Operation could not be completed - GIF file
Not sure why i am having this issue with this file. i have had they same issue with other files too, seems to always be the GIF format... If i enter the folder, or click the image or unselect the image... doesn't matter what i do this message keeps popping up... i have attached a screenshot and the actual file to see if anyone out there gets the same problem and if there are any solutions...?!!?
I am still able to open the file but i have to keep clicking out of the error message.

There have been some users having problems in PS woring with GIF on a Mac. Believe Apple fixed the bug in the Os. Do you have latest version? What are you using?

Since a few days when I try to copy or move files on my macbook, I often get an error message saying "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -8062)". And then it just quits the copy or move.
I searched a lot on the internet, but only found solutions for cases you cannot empty the trash due to this issue.
I tried those solutions for my trash and that helped after some trying.
However, I still have the problem with copying and moving files.
I even cannot install new software now, as it has to copy itself to the programs-directory, and gives the same error-message.
Who can help me??

My user-account is administrator, I use a 13" Macbook Aluminium (Late 2008). Mac OS X 10.6.8 CPU 2Ghz Intel Core Duo, RAM: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

- make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
- do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
- perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
- make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
- after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
Still, I will go through the other tips too.

Operation could not be completed because "whatever file i'm copying" is in use
Ever since upgrading my 2012 Mac Air to Mavericks, I've been seeing this error message sporadically when copying files to my SMB share on my raspberrypi.
I'm not sure if it's just coincidence with the os upgrade, and I'm not sure how to consistently reproduce the problem.
"Operation could not be completed because "whatever file I'm copying" is in use".
It doesn't seem to matter if I'm copying one file or a bunch of files. Randomly, that message will pop up, and then the copy will stop.I've restarted the mac quite a few times, with and without the reopen option checked. Made sure the first thing to do was to copy those files to the other server. The only thing that could be using the files, would be Finder itself. It seems like when I have a list of files to copy, the message will pop up somewhere in the middle of the list. All the files previous to the error have been copied correctly. All files including the one in the error message and after it, don't get copied.
If the first or only file is particularly large, the error may pop up. When the message does pop up, it is always after a few minutes of copying, never right away.
Never had this problem prior to the Mavericks upgrade. -

PS CS5 The operation could not be completed. A file system I/O error has occurred
Howdy...
I'm using Photoshop CS5 and when I go to use a handful of filters such as Liquify or Lens Correction I am suddenly getting an error message saying:
"The operation could not be completed. A file system I/O error has occurred"
Doesn't matter if it's a massive file or a small one. Sometimes the Liquify box will actually come up, but after I make one or two strokes, the beachball comes up and moments later I get the error message again. It doesn't actually crash PS, it just prevents me from using those filters. Each time I click, the error message comes up again. I've also tried it with my PS CS3 on the same Mac and it does the same thing. However on my 4 year old MacBook Pro, it's absolutely fine. Grrrrr!
I have my PS set as default on 64 bit. I have a scratch disk with nearly 500gb free (which is not my start-up disk) I am running a Mac Pro 2.8 GHz 8 Core Intel with 16gb of ram, so it's not a memory problem. Running Mac OS 10.6.7 but did the same on 10.6.6 too.
I have repaired the disk permissions on the start-up disk. I have reloaded a fresh copy of PS (a few times). Even did a hard Un-install with maccs3clean after trying a regular Un-install with no success.
I had an 1.5hr conversation with an Adobe Tech guy earlier today and he's scratching his head, so I'd thought I'd throw it open to you guys hoping someone has had the same problem and can save the rest of my hair from being pulled out.

I know this is an old post but I need to bump it.
I work for a image processing company and we all sit on top spec mac pro's with 16-32 GB of RAM, top graphic cards and SSD drives.
All of my collegaues' computers are working fine when it comes to using liquify and all of the filters that come with CS5, but it sure doesn't work on my mac at all.
We have a tech guy who has re-installed the OSX on a new SSD drive now two times and we have started from scratch with installing CS5 but it still will not work. I keep getting "the operation could not be completed..." every time i try
to liquify or do any other filter work.
I am 100% sure it doesn't have to do with any disk permissions or broken drives in my case.
Could there be an issue with the graphic card or any other hardware component since it's clearly not a software related issue?
Any help would be much appreciated because we are very much in the dark here.

