Opinion on Endnote X3 and Pages 09

I'm considering purchasing Endnote X3 for use with both Pages 09 and Word 2008. I'd be interested in any anecdotal feelings, criticisms, and experiences that some of you may already have. Do you consider your purchase of Endnote a worthy edition for use with Pages?
My goal is to eventually use Pages more than Word for day to day work, and Endnote would be helpful in that regard.
Also, can I use Endnote with both Word and Pages on the same Mac? I'm not speaking of using the same document in both programs, but strictly separate projects. But say, for instance, I have a master list of sources in Endnote, can the program and sources be used with both word processors?
Thanks.

Hi Rick, Endnote works fairly well with Pages – even though the integration could still be improved. As I also have come to prefer writing with Pages I would go for it.
Of course, you can use the same Endnote library for both your Pages and your Word documents.
The only thing that I find a true nuisance is that the Endnotes references will be lost as such if you transform a Pages document into a Word document. All your Endnote references will be turned into ordinary text.This is a real obstacle to sharing files if you intend to work on them with somebody else.
Best, Nick

  • What are the parameters "page-forward" and "page-backward"  used for?

    In the LIMITS section of the Netscape Calendar Server configuration
    documentation, there are two parameters called "page-forward" and
    "page-backward." The default setting for these parameters is FALSE. However,
    it is unclear what these parameters are used for.
    <P>
    With previous versions of Calendar Server, you could scroll one page forward
    or one page backward through the user search screens. However, with the
    implementation of LDAP in later versions, the options have been disabled in
    the client.
    <P>
    Although the page-forward and page-backward parameters are documented in the
    Administrator guides for Calendar Server versions 3.5 and 4.0, the guides
    state that the default value of FALSE for both parameters cannot be
    changed. In actuality, the parameters can be changed. However, the reason
    that users should not change these parameters is that versions 3.5 and 4.0
    do not support the page-forward and page-backward capabilities. So to avoid
    errors, please do not change these parameters from the default value of FALSE.

    if AdobeRGB is the more professional working space, then why not use that profile?
    on the web (and in unmanaged and broken work flows) sRGB is the safest profile (source space)
    just open your tagged Adobe RGB and tagged ProPhoto RGB document (use the embedded profile in each document)
    and go to View> Proof Setup: Monitor RGB (notice the loss in saturation? that's how most of the people on the Internet will be viewing your color, assuming you have a standard-gamut monitor like most people)
    always CONVERT to sRGB for the World Wide Web
    i didn't read your link
    anyone who recommends "disable color management in Photoshop" -- set Working RGB to "Monitor RGB" -- AND MOST UNBELIEVABLY -- "Don't color manage this document" (ignore embedded profiles) ------ is pretty mixed up (in my opinion)
    i will recommend reading JEFF SCHEWE and BRUCE FRASER for professional color management information

  • Diference between "Page" and "Page Forward"

    Friends,
    what is the differene between "Page" and "Page Forward" in the Struts component palette?
    Thanks!

    "Page" represents a page (like JSP, UIX, or HTML page)
    The user would browse this page by typing something like:
    http://somesite/someapp/somepage.jsp
    "PageForward" is a Struts action whose only job in life is to forward control to an underlying page.
    The user would browse this page by typing something like:
    http://somesite/someapp/somepage.do
    Since in an MVC architecture, typically you want all browser requests to go through your controller layer, that means that you typically don't want a user to short-circuit the controller layer by jumping straight to a *.jsp page (for example, by bookmarking that page in their browser's "favorites" list)
    So, does that mean you should always use page forwards?
    I personally don't think so, although some Struts developers may have a differing opinion than me.
    Even if you create a page forward as a "front" for the underlying *.jsp page, if the user knows the URL to the *.jsp page directly, they can still short-circuit your controller layer.
    So, what's really the best practice?
    Put your JSP pages in a subdirectory of your ./WEB-INF directory as the BC4J Toy Store demo illustrates. The WEB-INF directory and any subdirector thereof, is by the J2EE specifications NOT BROWSEABLE from the outside of the J2EE web container. So, doing this prevents users from ever being able to browse your JSP pages.
    If you adopt this practice, then you will typically have a Struts diagram that consists of Actions which forward to Pages (that are under ./WEB-INF). Even though the JSP pages under ./WEB-INF are not externally browseable, it is legal for code in the web tier (like your Struts controller layer code) to forward to such pages.
    Net net, with this best practice, you are always in control.

