Opinions wanted: repair or buy new?
I was carrying my MBP in a backpack and slipped in a rainstorm and broke the optical drive, made the screen bow slightly and the bottom casing slightly wobbly. So frustrating since I just bought it earlier this year. Besides the optical drive, everything works though. I went to an Apple store and Tekserve and they both gave me very similar repair quotes, which are almost as much as buying a new computer. Since I have the previous (all silver) MBP I'm debating if I should just forget about repairing this one and buy the new model. The one I have now has 200gb hd, 2.5ghz processor and 4gb memory. What would you do? Thanks!
Update: I'm thinking about selling the computer for parts (or to someone who doesn't care about the broken optical drive). If it were yours, what's the lowest price you would accept? Thanks to anyone who shares their opinion! And thanks Dale for your previous replies.

My 2009 MacBookPro 17" was the recent victim of water damage (due to my cat). The repair shop quoted me at over $1000 to replace the components damaged (pretty much only the harddrive was saved). I'm debating repairing it versus buying a new one...specifically the 13" MacBook Pro with retina display 2.4 GHz with the 8GB RAM and 256GB flash storage(($1549). Any advice? I'm worrried I would notice a difference with the speed and storage as I am pretty sure my old MacBook has a 2.6 processor and 320 GB harddrive (which it sounds like they now use flash storage instead).

Also if I did decide to buy new can they completely remove my information off the old machine?I have a 2010 17 in MBP that I use as my home computer and a 13 in 2012 MBP for work purposes .... I find that 13 in screen just too small for my photo work and other recreational use. I sure wouldn't spend a grand to fix the 2010 MBP when it goes, but I am gonna cry buckets and then try to get used to 15 in screen.
Your repair shop CAN completely erase your Hard Drive but you will not know that they have done this really. If it was me, I would ask them to return the HD to me and forget about getting money for it. You can always put it in a case to use as an external~
As to how much your damaged MBP is worth, you can look on eBay and get a sense of what people are asking. -
I spilled a cup of tea on my 2009 aluminum macbook. They say it'll cost 775 to repair it. I could buy 1,000 for a new one. I'm leaning toward repair since I like my computer but is there a reason to buy a new one? Has it improved much since 2009?

Sorry to hear about your coffee spill. One thing to consider if you go the route of a new machine is that you'd get a one year limited warranty with the option to buy the AppleCare Protection Plan for the machine. If you go the $775 route you'd only get a 90-day limited warranty and you're out of AppleCare Protection range unless the machine already has it.
Let's talk differences:
If you have the 2.4GHz model, there's no improvement with the newer MacBook. It uses the same CPU, Cache and System Bus speed.
It does not have an illuminated keyboard, again if you have the 2.4GHz model
The new MacBook would come with Snow Leopard and iLife '11, your machine came with Leopard and most likely iLife '08.
Both can run up to 8GB of RAM (Apple only officially supports up to 4GB)
The new MacBook has a newer GPU (320M vs 9400M) and while the newer one does benchmark higher (and thus on paper is better) unless you're gaming or rendering a lot of 3D images you won't see a difference.
The new MacBook does not have an IR port if you wanted to use the remote
The new MacBook has a much stronger battery (63.5 watt hour vs. 45 watt hour). As such Apple is saying you should be able to get double the run time off a full charge with the newer MacBook than your currently battery. But obviously, your mileage will vary.
So much improved? Not really. But it's important to consider what I mentioned earlier about the warranty/AppleCare Protection situation. -

Apple didn't force you to buy anything at all including the iPad. You made the choice to buy the iPad. You do not have to but iPhoto or iMovie. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything.

I am italian, and i always used an italian sim card and and an italian appleID. recently I bought a UK sim card, because I moved in the UK. The problem is that I would like to have access and buy new apps from the UK store, but my apple ID is valid only for the Italian store. I prefer to avoid the creation of a new account for a lot of reason that are not related to this post. Do you have any ideas?

MicheleNope. You can only have one credit card attached to an account at a time. Its not that big of a deal to use two accounts, users do this all the time. Create the second account(UK Account) in iTunes on your computer...sign out of your Italian account first. Then authorize your computer for this new account: Store>Authorize this computer. Then sync your phone. Now, to switch accounts on your phone: Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...then sign back in with the ID you want to use.

How do I open my itunes account on a new computer without having to buy all new songs? It doesn't seem fair to have to buy all the same songs a second time if they are already purchased by me and I just want them on my new computer!

I can't backup my iPhone 5. It says I don't have enough storage. So I've deleted like 6-7 apps and its still says I don't have enough storage. And it also says the same thing when I want to buy new apps or music. Also my messages won't send; I have to turn my phone off and resend then just to they can send. I can't even take any pictures because it says I have no storage.(I currently have 1,658 photos and 72 videos by the way.) What can I do? I just my phone in late December. I didn't think it would act up this bad before I even had it for a year. Please help.
Your phone needs more storage, buying storage on iCloud.com doesn't change that.

They will only be where you put them. They do not magically appear in new places.

If you bought the iPhone from an authorized store/vendor, you should have taken the iPhone to them or any other Apple Store for evaluation under warranty.
Once it has been opened by non-Apple entity, Apple will not do anything for this. -
