Opinion about short film and help on CG used

Hello all!
Not sure this is the correct place to post this. If I'm in the wrong location, please place this post in the correct location.
Forgive my bad english, ok?
Guys, I know there are many artists here in this forum, so I would ask for help for artists.
I posted a short film yesterday and for lack of time and knowledge of CG, my short film was amateur, I know.
I would ask a help to the artists here and ask how I could improve the effects of this short film?
What would you do to improve, what features would you use the AE to enhance the film?
I filmed with a 5D mark 2 and mark 3.
I used the AE and Premier.
I'm sure your comments will help me produce something better next time.
It may be a tip, an article, plugins name, names of AE filters, finally, it will help the whole community, I'll put your name of credits as a thank you.
Thank you, I'm sure that everyone at least help with a tip, it will be of great value.

The only effect that I saw that looked a little cheesy was the glowing eyes at the end of the film. It was a little too intense and could have use a little more finesse and some better tracking.
The film in general suffers from pacing problems. This is the hardest thing for an editor to learn. It needs to be tightened up so you just show enough to tell the story. I worked on a feature once that spent 6 days on location filming with a crew of more than 50 and a cast of 10. When the final film was released there were only about 4 shots from 6 days of filming final cut because all of that other material didn't contribute to the telling of the final story.
Keep the effects subtle. Move the camera closer to your actors and use wider lenses. Don't move the camera unless the movement emphasizes a plot point. Keep up the good work.

  • I am making an short film and i whant to make a vocal sound like it comes from a bottle. Can someone help me?

I dont know how i am going to do it, I havet worked much in audition before so i dont know how to do it. I am guessing it is some type of reverb but i dont know whats the best and stuff like that. And thanks for the help .

How are you positioning the viewer/listener?  To be inside or outside the bottle?  How will your visuals support that action?  If you want some creative license and your listener is outside the bottle, add a slight whistle, or the low drone one hears as if you were blowing across it.  Add a notch filter to the fx rack and try the 60Hz Octaves preset for start.  That will add a little convincing whistle reflection to the voice.  If inside, then it's room small dynamics and playing with reverb, (as Bob suggests).
Direction also plays a roll when you change the angle of the viewer relative to the bottle.  That is, the voice is more clear if you listen directly overhead of the opening verses being muffled from the side.  A good starting point for a muffled effect would be to use the "underwater speech" present available in the FX rack.  It will load chorus, parametric eq and reverb into the rack, set to a good baseline to start from, and don't forget to add the notch filter at 60Hz for added effect.
When inside the bottle or listening directly overhead, disable the parametric eq for clearer sound, then add it back in when listening from outside, through the glass.  Give it try and tweak as needed.

  • What's your opinion about my theme and logo ?

That's my first webstie and first self-made graphics. so be gentle, please

    Thanks.

IMHO, GraniteDS is the most fully implemented open source AMF solution out there (meaning, it's the closest you can get to LCDS without having to shell out the big bucks). A couple things that come to mind are built in support for lazy loading and data push.
The downside is that documentation is sparse, and it's difficult to jump into unless you have had some experience with other AMF solutions.

  • Independent Short Film Editing Solutions?

    Hello,
I'm going to be shooting a 23 minute short film and was looking for input on the most desirable and economic solution for post production. Here's the basic specs:
Shooting HDCAM 23.98 sync sound 48 kHz... (prod. audio on camera masters)
Finishing D5 24p fully mixed (perhaps even a 5.1 mix)
The tired and true way I'd do it is down-convert to DVCAM and edit in 29.97 NDF NTSC. I'd then spit out an EDL and online off the HDCAM masters at a post facility. Then I'd color correct and do visual FX (there are some green screens and possible 3D fx I'd have to do) at said post facility and layback final pic to D5.
On the audio side, I'd do an OMF export of the audio and give it to the audio facility for further editorial and a mix.
I'm hoping to get some post facility help for free, so I don't have to completely avoid going there. It's more important that the film look and sound great on a big screen than the novelty of having done it all myself...
That being said, I know Apple has made great strides in handling HD... should I rent an HDCAM deck? Can I edit HDCAM 23.98p material on FCP 5? (Or just 1080i?) If I'm doing multi layered FX, can the G5 REALLY handle HD material? And does having to rent an HDCAM deck for digitizing defeat the point of saving money by doing it all yourself? Aren't they mega expensive???
Thoughts? Besides "good luck with that..."??
Many thanks in advance for anyone who wants to take a stab at it.

can the G5 REALLY handle HD material?
Yes it can. But not cheaply.
What you need for this is an HD capture card (Decklink HD or Kona 2 or Kona LH), High speed drives, like external SATA or fibrechannel Raid array. Then you'll have to rent a deck for a few days to capture the material, and, if you feel comfortable in your color correcting ability (I'd suggest letting another do this) then rent it AND an HD monitor for a couple more days to finish the show.
A good workflow, if you only want to deal with the creative cutting, is to shoot HDCAM, transfer to DVCAM (slaving TC) and edit. Then bring the project file...no EDL, the actual project file...to a post facility that has an FCP finishing system. In L.A. I can name 4 places that do this....there are many many more. Not sure what the rental cost of an HDCAM is, but it might be between $500 adn $1000 a day.
    Your OMF workflow is correct.

  • Software for animated short films?

    Hello!
We would like to make some animated short films, and would like to hear any tips people might have on what software to use on OS X.
An amateur level SW would be sufficient, but if there isn't any available we would consider a pro application.
    All the best, Magnus

Depends on what type of animation you're looking to do..
There are several pro level 3D modeling and animation apps including Newtek's LightWave3D and AutoDesk's Maya.
Search http://www.versiontracker.com or http://www.macupdate.com for 'animation' for some other, generally less expensive, alternatives.

