Opinion between MB Air or Pro

Hi everyone! I know that probably I'm not the first person who ask somethink like that, but I need to decide what kind of MacBook I'm going to buy for my next birthday on March. Firstly I have to say that this will be the first MacBook in my life, in fact, I've never had one before. I'm thinking at something useful for the university and something that can substitute my 5 years old notebook. I'm really confused because all my friends said to me that both Air and Pro are really magnificent, fast, amazing. I also don't want to spend too much money, so I would choose a 13" model and spend between 1200 and 1500 euros (it depends on how much money I'll save). I use my notebook for all the web activities (mail, social network, researches for school, downloading programs and things like that), to make writings, to run video programs like Pinnacle Studio and other little programs, music (lots of music) and sometimes games. I saw the new MB Pro with retina display and things like that, but when I saw that they have no cd/dvd player and ethernet, I just changed idea. If it can help me, I have also a 250Gb external HDD. So, what I should buy? Air or Pro? (I wrote in the MB Air section because actually I would buy it because is cheaper and relly, really beautiful, but I'm really confused).

If you didn't pick the Retina Macbook because it has no DVD then your choice is easy as the MackBook Air has no DVD drive either. So you will pick the Pro instead I suppose :-) .
I have a MBA 11" and it is great, very thin and light, perfect to move it around. I would have loved to have this at uni. However, I only do some email, web surfing, etc. on it... nothing too fancy such as gaming or video editing. A MB Pro will better suit your needs but will be a little heavier. But if you are at uni you will be carrying books and a backpack around so it is not such a big deal I suppose.
Just think then:
MB Pro
- Heavier
- Faster
- More HD storage
- DVD drive
- Better for gaming
MB Air
- Light, very light
- Same screen/Keyboard as MB Pro
- Sound is worse
- Solid State Drive means system is faster, but you only have 128gb (on the cheap version)
- Worse for gaming, video editing, etc. Perfect for using excel, word, internet

Macbook air doesn't have retina and pro does so I was wondering if you have both, do you see a big difference in the resolution?

In a nutshell, the Air is a lightened, more compact system than the 13" Pro counterpart. The Air loses some hardware features to accommodate the physical downsizing.
No FireWire port
No built-in optical drive
A lesser performing CPU to retain battery charge life, and adequate cooling.
No Ethernet port
No Kensington lock slot
The Air does have a superior native resolution at 1440 x 900, and a standard SSD that does make up alot of the speed differential, and then some. Of course, the 13" Pro can be optionally configured with an SSD.
You buy the Air if the physical size an weight savings are demonstrably more important than the features lost.

A iPad is a touchbased tablet, it has a poor Atom level dual core processor that can do some things, but not a whole lot. The storage isn't so great on them and it needs a computer to operate. Can only run software from the App Store.
The MacBook Air is a lightweight laptop with a real keyboard, but limited other features like no cd/dvd drive, it's the best for ultimate portability and lightweight uses with good features. Can run a lot of third party software no problem.
The MacBook Pro 13" is a mid range laptop with cd/dvd drive, but poor integrated graphics. (little 3D gaming)

     I am going to start another year in college very soon and I need a laptop to handle my school work or projects. I don't know what to choose between Macbook Air 13" (2013) and Macbook Pro 13" (RAM 8GB - Not Retina Display). Here are what I need to do on computer:
     - Long time surfing through the internet.
     - Social network : Facebook, Instagram, Line, Skype ....
     - Watching movies online (mayb more than 3-4 hours)
     - Typing documents or making slide shows.
     - A lot of documents, HD videos/movies, photos and music.
     - Using some graphic/plan design programs such as CorelDraw, Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCad and so on. (Monthly but I still have to use it.)
     - Games are no needed cuz m not a gamer.
     That's all or maybe more, but I can't think of right now. My money is around 1500$. If you guys think I might need Air, should I configure it to match my expectations? I hope to having some good ideas from you. Thanks in advanced.

Ive got BOTH the Pro and AIr youre interested in, for what YOU say you want, Id get the Air.
Since you said you were only going to "some graphic/plan design programs", the Air is perfect for moderate Photo editing.
and you said no games.
Air has fewer parts, only one moving part (the fan), lite as an Ipad (almost) but a full powered computer.
No HD heads to crash, fewer parts = simplicity = less to fault.
Runs cooler than anything else out there (which = durability). Heat is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Pack around a regular notebook around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5.
Get the 13" much longer battery life, and the screen real estate is better, Ive owned both 11" and 13".     13" also has an SD card slot the 11" doesnt have.

