Opinions on Flex modes?

Just curious as to which Flex mode people are finding most natural for quantizing guitar & vocals - my general feeling so far is that the mono is usually best, but I'm not too experienced with it yet. I have not found any setting that seems to be as natural as doing the same thing in Melodyne editor.

I just flexed an old cassette recording (vocal+acoustic guitar recorded via two microphones into a consumer HIFI nineties cassettedeck), and I found that the "complex" algorithm worked nicest. I would not use mono for anything else than monophonic thingies, though I have not done any extensive comparison. I got a bit of phase shifting here and there, but since the cassette was old, it sounded quite choppy to begin with... LSS: use "complex" for anything with melodic or harmonic content.

  • Apple loops shrinks creating a gap when Flex mode is on

I've notice this happens me always with any apple loop.
when drag to the arrange window, it behaves at it should, (say, 8 beats, occupy 2 measures and loop correctly),
after flex is applied on that same track/loop, it shortens and doesn't loop correctly leaving a gap at the end as you can see in the bottom screen I've sent.
I would like to preserve the length of the loop, after applying Flex mode too.
This is happening independently if I import loop tempo or not, and in two other machines at the studio.
    What can cause this?
Can you please tell me what prefs I have to turn on or off, so the loop behaves has it should.
    Thank you

  • Mac Mini (late 2012) ram upgrade: 8gb dual channel vs 10gb? Flex Mode?

I attempted to upgrade my Mac Mini (late 2012) from the stock 4gb of ram to 8gb. However, I messed up and didn't pay attention when buying the ram online and ordered 1x8gb stick rather than 2x4. Will losing dual channel with a 2/8 combo (10gb) make a difference that I will notice? Will having the additional 2gb make up for any lost performance? And finally, is flex mode available with the Mac Mini so that I'd still be running 4gb at dual channel and 6gb single?
The 8gb stick arrived and I'd like to install it but Ill send it back and get the 2x4 depending on what I hear back.
    Thanks
    Ryan

to the best of my knowledge, when upgrading your Mac mini's RAM, you must upgrade it with 2 SODIMM's at a time. When I bought my Mac mini Late 2012 model it had all the base level specs. Pretty soon the stock 4GB (2x 2GB) just wasn't fast enough. I bought a Crucial 16GB upgrade from Amazon (2x 8GB) and now my Mini is much faster especially when I am using Photoshop.
Only thing I would do next is trying to swap the boot HD to a SSD, but am unsure as my Mac mini late 2012 is under AppleCare through December 2015 and I do not know if it would void the warranty.

  • How can I get my camera to use auto frame - flex mode in the "P" mode. I can't get it.

When I use the "P" mode for stills Auto Frame is not highlighted and so I cannot get Flex Mode.   Is there something
wrong with my camera or is Flex Mode only available for C1 or C2.  Page 266 of the manual says its available yet there is not way I can get it.
If anyone else has this problem please let me know.
    thank you

    Hi Ssobel,
The FlexiZone mode is turned off when the camera is set to certain modes, such as "Continuous Shooting AF" (described on page 127 of your PowerShot SX50 HS Manual).
You may clear this and other settings by choosing the "Reset All" menu option.  To access this, press the MENU button and navigate to the "Settings Tab" (you'll see the wrench and hammer icon).  Scroll down to "Reset All" and press the FUNC SET button.  Use the left or right arrow to choose "OK", then press FUNC SET again.

  • My Macbook Pro now 10GB RAM is this Flex mode?

Hey everyone, I just upgrade my Macbook Pro Ram. So the default is 2GB + 2GB = 4GB RAM now I took one 2GB stick out and install 8GB RAM in the slot. Now my MAC is 10GB RAM. It run so smooth, but I don't know if this Dual Channel, Single Channel or Flex. Someone told me this is Flex mode because I have 4GB Dual Channel and 6GB single channel. Is there any program to check which channel? By the way my Mac is 15 inch, non-retina, 2.3Ghz, Late 2012 but I bought in mid-2013 Haha.