  • Adding javascript to page open and page close in acrobat 8.1.2

    Reading the Acrobat Javascript Object Specification on page 22 it says that you can add javascript to the "page open" and "page close" events of a document.
    It then says that under the menu "Document -> Set page action" you can add scripts for those events
    I am using Acrobat 8.1.2 and under the document menu there is no "Set page action". And there is nowhere where I can find any "set page action" menu...
    whats the deal?
    How can i set the page open and page close events in acrobat professional 8.1.2?????????????
    Marc

    - open the Navigation Panel 'Pages'
    - select the page and open the page properties
    - in the actions tab you can set the page actions

  • FIREFOX 26 changed the 'post crash' page with the list of windows and pages. It was a real HTML page with links for each page. Now it isn't (and blows)

    * You changed the page that comes up after a crash - the one which shows the windows and pages that were up before the
    crash.
    This used to be a real HTML page and it isn't any more. THis choice was pure isiocy consider how peopel used that page every day (try taking to your users for a change).
    The pages listed on that 'post crash page' used to be actual LINKS (you could right click them &
    manually open them in another tab - and most peope DID that every day). You could also (and I did this a lot) drag a second
    copy of the page, into a new tab (to keep track of all the pages I had not wanted to open)
    Now the pages are no longer links. You cannot right-click them.
    The thing in the probser is no longer a page that I can drag into a new tab.
    Roll the version back and throw this one in the bin...and have a good long talk with your developers about the definition of
    'STUPIDITIY'
    Then I try to type anything in the addres bar it is suppose to repoond with the history of old things I have types in the past, or
    search for what I type (and in some cases I think it tyes to convert it intoa URL). However it no longer does any of these
    things. When I type in the ADDRESS BAR ONLY, I do not get all of my letters to appear. I have to type into a notepad or
    into the search and to copy and paste to go to a URL. Nothing that is typed into the address bad responds normally at all
    anymore, and I am fairly certain there are no new addons on this machine at all. It does not matter which things I disable. It
    still does this. W of course points the finger back at a change to FIREFOX. I wich I could just sitct with one stable release
    forever but the MOZILLA folk thing it is best to force peopel awy from a working broswer release to a horrible one (due to it
    being out of date).
    FIREFOX 26.0 has 'issues' (ie new *features*/bugs)
    1) History is no longer accurate. My Proof? This machine is the primary one for the entire family (the only PC working). It is
    logged in with same user every time and never has its history cleared. It now January 7 so I ought to have a list of all of last
    months browing available to me.
    However, according to FIREFOX history, in all of December 2013, the entire family only went to 51 primary URL's. None of
    the official TV sites I use to get episodes are listed. None of the official movie sites I use are listed. The primary URL for
    ebay is not listed. Only 1 out of our 4 weather sites that I use (at least once a week) are listed. Only 1 of our 3 FINANCE
    sites is listed. There ought to be several; hundred root URLs listed.
    Please fix history as this change seriously "blows greasy chunks"
    PROBLEM (a stupid change in the new FIREFOX version)
    FOr a long time, after a crash you got a useful page (a real HTML page) which gave you a list of all of your last sessions
    'winwos and tabs' that were open when the browser crashed. there were certain ways of using this page that are no longer
    able to be done.
    The old method was wonderful as it had this behavior :
    *** The old method for displaying your 'Recovered Tabs' allowed you to :
    a) right click an individual item and open it in a tab without getting rid of that lovely window of your previous session of
    'recovered windows and tabs '.
    2) drag the URL for the entire window of 'recovered windows and tabs ' to a new tab (to make a second copy) so that you
    could select just a few of them to open as a group, and stil have the old list handy.
    You can no longer do either of these things. The 'recovered windows and tabs ' page no longer has links in it and can no longer be dragged, so you cant select a few of them to use, and keep the rest around for later. NOW - once you choose which pages to open the window is gone forever (can can't get a second copy).
    People used to make a copy of the page for later use (with a drag)
    we also used to open pages with a right click (which no longer functions
    This new method seriously blows big greasy chunks. A parge loss in function has occurred.
    Put things back as they were. 26 is full of terrible changes that NOBODY likes. It also has a lot of bugs (history is not reliable at all)

