OpsMgr 2012 R2 latency

How long does it normally take to get an alert for low disk space? I installed agent on Windows 8.1 and imported MPs for Windows 8/8.1 but more than half an hour had passed until I could see alert for low disk space (I copied large folders
to d partition to fill it up so it has now only 800 mb free space). I know SCOM 2012 R2 is known for it's latency but this is too much - Windows client and SCOM server are on the same network segment so this is unacceptably slow.
Is there any way to force this on the server or the client side? Do we have some client tools which exist for ConfigMgr to make our life easier?

Hi,
Do you mean that you the agent is in critical state, but alert is not fired? Have you recalculated the state of the computer? Alert should be fired when both the MB and % free criteria are met.
Here is a similar thread for your reference:

  • Adding Company Knowledge with OpsMgr 2012 Console - "Failed to launch Microsoft Word"

    Hi everyone!
I'm trying to add company knowledge using the OpsMgr 2012 console (32-bit) on Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) using the guidelines provided at the following link...
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212900.aspx
I'm using Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 (32-bit) with the .NET Programmability feature and the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime installed, but I get the dreaded "failed to launch Microsoft Word" error...
...any help or guidance would be greatly apprecaited!
    Regards,
    JJ

    Thanks Andres!
I have confirmed that the following instructions does allow you to use Word 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 64-bit or Windows Server 2008 R2 to edit company
    knowledge...
    1. Go to the directory where the OpsMgr console is installed (example: C:\Program Files\System Center\Operations Manager 2012\Console )
    2. Make a copy of Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config
    3. Edit Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config using Administrator rights
    4. Search for “</dependentAssembly>” and remove the “<publisherPolicy apply="no" />” line immediately following the “</dependentAssembly>” line
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    JJ
Well, firstly I have to agree with other people's comments along the lines of "It shouldn't be this hard!", but I can happily say that the solution above (by IM5FOOTNOTHIN)
worked for me...once I noticed this crucial footnote: "Do this for
    ALL instances of the
<publisherPolicy apply="no" /> line that immediately follow the </dependentAssembly> line"

  • Monitoring SAN through OpsMgr 2012 R2

Hello All..................I am trying to monitor SAN through OpsMgr 2012 R2.
    1.  What would be required for such a configuration?  I have following
    -   Management Pack for SAN
    -   IP Address
    -   User Name and Password
    2.  WHat would be high level steps?  Any step by step guide would be appreciated.  THanks.

You have to share more information...
    What storage?
    What tapes?
    What switches/directors?
To monitor your devices as network devices you just need SNMP ports (161/162) and ICMP enabled. Minimum requirement is SNMP get for the discovery and monitors/rules that poll the device.
    Cheers,

  • OpsMgr 2012 R2 environment, reports in newly imported MPs not deploying to reporting services

We have an OpsMgr 2012 R2 environment that has been up and running for several months now. Recently we attempted to import a new MP with reports (the Veeam Report Library) - the import was successful, but the Veeam folder and reports never appear in the
OpsMgr reporting console or in the report server web page, even after waiting several hours and even overnight.
We have deleted and reimported the MP with no luck. We have restarted the SRS server with no luck. We have scoured the logs of the servers and found no events that appear to be related, and there are no health states or alerts in OpsMgr indicating any issues.
We also tried importing a new, different management pack with reports (Windows Logical Disk extension pack) and those reports also have not shown up.
Note that for both MPs the associated rules/monitors show up as expected, it is only the reports that are an issue. Also, all the previously imported reports are still available and functioning normally, it's only newly-imported reports that are failing
    to show up.
We previously imported dozens of MPs with no issues and there have been no configuration changes to the environment. With no OpsMgr alerts or health issues, and no seemingly related event log entries we're not sure where to check next to see the progress,
status, and issues with report deployment, any help in pointing us in the right direction is appreciated.

    Hi,
Would you please restart data access service and system center management configuration service to check the result?
In addition, have you checked the operation manager event logs with event viewer, we may find helpful information there to troubleshoot this issue.

  • What is the minimum permission set required to query alert information using OpsMgr 2012 SDK?

