent over the network in the clear text. Windows server doesn’t allow connection to shared file or printers with clear text authentication. The only situation
I’m aware of are logons from within an ASP script using the ADVAPI or when a user logs on to IIS using IIS’s basic authentication mode. In both cases the logon process in the event’s description will list advapi. Basic authentication is only dangerous
if it isn’t wrapped inside an SSL session (i.e. https). As far as logons generated by an ASP, script remember that embedding passwords in source code is a bad practice for maintenance purposes as well as the risk that someone malicious will view the source
code and thereby gain the password.

What is the source of thousands of 4625 Logon Failure errors with Logon Type 8 (NetworkCleartext)?
I hope this helps. -
Hi,
I've been setting up SCCM 2012 and mostly following the instructions and guides at
http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4045-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-guides/. We used to use a WSUS server to deploy our updates but now I've setup SCCM 2012 and setup the SUP role (and WSUS) on the SCCM server.
I belive I've gotten most things properly configured. The SCCM Software Center application is successfully installed on all my clients and I'm able to setup software update groups and I just tried to deploy the most recent updates from this Tuesday
patch release. I can see the packages downloaded on my SCCM server in the folder that I specified but the updates don't seem to going down to my clients. I've looked at the WUAHandler.log on one of my clients and it keeps repeating the following
lines:

Thanks in advance,
NickI was troubleshooting this issue earlier today and pulling my hair out until I came across this blog post: http://www.bibble-it.com/2009/07/24/sccm-update-scan-error . Like many others, I'm using WSUS to also push the new SCCM client, so the GPO for the
WSUS server needs to be in place. The issue you're running into here is that your server names don't match up EXACTLY.

You need to change your group policy to use the FQDN. In your case it would be http://topanga.kcicorp.com:8530 instead of http://topanga:8530 -

Regards,
RakeshHussein,
Checked the last 2 notes and the patch we already applied and other one is for R12.
Yet to check the first note in detail.....
Meanwhile i see a bug 8945245 which has the same issue as we have and it seems to be fixed, but not able to get any details from that bug. Any idea on what would be the fix mentioned in the bug.....
Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
my macbook screen goes black at random points when I am using it. I know it is still running as music continues to play and I can vaguely make out the content of what is on the screen. Sometimes the screen will flicker between black and normal. Can I fix this?Emily..
Could be the graphics card, run the Apple Hardware Test
If the hardware test doesn't reveal any problems, use Lion Recovery.
