Openzone and fon

I was getting openzone and fon perfectly whenever I logged on about a month ago. A few weeks ago I changed to BT infinitywhich came with a new hub.
When I tried openzone and fon recently, I noticed what I think was an exclamation mark (black line on yellow shape) was permanently on the icon you click to get connected in the wireless network box. I clicked on the icon and it said connected - excellent, still with the exclamation mark. At the top of that box it said connected to bt openzone 3- no internet access. I then went to my browser and entered the full address for btopenzone. It could not connect and I cannot get a login page. I have tried many times throughout the day but it never works. I have opted out of fon and re-registered.
I have managed to get connected on my phone but when I try to access an internet page with i,t the web page is always unavailable. Can anyone help please?

Have you tried restarting the home hub 3?

  • BT Home Hub 2-287C and BT Openzone/BT Fon

    This is my first  posting.
My home hub has recently been intermittently "taken over" by BT Openzone.
I have followed  instructions from the Openzone homepage, later from BT Broadband Desktop Help, and later BT Broadband telephone help line. They all help temporarily, then I get "taken over" again.
Can anyone help me get rid of this nuisance? I use an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop running Vista Home Premium.

You say that opt out can take a while - that gives me some hope, albeit I never opted in in the first place!
I get the feeling I am connecting to a neighbour's Fon because sometimes there is a "battle" where it seems it could go either way.
I have repeatedly given my hub priority in wireless settings and/or removed Openzone and Fon, but sometimes they reappear before I've even left that window.
When I do land on Fon, it is only when I go to IE from the ikons. It never happens while I am online via my usual homepage (BT Yahoo).
Any further thoughts would be welcome.

  • Cannot access Openzone or Fon sign-on page

I have BT Infinity Option 2 and am opted-in to the BT Fon community (I have checked this) and I want to use Openzone/Fon on an upcoming trip so tried testing it here at home.
I can see both Openzone and Fon on my list of available networks, and can connect to both with a strong signal (probably from my own HH3!).  However, neither option gives me Internet access so I am unable to load the Openzone login page to enter my BTInternet username and password.  I'm guessing it's lack of these that is causing the lack of Internet access, but that's a chicken & egg situation!
I'm sure my hub's internet connection is not maxed out because the only other computer using it in the house is the one I'm typing this on, and I'm not downloading anything.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Using Win 7 32-bit, IE9 on a laptop (which works fine with my normal BT Infinity connection)
Hubby has also tried on a Linux netbook, with the same problem.

Nah, I doubt it's BTNP blocking as other forum users have other AV installed and they still can't connect.
If I'm honest, I'd have to say that the bug on the HH2 has now made it into the HH3
[BT to insert a comment at this point?]
If you really want to, a factory reset of your HH3 would prove this, though you lose any user changes to the hubs set up.

  • How do I start using BT Openzone and BT. FON ?

    Hi there all,
I have a BT Internet email address and BT home broadband.
Can someone please let me know how I can register for BT Openzone and BT. FON so I can start using the service on my mobile phone when I am out and about ?
Thank you for any help and advise.

Yes you would have to use his details.
It may be that he uses a sub account for e-mail, as its not really a good idea to use the primary account, as it cannot easily be changed, should it get too much spam mail.
If you have a mobile phone which has a BT FON application for it, then he can enter the details for you, and the password would be hidden.
He would still have to do the initial registration.

