Operating a SG200-08 switch with case removed.

I am going to be putting an SG200-08 (8 port switch) inside a 2U rackmount chassis.
To enhance cooling I thought I would remove the outer case.
Are there, or would there be any issues with using the switch with the cover removed?
Thanks
Glen

Hi Glen, the first issue would be, the warranty is void and you're not entitled to any support. The second issue would be static electricity and environmental concerns. The third issue would likely be your property insurance.
It is highly against recommendation to alter or modify these units.

  • Timed boolean switches with case structure

    I am trying to implement a control for a switch that when toggled, turns a "key signal" on for 2 seconds, and then turns off, as soon as the key signal has been on for two seconds the VI should send say that the switch has been enabled.  I cannot get this to work how I want. I think there might be a way to do this with a state machine, but I do not know much about them.
    Solved!

    Hi,
    I changed your Boolean to latch so it would snap back to the off position.  This stops the VI from entering the on case over and over till turned off.  Then I added two shift registers to hold the indicator values.
    I guess my bias is that you would want to continue to run in the While loop, going back to the "OFF" case.   If you expand this to a state machine, you might have multiple cases, the shift registers would provide the "flag" status access to the other cases.
    This is only one method, it matches you request.  How would you fit this into a larger design?
    Copy snippet to desktop, drag onto VI.
    Did you want the keyturn to turn on for the two seconds, and then have the enabled LED turn on?   If so you have to move the location of the indicator into the time target while loop, this will allow it to turn on while the time target loop is timing two seconds.

  • Help with VLANs on SG200-18 and two SG200-08 switches

    Hi everybody. My apologies but I'm only average at best with my CISCO skills. I have simple setup running a few network devices connected via 3 CISCO switches. It's small office and there are two rooms - one with servers and one with printer and pc's. Each room has 8-port SG200-08 switch.
    Router/ firewall is Sonicwall TZ215 and it handles internal routing between VLAN's. Each SG200-08 was connected directly to TZ215 (no SG200-18 yet) and VLANs were working perfectly. Please see diagram below...
    Problems started when I added in the middle larger SG200-18 to handle extra devices. Whatever I'm doing wrong but I can't make VLANs work anymore. Something I'm not setting up correctly in SG200-18.
    Please help me to setup VLANS here - tagged, untagged, PVID, trunk........ I'm completely lost and already had to reset SG200-18 twice.
    My working setup without 18 port switch was like this.
    SG200-08 (1)
        g1  Trunk  1     1U,100T
        g2  Trunk  1     1U
        g3  Trunk  1     1U
        g4  Trunk  1     1U
        g5  Trunk  1     1U
        g6  Trunk  1     1U            SERVER3
        g7  Trunk  100   100U      SERVER1
        g8  Trunk  100   100U      SERVER2
    SG200-08 (2)
        g1  Trunk  1     1U,50T,200T
        g2  Trunk  1     1U
        g3  Trunk  1     1U
        g4  Trunk  1     1U           PC1A
        g5  Trunk  1     1U           PC1B
        g6  Trunk  50    50U        PC2A
        g7  Trunk  50    50U        PC2B
        g8  Trunk  200   200U     NETWORK PRINTER
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
    Small switches would remain untouched but 200-18 needs to have the following settings:
     g15 Trunk  1     1U,100T
     g16  Trunk  1     1U,50T,200T
     g17 Trunk  1     1U,50T,200T
     g18 Trunk   1      1U,50T,100T,200T
    Sonicwall now would have only one port connected to SG200-18 with settinngs matching port g18 on big switch.
    If you notice there is a change as now you would have only 1 port connecting your network to the Sonicwall, would advise you to use port 17 or 18 since they are uplink ports.
    If you have tried to connect two ports to big switch STP would block one of the ports.
    Let me know how it is going :-)

  • Packet-Delay and Reordering with a SG200-18-Switch

    Sometimes we see an issue that the switch delays a fragment up to one millisecond. And the delay may cause reordering...
    We are using a "SG200-18 18-Port Gigabit Smart Switch" with the following Version:
    Software Information
    Firmware Version (Active Image):    1.3.2.02

    Here is an extract from capture-files showing the issue. You see that the red-marked fragment is in order when it enters the switch. When it leaves the switch the red-marked fragment is delayed and reordered:

    We looked in the configuration of the switch but we can't find something, so we assume that it might be a bug in the switch...
    It is also remarkable that sometimes the same fragment is delayed by two  different Cisco switches in the setup; so it may be be something about  the content of the packet...
    Any suggestions, what it can be? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Jger, is this for something like a message of the day? What are you using UDP 17 for?  UDP is still best effort which the switch may not necessarily be faulted for. You may try something such as turning off spanning tree on the ports to see if that can help somehow.

