Opmnctl , http_server timeout
Hello,
i faced this issue after i installed BI Discoverer 10.1.2.0 into Windows Server 2003.
When i type opmnctl startall, the error shows that process timeout for http_server
Error
--> Process (pid=4652)
time out while waiting for a managed process to start
Log:
D:\oracle\BIHome_1\opmn\logs\HTTP_Server~1
the http_server is always down and never up..can anyone help me on this??
Hi
I ask this question a lot in here but do you have a fully qualified domain name in your HOSTS file on the server? Also, what is the name by which the computer is known? If its now fully qualified you won't get application server to work.
Please check these things first and let us know your findings.
Best wishes
Michael

resolved this issue
oracle/middleware/oracle_idm1/bin
oidldapd folder is missing. so we copied the folder from trail environment and placed in above directory and started opmnctl services.
it worked.

Hi Guru's
I have installed BI for my billing system on HP-UX 11i , with application server 10.1.2.0.2.
Last thursday we suffered from sudden power failure and all our servers went off.
After rebooting everything, opmnctl wasnt starting, so after further digging it turned out that the problem was with the dcm.conf file and quickly found it was cleared and had a 0 byte size. So, I copied the .bak file to the original name.
After that, all the services start gracefully apart from the HTTP Server which doesnt.
The logs are pasted below:-
/bi/appl/oracle/ORABI/102/opmn/bin$./opmnctl stopall

Kindly assist me as there are bosses of mine breathing down my neck.
Thank Rajab.There isn't a direct way to avoid OPMN having to try graceful stop first and directly go for force stop. But what you can do though is reduce the amount of time it waits for graceful stop request to finish (the timeout). For that you can change (reduce) the value of "timeout" attribute of <stop> element for the component in your $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\config\opmn.xml file. Refer this for details:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13996/common.htm#CACIFHJI
You can set the timeout to a very low value.
But keep in mind you should only do it when you understand the side effects of force/kill stop approach. Following explains the difference b/w graceful and forceful shutdown of Apache (same is applicable to OHS as OPMN under the cover uses apachectl to stop OHS):
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/stopping.html
Hope this helps.
Thanks

[exec] opmnctl: graceful stop of processes failed, trying forceful shutdown...I see the behavior when a process is running on BPEL or ESB, you have to make sure that no one is logged in or running any process to stop it, because the opmnctl stopall will wait for this process to end in order to stop. and as it get the time out it will show this error.
You can increase the *<stop timeout="300">* in the opmn.xml for the process that usually fails... but think that 300 seconds is a lot of time to wait for this process. So you may change it to the original.

10.1.2 opmnctl startall hanging
I have a server with a couple of OAS installs (TEST and DEVL) and they usually co-exist peacefully but on occasion, like now, my one app server won't start.
The last time I had this issue I had to shutdown all app environments (also have some 11i EBS as well) and reboot the server to make it all work.
What I'd like to know is what files I should look at like webcache or Apcahe log files and if there is some other things I should check. I was using lsof -i:xxxx to see if any ports reserved for one app were being used by another but that doesn't seem to be turning anything up.
I can start the INFRA database but then it hangs here:
$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startallopmnctl: starting opmn and all managed processes...
- hit ctrl-c here and run status

That fixed it. The listener is started in a separate step and I was missing that as I checked things.

Can this error occur due to any changes while enabling SSL in opmn.xml or while specifying the wallet location in tip.properties?
MLR #5 Patch has been installed on B2B
Thanks & Regards,
Suhas.Please the wallet location specified in the Apache SSL configuration holds the wallet. File to look for "$ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/ssl.conf".
Look for the directory name configured against "SSLWallet" and the directory should contain valid ewallet.p12.
Sample installation in my box,
SSLWallet file:C:\Oracle10g\midtier2\Apache\Apache\conf\ssl.wlt\default

When to restart the services OC4J_BI_FORMS & HTTP_SERVER
During the deployment of our application on the 10G application server, we generally make entries in the following files:
1) Default. 2) fmrweb.res 3) forms90 4) formsweb and 5) registry files.
but i am not sure changes into which files needs me to restart the
1)OC4J_BI_FORMS
2) HTTP_SERVER.
as of now i am just restarting these services whenever i make any changes in formsweb file.As I only can see that you made changes to Forms files, then you only need to restart the OC4J_BI_FORMS for the files mentioned:
opmnctl restartproc ias-component=OC4J_BI_FORMSHowever, most changes in formsweb.cfg doesn´t need a restart.