  • Iphone 3gs and openzone and bt fon

    a very good evening,
i have just got a iphone 3gs with orange, they seem to think that i cannot log onto BT fon,
only BY openzone, true or not please. hving spoken to the orange help desk today they are sure that
openzone is ok but fon is not ok i thought from the forums that i could do both, help please
    julian

Im not an i phone user [HTC Desire], so I am making some assumptions about i phone functionality here.
First, your 'into Fon' is pretty quick, but it takes 24hrs ish for your hub to be updated - with a fair wind that it, and we have had some issues with Fon and hubs on here these last few weeks
    Assuming you've joined Fon, and that your hub is Fon activated, having had a long  time with this issue I would say;
Firstly, do not muck about with the BT Fon app. just yet.  Simply see what wi fi connectivity is available from the device.  You should see your own BT hub serial key code and BTOpenzone [or Fon - but probably the former] as well.  Whether [at first] on your own hub or elsewhere, just hook your device up to Fon landing page, and sign in a BTBB customer [very important detail].  You sign in using your primary BT e mail username and password.
But there are dragons, some hubs are not giving out a Fon signature.  Sign in is case sensitive, watch out for any auto capitalization etc.
It should be simple.  Once you've got a Fon enabled hub and managed to sign in, then go to the BT Fon app., and once you installed in on your device ensure that you check the username and password that will come as soon as the download to your device is complete.  Dont assume that because it is complete on your device it will be complete on the Fon app. You dont need the Fon app. to sign in though, it has to be said.
If you are a BTBB customer you can log into BTOZ and Fon, with the proviso's I've put above, and as doubtless some of the other 'Fon victims' may also add to this thread on the forum  Orange have mis-informed you.
Come back if you need any more steer on this.
    Hope that helps

I have a BT business line (BT Business Total Broadband Option 2) and so have an @btconnect.com email address...

Thanks for the number - i spoke to them and sorted it out.  To clarify for others who may be having the problem...
Business customers can use BT Openzone/BT FON if you speak to them on the number above and receive your voucher for it.
However, the iPhone app will not work for you (it will only accept an @btinternet.com login) - you must log in to OZ using the credentials they send you.  (although the guy I spoke did say an OZ app was in the works which would take all OZ logins).
    Thanks for the help!

I had an online chat with a BT Broadband help person, who said she wasn't trained on Openzone and gave me a number to call, where I got a recorded message saying that the BT wi-fi network had "issues". A few hours later the problems disappeared and today everything's fine. So who knows.
Regarding Ts and Cs, if Openzone is bundled with your Total Broadband package there's no volume or time limit, you just have to log in every 30 mins if you go over 10,000 minutes in any given month.  Large files are positively encouraged: "Is there a download limit? No. Wireless broadband is perfect for uploading or downloading large files at high speed. Usage is based on time rather than data transfer amount." From https://www.btopenzone.com/help/common-questions/index.jsp#using_8  I'm downloading 50GB+ files via P2P. But perhaps the BT network sees them as lots of small files, as P2P works by chopping them into little bits.
The Openzone Fair Use policy only applies if you buy an Openzone subscription separately. In which case P2P, large files and a 3GB+ monthly volume are "inappropriate". http://www.btopenzone.com/terms-and-conditions/fair-usage-policy.jsp
DS, what did you mean by clearing the connection history? Sounds interesting. Do you mean removing the profile from the Manage Wireless Networks screen?

  • O2 free openzone and cloud access

I have yet been unable to sign into BT openzone for my free access with my o2 PAYG iPhone.
When it shows in my Wi-Fi list BT OPENZONE, I click it and when I try to load a page it takes me a BT-FON log in page which asks for a user name and password?
What is BT FON and why does it show as BT OPENZONE on my wi fi list?
    Confused...

BT-Fon sites are in the main Private BT Home Hub devices that are available from BT and have a separate Wifi module enabled as an Open Wifi hot spot.
These allow LEGAL sharing of your bandwidth and owners of these devices have the benefit of accessing the global Fon Wifi networks around the world for free.
If you have a BT Openzone subscription you can also access BT-Fon hot spots.
Your O2 Pay-As-You- Go gives you "free" Wifi access for the first twelve months but after that you have to pay £10.00 per month for access.
Your log in will be your mobile phone number and a cryptic password.
You will have to phone O2 help line to get/have reset your password if you don't know it BEFORE you can setup Wifi access on BTOpenzone/BT-Fon or at the Cloud sites. They will send you an SMS with the password.
With the password known the login procedure is to press settings on the iphone navigate to Wi-fi switch on allow phone to scan for open networks.
Find one that says BT Openzone , BT-Fon or The Cloud.
Select and your phone will attempt to connect (This can actually take some time ) and when it does you then need to log in before you can navigate the wider interwebs.
If its an official BTopenzone site when you open safari you will see a Welcome window with four icons O2 Tesco Mobile Orange and Vodafone AND a login or choose other provder button.
Press the O2 button Enter your Mobile number and password and await connection.
Oh and don't expect lightning speeds it might be faster than 3g but likely not by much -Typically you will expect 350-750 meg at most.

