Openzone and non BT router

Having noted that a Homehub3 can be swapped for a non-BT router I am wondering what effect (if any) this may have in terms of Openzone / BTFon availability on the non-BT router (i.e. is it still available to other Openzone subscribers?). If not, then would this in turn mean that the non-BT router owner would be inhibited from using Openzone?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

you can use whatever router you want only the home hubs radiate the FON /OPENZONE signal but providing you have signed up to FON you can continue to use openzone /fon

  • Remote DVR - and Non ActionTech Router

I would like to use remote dvr feature, however I do not (and would prefer not) to use the Actiontech Router.
I have the ONT feeding my Netgear Gigbit Router over CAT5e cable. Connected ot a switch port on my router is a MOCA device to connect my COAX network to my DATA network.
Please advise on what ports need to be forwarded to the DVR box, or what needs to take place for the remote dvr features to work with a non - actiontech router.
If there router wasn't such a piece of junk (specifically the tiny NAT table, and slow throughput compared to others) than I wouldn't mind using it. I tried using it (and I play several online games) and it ALWAYS would cause me to lose internet connection after overrunning the NAT table.
I would like remote dvr feature to work if at all possible.
    Thanks,
    Grant.

Remote DVR is not supported on non-Verizon routers.
Remote DVR service works only with the Verizon supplied routers and with no changes to the original setup. Since you are using your own router and/or firewall setup we cannot enable Remote DVR on your account.
    We apologize for the inconvenience.
This is correct. The Verizon supplied router has special firmware to make the proprietary features work. I tried every port forwarding configuration I could think of. If you find a way then let everyone know. If you get it working with the Verizon router and place your own router in place of the Verizon router, the web site will see it and disable the feature. If you keep attempting to do this, the feature will go away from Verizon central all together. Do not expect tech support assistance if they get it working and you break it with your router. That is my experience. I gave up the feature.

  • BT Infinity 2 and Non BT Router

I have yet to have my service activiated. I'll get an engineer on 20th June, and to be perfectly frank I don't think I'll be sleeping for a few nights before that date......
My question is simple: is it possible to use a third party router with the Infinity 2 service?
I have been told that you HAVE to use BTs router to connect you to the exchange, however is it possible to use BTs router in pass through mode, in order that I can attach my Draytek, which manages a number of VPN connections to various places?
If this is not possible then there is no real problem, I will work around it - but I was interested to know the answer.
    Many thanks.

The HH3 sets up a pppoe connection to BT. If you want to replace that then the draytek has to set up a pppoe connection instead. If you want to use the HH3 you can put the draytek in the DMZ.

  • Can I Use Airport Express for Airplay and a non-apple router with streaming capabilities on the same network?

I want to do the following things but can't find one device that fits all purpose.
Wi-Fi router that has USB port to share external hard disk wirelessly to all devices (Mac, Samsung Smart TV, PC, Ipad, Iphone) along with inbuilt torrent download capability that also has a 3.5mm jack to do airplay.
Greedy? Yes I know but why can't we have it all I ask.
Airport Express severs Wifi Router + Airplay purpose
Then there are other non-apple routers in market that satisfy my need to attach external hard disk and stream to the devices mentioned (Note: Timecapsule will not stream to my Smart TV)
So I am thinking why not connect both Airport Express and a second non-apple router and get best of both worlds.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Route between global and non-global zones

    Hi Folks,
I haven't been able to find an answer to this question searching the archives, so I'll try here. My global zone gets her IP (10.153.197.n) via DHCP, and I've had to use 192.168.1.n addresses for the non global zones. Is there a simple route statement I can issue to allow communication between the global and non global zones? I'm running Solaris 10 x86 03/2005.
    Thanks very much,
    -Adam vonNieda

If you're only interested in passing traffic between the global zone and the non-global zones, just add a virtual interface to the global zone.
For example, in the global zone:
    ifconfig ce0:4 plumb 192.168.1.x netmask + broadcast + up
Then you will be able to pass traffic between the global and non-global zones.
If you're looking for the global zone to proxy traffic between the non-global zones and the rest of the network, take a look at http://balance.sf.net