  • Data replication monitoring on MDG flex mode objects with Information Steward

    Hi,
I am exploring different options available to setup data replication monitors on SAP MDG custom objects(flex mode). Basically my requirement is to setup rules in SAP Information steward which identifies if there are any missing records or mismatch between the data in MDG system and the replicated systems.
The challenge I am facing is that the tables generated by MDG framework for flex mode are not consistent and they keep changing if we change some key information in the MDG data model. Also the generated tables are not the same in each environment (like development, quality, production). Appreciate if anybody can provide suggestions on handling the MDG generated tables in SAP Information Steward.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Goutham

    Hi Abdullah,
Thanks for your reply. I cannot write any ABAP code in Information Steward. As you mentioned I can always use MDG API to pull the active data from MDG but here I can only give the table names.
The other option as you mentioned, using DRF I can replicate the data in flat files to Information steward, but it is not making sense as I am validating with replicated data and not with actual data available in MDG. Other point is I don't think it is a good idea to replicate all the records periodically.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Turning on Flex Mode changes timing of source audio

A multitrack project I'm working on requires some timing correction on one of the tracks. I turned on Flex Mode and set the track Flex menu to monophonic. The expected analysis of the track occurs, but then it appears as if it's already been subjected to Flex editing. Certain portions of the region show up as green, and others as orange, as if they've already been edited. Also, and this is the larger problem: the timing is all off! Turning on flex automatically extends the track a good 20 seconds in time, totally messing up the timing of the track relative to the others.
I am not that experienced using Flex, but I have certainly never run into this before.

    Hi Fox,
Yes, this is definitely the cause of the offset of timing. I had to beat map the project in order to easily replace all the drums. The performance was unacceptable, so I used Audio to Score to convert the drum performance to MIDI, then loaded the MIDI into an EZ Drummer instrument. I was going bonkers guessing the timing corrections to improve the drums, so I beat mapped the bass/guitar tracks so I could edit the drums to a grid. It made a huge difference, but now I want to edit the bass track to correct a few timing issues, and that's where I ran into the offset flex audio. I think the most practical thing for me to do at this point is just edit by slicing regions, but now I've also run into an issue with the marquee tool, which I posted another thread about. I can't chop anything with the marquee tool! Augh! My only way to cut stuff is with the playhead slice or the scissor tool. AUGH!
    Anyhoo, thanks for your help.
    cheers,
    Wally

  • Flex mode doesn't work with beat mapping?

If I turn Flex Mode on for Region A, and make a tempo change in the Tempo Track, the tempo slows down and the number of beats in the region stays the same, as expected. However, if I create the same change in the Tempo Track by dragging a point on the beat ruler in the Beat Mapping track to a transient in Region B on another track, the tempo of Region A does not change.
If I turn Region A into an Apple Loop, turn Flex Mode off, and go through the same beat mapping process the tempo for Region A slows down, as expected.
So Flex Mode does not appear to work with beat mapping. Is this a bug or a feature?

This a user to user forum, Apple doesn't read it. If you have feedback please send it to www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Flex Mode - Speed not working on all files

    Hello,
I've recently been working on a rather large session and when the ver9 came out I was very excited to see and play with the flex mode, finally a destructive pitch that is easier than the "Time Pitch tool".
I've been using it a lot in this project and then a few days ago getting it to use speed mode got a bit flakey. For a short time I was able to set it back to one of the other modes then back to speed and have it work, but that isn't working anymore. I can still use speed mode on files I set back when it was working, but any new files I import and try to use it won't work.
This is one of the biggest sessions I've ever had, 100+/- tracks with quite a lot of dsp going on, is it possible that has something to do with it?
I have plenty of HD space free (600+GB), 6Gb Ram, and a dual 2.8Ghz quad core.
Any ideas please, I really miss my brand new cool Flex mode tool.
I can still go in to the Time and Pitch machine and do it there, but that takes a whole lot more time, especially when I'm trying to line up with other tracks.
So frustrating when the "speed" mode of pitch shifting is the easiest of all the modes, computationally speaking, just resample, no math at all, but its the mode I as a sound designer use the most.
    Thanks,
    james

Thanks for the response but no, I'm talking about the new "Flex Mode" pitch shift in LogicPro 9. It has multiple modes for different types of pitch shift and the "speed" mode is the mode I'm trying to use and not having any luck.
Sound Toy's? How is that used in Logic? Is it through the "Time and Pitch Machine"? If not I'd love to hear how its used and if it can do the basic faster/slower pitch shift? Otherwise the basic "Classic" shift does what I want there, but that is really hard to line up when sync is more important than pitch or even tempo. Most of the time I just want to pitch stuff way down, 2 or 3+ octaves and not get all the artifacts that come with trying to match pitch or tempo, just your basic resample pitch shifting:).

  • Flex mode on audio region and audio to midi quantize makes Logic crash..

