Operational Quorum and both nodes rebooting.

I've experienced an issue that when I rip out the SCSI cables to shared storage (and the quorum device), both nodes panic and
reboot. Is this expected behavior?
It seems that it is understandable that the active node reboots, because it lost the disk-path and quorum device. But should
the stand-by node reboot to?

No problem.
It's running S10 update 4 w/ SC 3.2.
3120 JBOD attached to two T2000's, two-node cluster.
I'm wondering if the stand-by node didn't see the quorum device, when the the active nodes scsi cables were pulled.
We pulled the standby nodes SCSI cables and reconnected them prior to pulling the active nodes. The difference was that the stand-by node's /var/adm/messages log was filled with expected messages regarding a missing disk. The cables were re-attached to the stand-by and then yanked out of the active node. This is when both nodes panicked.

    Hi!
I suppose this seems easy: you have a service at 'http://RAIDarray.mppdcsgswsst6140:1:0:2' (a RAID perhaps?) which failed. Logically all servers connected to thi RAID went down at the same time.
Seems no Oracle problem. Good luck!

  • Cluster doesn't have operational quorum - one node of the cl couldnt reach

    Hi All,
(I posted this issue at an other forum but I thought this one is more suitable, sorry to post it again)
I'd like to ask help regarding to the problem I had which made me
block. Unfortunately my investigation was not good enough.
    Here is the brief description below;
I have a V440 cluster and one of the node could not boot up
    successfully, startup log says me;
cluster doesn't have operational quorum yet; waiting for quorum.
    what I did were;
1./ booting both nodes at the same time - didn't work
2./ shutdown good node and only started up bad node - didn't work
3./ replaced cluster interconnect cables with working cables - didn't
    work
Please take a look at the startup log and let me know what I should do
    further.
Your helps will be really appreciated for me thx,

So the heartbeat networks between the two machines aren't working. Without that, the existing node won't allow this node to join the cluster and then release its reservations.

    Tim
    ---hi,
    thanks,
but interconnects are connected point-to-point and working fine on other clusters, so How can I investigate heartbeat networks?
on the other side as you said bad node can not boot up.

    Hi F1N5G10,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you don't have the AirPlay option on your iOS devices. Restarting your Apple TV and iOS devices was a good first step, and you can find some additional tips to guide your troubleshooting at this link:

I am so glad to hear about your success. As you are new to the Mac environment, I will be glad to help you more.
You said: "I can't change the setup yet but i have access". I don't understand what you mean about changing the setup! Please let me know more about that.
I also recommend to use Boot Camp, which allows you to install windows on a partition of your internal hard drive. This has many benefits. First, you can restart your computer and start up in windows. This makes your Mac device a complete windows machine and you gain the most from your hardware when working in Windows. Second, if a problem occures to your Mac OS X, you can restart your machine in Windows and prevent your data from getting lost. Third, you can import the Windows installed on the boot camp partition in to the Mac OS X using VMWare Fusion and work with it as a virtual machine. In this situation, VMWare enables you to work directly with your Windows in the boot camp partition. So it does not create a file package for the virtual machine in OS X.
Regarding the data safety and reliablity, I strongly recommend using Time Machine. You can also set it up to back up your virtual machines or not. This is possible to set up in the Virtual Machine Preferences Page in VMWare Fusion, or in the Time Machine preferences page in the System Preferences app of OS X.
Please don't hesitate to ask any other question. I will be glad to help you.

I really don't appreciate the fact that no one from Apple seems to be dealing with the many, many threads that have started on this topic since iOS 7 came out. In any event, I seem to have solved my problem with a full software restoration -- that is, iOS software restoration.
I clicked on "Restore iPhone..." which does a complete reinstall of the iOS but also all apps, photos, songs, etc. Took about 45 minutes, but seems to have worked.
I had previously tried reverting to a backup of my iPhone, but that did not solve the problem. Only a full restore solved it.

