Openzone Signal Repeating

Currently working away from home and as luck would have it there is a weak Openzone signal down the road. If the atmospherics are good I can get onto this otherwise I need a signal repeater in one of my front windows.
Question - will the signal repeat?
Question - any equipment recommendations?

Currently trying to repeat using a hawking HWREG1 but failing miserably - suspect some issue with mac addresses

what signal repeater works best with the airport exreme?

Another AirPort Extreme would be "best", but if all that you really need to do is extend the WiFi signal wirelessly, an AirPort Express would do this nicely.
If you do not have a means to back up your Mac, a Time Capsule can both extend the WiFi signal and handle the backups from your Mac(s). Click on the link below for more information on the three options that you have:

  • Anyone tried a Mobile Phone Signal Repeater

I am on t-mobile (in the UK) and have poor indoor reception (its not great outdoors either) I have tried the various fixes suggested by others to no avail. I read that a signal booster at 2100MHz with an outdoor aerial and in house amplifier/transmitter may help. I know very little techy stuff only that my phone has difficulty making calls. Does anyone have experience of this type of product?

The Wilson products are going to be your best choice for home 4G repeaters.  They tend to be a little more expensive than the competitors but there really aren't very many to pick from.  You could browse around  3Gstore.com to see if they have anything else to offer that fits your needs and budget.

  • Can anyone recommend a quality 4G signal repeater?

I have poor service in my house and acceptable service outside. There is no high speed internet access available at my home so I can not use the network extender offered by Verizon.
I am reasonably tech savvy and could select my own, but I was hoping someone in the Verizon community could share their experience with signal repeaters to help me along.
I have been looking into a few options offered by Wilson Electronics.
It looks like their top of the line might be more than I need. I only plan to boost the Verizon signal in my area and I believe it also boosts frequencies that I won't need.
    Thanks!

  • BT Fon and BT Openzone FAQ's still incorrect

    Dear BT,
I refer to my post made on the 12/08/2010 - http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Out-About/Why-does-the-BTHH-transmit-the-Openzone-signal/m-p/37318#M22...
"The BT Openzone website will now be updated (when - unknown) to include the BT Home hub as a BT Openzone location as this is not clearly shown on the BT Openzone website at present".
But the BTFon FAQ still states -
"What’s the difference between a BT Openzone hotspot and a BT FON hotspot?
There's no difference to you when using the hotspots.
However, they're located in different types of places. BT FON hotspots are the Wi-Fi signals from BT Home Hubs owned by other members of the BT FON community. This means that individual BT FON hotspots may not be available in the future, because a customer may opt out of the service, or temporarily switch off their Hub.
BT Openzone is a premium wireless service, with hotspots in airports, hotels, stations and businesses around the UK. BT Total Broadband customers who are members of BT FON can access BT Openzone hotspots as well as BT FON hotspots. You can see the exact locations of BT Openzone hotspots using the map at www.btopenzone.com. BT FON vouchers bought by non-members are only valid at BT FON hotspots, and can't be used on the BT Openzone network".
and this is on the BTOpenzone site -
    "What is BT Openzone?
BT Openzone is a wireless broadband (Wi-Fi) service that you can access in public places (hotspots) such as airports, hotels, coffee shops, motorway service stations and city centres. Get online at BT Openzone hotspots throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and at selected locations outside the UK".
Is it not time to correct this?

  • BT Openzone Connection Issues

    Hello,
I am currently away from home and will be until well after the New Year. Where I currently am there are 2 openzones and 1 BTFON spots to connect to. Firstly connecting to this on my laptop was fine. However I could never get the iphone app to work which is not the issue I am currently trying to solve.
At first 1 of the openzones and one of the FON spots have the same signal strength so I am assuming they are broadcasting form the same location? I connect to this fine the first time with my login details as I am a BT infinity customer and away I go. However shortly after the connection times out (15 minutes is all it takes are you serious I go away to grab a coffee and this!?).
So the connection timed out I can log back in simple? Not that easy now both these two spots display "Web page unavailable errors" In both Internet explorer and Google chrome.
So I connect to the last remaining openzone (which has a low signal strength making it very temperamental) And after scanning the internet for ideas I try a few ideas such as not saving the networks, Removing all the information from my network and sharing centre and flushing the DNS in command prompt.
None of these bring them back online? And now the last remaining BT openzone shows the same error?
Is this a service I should opt out of because it is very limiting and restricting? Or is this a common problem that’s easy to fix and there is something i'm missing?
Thanks for all help in advance.

  • BT Fon / BT Openzone connection issues

Hi, I have BT broadband and with that I believe I get access to the BT hotspots. I've registered my details on the BT FON website to make sure and it confirms. However if I'm out and about and my phone pics up an openzone hotspot it connects to it but doesn't log in. I open the BT FON app and it gets to the stage where it says 'checking login status...' it stays on this page and doesn't log in. I've checked and my details are correct so why can I not log in to any of these hotspots. I may get 1, once in a blue moon but in general they do not connect. Any ideas as to why? What makes it more annoying is that I end up having to turn my wifi off so I don't keep connecting to hotspots that don't work and then turn it on again when I get home.

