Opera font sizes

Ok, I haven't seen anything with regards to this in the forums, so hopefully I haven't missed a completely obvious answer.
I have some strange differences in font sizes between firefox and opera.  Some fonts tend to show up notably smaller in opera than they do in firefox.  As an example, the login to gmail (username and password fields) and the actual font size after logged in to gmail itself are tiny compared to firefox.  I even forced the dpi to 96 in local.conf, which didn't change anything in firefox, but bumped up all font sizes in opera which is equally bad.  I have screenshots below of the login so you can see what I mean.
firefox:
opera (no local.conf dpi set):
opera (local.conf dpi set to 96):
I've also compared the two under windows as well and the same differences don't seem to exist, so I guess it's just a linux issue with opera.  Anyone know why there is such a difference or if there's a way to make the font sizes approximate those in firefox?  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried playing around with opera's dpi setting, it didn't fix the problem.  Even deleting the .opera directory and starting fresh, changing that setting only changed the menu, tab, location bar fonts with no effect on any web site font.
Of all the font settings I changed in the gui, the only one that had an effect was the ones dealing with all normal fonts which made things bigger or smaller even for fonts that were just fine.
In my attempts to work this out, I did find that disabling antialiasing resulted in the font size being similar to firefox, but the fonts in general were pretty ugly.
It seems like it's an all or nothing game.   :?

  • How can I increase the font size (Macbook)?

I just bought the MacAir 13.3" migrating from a Tosh 13.3" - I researched the font size issue online and called Apple Support. Funny, you must supply them with the serial number to log the call, but I couldn't read it. There doesn't seem to be a satisfactory answer. I can probably get by with the browser by CTL/opt+, but email is a drag and changing the screen resolution just makes it blurry. I do music recording and so I need to have better control of font sizes in particular, as provided by Windows. If there's not a good solution, preferably supported by Apple, then there is a Samsung 15" Series 9 that weighs 3.6lbs with my name on it at half the price.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I went through those options with Apple support to no avail. The apple display system seems to be locked into whatever screen it is formatted for. At lower resoultions the screen becomes blurry which is even worse. No problems, I'm packing it up as we speak (typing this on the old windows laptop) and it's going back. • CR XI R2 pdf export font size issue

Exporting a report to PDF using Crystal XI R2 seems to be reducing the size of the fonts. When printing directly from CR and exporting to PDF and printing from the PDF viewer the font sizes are smaller. Any ideas on what I can do to correct the problem?

    Please refer following SAP note:

1220516 - Font size decreases when report is exported to PDF from Crystal Reports XI or Crystal Reports XI Release 2

Content:    Summary   |   Header Data   |   Other Properties
    Symptom
In Crystal Reports XI and Crystal Reports XI Release 2 the font shrinks by approximately 10% when a report is exported to Adobe Acrobat Format (PDF).
    Cause
This behavior is due to the way Windows and UNIX, and therefore Crystal Reports, handles low point size fonts on a low-resolution screen. Text layout in the absence of a printer driver will consistently be rendered differently than in PDF.
Crystal Reports currently shrinks the font by 10% to prevent any truncation this difference may cause.
    Resolution
CAUTION The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry. For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
    To resolve the behavior
Set the resolution of the default printer of the local computer experiencing the issue to 1200 DPI. Most printers have a default setting of 600 DPI.
Create two registry keys to prevent the crxf_pdf.dll from decreasing in font size.
Click Start > Run. Type "regedit". The Registry Editor appears.
Create the following keys for Crystal Reports XI with the defined values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
Set both registry key values to 1 to turn them on.
Create the following keys for Crystal Reports XI Release 2 with the defined values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal eports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
Set both registry key values to 1 to turn them on.
In UNIX, an X server client such as x-win32 must be installed. Add the keys as follows:
    Launch the X server client.
    Source <bobje install>/bobje/setup using env.sh (for example: ./env.sh).
Create the registry keys as detailed above.
Restart the Report Page and Cache Servers.
    ====================
    NOTES:
If using Windows 2003 Server, upgrade to Acrobat Reader version 8.0 or higher as well as creating the above registry keys.
Use the appropriate path to access the UNIX regedit as follows:
    AIX: <bobje install>/bobje/enterprise115/aix_rs6000/crpe/mw/bin-aix4_optimized/regedit
    Sun Solaris: <bobje install>/bobje/enterprise115/solaris_sparc/crpe/mw/bin-sunos5_optimized/regedit