    (1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
    You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
    If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
    (2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
    Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

  • Problem with Frameset and page session

    All,
    I am having a problem with Framesets and page session attributes. I
    have a client who's application uses a three frame frameset. They
    have a requirement on several pages that when a button is pushed two
    different pages load into the right and left frames. The way they
    are accomplishing this is that on the pages were this is required,
    they are adding target="_top" to the form declaration in their JSP.
    Then they store the page names they want to display in session,
    forward the request to the frameset, the frameset then determines
    which pages to display based on the session variables. This works
    exactly how they want it to.
    Here is our problem. We need to store some information in page
    session attributes. We have tried to get a handle to the desired
    view bean and call the setPageSessionAttribute method. However,
    since we are forwarding to the frame and the frame handles displaying
    the desired JSP, that view bean we had the handle to is not the one
    that is created to hand the display of the JSP.
    The next thing I tried was to use the request object. In the
    handleBtnRequest method, I set an attribute in the request object. I
    then query the request object in the beginDisplay event of the view
    bean. When the frame is reset the request object does not contain
    the attribute that I have set. I'm confused by this because I
    thought the request object would be available to me throughout the
    life of the request.
    Given the above information, does anyone have any suggestions? Also,
    am I going about this in the wrong manner.
    The client had been storing this information in user session, which
    seemed to work. However, since the data being stored dealt
    specifically with data for the requested page, we felt that storing
    it as page session was more appropriate.
    Thanks,

    The script on your page web page has some obvious bugs.. Best
    fix those
    first before looking to blame Flash.

    Another option is the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60265/ Saved Password Editor] add-oin which allows you to add passwords for sites that disable password saving.

  • I cannot open Keynote and Pages in iPhone/iPad iOS 7

    After updating to iOS 7 and iWork for iOS, I'm no loger able to use iWork for iOS when iCloud is turned on.
    I've two apple accounts, one for Mexico store and another one for US store. A couple of yeard ago I purchased Numbers for iphone/ipad using MX account, and Keynote and Pages for iphone/ipad using my US account.
    Before updating to iOS 7, I was able to use iCloud for keynote, numbers and pages without any problem. All my documents were backed up on the MX account in iCloud. My iphone/ipad was logged into iCloud using my MX account all the time.
    After updating to iOS 7, I keep using my MX account for iCloud, but I'm no longer to open Keynote and Pages (which were purchased with my US account) when iCloud is activated for them.
    What's going wrong with apple?! I think iOS 7 is very buggy and it is the worst OS they have ever make available for users!!! Can't believe the amount of errors I keep finding in most of Apple apps!!!
    Please advice! Regards,

  • Page up and page down in ALV

    Hi all ,
         Page up and page down are not working automatically in my ALV Grid report. I have all set in my pf-status. Do i need to explicitly write any code for that or do i need to any setting for that plz let me know .
    regards
    rao

    Hi,
    i hope the problem is with the Pf-status,so try to do the following and see...
    Go to SE41 give the Program name SAPLKKBL
    and status as STANDARD
    now click Copy status (CTRL+F6), now give your Program name , and PF-status and copy it. now save it and activate the pf-satus which you have copied. and use it in your PF-status form.pass that status using the parameter call back status option.
    CALL FUNCTION 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
    EXPORTING
    * I_INTERFACE_CHECK = ' '
    * I_BYPASSING_BUFFER = ' '
    * I_BUFFER_ACTIVE = ' '
    i_callback_program = g_repid
    i_callback_pf_status_set = 'STATUS'
    i_callback_user_command = 'USER_COMMAND'
    2.
    FORM STATUS USING P_EXTAB TYPE SLIS_T_EXTAB.
    *- Pf status
    SET PF-STATUS 'STATUS' excluding p_extab.
    "this is i copied it from standard program
    ENDFORM.                 " STATUS
    now check it.

