Opinion - what's the best protective "skin" for my Macbook Air

Hi
need some advice. I bought a Zagg Invisible Shield and started 'installing' in - I only got the bottom done and decided I HATE the fact it makes my Mac feel and look shiny - hardly invisible....
So - for the time being I am naked except for the bottom shell. I want to protect the rest of my Mac but I don't want it shiny - I love the satin feel of it. I also don't want to put some clunky platsic cover on my Mac that adds millimetres to the size. I bought it because it is sleek, slim and satiny and I want it to remain that way - am I destined to remain forever naked or does someone have some advice on what to use for protection?

My cousin has this one on his Air. I was quite impressed with it. Especially the feel, and thin-ness.

I am eager to buy one myself, but with a 1-2 month wait, I might not have the current version Air by the time it becomes available.
This is the one I have now. I like it, but it does add a bit too much dimensionally.

  • What is the best protective skin for the Macbook Pro's?

    Good evening all!
I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and I have used a Zaggskin with custom astronomy pictures on them.  I love the protection from Zagg, but was really depressed when I found out that Zagg discontinued the custom graphics and now only have clear.
Does anyone out there know of any complete skin wraps that are both colorful and have nice images?  A bonus would have the ability to make custom images for it.  I see many out there, but they seem to be the non-protective vinyl and not the tougher protective materials.
    Any help would be great!
    - Ty

I am using the NOTEPAL by COOLER MASTER (Widescreen model)
    http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/ProductList.aspx?catID=606
It is very nice! However, if possible try to look for it outside North America. This is because North America only has it in black, while outside of N.A. they have the natural aluminum colour. Also, outside of N.A. they have a version that is made for Apple Laptops which has three fans instead of two.
The whoel thing is made of aluminum which is a heat sink itself and it has 2 fans attached, my MBP never overheats. CoreDuoTemp always gives me a temperature around 37C to 40C.
It also elevtes teh laptop so it's more ergonomic.

  • What is the best os x for a Macbook Air mid 2011?

    Hello friends,
Just looking for some suggestions and opinions
I have a Macbook Air mid 2011 2 gb ram 64 gb ssd.
It came with osx lion but i'm baffled about if i should upgrade to osx Mountain Lion, just worried about how wouild it perform and any advantages versus Osx Lion
Please let me know your opinioons and suggestions.
    Thanks all

I would not recommend upgrading because 1) You have the minimum ram to upgrade.  2) Also, look at the features.  If their are none that you feel you need, then their is really no reason to upgrade.

  • What's the best protective shield for my 3GS?

    Hi Everyone,
Sorry to bother, but I just got a new iPhone 3GS and I'm wondering what's the best protector to put on the phone. I understand the 3GS has a new type of "coating" on the screen so I don't want to do any damage to it. I also heard the 3GS has these proximity sensors so I don't want to get a case that will interfere with that. Anyhow, I wanted to get an Invisible Shield, a full body one, but wanted to make sure I don't do damage to the phone. I've read the forums and it seems there is no definitive answer on whether or not the Invisible Shield is the best one. Any iPhone experts know what's the best protective shield for the 3GS? And will the Invisible Shield do any damage to the screen or coating on the new 3GS? I talked to a person at Apple and they didn't think it would do any damage, but to be honest, she didn't sound as knowledgeable as I would like. I'm sorry for being paranoid. Can you guys chime in?
    Thanks!

The reason for no definite answer is that it matters what YOU are looking for in a case or protective screen cover...
To answer your shield question...the shield product itself will not damage the phone and that coating is not to prevent scratches...it's to help prevent fingerprints...since you plan to put a screen cover on then that coating doesn't really matter...HOWEVER, the way that the shield can harm the phone is IF it's not properly installed by YOU...since the design of that product calls for a liquid solution agent to be used to adhere the cover to the case of the phone, others have gone overboard with that liquid and then ended up with water damaged phones due to the faulty install...If you install properly then it's not an issue
Personally I used a full shield cover on a previous phone and hated it...so again it's all up to your taste...
What I currently have now is the simple Apple sold Anti-Glare screen cover you can buy two to a pack for 15.00 at Apple store...I have used since first Gen iPhone and loved it...
I have a Case-Mate leather hard plastic case but am not thrilled with it since the edges are raised around the edges of the screen and sometimes prevent me from hitting a button right up against the screen edge...so I don't use it much...
Other covers made by Case-Mate like the Barely There cover don't have that problem...so you really need to shop around and see what case you like and what you dislike...
Cases specifically sold to be compatible with 3GS will not interfere with either the proximity or any other sensor on the phone face...

  • What is the best protective case for the iPhone 4s?

What is the best protective case for the iPhone 4s? If I drop my phone I don't want it to crack or break. How protective is the Gorrila Glass?

I am using the Otterbox Defender, and it's a great case.
Gorilla glass is a glass applied to phones (not the iPhone, it does not use Corning branded glass), but the iPhone screen is pretty good against scratches.

  • What is the best protective case for 2011 13" Macbook Pro

What is the best protective case for 2011 13" Macbook Pro (that can withstand an active 4 year old :).   My 4 year old plays with the teaching apps on my iPhone 4 in the otterbox case and its great - the bulkiness of the otterbox not an issue and I love being able to give the phone to him and feel completely comforatable. I would love to find something to protect my Macbook Pror. Thanks for any help!!

