OPN Certified Specialist exam

Hi ,
I am a PL/SQL developer with over 6 years of experience.Currently I ma woking for a company who is an Oracle Gold Partner.
I am plannining to take OCA 11G exam next month.When I request for sponsor ship for my exam to my company , they said "Not sure how this is going to benefit the company at this moment. Something which would help the company like BI certifications can be looked at.".
So I need to take my exam of my own. I searched for BI certifications provided by oracle.I got OPN and OCS.
I feel OPN is best suitable for me as I am working for an oracle partner company.
But I am confused about they below FAQ provided in oracle site http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=353
How is the OPN Certified Specialist designation different from the OCA, OCP, OCE or OCS certification?
The OPN Certified Specialist designation is layered on top of an OCA, OCP, OCE or OCS certification. So, any candidate can obtain the underlying OCA, OCP, OCE or OCS certification and individuals who are members of a partner organization will additionally receive the OPN Certified Specialist designation, provided they enter the correct OPN Company ID in the profile at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle.
It means I dont need to take OCA /OCP if I take OPN certification?
Also Please let me know whether I can go and take exam straight or any pre requisite is there ( like OCA need to take before applying for OCP)

Picking a test that I am more familiar with, anyone who passes the exam: 1Z0-528 -- Oracle Database 11g Security Essentials, would gain the following certification: Oracle Database 11g Security Certified Implementation Specialist. If the person is employed by an OPN company, then they would also become an OPN Certified Specialist and would help their company qualify for the Oracle Database Security Options specialization. The certified specialist designation is just something that adds more meaning to OPN companies.
Another example is the Database 11g Administrator Certified Professional certification. Individuals who are 11G OCPs and work for an OPN company are also OPN Certified Specialists. Again, this helps the company's specialization status. Don't ask me what the importance of a company's specialization status is... I have neither a clue nor any interest.
So the answer is that OPN specializations are not done instead of OCA/OCP certifications but are something that sometimes come as an added bonus to getting an OCA/OCP.
Most (again, perhaps all) of the OPN-specific exams are standalones and have no pre-requisites.

Difference between Certified Expert and Certified Specialist

Hi All,
I have cleared both the exams of ‘E-Business Suite R12 Supply Chain Certified Expert Consultant, Purchasing’ and ‘ll be undergoing the required classroom courses in next couple of weeks.
I just want to know which course and designation has more value - Oracle Certified Expert Program or Oracle Certified Specialist . I have gone through the explanation of certification titles but could not got answer to my below questions
1. Which exam is higher in hierarchy
2. Which exam fetches more credit to employer
3. Which exam is more tough
4. Which designation weighs more in job market

In many cases, the OCE exams have spent more time in development and beta. These exams are geared toward different audiences. The OCS exams are typically geared toward employees of partner organizations, though they are availalbe to all candidates, they are developed with partners in mind and they are geared toward implementation specialists.
2. Which exam fetches more credit to employer
It really depends on whether your employer is an Oracle Partner. OCS certifications are developed by and for partner employees. However, if you are a member of a partner organization, the EBS12 certifications will also count toward your company's specialization. It is best to check internally to see which certification is prefered by your employer.
3. Which exam is more tough
Different exams have different levels of difficulty within both groups.
4. Which designation weighs more in job market
Again, It really depends on whether your potential employer is an Oracle Partner. OCS certifications are developed by and for partner employees. If you are looking for a job with an Oracle partner, it would probably benefit you to obtain one of the certifications that counts toward partner specialization - you can find this list on http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=342.

Reading though the syllabus for this exam, I can across the following:
- Verify proper creation of vmcore by kdump using crash+D23
Anybody know how to do this or is it some sort of typo?

Looks like a typo to me, probably means crash utility.

Hello, this is my first post. I am familiar with SQL and I use it occasionally, but I decided to get certified. Which book and material would you recommend me studying to sit the 1Z0-870 exam? Online and college courses are too expensive for me and I happen to do better studying at my own pace. Thanks.

... That said the 1z0-870 for MySQL is relatively expensive and over simple for what it is (IMHO); and it may be worth considering going direct for the OCP.
For using the more recent version of MySQL in practice additional books/material may be important for on the job in practice.

Adobe Certified Expert Exam Prep.

Hi, all. I need to get certified with the ACE in Illustrator and Photoshop for work. I feel comfortable with the Design version of the Creative Suite, but I know that the ACE exams are not easy to pass. I'm wondering what the best study/preparation materials are. If anyone has a suggestion from experience, I would really appreciate it, as I am already nervous about having to sit for the exams. I'd feel a lot more confident if I knew I was well-prepared first.