  • I have been working on a file in pages which I cannot open now. Every time I select it "an error occurred and pages must close" appears. Files sharing in itunes doesn't work either. Any suggestions?? THANK YOU

    I have been working on a file in pages which I cannot open now. Every time I select it "an error occurred and pages must close" appears and pages shuts down. I have tried to duplicate the document but cannot open the copy either. I am unable to email, share via iwork, itunes, idisk or WebDAV all of these options just close pages down. Does anyone have any ideas......Thank you

    And you are quite persistent, Menu Boy, in offering pernickety and pointless prattle, in response to a "support page" on iPad's buggy Pages App.
    Let's summarise, for those reviewing this threadless thread for app support..
    Mobile pages works reliably for simple docs, especially creating letters and Menus for Microsoft's Kindy canteen (even on special days with nice big pictures).
    When importing more complex docs and/or working with larger creations, it is prone to randomly corrupting files upon re-opening, along similar lines as Word (running on a PC).
    So, Menu Boy, do they let you sneak into classes every now and then? What is the secret to their training? "Say after me, if any I.T. product works just some of the time, that's a job well done, and if something randomly stops working, we call that the user's fault... And if they complain, we call them names."

    Just so you know.... this forum is answered by fellow users not Apple Developers who can use the crash log.  I suggest moving the preferences for Numbers and Pages to your desktop while both apps are nit running, then launch them.
    The preferences files are stored in the folder:
         /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences
    you should locate and move (to the desktop) the files:
         /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
         /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
    I usually go there by using the menu item (in the Finder) "Go > Go To Folder…"

  • Control the page height and page width of pdf report using pasta_pdf.cfg

    Hi All,
    I've followed the note: 338990.1 (how to print publisher PDF reports via the concurrent manager) in metalink to print a PDF REPORT. Everything work fine except the page height and page width is used as default (8X11). Is there anyway that i can custom page height and page width size such as: legal (8.5X14).
    current set up in pasta_pdf.cfg

    %% ============== Preprocessing Command ==================== %%
    % Pasta can use a preprocessing command to invoke any executable
    % that supports an input file and an output file (a filter program).
    % You can use redirection. Pasta will invoke the filter program
    % to preprocess the Pasta output before passing it to the printing
    % command. By using the preprocess option, you can generate output
    % formats other than the formats Pasta currently supports. For
    % example, you can generate PCL output.
    % You can use {infile} and {outfile} in this option.
    % {infile} is the output file generated by Pasta. You can use
    % it as input for the preprocessing command. It is a temporary
    % file and will be deleted after being passed to the
    % preprocessing command. {outfile} is the output file generated
    % by the preprocessing command. Pasta names it temporarily and
    % it will be deleted after being passed to the printing command.
    % If you want to keep it, you can name it by using the '-o'
    % command line option. Pasta will copy {outfile} to the file you
    % specify.
    % Preprocess for PDF output
    % This is an example for PDF output to print.
    ; Xpdf
    preprocess=/usr/local/bin/pdftops {infile} {outfile}
    ; Ghost Script
    ; preprocess=pdf2ps {infile} {outfile}
    ; Acrobat
    ; preprocess=acroread -toPostScript -pairs {infile} {outfile}
    %% ============== Printing Command ========================= %%
    % You can specify the printing command and options you want
    % to use to print your report. Pasta will pass the final output
    % to this command. {printername} will be replaced by the
    % actual printer name passed through the command line option
    % (-pn), so in most cases you don't have to change these
    % options.
    % for UNIX platform
    printCommand=lp -c -d{printername}
    % for Windows platform
    ntPrintCommand=print /D:{printername}
    %% ============== Error Log File =========================== %%
    % This tells Pasta to create a log file. The default error
    % output is stderr.
    ;errorlogfile=pasta.log
    NOTE: pasta version 3.0.4
    form server 6.0.8.27.0
    third party tool is pdftops
    Thanks
    Kevin

  • Print, Export and Page Navigation Buttons in the Report

    When I view a report through CR4E, the generated report has 3 buttons namely Print, Export and Page Navigation buttons. But when I click on either of the buttons I get a &#39;null pointer exception&#39;. This is a critical error as I am unable to navigate past the first page. Do I have to add code to these buttons? If not, why am I getting an error? Kindly solve my problem as soon as possible.