  • Change Font Size in a Field

Hi - I am typing information into a Adobe document which was created by another user.  I would like to change the font size for the field so the complete entry can be viewed.  I have Adobe Acrobat Standard version 9 and my operating systems is Windows.
Thanks so much for your help with this

You have to go to the form edit mode. Check the properties (ctrl-D) to see if you are allowed to edit first.
If so, try the forms menu>edit fields. Right click on the field and select properties. The is often an auto mode that will let the font size adjust if you run out of room.
If you can not do the edit just suggested, then the form was likely created in Designer and you will have to select to edit the form with Designer to make the change.

  • Font Size from Desktop 4.1 to 4.1.4 is Too Small--can it be changed.

I notice that when I upgraded from Desktop 4.1 to Desktop 4.1.4 that the font size for memos, calendar, contacts, .etc is considerably smaller than it was in DT 4.1.
I've seen some posts here that seem to suggest that there is NO way to change the font size of Palm Desktop for the Palm III class of PDA's.
I suppose Palm thought they were doing us a favor by decreasing the font size and allowing more viewable text on screen BUT actually it's just another source of eye strain.
Anyone found a work around for this before I roll back to Desktop 4.1?--'cause I'm sure not about to change my system default font size or resolution to accommodate this new "feature".

My iPhone 5 recently went to OS7.1.1.  I don't know what happened but the size of the text in my received emails just got smaller to the point of where I can hardly read them.
How do I change this or how to I go back to the previous version?

Thank you but I got that figured out. The issues is in that the text from incoming Emails are so small  it is difficult to read. If you increase the font size using what you suggested, incoming is easier to read but when you compose a new email it is like getting far fewer words on the screen because the text is so large.

  • HT5661 I just dowloaded iOS7 to my phone. Unfortunately, it does not allow me to increase my font size beyond 12 or 13 size. Is there a way to get a bigger font size?

Any ideas regarding the font size challenge with the new iOS7 program? On my old phone I could set my font size to 14 or bigger. Doing so allows me to read my text without having to use my classes.

To help you in the meantime, did you realise that you can filter the Stored Procedures and Tables that appear in Object Explorer?  if you right click on these nodes in Object Explorer and select Filter | Filter Settings, you can create a filter to limit
the list of Stored Procedures and Tables that appear in their respective lists.
    Example 1
If you were looking for a stored procedure called usp_HardToFind, you would enter the following:
    Property = Name
    Operator = Contains
Value = Hard (or dome other value you're looking for)
This would list all stored procedures with a name containing Hard
    Example 2
If you were looking for a tabled called ComplexTableName, you would enter the following:
    Property = Name
    Operator = Contains
Value = Complex (or dome other value you're looking for)
This would list all tables with a name containing Complex
I know it's not the same as being able to change font sizes however it may still assist you

  • How is the font size calculated in pixel sized documents?

    Hello to all,
I am working with Illustrator CS4 on a web design. In the document setup, I set the size to 1000*1600 pixels. Then, I tried to add some text in font size 12 pt. The font appears *very* small. My objective was to use the same font size settings in my Illustrator file as I will later do in the HTML/CSS coding. How do I get Illustrator to scale the fonts in the same way as the browser does - i.e. a 12 pt text in the browser has the same size as a 12 pt text in Illustrator? Infact, I am looking for a setting where I can define the resolution of text size calculation.
    Best regards
    Joerg