  • Chargeable Components and Non-Chargeable Components in Routing

    Dear Experts
I am investigating about relationship of Routing and Chargeable Components, Non-Chargeable Components.
Is it possible that one routing has Chargeable Components and Non-Chargeable Components in its task?
    Below is instance.
This routing is to manufacture laptop.
    10: assemble1       Chargeable Components
    20: assemble2       self-manufacture
    30: quiality check   self-manufacture
    40: coating             Non-Chargeable Components
    50: packaging        self-manufacture
If this is possible, please give the information about config and master setting.
Or should I divide the task like below?
    To make  halfway laptop
    10: assemble1      Chargeable Components
    To make laptop without packaging
    10: assemble2      self-manufacture
    20: quiality check  self-manufacture
    To make laptop with coating
    10: coating            Non-Chargeable Components
    To make completely laptop
    10: packaging       self-manufacture
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
    You can use this Routing
    Below is instance.
This routing is to manufacture laptop.
    10: assemble1 Chargeable Components
    20: assemble2 self-manufacture
    30: quiality check self-manufacture
    40: coating Non-Chargeable Components
    50: packaging self-manufacture
But in THIS Routing , if you check you have the Assembly indicator tick against the operation 10 and 20
If you click over there ,it will go the  the assembly Routing for this 10 and 20 operation, since you mentioned as assembly. so the component that you assigned for this operaions are assembly components.

  • How do I use the new Airport Express as an extender for a non-Apple router?

We have an "Arris" router in our house and are thinking of buying an Airport Express to extend the internet. How can we use the Airport express as a repeater on a non-Apple router without having to use millions of ethernet cables?

Apple designed their "extend a wireless network" to only work with other Apple routers wirelessly, so it would be extremely unlikely like it would work with an Arris wireless router.
Your best bet is to always use products from the same manufacturer if you need this type of feature on your network to insure compatibility.
If Arris does not offer a product for this purpose, a "universal" extender like the Netgear device linked below might be able to do what you want. It was not "universal" enough to extend an Apple network when I tested a device recently.
Universal WiFi Range Extender (WN3000RP) - Netgear

  • Can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

Yes, if the AirPort Express is set up to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name as the other router and the same wireless network password as the other router.

  • Can TC extend a non-apple router via wireless?

I believe this ground has been covered by prior questions, but I just need to confirm before giving up hope.
Can the Apple TC extend a wireless network that eminantes from a non-Apple router (in my case, UBee, Time Warner Cable)?
Our cable modem enters the living room, where it is plugged via ethernet cord to the UBee router. The range just barely reaches my upstairs office. In a perfect work, I'd like to keep the TC in the upstairs office so that I can a) share our USB printer, and b) extend our network to the second floor.
Is this possible? I get the sense that it's not.
    Thanks for all your help,
    Mike

Not possible except with WDS.. which means far too many compromises.. wep security, G only wireless.. and a very good chance it won't work anyway.
Use EOP adapters and setup the TC as a WAP and switch.. or run ethernet .. they are the best ways.
Turn off the wireless on the cable router.. and plug an extreme or express into it.. TC can then extend wireless.
Again this is not the best solution but is the one apple's bottom line really likes.. which is why the limitation is there.

  • Does Airport Express really communicate the same speed to both Mac and non-Mac devices?

Okay, so to fully understand my situation, here's a briefing: Our old Netgear router was not pushing nearly the speeds we were paying for (we pay for 30 and were getting 10-15 max, usually much less). I recently got an iMac which means that all of my devices are now Apple made, so I decided to get an Airport Express to hopefully improve our wireless speeds. I set it up with the modem going in the WAN port and the old router attached to the LAN port so that it could still act as an ethernet hub for the few hard-wired devices knocking around. I set up both a network and a guest network, with our original one still active through the Netgear router.
I get 45 Mbps from the new network on my iMac, but my roommate is only getting around 9. If he connects to the old one, he caps out at about 25. Is the wireless card in his PC just not capable of receiving more than that? He insists that since it's an Apple router it is not as compatable with non-Apple products. Interestingly, I get faster speeds on my iPhone from the guest network than I can from either the new or old main networks in our house.
I know this is a really long question, but has anyone had this same problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also: isn't the wireless speed of the old Netgear router still basically being pushed through the Airport Express, as it's the only thing connected directly to the modem? Are there any settings I can change to make everything run smoothly? If the PC, Android phones, etc can connect to the new network at the same speed as my Apple products, then we can eliminate the old network altogether if that will help.