  • Openzone and BT Fon

BT it seems is a terrific technical and innovation organisation but communication with BT is so complex. Kafkaesque is a good word for describing the bureaucracy. Or maybe I just can see the obvious.
In any case, I am keen to use BT broadband while at work where I can pick up an openzone signal. It is strightforward to connect and the connection works well. The point is that I cannot tell exactly what I am using; BT Fon, BT openzone or BT total broadband and what this means.
When I connect and start internet explorer a page come up asking me to log in with one of those three options. I tried to connect to BT Fon because I know that that is free of charge but without success. I have successfully connected with BT total broadband. Now does this mean that my online minutes are being used up? I imagine that had connected with openzone that would be the case. I don't mind! But, if so, I would like to know how many minutes I have used, I can't find this out.
I will be doing "online marking" in a few days and want to know if I need to pay for access but if there is no need and I have successfully connected with a free service that's even better.
Am I being stupid, I wanted to write and email to someone who knows about this but cannot find an address.
    Please advise me somebody.

Chomsky would have something to say about the communication as well
    For Option 3 customers:-
BT Fon is free-unlimited. You have to sign up to use it.
    BTOZ is 500 mins pcm.
If you are connecting to BTBB whilst at work (ie not your own hub) it sounds like you are connecting to an unlocked hub, or a freebie that someone has made available.
    Check you Fon status here:-
    http://www.btfon.com/
A Fon connection should show as available (without logging in).  BTOZ you have to log in on the landing page with your BT username and password.
    Hope that helps.

  • Openzone and vpn

Hi, I have account with PIA and it doesn't seem to work with bt openzone. So I was looking to see if BT provided some kind of VPN and I can see on
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14923/~/how-do-i-download-vpn-software-for-bt-wi-fi
that bt does have VPN. However when I click on the link it shows nothing about VPN. It say you're connected.
Can someone help me with why other VPN doesn't work and how I can get BT's VPN? Maybe someone has direct link?
    Many thanks

    Hi Genie,
To download the VPN software you need to be connected to a BTWifi (ie BTWifi-x, BTWifi, BTWifi-with-fon) hotspot.
However you must not be logged and go straight to http://www.btwifi.com/help/security/vpn-software.jsp and download the VPN software.
If you are logged in to the BTWifi hotspot then you will just keep getting redirected to the "Your connected" landing page.

  • BT Openzone / BT FON - terrible connection / loadi...

    Hi guys,
We have just joined BT Internet, mainly for the hotspots that BT are advertising all over the TV and Internet. Having started using the service, I have found it near impossible to use. It take an inordinate amount of time for the Internet to load the most basic website, trying to watch videos on youtube that  are between 3 - 10 minutes takes hours of buffering if not buffering completely. The connection signal I have is 2 bars, and most of the time 3 bars so am I missing something?
Any help to speed up connection would be much appreciated
    Thanks

    This is a shame
Just when we thought BTOZ/Fon had been sorted, it looks like all sorts of connectivity/sign in problems are cropping up again.
With or without the Fon app., looks like its gone pear shaped again for many.
I hope that the issue is not sign in credentials issue per se with BT via the Yahoo servers, which I suspect it might be, an accross the board sign in fundamental issue.
I'm going to flag this with the BT mothership.
