OpenSUSE - Arch switch: encrypted partitions, keeping /home and other

Hello,
I am considering switching from openSUSE to Arch -- I want to gain performance, avoid releases and try something new -- but have some doubts/questions. I would appreciate if you could help me a bit with resolving them :)
i. From what I see on the fora some of you are (ex) SUSE users so... will I miss anything?
ii. Should I expect any problems in general?
a) I am using nVidia proprietary drivers and, despite all downsides, would like to keep doing so. Are there any problems regarding installation or keeping them up to date?
b) Is it possible to use s2ram and s2disk or obtain working counterpart(s), as, I hear, there are some problems with those?
c) Is it possible to install software from debs and/or rpms? Possibly without extracting and moving files manually?
d) Is it safe to assume that hardware and all applications not specific to any distribution will work just as well as they do on SUSE? I know, Linux is Linux but still.
/edit: e) Does getting fonts to be displayed properly takes a lot of tweaking? This problem does not exist on SUSE but on other distros it used to be a pain.
iii. I have SUSE installed on encrypted partitions (with luks and /dev/mapper so it's pretty similar to setup recommended for Arch in that matter) and would like to avoid reencrypting as well as keep /home untouched. Is it possible and not too complicated?

YaST is not that slow anymore ;)
What about the encryption part? That's the one that makes me anxious.

1. There is no way of knowing. These things happen.
2. The iOS only gets updated when you want it to be.
3. You should always update to the latest iOS your phone will support. Apple do not write the updates to make your experience worse.

After updating to Firefox 7.0.1, menu bar for Google,yahoo, Facebook (message,notification,profile,home) and others site are disabled. How can solve this problem?

I tried with Firefox 4;5 and 6, same problem exist . I tried by active all add ons for facebook, same problem exist. If I use internet explorer , I don't find such problem with it.

Thanks a lot for your swift response. And sorry if it was a bit too hectic to go through my detailed query (which I did because it was misunderstood when I asked previously). As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.

Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.

Keeping speakers and other magnetic stuff near iMac.

So I'm a bit of an old schooler and I think everyone remembers the time when magnets used to damage the CRT and other sutff like that, today not quite that much at lest that i what I think. So i have a question i have a Philips TV that i use it as monitor for my PC and i have a question are the little speakers in the TV able to do any damage to the iMac i have a gap between then that is like 3 fingers wide. Ticture down to describe the scenario better.

You dont have to worry about that any more. For example you have speakers in the bottom of your imac that are very similar to the ones in that tv.

Mail app keeps crashing (and other related problems)

A few days ago, my Mail app began crashing on seemingly unrelated events, so I assume my data got corrupted. I won't explain all the scenarios because it's a complete mess. To keep it simple, I have only 2 accounts and they are both on Gmail, so no backups are needed. I'd like to try doing a complete wipe of all data that the Mail app uses and that should fix it.
What files/folders does Mail use? So far, I've found:
~/Library/Mail
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
I've also seen someone mention ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, but I don't have this file.
After deleting the above and creating my mail accounts, the crashes are back. The only possibilities I can think of are:
1. I haven't deleted EVERYTHING owned by Mail yet. <-- What other files/folders belong to the Mail app?
2. Mail is depending on something else on my system that is broken.
3. Mail app itself somehow became corrupted.
4. Something being synced from my Gmail is not properly being handled, resulting in a crash.
When this started happening (if it helps):
1 day after installing the OS X update 10.8.3 as well as MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update v1.1, my MBP froze as soon as I loaded League of Legends. This was followed by a reboot as I couldn't Cmd+Tab out of the game. I wasn't aware of the Force Close App shortcut at the time, so I used the power button. That was the only time this happened, and it has worked fine a few times after the updates were applied and also worked after the reboot following the freeze. Since that time, I have encountered another issue where just about all of my apps crashed simultaneously -- no 3D-accelerated apps were even running this time.
Since then, I've updated VirtualBox from 4.2.8 to 4.2.10 (seemed like something that could cause this weirdness as I always have a VM running) and have not had any problems except Mail crashing all the time.
This question is primarily about fully resetting the Mail app to clean settings/data, but any thoughts on what may have happened are also welcome

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

My iPad mini's screen is not responding. But the home and other buttons are still working. It was just working fine yesterday. Is there anything I can do to make it work?

When Contacts is oepend, it's impossible to switch input language with Ctrl-Space.
You have to enter 1 letter and then it is possible to switch layout.
Any ideas how to fix this?

IPhoto slidshow keeps pausing and other IPhoto Problems

We have created several slidshows with music and now they keep pausing every 15-20 seconds for a split second up to several seconds.
Further, it seems whenever I try to do something in IPhoto, whether it is cut and paste a title or moving through pictures in an event I get the "colorwheel" for a few seconds or many seconds. I am using IPhoto 11 version 9.3.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

How can I prevent Message from showing home and other numbers?

Message+ is offering ALL the phone numbers in the database! It should only be offering mobile numbers. How can I make it be more selective? TIA

I re-read my initial posting and I should have been more clear. When I use Messenger+ to send texts, it offers me all the phone numbers in the Contacts list. It should NOT offer me the Home, Work, Fax numbers that cannot be sent texts.

Can I remove sepia tone but keep crop and other tone settings?

I can't figure out how to remove the creative setting "Sepia tone" without resetting all settings on an image. Is there a way?

You may be able to Copy the latest settings (using the COPY button below the History Panel). Highlight the latest settings in the History Panel and click COPY.
In the Pop-up screen, select only those changes that you made after applying the Preset, such as exposure, etc by ticking appropriate boxes.
Then Click on History Step before the Sepia Tone step. Click Copy.
It may not work if some of your changes after applying the Sepia Tone altered any settings that the Sepia Tone also alters. You can find what changes the Sepia Tone Preset makes, by right clicking on it in the Presets panel. Export it to, say, your desktop and view its contents using a text editor. The Sepia Tone does change the Tone Curve, Converts to Black and White, and alters Gray Scale Settings among other changes.
So maybe if you experiment with the Copy and paste, you may get close to removing its effects.
Otherwise, I do not know of a way of removing it without also undoing all your post Sepia Tone changes.
Maybe someone else knows a way.

I would connect each device to a power source, and then reset them by holding the power button and the home button until they turn off.
If it keeps happening, I would put the devices in recovery mode and restore them with iTunes.

Separating home and boot into separate partitions after installation

Hi,
is it possible to separate home and boot folders into different partitions for an already complete arch installation without re-installing? And if so, is it a good idea?
I also would like to upgrade from ext2 file system to ext4. It would be great though if I could keep my current arch-linux installation.
I know that the file system upgrade is possible (although not without risk), but I'm not sure about the partitioning.
I guess creating new partition, mounting it with fstab and simply copying the content of boot folder from my root partition would not be sufficient, but I could be wrong.
I know I can't run pacstrap script, because it would delete my current folders (except home). So is there other way?

2Head_on_a_Stick: I don't know why, but it didn't work. Is the partition supposed to have the folder boot in it or just the files inside the boot folder? Nevertheless I tried both and each failed. I suppose I made a mistake in fstab file.

I got this from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fstab and yes I did change the UUID accordingly. The partition was formated to fat32.
I'll try the home partition now. Hope it will go better.