I think I answered my own question. I found this on the web:
    http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
Seems to suggest that using this third party exe to format it instead of windows inbuilt one will allow for partitions greater than 32GB. So this looks the way to go. And the 2GB limit per file is just for FAT16 not FAT32 apparently, but even if it is I only have a few iso/video files bigger than 2 gig so will just use a splitter on them.
Hope this is useful to someone else

  • Changes to applications and gaming have no effect on WRT54Gv2.2 and restarting breaks routing

If I power off my router and power it back on, nothing on my network can get out and none of the port forwarding works.
If I log into the router and use diagnostics to ping stuff outside my network it works just fine, but nothing on my network works any longer.
Also, even when it is working, making changes to the applications and gaming page has no effect.  Old entries on that page still forward to where they did before I made the changes, even though the router will show them going to the new place I told it to go to.  This is extremely frustrating because I eventually try restarting my router which gives the problem I mentioned above that I can no longer use the internet at all from any machine on my network even though my router is connected properly to the internet.
The way I fix this is by loading an old configuration file and then loading back one with my current settings.  This also doesn't always work and it takes a lot of trial and error to get it back to normal.  This has been happening ever since I last upgraded the firmware, which I had to upgrade because automatically updating DynDNS was no longer working.  I can't find the old firmware anywhere on linksys' site so that I could test if it's a bug in the firmware.  This is my last resort before I buy a new router as it's driving me insane.

Thank you ricewind, I installed a slightly earlier verson of the firmware and it appears to be working properly for the moment.  If the problem doesn't come back I'll report back that it's probably a bug in the version of the firmware I was using (which was WRT54GV4.0_4.21.1_US_code.bin)
    Thanks again

  • Unicode and Non-Unicode Instances in one Transport Landscape

We have a 4.7 landscape that includes a shared global development system supporting two regional landscapes.  The shared global development system is used for all ABAP/Workbench activity and for global customization used by both regional production systems.  The two regional landscapes include primarily three instances - Regional Configuration, Quality Assurance, and Production.  The transport landscape includes all systems with transport routes for global and regional.
A conversion to unicode is also being planned for the global development and one regional landscape.  It is possible that we will not convert the other regional landscape due to pending discussions on consolidation.  This means one of the regional landscapes will be receiving global transports from a unicode-based system.
All information I've located implies no actual technical constraints.  Make sure you have the right R3trans versions, don't use non-Latin_1 languages, etc.  Basic caveats for a heterogenous environment ....
Is anyone currently supporting a complete, productive landscape that includes unicode and non-unicode systems?   If so, any issues or problems encountered with transports across the systems?  (insignificant or significant)
Information on actual experiences will be greatly appreciated ....
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Laura,
Although i do not have the live / practical experience, but this is what i can share.
I have been working on a Non-Unicode to Unicode conversion project. While we were in the discussion phase there was one such possibility of a scenario that part of the landscapes would remain non-unicode. So based on the research i did by reading and directly interacting with some excellent SPA consultants, i came to know there are absolutely no issues in transporting ABAP programs from a Unicode system to non-unicode system. In a Unicode system the ABAP code has already been checked and rectified for higher syntax checks and these are downward compatible with the ABAP code on lower ABAP versions and non-unicode systems. Hence i beleive there should not be any issues, however as i mentioned this is not from practical experience.
    Thanks.

  • Best non-BT Router for BT Vision Use

Just a question thats been going through my head...
Was the best Non-BT Router (Not HomeHub etc...) for giving a decent connection for BT Vision use??
Im guessing it would have to support this QOS thingy..
has anyone had any positive experiences using a Non BT Router over a longish line while not getting any BT Vision C01/V04 Errors??
    JC

same as above I have used both netgear and Dlink routers with bt vision without any problems and have used a netgear router configured as an Ethernet switch (asdl and dhcp turned off ) connected to the homehub to extend the number of ports available.
i am using a white homehub at the moment simply because i want to use the hub phone