  • SG200 high "Packets With Errors"

    Hi, I have a SG200-18 switch that's been in production for about 6 months. About a month ago we had a severe ice storm and everything lost power including the switch. Afterwards I started to see very high "Packets With Errors" in the interface statistics in the web gui. When looking at the Ethernet statistics, the errors are mainly "Internal MAC Receive Error" with only a few "Frame Check Sum" errors.
    Before the power outtage I was seeing about 0.035% packets with errors on the heaviest loaded interface. After the power outtage I saw 1.60% packets with errors on the same interface. Other busy interfaces saw similar raise in packets with errors. Again these errors were mainly "Internal MAC Receive Error" with only a few "Frame Check Sum" errors.
    I contacted Cisco and was told that the firmware could be corrupted and that I should update to the latest firmware version: 1.3.5.58 (I was running 1.3.0.62). I updated to the latest firmware (including updating the boot code). Verified that the md5 check sums listed on the web gui match that of the firmware files that I loaded onto the switch.
    It's been a couple days since upgrading the switch firmware and I've noticed that the packets with errors has gone down; now around 0.3% on busiest interface. Should I be concerned by this number of packets with errors? What does "Internal MAC Receive Error" even mean?
    Thank you.

    Tom,
    I've seen a similar issue on SG300 switches.
    While I haven't completely eliminatated cabling issues (I can only continuity check the cables which are ducted and perviously terminiated and the continutity check is ok) I have had an increase in "Internal MAC Receive Error" counts following upgrades to 1.3.5.58 and 1.3.7.18 firmware versions.
    In my case I have four switches connected in a star topology around a central switch and interconnected via LAG groups- three swtiches are showing error counts on some ports (a mix of LAG and single ports) and one has remained error free.
    At least one LAG group is showing "Internal MAC Receive Errors" at one end of the LAG but not the other- this isn't the behaviour I'd expect from a cable fault.
    The "Internal MAC Receive Error" counts appear to increase disproportionally when the port or LAG is under load (eg speed testing LAN connections between Ruckus AP and Zonedirector).
    Is this type of behaviour consistent with what you have seen?
    In your last posted you said:-
    "But I've also found upgrading to 1.3.5.58 there is a lot of tail error  in some situations and a factory reset and manual configuration clears  those errors entirely"
    Are you able to definie those situations any more? Is factory defaulting the switch and restoring a backup a workable sloution or should it be a completely manual restore (ie re-creating the configuration)?
    I can of course try a factory default and manual configurationre- but it will take some time and planning to implement!
    Kind Regards,
    Andy.

  • How operation (Activity No) field mandatory can be removed in Network.

    Hi,
    In CAT2  time entries screen for a person who worked on  service order,
    directly I can book time entries of the person with service order number without entry of operation (activity number) in CAT2 screen, no problem with service order case..
    But in case of CAT2  time entries screen  for a person who worked on PS network*, entry of network operation field  (Activity number) is mandatory.
    Please suggest how operation (Activity number) field mandatory can be removed in case of time entries to  PS network in CAT2 screen.
    I want to book time entries of the person only to the Network number don't want to include operation number in CAT2 screen.
    Thanks & Regards
    SR .

    I dont think it would be possible to book timesheet entries directly against a network. Moreover i haven't come across any business scenario that demands timesheet entry against the network header.
    Moreover, how do you think the system will calculate the cost if you book timesheets against a network? In a standard scenario, when timesheet is booked against a network activity system calculates cost based on the work center maintained in the activity. Work center has the cost center and the activity type combination for which rates are maintained in KP26.
    Lastly, could you please explain the business need behind booking timesheets against a network header?

  • Why "null" value is impossible in "switch(val) {case null: }"  for enums?

    I'm wondering why Java 5.0 does not allow null values
    as options in switch statement:
    If type E is "enum" then the following language construction is
    not allowed:
    E val;
    switch(val) {
       case A:
         break;
       case B:
           break;
       case null:   // this is not allowed
            break;
    }Can somebody explain me why Java does not support it? I beleave that
    some serious reasons were for that.
    As we know enum types can have "null" values and in case I use nulls
    for my enumerations the code with "switch" statement becomes quite urgly because it is necessary to handle 2 separate execution paths:
    null and not null.
    Thanks

    I really dont know too much about 1.5, but I can tell you that for 1.4 the switch receives as a parameter an int or anything that can be casted automatically to an int. Therefore you cant never use null cause int, char, short, byte cant never take as a value null.