  • Premiere CS5 - Project Monitor playback is jerky after resintall of operating system and CS5

PROBLEM: Premiere CS5 - Project Monitor playback is jerky
This had NOT been an issue prior to reinstalling the operating system and all software.  I have read numerous articles on the forums and have tried everything I can find...with no results.
STEPS TAKEN TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM:
I have scoured the articles here http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/search/index.cfm?loc=en_us&term=choppy%20video&cat=support&pr oduct=premierepro and others at Cretive Cow
I have installed all updates for CS5 Master Collection, immediately following a fresh install of the operating system and SC5 Master Collection.
I have ensured that sequence settings match resolution and frame rates of footage - the problem persists.
I have tested by importing both standard def AVI files created from tape and high def SONY MP4 files - the problem persists.
I have ensured the latest Video drivers are installed (clean installation selected, so that the Windows default would be removed) - the problem persists.
I have tried the 3D settings in NVIDIA control panel | Program Settings tab... selected Adobe Premiere Pro from the drop down menu | and chaged 'Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration from the value of 'Multiple Display performance' to the value of 'single display performance'; although, I ran two monitors before using this latest NVIDIA video driver and I didn't experience this jerky footage issue - the problem persisted after affecting that change; so, I switched it back.
Since I have 96 GB of RAM, I don't use a pagefile.  A zero MB page file is the same setting I had prior to rebuilding the C:  Regardless of whether I have a pagefile or not, the problem persists.
I have tried creating a fresh user profile, where the user profile is created on the C: drive by default; and, where I left it there on C: to test for the jerky playback in a new PrPR project  - the problem persists.
Regarding the C: (system drive) and why I reinstalled everything, it had become unstable and was locking up.  I ran DISK ERROR CHECKING with the FIX parameter and the system was still locking up on me.  Keep in mind that the System drive is a solid state drive.  Anyhow, I had no choice but to dive in and reinstall everything.  I wiped the system partition of the SSD using quick format and started installing the operating system.  Now, I've read the CLAIM that this cuases performance issues; but, the only place I see issues is in the video monitor playback in PrPr.  Everything else - Office applications...printing...browsing the Internet...works just fine, everything is responsive, whereas, I couldn't do ANYTHING with it before.

    PREFACE:
OK, I am hoping that through this week-long Operating-System-and-Software-reinatalltion excerise of mine, I have revealed something that everyone -- whom have been cursing Adobe over -- can apply to their systems to resolve this jerky video problem within PremierePro CS5 (and quite possibly other versions, too).
If you've read my post above, you've seen all the steps I've taken to resolve the problem.  I've read many posts, some of which have mentioned  hardware upgrade / opitmization steps that one may take to enhance performance, and hopefully resolve the problem.  I've read where people have taken these steps and have still experienced the problem...and then they curse Adobe.  Fer-shame, fer-shame, fer-shame! (nod to Gomer Pyle).
In my case, I knew it wasn't an Adobe issue, as it had worked flawlessly before; and, it wouldn't require a hardware upgrade or reconfigureation, as my system is completely maxed out with two processors, a system drive and a hardware RAID5 array, a CUDA-suported nVIDIA 4800 FX card, and 96 GB of RAM.  bla bla bla, puke...whatever.  Bottom line is this:
It's not a software issue.  It's not and Adobe issue; and Gawd no!  It's NOT a PC vs. Mac issue!  HA HA.  The software had worked swimmingly well prior to the reinstallation / 'lobotomy' I perfomed on the system drive.
    SOLUTION FOR ME:
Download and install the updated drivers for the motherboard.  Mine is an Intel Workstation Board S5520SC.  Intel has an INTEL DRIVER UPDATE UTILITY which automatically scaned my Intel system and identified drivers which needed updating.  A very handy, time-saving tool!!!  Here's the URL: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
The scan revealed two Intel drivers needing an update:
    Intel Chipset
    Wired Networking
    and one non-intel driver:
    Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-fi
I downloaded and installed these three drivers, rebooted, and tested PremierePro, and was extatic to find this resolved the problem.
If you have a motherboard from another manufacturer, then you may want to navigate over to their wibsite to locate chipset and other updated drivers for your motherboard.
    ROOT CAUSE:
While Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate was able to install certain default drivers during the Operating System installation (keeping in mind that this was done on an Intel Solid State Drive that I formatted using Quick Format) these default chipset drivers apparently weren't current and were ultimately the root cuase of the jerky video playback within PremierePro CS5.
    Peace