    <p>Looking at your code it appears that you are storing the ReportSource in session prior to passing in the ResultSet. This will create a problem when a postback is made on  the viewer page (which all of the viewer actions do). If you look at the sample code which is generated when you use the JSP Page Wizard you will notice that the ResultSet is passed to the ReportClientDocument object prior to it being stored in session. Then, when the page is called again this object is retrieved and the ReportSource is used by the viewer. You can quickly run the test using one of our sample reports to see what I am talking about. The code below was generated using the Consolidated Balance Sheet.rpt and did not experience any problems doing any of the viewer actions.</p><%@page import="com.businessobjects.samples.JRCHelperSample,<br />com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.CrystalReportViewer,<br />com.crystaldecisions.reports.sdk.ReportClientDocument,<br />com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.OpenReportOptions,<br />com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportSDKExceptionBase,<br />com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.reportsource.IReportSource,<br />java.sql.Connection,<br />java.sql.DriverManager,<br />java.sql.ResultSet,<br />java.sql.SQLException,<br />java.sql.Statement"%><%<br /><br /><br />    try {<br /><br />        String reportName = "Sample Reports/Consolidated Balance Sheet.rpt";<br />        ReportClientDocument clientDoc = (ReportClientDocument) session.getAttribute(reportName);<br /><br />        if (clientDoc == null) {<br /><br />            clientDoc = new ReportClientDocument();<br />            <br />            // Open report<br />            clientDoc.open(reportName, OpenReportOptions._openAsReadOnly);<br /><br />  <br />            {<br />                // **** POPULATE MAIN REPORT ****<br />                {<br />                     // Connection Info for fetching the resultSet<br />                    String connectStr = "jdbc:derby:classpath:/Xtreme";<br />                    String driverName = "org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver";<br />                    String userName = "dbuser";        // TODO: Fill in database user<br />                    String password = "dbpassword";    // TODO: Fill in valid password<br /><br />                    String query = "SELECT CUSTOMER_NAME FROM APP.CUSTOMER WHERE COUNTRY = &#39;Australia&#39;";<br /><br />                    <br />                    String tableAlias = "FINANCIALS";        // TODO: Change to correct table alias<br /><br />                     <br />                    JRCHelperSample.passResultSet(clientDoc, fetchResultSet(driverName, connectStr, userName, password, query),<br />                        tableAlias, "");<br />                }<br /><br /><br />            }<br />        <br />            // Store the report document in session<br />            session.setAttribute(reportName, clientDoc);<br /><br />        }<br /><br /><br />            {<br />                // Create the CrystalReportViewer object<br />                CrystalReportViewer crystalReportPageViewer = new CrystalReportViewer();<br /><br />                //    set the reportsource property of the viewer<br />                IReportSource reportSource = clientDoc.getReportSource();                <br />                crystalReportPageViewer.setReportSource(reportSource);<br /><br />                // set viewer attributes<br />                crystalReportPageViewer.setOwnPage(true);<br />                crystalReportPageViewer.setOwnForm(true);<br /><br />                // Process the report<br />                crystalReportPageViewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, application, null); <br /><br />            }<br />            <br /><br />    } catch (ReportSDKExceptionBase e) {<br />        out.println(e);<br />    } <br />    <br />%><%!<br />// Simple utility function for obtaining result sets that will be pushed into the report.  <br />// This is just standard querying of a Java result set and does NOT involve any <br />// Crystal JRC SDK functions. <br /><br />    private static ResultSet fetchResultSet(String driverName,<br />            String connectStr, String userName, String password, String query) throws SQLException, ClassNotFoundException {<br /><br />        //Load JDBC driver for the database that will be queried    <br />        Class.forName(driverName);<br /><br />        Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection(connectStr, userName, password);<br />        Statement statement = connection.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);<br /><br />        //Execute query and return result sets<br />        return statement.executeQuery(query);<br /><br />}%><p>Try using the code generated from the wizard to see if it works for you as well. </p><p>Regards,<br />Sean Johnson (CR4E Product Manager) </p>