I'm trying to clean my mailbox and when I click on delete or highlight and move to trash I get a message that says "operation could not be completed - file exists. Further, when I select a message or group of messages, one of them is copied (not deleted) to the trash folder. Can someone help me through this?
Thanks.It's a POP account. I decided to clean up my mailbox today after noticing the computer was real slow after USA Today started sending their daily top stories with new graphics. Also before I noticed the problem with mail deletion - two things happened. 1) I updated security sofware as prompted by Apple and 2) downloaded Mackeeper and went throught some preliminary scans but did not buy their package. Thanks forn nstaying with me.

Set name of file - 'the operation could not be completed'
I have a script (see below) that is supposed to rename a list of files that have been recently saved as self contained by Quicktime Player in a script just run prior to this script .
What happens is that if the script is run immediately after the Quicktime Player script it generates a dialog with the message 'The operation could not be completed'. It was puzzling since the script would occasionally work as I tested it on its own in script editor.
After much trial and error messages I discovered that if
1. I run the Quicktime Player script saving the movies; Then
2. manually open the folder containing the movies in the finder, then
3. run the script to rename the movies,
the script would run correctly. If I don't open the folder the script fails with the 'the operation could not be completed' dialog.
Any ideas as to why this happens? Any workarounds suggested?

Finder has been affected by its long standing bug or design flaw in updating its internal cache, which seems relevant to your case.

PS. Why are you renaming files after saving them in different names? Saving them in the final names in QT Player would be the simplest way. Just my thought.

File Save for Web = Error: The operation could not be completed.
Installed photoshop CS6 trial Version 13.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate running in hyper-v virtual machine. Created a small image and clicked File Save for Web. This produced the error dialog "Error: The operation could not be completed."
I tried the following trouble shooting steps:
1. deleted the preferences
2. created a new user
3. re-installed both the operating system and photoshop
4. looked for permission issues
5. monitored procmon.exe to look for unusual errors

Hi guys,
Recently since an update not long ago ever since i have been trying to copy stuff into my NAS (Thecus N5200) it comes up with a problem saying
"Operation could not be completed because you do not have access to some files"
I have read some places who say that this is due to some permission errors or some of the files get locked somehow and means you cant copy it properly however i have checked these files and it is not the case. I have looked online and even called up Apple to see what they could tell me but even they said that they havent had any calls regarding this problem before. The person from Apple suggested i try doing a Disk Permissions repair and for a while it works...but 5 minutes later it happens again.
What can i do to fix it? I will be extremely unhappy if i have to keep doing this every time i copy something. Sometimes Repair Disk Permissions wont change a **** thing. This is ******** because its never happened before and only started recentlysorry for the long correspondance. I sort of "forgot" about this thread and was using usb to transfer files (which is quite annoying).
AFP is enabled which means i believe it is connecting to the server through AFP. The funny thing is that it copies pretty much all the way to the end and then says "operation could not be completed because you dont have access to some files" . Im not sure what it has to do with disk permissions but sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesnt.
Thanks for the link Barney, looks like im not the only one suffering from these issues. I was connecting via smb://server before, i just tried mounting it via afp://xxx.xxx.x.xx . i will see how it goes but some people say its slower? for documents i dont mind but i hope apple comes up with a solution. i dont want to be copying large tv show files to the server at anything less than what i was getting before
edit: i just looked at the logs of previous connections with servers on the mac and i found there was a difference between how i mounted this server recently and it a while back. recently i had been trying to connect using smb://n5200 and in the past before snowleopard it had been smb://N5200. I tried once again to connect using smb://N5200 and it works flawlessly (for the moment). im going to keep trying to copy different files to see if its "fixed". perhaps the introduction of snowleopard made the OS more picky about capitals.

Hello, I have a 35GB text file that I'm copying from one folder to another folder via c#
(I simply open a StreamReader and a StreamWriter and copy line by line (something like sw.WriteLine(sr.ReadLine());)
If [the destination folder is a "windows compress folder" (right click folder > properties > Advanced > Compress content to save disk space)] then it fails else it works well.
Any idea how to solve the issue?
I have windows 8.1 with all latest updates. The ssd is a samsung 850 pro, and I tried on 2 machines, same results.
So to recap, it seems the issue is with the writing of big files on a compress folder, the reading is fine.
