Looking for opinions on the FxFactoy Plugin. Is it worth it? Any bugs? Performance issues?

I am biased, yes but the boys from Noise Industries were first on the block in harnessing Quartz Composer & FxPlug technology together. When they first released FxFactory, a lot of competitors scoffed at the new technology. A few years in, they are desperately trying to keep up.
As you said, download the installer as most plugins have a 15 day free trial. You can then make up your mind for yourself.

2 imacs v 1mbp for use with FCP and motion.

I'm in need of advice. I'm in the market for a new computer(s).
Let me give you a rundown on my situation.
HOME COMPUTER- dual 800 1GIG ram G4. probably 6-7 years old -i got it 2nd hand in 03 i think-
(its about 6 years old and very noisy and update needed)
WORK COMPUTER- AL PB G4 1.5ghz 2gig ram 17". Bees knees when released almost 4 years ago.
(redering and Motion are getting beyond tiresome with how slow they are).
The WORK computer I do all my editing on while the HOME computer I use for internet surfing, itunes etc. I use FCP for editing wedding dvds, work related videos etc. but I'm thinking of taking a break from the wedding filming & editing business to concentrate on other things. I will still continue to edit and film but not as much in the past 6 years. As of last week I don't have any projects or side jobs in the pipeline but that may change within 6 months.
MY QUESTION- What should I get?
1. 1 x 2.6 Ghz 4gig Ram 17" MBP at around 3,500 dollars (i'm in japan so about 360,000yen) and then use my AL powerbook as my home computer
OR
2. 2 x imac 20inch with 4gig ram which i think comes in at just under the MBP price
OR
3. 1 x imac 24" 4gig ram & 1x imac 20" with 4gig ram.
Is final cut pro and motion3 going to work better on the imacs than on my current AL powerbook? surely!
I still use motion1 and that really pushes my computer to it's limits. and the last 2 years have been a hectic one editing wise so I didn't want to upgrade computers during the course of projects ongoing.
(playing with fire in my books)
THING IS i need to be able to edit at both work and home. I take a my laptop with me to work everyday, but if I were to get 2 desktops I could just use external hard drives for my projects (which I do anyway). That's why if both computers are desktops they both need to be able to handle motion 3 and fcp6 to a competent level. and if I got two desktops I could try and sell my AL PB. It's still in superb condition due to me keeping it sleeved whenever not in use.
I heard rumours that apple will be releasing new imacs sooner rather than later as well.
ANY thoughts would be highly appreciated.

From what I've read on this forum, FCP doesn't work properly with two video cards.

Two Radeons 3870 with FCP and Motion?

Hi!
Have you tried to use two 3870 with FCP and Motion?
I just wanted to have all 512MB of video RAM for my canvas and use the second card with my Matrox MXO to display broadcast preview.
I know it could be risky, but as I remember earlier the problems shows only while rendering some of the plugins in FCP (my test was on 2006).
Do you have any experience with pair of 3870 cards?

How do I set-up my memory amount for max speed for FCP and Motion

Hey all, I have a Dual 2.3 G5 with (8 Gigs) Ram. I'm working with a new client. I want to set up my memory or whatever else to provide MAXIMUM processing power for FCP and MOTION. Does anyone have any recommended settings. I've maxed-our RAM. My card is (ATI Radeon 9600-128MB of VRAM)
Is there a setting in FCP that allows more processing power to be applied to that application ?

Most of FCP's speed in performing functions is directly related to processor speed. The only way to increase performance would be to use a Mac with faster processors. Performance is also related to data throughput, so if you're working with high data rate video formats, a fast RAID and/or SATA (or eSATA) media storage solution would help.
The exception to FCP performance is when rendering/processing FX Plugs; they are dependent on the power of the graphics card.
Motion is mostly dependent on the power of the graphics card.
There is no way that I'm aware of that you can speed up RAM. Having the extra RAM will just mean that you can successfully work with more applications open at the same time.

there was an option (looping) in CS5 but how can i do it in CC and CS6?

shape tweening can only be applied to raw drawn shapes, no movieclips. IF you wanted to do a shape tween to a movieclip it would have to be done within the timeline in the movieclip.

How to Uninstall older version of Final Cut and Motion

I have a older academic version of Final Cut and Motion. I ordered a Full blown version of Final Cut Studio 2 that should arrive this week. How do I uninstall my old version of software? I don't want them conflicting with the new version.
My other question deals with performance. I'm running a Dual 2.5GHz G5 with 6G of ram. Video Board is the ATI x800XT. Will this system work for editing HDV or am I going to need to buy a new Intel based computer? I really don't want to spend 4K for a new system.

Compressor and Motion don't open...

They were working before I: a) downloaded trial version of Shake, b) downloaded the trial of Parallels for Mac or c) downloaded latest versions of software updates. Have Final Cut Studio Academic...cleared out the pref settings for compressor and Motion.