Error starting HTTP_Server.
I've seen a lot of posts for this issue, but no definitive resolution.
Build: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 8)
OAS: 10.1.3
Desired Build: Integrated HTTP Server/OC4j
The log entry contains the following:
06/10/06 09:00:06 Start process
When I try to start up the http server alone I receive:
Ouch! ap_mm_create(1048576, "/tmp/apache/logs/mm.8864") failed
Error: MM: mm:core: failed to open memory file (No such file or directory): OS: No such file or directory
Researching this doesn't give me much.
Can someone point me in the right direction to resolve this? I tried metalink...they have a patch for solaris, not much else. I've looked the forum over and didn't find much other than unanswered posts for the same issue. On the wire I found something aobut the sysctl settings needing to be changed. Is there documentation somewhere about what kernel parameters need to be set for an OAS install on Redhat ES 3? Have I overlooked some other resources?
Sincerely,

First check the log files why http is not starting up thro opmnctl cmd.
In order to change the port..
Take the back up of Original httpd.conf file and opmn.xml
and then in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf file
you will get parameter "port" and "listen"..so enter the desired port no

Account lock error when opmnctl start

Now, I can not find any locked accounts.
I tried to run oidadmin, but it tells me the server is not up.
Do you have any clue where I could unlock the account?
Do you know where I can check which account is locked?
Thanks in advance!
RetoAfter getting in contact with Oracle SR the problem could get resolved.
Here the log and solution:
running programm:
on infra environment: opmnctl startall
Issue:
Error - ORA-28000: the account is locked
Can not start OC4J_SECURITY
Logfile found on: /app/oracle/product/infra10g/opmn/logs/TZHSRRE1
Solution:
We shouldn't worry about the ORA-28000, ORA-28001 errors - these are misleading errors caused by the "scott" DB account that it's not used by OID/SSO.
The real problem appears to be the OC4J_SECURITY process being forcefully stopped/crashing.
First of all, let's check id the OID is working as expected:
Check the ports on /app/oracle/product/comp/infra10g/install/portlist.ini
1. ps -ef | grep oidldapd
2. $ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapbind -h <oid_host> -p <oid_nonSSL_port>
-> $ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapbind -h zus95d-4403.tszrh.csfb.com -p 389
Cannot connect to the LDAP server
3. $ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapbind -h <oid_host> -p <oid_SSL_port> -U 1
-> $ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapbind -h zus95d-4403.tszrh.csfb.com -p 636 -U 1
Cannot connect to the LDAP server
Stop and restart OID on this way:
4. $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopproc process-type=OID
5. check if there are still running oidldap processes ps -ef | grep oidldapd
In this case just kill them
6. Connect as SYS user to the Metadata repository database and issue the following statements:
+ delete ods.ods_process where serverid=2;
+ commit;
7. $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startproc process-type=OID
8. after some minutes check OID again:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapbind -h zus95d-4403.tszrh.csfb.com -p 389
bind successful
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapbind -h zus95d-4403.tszrh.csfb.com -p 636 -U 1
bind successful
9. Try to start OC4J_SECURITY:
$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startproc process-type=OC4J_SECURITY
10. Try to login on SSO:
http://servername.host:port/portal/page/portal/TOPLEVELSITE/Welcome
11. Connection works
Note/Conclustion:

Unable to Start Oracle HTTP_Server on Open Suse 10 SP3
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 on Open Suse 10 SP3 and the install is fine until when it comes to starting HTTP_Server it fails and in the log it says:
12/05/21 10:05:54 Start process
/opt/oracle/as1013/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd
Oracle Application Server was installed on another Open Suse 10 server by another colleague who has now left the company.
Can anyone give me any pointers?

Production Portal hangs with timeouts
Hi all,
Several times during the day the Portal 10.1.4.0.0 hangs with timeouts.
In order to recover, Portal needs to be re-started.
(The timeout also occurred during the time they had a db corruption, but now that corruption has been resolved, the hangs still occur.
After running the SVU in CLEANUP mode, the issue still occurs.
Timeout has been set to well over the default. Stall has been increased also. Neither have helped to resolve the issue.
The java portlets are from a specific OC4J Provider, and all of them are on pages under a Page Group.
These portlets reads (also trough views) data on portal schema in order to create the "style" and css of the portal pages. All of the database statements are select, exception of rare insert operation on a table of their custom schema.
User load:
The access statistics indicates that about 800 users access this site in 1 hour.
The more high user access in one hour was 1100 users.
The concurrent user access are about 500.
Thanks for any help.
Edited by: hmannila on May 11, 2010 11:50 PMHello Helenna,
In this particular case, the PPE timeout settings are set to very high values causing exhaustion of fetcher threads in the PPE fetcher thread pool :
<servlet>
<servlet-name>page</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>oracle.webdb.page.ParallelServlet</servlet-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>requesttime</param-name>
<param-value>120</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>minTimeout</param-name>
<param-value>180</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>stall</param-name>
<param-value>200</param-value>
</init-param> This should be the action plan for you :