Always a few questions from ACE book as suggested, and can be seen with every version update of ACE books
Go through EVERY menu and palette flyout option (I start left to right)
Go over color mgmt again (though most people turn off color mgmt or leave defaults because it is so complex, always a few questions on that)
Read the post on these forums (actually an excellent way to one up before the exams, cause it forces you to go into things you don't normally do)
Search help for keyboard shortcuts and go over all of them. You won't get asked to memorize every keyboard shortcut so don't worry, but again this forces you to break your habit and go into things you might not use)
Go deep into transparency options and appearance panel
Do this and you will be condfident and ready

Books/sites for Certified Associate (exam 1Z0-042)?

What books are recommended in order to pass exam 1Z0-042 (Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Associate)? Is there any one book that I can study that will help me pass this test?
I've read that you should have some "hands-on" experience to pass the test. I have software development experience with T-SQL (sql server). But I've rarely done anything with Oracle specifically (although I've worked with pl/sql).

Download the Database and install it and your on the first step of going through exam topics
Get time to read the Concepts guide, and maybe Admin and Performance guides from the docu library.

Solaris exam form (Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator Certified Professional Exam)

In comming days I'm going to try above Solaris 10 exam. Have some questions regarding form of exam (I couldn't find it on Oracle website):
1. Is it multiple choice test with indication in each question how many answers are correct?
2. Is it possible to switch questions during exam and get back later to ones which I'm not sure?
3. Are the results given just after or later

In the days of the Sun when even an ultrasparc 2 could run solaris 10 and some brainless clot still allowed access to the obp updates there were exams cx-310-201 and cx-310-202.
In fact yours truly got 100% for his "manage network printers and systems processes" despite in practice my setup for printers in Glasgow coming out in Galashields. In some ways I was quite good at printers.
Then around the exam had a update for S10u5 when the old ZFS and zones etc started to get really going.
( I completed the cx-310-202 under that update).
Refering to Calkins ISBN-13: 978-0-7897-3790-8 for the section he considers as "Managing System processes" there is no mention of printers.
HOWEVER there was a whole section on managing the lp printer service in that book in the very next chapter!
But we are talking history here .... and the exam may have been through further updates ... indeed the current exam is validated against s10u11 (which is about 2/3 years old I would guess without looking it up).
So printing may well have been dropped. Any other topics may have had to be tweaked.
It's obviously best you know about printing ..... but quite frankly its somewhat rate nowadays. It can also be a but of a minefield as its been through changes with the releases. It's quite possible it's dropped from the exam altogether.
You have 2 reasonable choices:-
- Study all you can about printers at s10u11. (Go over what the online documentation says for s10u11). I'm sure some of this stuff changed throughout the life of Solaris 10. It shouldn't be more than one or two questions so don't spend too much time on it.
- Raise an SR at Oracle University - Support Form ... Question the discrepancy on the title versus the underlying topics. ( .. there isn't a category for this .... exam results/score report might be best) questioning the discrepancy in the topics. Put the SR number back on this thread as if Brandye is happening to pass she might pick it up).
... I can't be sure of anything I have said here. I may end up confusing rather than helping over Matthew's earlier reply.

Why isn't there an Adobe Certified Associate Exam for After Effects?

I've been traching my students Video production, and as you all know one of Premiere's best partners for this is After Effects. I get my students to pass the ACA for Premiere Pro (we're on CS5 still) but there is nothing for After Effects. Why is this? These types of certifications are excellent for students - it looks great on college resumes and can count toward post-secondary exams for them in some schools. Any idea why there isn't an ACA for this? I know there is the ACE, but from what I've taken I know the ACE exams are more difficult than the ACA exams. I think the ACA curriculum is great for high school students, and the ACA exam is a perfect exit exam for this age.

iTunes doesn't handle the import of photos from a digital camera including from the iPhone's Camera Roll, which this would involve along with creating the albums or folders on your computer for the albums created on the iPhone from the iPhone's Camera Roll.
The Camera Roll is for temporary storage as with any other digital camera and photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Although photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup, it isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone alone for this which can be lost or stolen, or on your iPhone's backup which includes a significant amount of other data in the event a problem develops with the backup.
Since photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera, you can create albums/folders for select photos on your computer to include photos imported from your iPhone's Camera Roll and for other photos on your computer for transfer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process, which is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone.

1Z0-241 - Peoplesoft Certified Developer Exam

Are there any practice exams available for this one? I don't find anything listed by either Oracle or Kaplan.
If anyone knows an alternative, please let me know.

There is no practice test available for this test from Oracle and be careful what you find online. You can check any 'practice test provider' against CertGuard's brain dump identifier to ensure you are not purchasing a brain dump CertGuard.