Looking to buy a new Mac, which is better Mac Air or Pro?

I currently own a 13.3inch LED-backlit widescreen notebook Mac book pro from 2011 and am looking to upgrade. I'm in my last year of high school and will be starting college next year. I'm really into photography, and use my computer for all my notes and assignments in class. SD card slot is prefreable. Really lost as to what I should get, not looking to spend over $1,500.00 (roughly, open to ideas). Is it worth buying an 11'inch basic? If so how can I connect my SD card? ANY help is very appreciated:)

If as you said you plan on much photo editing, then definitely get the 13"

MacBook air or pro for Art student in university?

Hey,
I'm about to start year 12 then go onto study art in university after that. I'm looking to buy a Mac for school and personal use but I'm stuck between the air and the pro. My primary uses are:
YouTube
Facebook
Twitter
Downloading & listening to music
Downloading & watching movies and tv shows
Uploading photography for my art work and saving photos for art
Writing essays.
That's about all. I use iTunes for music and movies and such do I dont know if that affects storage space.
I was originally going to go with the air but I thought I would get some more opinions on what I should get.

on the model, and then CTO additional upgrades.
The Air does not have a Retina display, but has lesser
specs, so that may make a difference. They still offer a
low-end MB/Pro w/ optical drive, w/o Retina; specs vary;
it may work in your instance. You'd have 14 days to take
a new Apple computer back, so keep that in mind.

Air Navigation Pro Using Integrated iPhone GPS without a sim card

I use Air Navigation Pro with my iphone on a passenger seat of the plane. Integrated GPS function works just fine without a SIM card installed, but only to a certain speed ~300 km/h or height then it can’t find any satellite at all. Can be this problem be solved with the integrated GPS?

Thanks for that, Paulfromwallasey. I live in a rural area without many cell towers and with WiFi only in my home. I do use offline maps (topographical and street maps) on my iPod Touch 4 outdoors (not needing a signal, WiFi or cellular). I also have a hand-held Garmin GPS receiver but would rather use the GPS in the iPhone (its positional accuracy, while likely being lower than that obtained from my Garmin, is likely sufficient for my needs).
I guess that one of the questions that I was asking is if I were to purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone, and the SIM card have been removed, would the device's GPS still work with GPS-enabled apps (albiet without the cellular-assist)?
Can any pay-as-you-go SIM card be purchased for and used in a deactivated iPhone4? Would this even be necessary for the GPS?

As AnaMusic says - the one that suits your needs best is 'better'.
That said, you should be looking at two things: the extreme portability of the Airs and the more powerful processing power of the Pros. If lightness and portability are your main needs, go with the Air. If you want a machine with more raw power and still some portability, go with the Pro.
And as AnaMusic also says, it's best to take a look at the machines side-by-side before making a purchasing decision. Run a processor intensive app (any of the Apple Pro apps, or even Photoshop) on both machines and if the Pro is faster - and if you want fast - go with the Pro. If the Pro just seems too heavy for you, go with the Air.
In the end, it's your decision to make - power versus portability.

MacBook Air or Pro for Print/SocialMed/Video

I know this has been asked in all different ways but can't seem to find a thread that has what I'm wondering...appreciate the time and effort all of you put into these messages for those of us who don't pour over all the technical specs!
I'm a graphic designer (I'm in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator 80% of the day) but I also create training videos, iPad apps, iBooks and create everything for social media venues for my company. I also do a lot of the same on the side when I can for freelance jobs as well as create things for family events.
I'm looking to replace my home iMac with a MacBook but not sure which; the Air or Pro. I have a 2 x 2.26 Quad-core intel, 6GB Mem MacPro at work so that's what I'm use to working with. I beleive, from other reading, it's a nice to have the 8GB Mem but I also know this is all stuff I can add. I'm looking to spend around $2,000. I'm leaving it up to you pros out there to let me know what's the best bang for my buck.

I'm not certain that the 16 GB RAM is mandatory, but it would be nice.
My principle concern is the GPU capability. Both of these units have discrete GPU which will give you optimum performance in a note book.
Yes, both are refurbished units. I have done this three times and I recommend this path. They have always looked as if new with the same warranty and telephone support as a new one. It's your money.

Hi i was wondering if any of you could answer a couple of questions for me, i am looking to buy a new macbook air or pro (not sure which) but i was wondering if i could play a PC game via bootcamp? would it work okay? Also would a wireless PS4/3 or Xbox 1/360 controller work wirelessly?