    Hi,
the problem lies in the error message around the quorum device. The SC documentation, specifically the Sun Cluster Error Messages Guide at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4681 explains this as follows:
414208 QUORUM_GENERIC: quorum preempt error in CMM: Error %d --- QUORUM_GENERIC Tkown ioctl failed on quorum device %s.
    Description:
This node encountered an error when issuing a QUORUM_GENERIC Take Ownership operation on a quorum device. This error indicates that the node was unsuccessful in preempting keys from the quorum device, and the partition to which it belongs was preempted. If a cluster is divided into two or more disjoint subclusters, one of these must survive as the operational cluster. The surviving cluster forces the other subclusters to abort by gathering enough votes to grant it majority quorum. This action is called "preemption of the losing subclusters".
    Solution:
Other related messages identify the quorum device where the error occurred. If an EACCES error occurs, the QUORUM_GENERIC command might have failed because of the SCSI3 keys on the quorum device. Scrub the SCSI3 keys off the quorum device and reboot the preempted nodes."
You should try to follow this advice. I would propose to chose a different QD before trying to do this, if you have one available. Is it possible that this LUN has been in use by a different cluster?
To scrub SCSI3 keys you should use the scsi command in /usr/cluster/lib/sc: ./scsi -c inkeys -d <device> to check for the existence of keys, and ...-c scrub.. to remove any SCSI3 keys.

    Hartmut

Turn off your router for 30 seconds and on again.

  • Secondary Node Rebooted instead of falling to Ok prompt

    Hi all,
We need to get system backup for our clustered DB, before and after our maintenance work.
    We have the following configuration:
    Node #1 and Node #2
    Solaris 8
    SunCluster 3.0
    Oracle 9.3.4
    VxVM 3.2
Before issuing cluster shutdown command, I verified which node is primary.
    #scstat
I issued scshutdown -y -i0 on the primary node, the secondary node rebooted instead of halting to {ok} prompt. (The primary server successfully fall to ok prompt)
When I checked on the logs on the secondary node.

Has anyone encountered this error before.
    Thank you in advance.

scshutdown gives a shutdown command on both nodes. here is the procedure.
    -failover your resourcegroup to node_2
    root@node_2#scswitch -z -g oracle -h node_2
you can check the status of the with scstat
-on the node which you want to backup:
    root@node_1#init 0
    ok boot -sx
    s = single usermode
x = outside of the cluster
Once you're in single usermode, start your backup
If you wish to avoid a bunch of logging on node_2, you can always disable, or set it in maintenance, node_1 on node_2 with scconf:
    root@node_2#scconf -q node=node_1,maintstate
(make sure you know what you're doing here)
to reboot node_1 and join it into the cluster:
    root@node_1#umount -a
    root@node_1#sync
    root@node_1#reboot
ok boot (if auto-boot? is set to false)
    root@node_2#scconf -q node=node_1,reset
    that's it
    cheers,
    Kim

  • Losing quorum on 3 node dag with the lose of only 1 node.

We have exchange 2010 latest version and rollups as of June 30, 2014. running on Windows 2008R2 also patched on June 30th. Two nodes in Seattle (primary DC) and 1 node in Spokane (backup DC) active mailboxes are in Seattle site only when running normally.
All 3 servers run MB, CAS and HUB. We are about to LB the CAS on an F5 BigIP box, but that is not in place yet.
We had discovered a few months ago that something is amiss when we were doing updates on the 1 server in Spokane. Normally it would be no issue to suspend replication, patch the server, restart it and resume replication. This would not cause any outages.
Now when we restart that server, or any of the 3 server for that matter, the quorum is lost and the cluster service is terminated on the 2 server that were still up and running when the other was rebooted.
I've been researching this problem and did discover that the 2nd server in Seattle had no vote and have resolved that issue, but the problem continues.
Strangely enough, when looking at Failover cluster Manager, the warning is there next to Quorum configuration that the loss of a node will bring the cluster down, YET when running validation testing, the report says the cluster can survive the failure of
a node. It's contradictory. So we are looking to find out what is the issue. Once the server reboots and is back up, I can manually restart the cluster service on the 2 nodes that were not rebooted and the infrastructure comes up just fine.
However, this is not what a 3 node cluster should do. Any ideas where else to look to resolve this problem?

Thanks. I did remove a few lines that I hope you were not looking for.
some background: Originally this was a 2 node DAG, just in Seattle, a third node was added in Spokane about a year ago. At the 2nd member was sea-mail-02, but it was removed (properly) and sea-mail-03 was added (this was about 5 months ago)
It was not until we did our 3rd DR test that we had some problems getting the DAG to mount in Spokane. We got some help from MS pro support and got things working. Lots of cluster commands were issued in PS and since then, we are having this issue.