Illustrator is a print-oriented, object-based vector drawing program, not a web-oriented, pixel-based raster painting program.
Illustrator's ruler is designed to represent real-world measure, not counts of pixels.
A pixel is not a measure. Pixels have no real-world measure.
Therefore, when Illustrator's ruler pretends to represent "pixels," it has to assign some real-world scale to them. It defaults to the measure of a point. A point is a real-world measure.
Similarly, a computer's operating system has to decide how many screen pixels it will use to represent a real-world measure at 100% zoom.
Mac OS defaults to using 1 pixel to represent 1 point. (72 PPI)
Windows and web browsers default to using 1.33 pixels to represent 1 point. (96 PPI)
So tell a browser to display 12 point type, and it will use 16 pixels to do that.
Given Illustrator's default that 1 pixel measures 1 point at 100%, Illustrator uses about 9 pixels to render the cap height of 12 point Verdana.
GIven the browsers' default that 1 point renders to 1.3 pixels, the browser uses about 12 pixels to render the cap height of 12 point Verdana.
So given that Illustrator and the browser are going to use different numbers of pixels to rasterize 12 point type, how do you get a browser to use the same number of pixels to render 12 point Verdana as Illustrator does? Simple: Specify the type size in the HTML code by pixels, not by points. This is a screenshot of Internet Explorer on Windows displaying a web page which contains:
A raster image of 12 point Verdana exported from Illustrator, using its default 72 PPI rasterization
Live 12 pixel Verdana HTML text.
Live 12 point Verdana HTML text.
Inversely, there are other ways to work around Illustrator's 72 PPI default when you want to rasterize Illustrator type so that it looks the same as the same-point-size text in HTML.
When using Save For Web & Devices, specifiy 133% instead of the default 100%.
Scale the artwork to 133% before exporting via Save For Web & Devices using the default 100%
When rasterizing, rasterize to 96 PPI instead of 72 PPI. (1.33 as many pixels)
When exporting, export to 96 PPI instead of 72 PPI. (1.33 as many pixels)
Or, do what I do: Get a decent screenshot utility. When I want to rasterize something from Illustrator that contains text that I want to appear online at the same scale that it appears to me when working in Illustrator, I simply zoom to 133% and take a screenshot.

  • Compositing text modifications with font size modifications for undo

    Hey TLF gurus,
So here's my situation.  I have a text flow.  The user starts typing "The lazy brown dog..." and after each character is typed I'm modifying the font size of all the text to make it fit inside the container.  Here's how I'm doing that: http://aaronhardy.com/flex/size-text-to-container/ (you can right-click the app to see the source).
That all works well, but undo isn't working so well.  When I hit undo, I would like it to remove the text.  But when I call undo on the undo manager, it gets to EditManager.performUndo() where it checks to see if operation.endGeneration is different than textFlow.generation.  In my case, they aren't the same because I updated the font size after the last keystroke.  Because they're different, the undo fails.  Because I updated the font size after the last text insert, TextFlow.processModelChanged() was called and increased the text flow's generation while the insert text operation's end generation stayed the same.
Ultimately I think I want to create a composite operation that contains any text modifications with their following text auto-sizing.  Either that or I want to prevent my font auto-sizing operation from affecting the text flow generation.  Either way, I'm not sure how to go about pulling it off.  I'm sure I can make some sweet hacks but I'd really appreciate some guidance.  Thanks.
    Aaron

I'm able to successfully merge the sizing operations with the text operations.  I did it in a round-about way but afterward I found a more appropriate way: executing the ApplyFormatOperation by calling back into EditManager.doOperation when the FlowOperationEvent.FLOW_OPERATION_END event is dispatched from TextFlow (essentially making it recursive).  This way the EditManager will composite the operations.  This is described pretty well in the code and documentation of EditManager.doInternal().  I didn't test it, however.
Instead, for a couple reasons I decided not to go with that plan at all but instead went with my Plan B which was to prevent my font auto-sizing operation from affecting the text flow generation.  I essentially want the auto-sizing to occur without it going into the undo history, modifying the text flow generation, etc., etc.  I want it to go incognito.  The way I did this was to store the text flow's generation, make the font size modifications, then set the text flow's generation back to what it was before the font size was applied.  This may have some negative repercussions but for now I think it's the best approach for my needs.
Thanks for letting me talk to myself!  Feel free to add ideas.