Need confirmation on this also.. Choose an audio track and select Flex mode. Double click on the audio region so you get the sample editor. Choose Factory > Audio to MIDI Groove Template.. Select Try and then Use.. Logic freezes and goes down.

Yes it does it all the time here ...and creates (crashed) (crashed) (crashed) versions of the project.
If you open the original project it opens OK ...when you try to open any of these (crashed) ones it crashes again..
It's the same with audio to score...when you press Use
They have removed the Groove template function from the Menu as well....although you can do it via Quantize in the inspector ...would be nice to be in the menu though....

  • Cross fades not working in flex mode.

    Hey there,
i have an audio region in Logic Pro X (latest update) that's using the flex pitch mode. When I want to cross fade it with another region, it just doesn't work. Seems to be a bug or am I wrong?
    Greetings,

Me too. Does the fade tool move your region las if you just had the cursor selected?
Looks like there are quite a few threads on this topic to check out.

    You're welcome,
you were clear before ...no it doesn't crash ..i tried it again on a different/new audio track with monophonic flex enabled b4 dragging the audio clips(short audio drum tracks) on that track
    maybe because I'm on 10.5.7?

  • Flex Time error: Too many disk I/) tasks (Elastic Audio)...

I've been using flex time to take a sample in straight time and make it swing, but I've been having playback issues. I get two different error windows 1) Extreme compress factor detected during playback (Elastic Audio) (-10025) and 2) Too many disk I/O tasks (Elastic Audio). Also, I occasionally get a loud static sound when playing the sample. I don't have this issue when in Flex mode if I only loop the sample twice, but if I try to loop it more than twice, I'll get the errors and/or the static sound. At no point do the stretches make the audio color red, so I don't think I'm over-stretching or over-compressing the audio Is there any way to solve this? Does flex time have limitations to the number of markers used?

Yeah, the I/O error is because you're basically pushing it too hard, it can't read what you're doing fast enough to process it. I got this the other day when I was trying to use flex within a take folder over multiple comped takes.
If you want to swing the audio, why don't you cut it into regions, send it to the EXS 24 and then quantise the samples with swing in the piano roll. That way you're not putting so much pressure on the processor.

  • Is there a way to get my flex pitch data back?

I finished flex pitching all my vocals so I went on the flex timing (mono). When I finished I went back to flex pitch and all my flex pitch data was gone.

Look in your undo history. alt-cmd-Z.
You cannot apply different flex modes on the same audio file.
    But...
Flex Pitch can also be use to time flex, so there's no need to switch to monophonic.

  • Need flex time help, lots of songs, lots of BPM's multiple tempos

Newbie here, trying to finally make the switch from Pro Tolls to Logic and flex time really sold me but I'm having some growing pains that I need to speed up for my current project.
I have about 20 songs that I need to:
first, find the bpm for each (quickly)
second, be able to mark them in a way that the bpm for each song would change to match the tempo track (which will fluctuate through out the editing process)
third, some how still have control of the anchor point in flex time which seems to get locked
In the end I am trying to create a remix of multiple songs that start off with different bpm's and fluctuating tempo.
I am able to do most of this but I think I am missing some steps, or perhaps the order of steps, that would make this process go much faster. I have worked other programs such as Ableton Live and elastic time in Pro Tools and at times it seems I can handle whole songs better in those programs than in Logic but I'm sure it more user error than the actual program.
I welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks.

Received this advice and responded on another forum but still need help.
    Thanks for the response!
Had a few problems trying your suggestions.
*"Finding BPM: select the audio region and choose from the local Arrange area menu: Audio > Detect Tempo."*
Since it is a whole song and not just a part, such as drums, with well defined transients, it either can't detect the tempo or when it does it is wrong.
*"Make it follow the tempo track: Use Flex Time (in the track parameters, choose a Flex mode). "*
This would be fine if I didn't have to redefine all the transient markers as correct flex markers. Since Flex Time has problems defining the correct transient markers for complete songs it can be very time consuming.
    Maybe I'm still missing something?
*"Third: what anchor? Do you mean the transient? Or the flex markers? You can move the transients in the Sample editor, and the Flex markers right on the track in Flex view (Click the Flex button in your toolbar)."*
The audio region anchor in the sample edit window, the orange arrow. I think this is some how turned off after turning on flex time and I am unable to move it. I use this to line up the first beat if there is something before the music starts, such as someone speaking or a lead in with a different tempo than the song tempo, that I would still like to keep. That way I can move the region in the arrange window and it will line up according to the first beat and not the beginning of the region. Am I making any sense?