I would definitely go for a Hardsheel or a Perforated Hardshell Case

What's best is relative to your expectations.  In my opinion, you don't need one.

What is the best antivirus software for a Macbook Pro...I recently received a message from Google that someone made an attempt to hack into my mail account and I needed to change my PW and verify myself as the user.  The message suggested that I run a virus scan to check for sny malware or other types of viruses.  I do not have any software for this and up until now have not had a problem....any help is appreciated.  I would like a simple but effective solution!

It's worth noting that if your Gmail has been hacked, it would likely have nothing to do with your MacBook.  Hacking web based email is fairly common and it doesn't require any access to your machine whatsoever.  In the same way that you can simply go to the Gmail webpage through any browser, any hacker can use the same method.  It doesn't mean your machine has been compromised in any way (and it has likely not been).  I have never received an email from Google of this nature.  I have received notifications when someone has attempted to create an account with my name in which they basically say that there is no action required if you're the rightful owner.

  • What is the best hardshell case for 13" macbook pro??

I wanted to know what is the best hardshell case for the 13 inch macbook pro(2010). I want one for school usage because i will be taking it around. Also i want one that doesnt scratch the macbook's aluminum.
    THANKS!

I think the best / strongest / hardest cases are the MacTruck
They aren't light but mine's been round the world a few times and kept my MBP safe in some crazy situations (like schools can be)

  • What is the Best Utility program for my Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook Pro 2.33 with OS 10.4.10. I would like to know what is the best utility program to help with my computer. I used to use Norton Utilities, but I don't think they support 10.4. Is Tech Tool Pro a good program.
    Thanks.

Is Tech Tool Pro a good program.
    Yes.

  • What is the best protection plan for the 5s?

I have VZW, we just upgraded our phones and got a 5s and 5c at Best Buy. I was just curious to see what protection plan you guys recommend? I have 3 choices. We purchased the phones on 12/27/13 so I don't know how much more time we have before the deadline for a plan kicks in. I have 5 choices though.
The Best Buy protection plan, Verizon Wireless TEC plan or AppleCare+, SquareTrade & Protect Your Bubble. What do you think is best?
I currently have the TEC plan from VZW. I had a HTC Rezound and the TEC plan was on that line for $8 I believe. Once I upgraded to the iPhone through BB, my plan changed to the TEC plan for the iPhone which is now $9.99 if I remember correctly. Anyways, I can cancel it anytime. My wife's phone doesn't have the TEC, that it why were trying to figure out what PP to get for our phones.  I've never lost a phone before. My HTC Rezound did break a few times. A few times it was the hardware just not working and I got a refurb sent for free. But I did break the screen 1 time and was happy that I had insurance, I only had to pay $75 versus $200 something. I only broke it once in the 2 1/2 years I had it, but it did happen. God forbid I break the iPhone screen or something, I don't have $800 for a new one.
We currently have AC+ for our iPad Air but it was a spur of the moment buy since I was in the Apple Store.
    Thanks everyone

I know the "basics" of AC, I just didn't know if any of the other insurances come close? I have a few other questions if you don't mind, don't know if you can answer them or not...
    - What are Apples claim guidelines, does the phone have to be non repairable to use a claim? What if the screen is just cracked or there is a giant dent on the side, heavy cosmetic damage? Does AC cover water damage? How does that all work?
    -  I read over at the macrumors forum that Apple can replace your iPhone without using AC? Here is the quote:
"It's worth noting that even without AC, Apple will replace your phone for $250 if you broke it and it is in no more than two pieces." Is there any truth to that statement?
    - Say I break my phone, I pay the $79 deductible, I understand that part but do I have to pay for the replacemt and if so how much? I saw that some insurances require you pay, an example, $50 deductible plus $120 for the replacement.
I know the major downside against AC is that it doesn't cover lost or stolen devices and only a total of 2 claims allowed. I've never lost any of my Android phones but I've heard iPhones are pretty high up on the theft list.
If I did happen to break my iPhone 5s or crack the screen, whatever it may be, I just want to get the fastest service possible and cheap too. I don't want to have wait 3 days or more to get a replacement and I also don't want to pay a huge amontunt of money to get a replacemt either. I have AC on my iPad Air, I bought it because I was in the store and I jumped the gun before checking out other options. Anyways, I'm about to pull the trigger and get AC for my 5s and 5c, it's just that SquareTrade has caught my attention too and I'm torn between them. I saw that ST offer 4 claims and honors lost and stole devices. I didn't think this would be suck a tough decision lol.
Again, thanks for your input and help, much appreciated

  • What's the best game controller for a MacBook Pro?

I have a mid-2012, non-Retina, 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.5 Ghz i5 and 8 GB of RAM. My current OS is 10.9.1. I've played Starcraft 2 for some time without any problems, but there are a few newer games on the Mac App Store that look like they'd be no fun with a keyboard and mouse. I'm hoping people here have recommendations for the best game pads or controllers that are compatible with Mac.
Please let me know if you have a controller that works really well for you, thanks!

I like the Logitech Gamepad F310 for games on my Mac. You're right new games are much better with a game controller!

  • What is the best cooling pad for a MacBook Pro

I use the laptop in a variety of settings.  It gets really hot on my lap and was wondering if anyone has used a cooling pad they like for this problem.

I'm sure someone will jump in with the best of the best. FWIW the MBP is not a laptop it is a notebook. And as you've probably read in your User Guide does not belong on your lap.