  • How to remove the standard Exit and Help buttons from the iviews

    Hi All,
We migrated the ESS application from standalone ITS based on 4.6c to ECC 6 based Integrated one.  After converting that into ICF service and when we created the iview for it in the portal(EP 7)  It is showing two hyperlink items EXIT and HELP by default at the top of every iview.  So, Can anybody tell me how to remove them from visibility.
And also, the iviews are not showing the table grids etc in the integrated environment.  Is there any change that need to be done, for getting the table grids and all to look as it is in the previous envoronment.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi

    Hello Ravi,
You should be aware that many of the ESS transaction are not supported on the Integrated ITS, see note 870126 for more details.
To remove the "Exit" and "Help" you can use the ~webgui_simple_toolbar parameter, please see note 1010519.
Some tables have an option to show the gridlines or not.  Please see if there is a table options icon in the upper right of the table to change the configuration.  I'm not sure if what kind of table you're referring to so it may or may not be available.

  • When To and when NOT to use cursors

Can anyone please refer to a good resource about When to and When NOT to use cursors.
I have search on line but I haven't find anything really good.
    Thank you.
    H

If you can do it in a single SQL statement (one UPDATE or whatever), that will almost always be more efficient than a loop construct.
If you absolutely need a loop, bulk operations (BULK COLLECT, FORALL) will be more efficient than row-by-row processing for any significant number of rows.
If it is a relatively small number of rows, I would then weigh up the simplicity of a Cursor FOR loop (although Regarding the creation of simple cursors).
btw I loved that comedy Forms 3 article, but surely April 1st isn't until Saturday?

  • About the amount of hard disk memory used during Testdrive installation

    Dear all,
I have a question about installing SAP Netweaver Testdrive on Redhat Linux Enterprise 5.3. Currently I have a virtual machine (sun virtualbox) where Windows Vista is host and the guest operating system is RHLE 5.3 (32 bit). For doing several tests I would like to install the Testdrive on this linux system. Yet, the total available virtual hard disk memory is about 15 GB and I have already used more than 6GB.
Is there any way to specify the amount of hard disk memory used by Netweaver once it installs DB2 on the system? Because as it seems to me it takes more than 15 GB just for the database. But I'm not sure whether the whole space is really needed, particularly in my case where the aim of use is just for ABAP development and tests (for self-training).
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,
    Dariyoosh
Edited by: dariyoosh on Dec 5, 2009 11:23 AM

    Hi,
You can refer the specific installation guide for the minimum disk space requirement.
Whatever functionality you use you need minimum space as mentioned in the installation guide.
You can configure slightly more memory than given in the installation guide to be safer.

i need any videos i shoot on my iphone, to go to the cloud automatically (when i get an icloud account). the demos show pics and docs going directly, but the demos are ambiguous about short videos i shoot on my phone....not backed up nightly, but available soon.  help?

Since photo stream doesn't support videos, you would need to use an app to do this.  Dropbox may be a good choice as I believe once enabled, all you have to do is open the app and it will automatically upload photos and videos taken since the last upload to your Dropbox account (see https://www.dropbox.com/help/289/en).  If you aren't familiar with Dropbox, it's a very popular cloud service for hosting files and other media.  Amazon just announced that its Cloud Drive service will soon support photos (http://9to5mac.com/2013/05/10/amazon-launches-cloud-drive-photos-app-for-iphone) /; perhaps it will also be extended to support videos at some point.

  • Is there a way to convert iMovie projects to HDCAM for a short film submission?  They also accept 35mm or D i g i t a l B e t a N T S C.  Help!!!

I am working on a short film project for a film festival - they require the film to be in either 35mm, Digital Beta NTSC or HDCAM.  Is this possible with IMovie or in Adobe?  I have tried to research this online and am not finding out much information.  I am hoping someone here has knowledge of these types of conversions and can point me in the right direction.  Help!!!  Thank you in advance for any thoughts or ideas!!!

35mm is film and Digital Beta and HDCAM are tape.
iMovie is not able to output to tape and even if it were you'd need a the appropriate tape deck to do it.
Your best bet is to find a television post production house that can take a computer file and output it to tape.
    Where are you located?

These "Share" files are accessed and used by the Create Disc app.
Create Disc is buried in the FCP X package.
    Applications>FCP X>Show Package Contents>Contents>Plugins>Compressor>Compressor Kit.bundle>Show Package Contents>Embedded Apps>Create Disc
I'm wondering if having the Compressor Application on a Mac makes a difference to having just FCP X on a Mac and the use of the Sharing feature.
I have Compressor loaded and find that DVD and Bluray burns from Share without any glitches as some are experiencing.

My MBP  15" early 2008 / 10.6 ((2.4GHz Core 2 Duo/2GB/256MB VRAM/200GB 5400rpm)  is not working after looking to aYouTube short film. It made a strange strong noise , I closed it and when I switched on again I have a gray display and a frozen wheel on it... Can you help? Do I have to repair or change any part ?  Thanks

That model has a known fault in that Nvidea sold Apple and other computer manufacturers bad GeForce 8600M GT video chipsets that failed eventually. Apple had a program that repaired this at no cost to the owner but it expired almost two years ago.
If this is what happened to yours, and the symptoms suggest so, the only proper fix is a new logic board and I amd pretty sure Apple no longer has parts. When my Late 2007 MBP (same faulty chipset) failed, Apple told me there were no more parts and they could not even do the fixed-rate "depot repair" on mine even though I was willing to pay the ~US$300 for the repair.
The early 2008 MBP is on the vintage and obsolete list:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
The fact that yours is shown as "vintage" means Apple will not work on it but an independent service provider MAY be able to get the parts from Apple. However, as so may new logic boards were required to satisfy the repair program, from a practical standpoint boards for these are hard to find.