  • Indoor repeater for cisco 1300

    Hello,
We have an outdoor wireless network working with two cisco 1300. One acts as a access point and the other one as a bridge.
We would like to extend the coverage of the bridge... Is that possible? There's one spot inside where signal quality is 80% good and where we could put an indoor signal repeater.
What cisco product could we purchase to do that ? (if possible...)
    Thanks,

  • Poor wifi signal

My New Macbook air has very poor wifi signal, I have to sit within feet of my router to have a usable connection, I cannot even use it in the next room.
Does anybody else have this problem, and would purchasing a antenna booster or signal repeater do the job?

    Here are some troubleshooting suggestions:

  • Improve wifi signal?

I live in a shared apartment. The router is placed in the hall and my room is across it on the inside. If I step out of the room, I get full signal, but inside the room I get two bars. I don't have a laptop or PC. I want to know how can I improve my signal strength? Will a signal repeater come in handy? Is there any signal booster? Or do I need to add a router to the connection.. Thanks.

How is the router located in the hall - on a shelf? Position it as high as you can. Sometimes the router signal is somewhat directional. Experiment by turning the router to different positions.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • False BT Openzones?

Hi I was wondering if someone could please shed some light... appologies if this has already been answered, but i can't find the right answer.
As I walk around I see many SSID's called BTOpenzone, I am on an Orange iPhone so have Openzone access that way, I am also a Business and Residential BT customer so should have access to ALL Openzone and Fon hotspots.
So when in places like Starbucks I am able to access the BTOpenzone, however there are many BTOpenzones that I am able to connect to get full wifi signal strength but still not able to get internet or even a login page, just a no internet warning.
I have also noticed that our BT Hub is broadcasting a BTOpenzone SSID which I can't seem to access either, is this the same issue, are people unwittingly broadcasting false Openzone ID's?
    Thanks in advance. B

    Hi wyndham and welcome
You do indeed have access to ANY BTOpenzone location. However if you're using your Orange wifi allocation/log in details then you can only connect to 'Premium' BTOpenzone Hotspots (I won't quote the official BTOpenzone website as it's wrong and will be altered at some point). These locations are as you've found are for example Starbucks.
When you're walking around and seeing many BTOpenzone SSID's, they are not false. They are all emitting the BTOpenzone SSID. The problem is that you need to connect to these using your BT primary email log in details and not your Orange details.
The reasons for seeing your own hub but not being able to use the internet are mentioned by myself (plus other info) here -

  • Openzone, Mac OS x and PS3

I am a BT Total Broadband customer and have the free BT Openzone minutes. Got a really strong Openzone signal in my city apartment.
I can get the Macbook to find the Openzone and tick the box. But then Safari or Firefox won't take me to the load page to put in the username and password? Am I doing something obviously wrong? My Vodafone 3G dongle works fine when plugged into the Mac.
Also I haven't tried this yet, but is it possible to get Openzone to work on the PS3 so that I can access iPlayer and C4OD?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am doing a fair bit of head scratching over this one!

    Hi 6stringhero,
Welcome to the forum.  By the sound of it you are doing everything correct.
Once you connect to the Hoptspot and load your preferred Internet browser you should be directed to the BT Openzone landing page.  This doesn't appear to happen in this case.
Can I ask to follow the same process by connecting to the hotspot, once you have successfully connected, open a Internet browser session.  Type in the following web address https://www.btopenzone.com:8443
This should take you to the landing page whereby you can enter your login details.  Let me know if this helps?

  • Openzone and non BT router

Having noted that a Homehub3 can be swapped for a non-BT router I am wondering what effect (if any) this may have in terms of Openzone / BTFon availability on the non-BT router (i.e. is it still available to other Openzone subscribers?). If not, then would this in turn mean that the non-BT router owner would be inhibited from using Openzone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

you can use whatever router you want only the home hubs radiate the FON /OPENZONE signal but providing you have signed up to FON you can continue to use openzone /fon

  • How to generate GPS signal continuous

    Hi,
I encountered a problem recently and I need your help. A customer used a PXI-5671 to generate GPS signals to test a receiver. The problem was like this:
    1) When we used actual GPS signals instead of simulated signals generated from the PXI-5671, the receiver functioned normally.
    2) When we streamed bin file to generate signals repeatedly using the PXI-5671, the receiver could receive correctly for the first time, while at the rest of it the receiver couldn't receive the signals nor display how many satellites there were and what the signal strengths were.
I supposed, that this was due to the reason that the timestamp for the second time was earlier than that at previous time. How do we generate GPS signals continuously with the timestamps updated?

    Hi,
When you stram from a bin file repeatedly, it will run first time but will lose lock because when it comes tothe beginning of the file, its time suddenly jumps and the receiver does not accept this. For example, lets say your bin file is from GPS time t1=0 to GPS time t2=30000s. When you loop back around the file, the time increases from 0 to 30000 and then jumps back to 0 and that is not acceptable by receiver. You will need a direct streaming from 5671.
I can put that up for you soon if you want.