Hey, rookie mistake - thought it would be best to get a second opinion (or group of opinions) - so I actually triple posted (also in the Compressor group).
Anyway, I reinstalled FCP and Motion works now - Compressor still crashes but I'm not concerned about that for now...and that would fall into THAT discussion group, if I'm learning my netiquette correctly

Java Object Physics and Motions

I want to learn object physics and motion.
I would like to learn how to create smooth effects, such as rollover effects, sliding windows and smooth object transitions. I want a place to start as I have little physics knowledge and the highest math I achieved is Pre-Calculus.
I'm down for suggestions.

Start with rigid body mechanics - Newton's laws. Work up from there. Any intro physics text will do.

Filter and Motion tabs...

I want to save a Window layout with my Effects, Filters, and Motion tabs in their own space. Upon launch, they are always back where they originate, or not there at all. And when I double click a clip in the timeline the filters tab re-appears in the viewer window. Any way I can override this feature?

I don't think you can change this. I have tried many times to seperate the tabs from their original windows but they always return open reopening that window or returning to FCP. It seems as if the window locations can only be saved but no locations when tearing off tabs.

FCP 7 and Motion 5, do you know if they work together?

If one wants to keep editing in FCP 7 but also wants to use Motion 5, do you know if they work together and can send things easily back and forth between the two like FCP 7 and Motion 4?
Also, does Motion 5 over write Motion 4? Thanks

On my system, all the old apps were indeed transferred to the new 'applications/Final Cut Studio' folder (including Color, Sountrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and so on). It didn't say that so I missed it at first.
You may want to make backup copies on your mac before installing the new apps just to be on the safe side, though.
After installing the new versions, you can still use Motion 4, Compressor 3.5 and FCP 7 out of the backup folder.
Compressor 4 will work with mov files (both self contained and referenced) created from FCP 7. I haven't tried to send a timeline from FCP 7 to Compressor 4 yet but since so little has been changed in Compressor 4 I guess that will also work.
Anyway, you could always go back to Compressor 3.5 if needed.

Integration between FCPX and Motion ?

How do I move from/to the two softwares to edit a clip already in my timeline and have it back once edited ?

You create in Motion, publish it as a Final Cut Generator. It shows up in the Generators palette in FCP X. You then edit it in Motion by right-clicking on the generator and selecting Open In Motion. You do your edit in Motion, save it, go back to FCP X, drag the generator over the existing one in the timeline to replace. I have no clue why it just doesn't update it in the timeline for you.
It's funny because the integration of FCP X and Motion 5 is way more advanced than After Effects and Premiere Pro because of rigging and publishing (very powerful stuff) but it doesn't do true roundtripping.

I'm pretty sure "the current price of the offering" means the price at the time they renew, as opposed to the "current" price (meaning today).
I'm not a lawyer though, so I could be 100% wrong.

Just want to record motion detect video with WVC80N

All I want to do is record motion detected video while I'm at work and view it when I get home. I don't want remote access and I don't care about email notifications. Does someone have some SIMPLE instructions for how to get this working? I've read many of the posts on this forum and found all kinds of complex setups involving multiple webpages and port forwarding, etc., etc. I just can't believe it's this complicated just to set up something simple. BTW -- I have no problem viewing live video either through the camera utility or via web browser. I can do instant recordings, but no motion detected video. IMHO the camera itself is great, but the support is pathetic. Camera utility program is terrible.

Live Type and Motion for keynote

I want to make an animation that is the same as Steve Jobs Macworld Keynote 2007.
But, as you know that keynote doesn't support animation path. So if I use motion and Live Type, can I make that kind of animation?

yes, you could make a file that's a 1024x768 sixed movie, where the object moves in from off the side of the screen, follows a path and stops.

Advanced Radial and Motion Blur

Adding a couple of additional settings for radial and motion blur would be very appreciated.
Currently they are applied to the both sides of a sample.
Can we also have:
- limited motion blur which is applied to one of the sides of a sample
- radial blur with two additional options: one with blur towards the centre and one - away from the centre.
That would allow rear and front curtain flash synch immitation.
A couple of other useful improvements for the radial blur:
- optional preview inside the dialogue for positioning the centre of the blur (preview can be static if performance does not allow)
- ability to position the centre of the blur outside of the frame

Think about this a bit.
Take a simple case: a blue box on a white background, and a blur to the right. On the right edge of the box, the blue pixels get blurred into the white background - just what you want. But on the left edge of the box, the white pixels get blurred into the blue box -- not what you want. And that will happen for any blur**, because it doesn't know about edges, or planes, or foreground/background -- it can only blur the pixels in the image.
You can do directional blurs today with several tools in Photoshop. But you cannot do shape isolated blurs on a single layer because the blur has no way of knowing what should contribute and what should not: what's in front, and what is in back.
What you can do is isolate the foreground shapes by putting them on a separate layer, so the background colors can no longer contribute.
But those "perfect" motion blurs you illustrated aren't going to happen with a single filter operation.
** Edge preserving blurs like SurfaceBlur and Median may look like they know about edges, but they don't. They still operate on values and don't understand separation or direction.