  • How do I use a switch with a null variable?

    Here is my current situation...
    I have a form that will take the inputted information in the field "LEDIR" and divide it by the information in field "AMMO".  I get errors when the form is first loaded because the field "AMMO" is blank and causes a "Divide by 0" problem.   I tried to solve the problem with a switch, but an not sure how to create a "null" switch case.  Here is what I have.. any ideas as to how I can set the second case so it returns a "0" for a null AMMO field?
    var InvR = this.getField("LEDIR").valueAsString;
    var AmmoPk = this.getField("AMMO").valueAsString;
    switch (Ammo)
    case "0":
       event.value = 0;
       break;
    case "[what do i put here?] ":
       event.value = 0;
       break;
    default:
       event.value = (Math.floor(InvR/AmmoPk))
    any ideas as to how I can set the second case so it returns a "0" when the AMMO field is empty?

    You can even stack the 'case' to create and 'OR' type of selection:
    var InvR = this.getField("LEDIR").valueAsString;
    var AmmoPk = this.getField("AMMO").valueAsString;
    switch (Ammo) {
    case "0":
    case "":
       event.value = 0;
       break;
    default:
       event.value = (Math.floor(InvR/AmmoPk))
    But it is just as easy to use:
    var InvR = Number(this.getField("LEDIR").value);
    var AmmoPk = Number(this.getField("AMMO").value);
    event.value = "";
    if(AmmoPk != 0) {
      event.value = (Math.floor(InvR/AmmoPk))

  • How do I use switch and case statements to fill more than one other field?

    Hi all,
    I'm new to the community.
    I'm trying to make an existing form more user friendly for my coworkers. I want to use a switch and case approach in a drop-down list field so that the selection fills two seperate other fields with different info related to the selection.
    I can already do this with one field, but if I add a second target field under an existing case the text doesn't appear there when I make the selection from the dropdown.
    Basically, I'm asking if I can do this:
    switch
    (sNewSel){
       case "1": // Selection 1    Row2.Field1
    = "text for field 1";
        Row1.Field2 = "text for field 2";
        break;
    etc.
    It works if the "row1.field2" option isn't there, but not when it is present.
    Any takers?

    I'm not sure if I will be able to send you the form. There may be too much to redact.
    Would this last bit of code in the cell affect anything?
    if
    (bEnableTextField)
    {Row2.Field1.access
    = "open"; // enable field
    Row2.Field1.caption.font.fill.color.value= "0,0,0"; // set caption to black
    That is, do I also need to repeat the same thing for the second target cell (Row1.Field2)?
    What would be possible hang ups that would prevent it from working correctly?
    Dave
    By the way, I'm not sure if my other attachment posted. I am trying again.

  • Good iphone car mount that works with case?

    I need a car mount for my iPhone so that I can use the phone's GPS app. I've looked around and so far I can only find mounts that work for iPhones without any case.
    I would rather not have to remove the case everytime I got in my car, so are there any recommended mounts out there that work for phones with cases?
    Thanks!

    Griffin makes an FM/lighter mounted model, which has several bottom mounting brackets, to fit several phone models. I tested it out today, but the ipod buttons on the model don't work correctly, and FM was spotty to awful, as always on these type of setups. It did hold my naked cellphone well, and wish it had worked as advertised - cost about $100 at Best Buy.
    Belking has a similar model (about $70 at Best Buy), without the FM transmitter, also on a lighter stalk, which may work, since it grips the top of the phone with a wider clip, made to adapt to case thicknesses, I presume. I have not tried out this model, but may do so, since I have never found a single FM transmitter that works well - too much static, fading in and out, etc.
    Is there anyone who can recommend a lighter mounted (on a flexible stalk) charger for the iphone, that has a stalk long enough to accommodate any rental car, I would very much appreciate it.

  • Change a 3560 Switch with Lifetime Waranty

    A simple question:
    Our client has 3560X Switches with a limited lifetime warranty. The Cisco Partner with whom they had the contract before bought the equipment, and they did not end up on good terms. One of the devices died the other day. My question is - how do we replace it now?
    Thanks

    I wish... here is the answer I got from TAC: "in this case there is nothing we can do to replace it as per Cisco policies and procedures customer has to engage his reseller for support."
    So disappointing... Now I need to call the client and tell them they need to throw the lifetime warranty switch away and buy a new one...