As you already pointed out, the portal seems to become unresponsive because the Edison provider is not responding fast enough to requests from the Portal framework. Oracle Portal should be able to recover from thi in normal cases. Unfortunately the configuration settings in the Portal were changed from the default values making it almost impossible for the framework to recover from the error. To understand this, we will need to go through the theory :
The Oracle Portal framework collects information from various sources and assembles these to web pages which are then sent to the end users internet browser. Providers are one source of information. To retrieve the information from providers, Oracle Portal allocates a so-called fetcher thread in OC4J_Portal. This fetcher thread will create a session with the (remote) provider and fetch the content, similar to how a web browser would contact a web server to retrieve an HTML page. It is important to note that Oracle Portal allocates a fetcher thread for each portlet on a page. For a page with five portlets, five fetcher threads are allocated as the content is fetched in parallel.
In a default configuration with only one OC4J_Portal process, the number of fetcher threads is limited to 25. With five portlets on a page, the Portal will be able to serve up to five requests simultaneously before the pool of fetcher threads gets exhausted. This is normally not a problem because the fetcher threads are allocated for just a few seconds normally. Once they have received the response from the provider, they are returned to the pool and will be available to the Portal again.
The problems start when the provider's response becomes sluggish. The fetcher thread is not returned to the pool immediately. The requests start to queue up until the system doesn't have any fetcher threads available anymore. Once there are no fetcher threads available, the Portal will wait for a new fetcher thread for a certain period of time (as specified by the queueTimeout). After expiration of this queue timeout, the Portal will return an error to the Oracle HTTP Server. This is when end users will start to experience errors in the pages.
To keep the Portal alive and healthy, administrators should take care that the fetcher threads pool doesn't get exhausted. Obviously the best way to do this is to ensure that all providers respond in a reasonable amount of time. If there is no control on the response times of the providers, administrators can use the timeouts in the framework to assure that long running requests are killed off by the framework to assure that the fetcher threads are returned to the pool again. These parameters are configured in the web.xml from the application portal in the OC4J container called OC4J_Portal. Obviously users will see timeout errors for particular portlets on certain pages but the overall framework will be available. In addition, administrators can decide to increase the number of fetcher threads by starting more than one OC4J_Portal process. Each additional process will increase the amount of fetcher threads with 25. There is a memory penalty for this however as each process can consume between 256 - 512 Mb of memory. Administrators should only increase the amount of processes when they have checked that the Portal midtier system has enough free memory available to accommodate for these additional processes.
Action plan :
1. Change the timeout values for the Portal framework to the default values :
a. Navigate to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/applications/portal/portal/WEB-INF
b. Copy the web.xml :
% cp web.xml web.xml_23MAR2010
c. Edit the web.xml :
For both the RepositoryServlet and the PortalServlet, remove the STALL timeout
For the page servlet, remove the requesttime, minTimeout, stall and queueTimeout parameters
2. Increase the number of OC4J_Portal processes from 1 to 4 :
a. Create a copy of the file $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml :
% cp opmn.xml opmn.xml_23MAR2010
b. Open the file opmn.xml
c. Locate the following section :
<process-type id="OC4J_Portal" module-id="OC4J">
d. Within the section for the process OC4J_Portal, change the following line :
<process-set id="default_island" numprocs="1"/>
to
<process-set id="default_island" numprocs="4"/>
3. Synchronize the DCM repository :
% $ORACLE_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig
4. Restart the midtier processes
% $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall
% $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
4. Check whether the changes have are in effect :
a. Number of OC4J_Portal processes :
Run opmnctl status and count the number of OC4J_Portal processes. You should see four of them.
b. Timeout parameters in OC4J_Portal
Open the file $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/application-deployments/portal/OC4J_Portal_default_island_1/application.log and check for the following line at the end of the file :
10/03/08 06:32:32 portal: PPE version : 10.1.2.0.2 (29022008)
10/03/08 06:32:32 portal: Tuning parameter values : poolSize(Fetchers)=25[default=25] : minTimeout(MinTimeout)=5s[default=5s] : requesttime(DefaultTimeout)=15s[default=15s] : stall(MaxTimeout)=65s[default=65s] :
queueTimeout(QueueTimeout)=10s[default=10s] maxParallelPortlets=20[default=20] maxParallelPagePortlets=10[default=10]