    Hi,
I am using the OpsMgr 2012 SDK to retrieve alert information from SCOM.
I tried configuring a read-only role for a user account (Group Scope: All, Dashboards & Views: All) but, as I call some of the APIs like Administration.GetAllManagementServers(), Administration.GetAllAgentManagedComputers() etc. I get a UnauthorizedAccessEnterpriseManagementException.
I need to know what are the minimum permissions required for a user to query alert information and to make calls I mentioned above using the OpsMgr 2012 SDK.
    Warm Regards
    Himanshu Agarwal

    Thanks for the reply.
Just to give you a context, I am writing a client application where a user can fetch alert information from SCOM using OpsMgr 2012 SDK. There could be many users that would use this application, hence I need to know the minimum set of permissions I can grant
or add them to a group for easy maintenance.
I believed Read-Only admin role was intended for that purpose but some of the SDK APIs as I mentioned throw the said exception.
I would like to know, how can i create such role/group from SCOM 2012 console.
PS: SDK and Config account is used by SCOM to perform DB operations and I would not like to impersonate this account in my client application. Instead I want to make my clients as admins with just enough permissions to read information. I'll have a better
    control this way.

  • Customize OpsMgr 2012 SP1 Web Console settings

    Hello all,
The question I have I've been seaching for days and I wasn't able to find nothing so I decided to ask here and hopefully there's someone
    whose already did it.
I'm found some divergences on the number of alerts webconsole shows compared to scom console (UI).
Due this issue I spent hours of research on blogs and foruns until I find a blog post from Michael Pearson (link below) that list
a bunch of settings you can add to web.config file, allowing you to choose which interval and which kind of alerts you want to display (critical, critical and errors or critical, errors and information), among others. I tried to make it work on my lab environment
but these parameters seems to be incompatible with OpsMgr 2012.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/michaelpearson/archive/2009/11/30/opsmgr-r2-web-console-web-config-settings.aspx
Does anyone know if similar customization is available on OpsMgr 2012?
    Regards

You should modify the web.config file under
    c:\program files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\operations Manager\webconsole\monitoringview

  • [OpsMgr 2012 SP1 RU1] Network Devices disappeared

    Hello,
I have enabled network monitoring on my OpsMgr 2012 environment.
I created explicit discovery rules to discover around 20 newtork devices
There are two CISCO 6506 switches running in pair with IP address 172.x.x.117 and 172.x.x.118
Both switches are discovered and under monitored successfully, I can monitored the Proccessor usage, ports, etc
However, after sometime, the 172.x.x.117 switch disappeared from the console.
I tried to re-discover it, but it eventually disappeared again.
Please help on this issue, is it a bug or something? the second swtich 172.x.x.118 is being monitored normally without any issue
    Thank you very much

I have the same problem, but the network device thats disappears for me is a windows server 2008 R2 that I have added as a network device.

  • OpsMgr 2012 R2 UR2 - Dashboards - unknown state

    Hi All
We are running OM 2012 R2 UR2 with SQL2012 on Server 2012 R2. With UR 2 a whole stack of additional dashboards were added. We have a state tile widget, it shows 3 things. I add an object for lync (LS Deployment object) and the state shows unknown. Ive tried
a group with different objects in and it always shows the state as unknown (as per diagram).
    Has anyone got any ideas?

    Hi,
If the status of the discovered item is unknown. This means that there is no monitor available for this specific discovered item.
Have you import Lync Management Pack into your management group?
Please also check operation manager event logs on the Lync object.
In addition, hope the below links be helpful for you:

  • OpsMgr 2012 - Alerting question/discussion

    Good day all.
I am trying to get community feedback regarding this issue.
I will state right off the bat that I WISH I COULD DO DYNAMIC EXCLUSIONS INSIDE GROUPS!!!! There, I said it :)  I can exclude individual servers, but I cannot exclude dynamically the same way I can include
    dynamically.
(my network is much much larger than this but it works for the description)
Here is a scenario. I have a Production Network with 10 servers on it.  They are all windows based machines.  5 of them are QA servers which access the live data but are used for other things.  I want to email alert for the Windows servers
but NOT for the QA servers.
Ideally I would like to create 2 groups.  One group would be dynamically populated and contain "Windows Servers" (which would include all 10 systems).
The second group would be dynamically populated and contain only the 5 QA systems.
Then I would take that second group, and place it in the Excluded Members list of the Windows Servers group.  Upon which time I would setup an e-mail alert for Windows Computers and never again worry about another issue being emailed out which is related
    to the QA servers.
Unfortunately that's not the case (although, if you have a way I can do this, I'd be grateful).
Thanks for any suggestions you have in advance.
    Zach

  • OpsMgr 2012 monitor state RegEx based expressions

    Hi,
I'm working on creating a management pack for Linux machines. I'm using a two-state script based monitor that runs a simple command and then some RegEx expression to figure out the health state. Anyway, everything is set up, however whenever I test it, the
monitor's state goes Critical, while it should actually be healthy. Using Workflow Analyzer, I've run a trace of the monitor and here's what I saw there:
    Filter Instance (000000000ABE9D40):
    Evaluating RegEx Expression:
    <ValueExpression>
    <XPathQuery Type='String'>//*[local-name()="StdOut"]</XPathQuery>
    </ValueExpression>
    <Operator CaseSensitive='false'>MATCHES_REGEX</Operator>
    <Pattern>^\s?[^\s]+\s/mnt/test\s[^\s]+\srw.*$</Pattern>
    Resolves to:
    /dev/vg_test/lv_test /mnt/test ext3 rw,data=ordered 0 0
    MATCHES_REGEX
    ^\s?[^\s]+\s/mnt/test\s[^\s]+\srw.*$
    Using case insensitive string compare
    RESULT = NOT A MATCH
The fact that it resolves to "NOT A MATCH" leads me to thinking that it's either a bug, or that there's something else that I forgot to configure. Anyway, running this match in PowerShell works well:
    PS C:\TMP> $TestString = '/dev/vg_test/lv_test /mnt/test ext3 rw,data=ordered 0 0'
    PS C:\TMP> $Pattern = '^\s?[^\s]+\s/mnt/test\s[^\s]+\srw.*$'
    PS C:\TMP> $TestString -match $Pattern
    True
    As per
KB# 2702651 filtering uses .NET RegEx expression syntax, which means that the PS test confirms that the expression is written correctly.
Does any one know if this is a bug or how to fix it? I tried redesigning the expression, and while it was working fine in the designer, it still resolves to 'NOT A MATCH' in tracing.
P.S.: The reason I'm using RegExp and not modifying the initial script to return something like healthy\unhealthy is that in case of an error, the output of the script also has to go to the alert description.
    Thanks,
    Ivan
    Ivan Seriavin

    Hello,
I've done some experimenting with this, and I think the issue is the whitespace character: '\s'    If you look in the KB 2702651 article that you linked, under the heading "Expression Filter matching criteria" is a list of supported "SCOM
Regex" expressions.  \s is not listed in that table, and experimental results seem to suggest that it is not supported.
If you just want to match that StdOut contains the strings: /mnt/test
followed by rw, this pattern works: ^.+/mnt/test.+rw.*$
Also, you said: The reason I'm using RegExp and not modifying the initial script to return something like healthy\unhealthy is that in case of an error, the output of the script also has to go to the alert description.
One thing that I often do is have the script do the logical test (to determine Healthy or Error status), and then output StdOut that concatenates OK or Error
and the output that is useful in the alert description:
    OK: <my output>
    Error: <my output>
In this way, the ExpressionFilter is very simple (StdOut contains OK or StdOut contains Error).  You can still include StdOut in the alert description and get meaningful information.  However, it's your call whether you want the logical test to
be done in your script or in the ExpressionFilter.
    Thanks,
    Kris

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Report Server component install to SQL 2012 Sp1 error?

    Hi All
Im having issues installing SCOM 2012 R2 Report Server component to a SQL 2012 Sp1 Server (which is a Windows 2012 R2 Standard server).  Im trying to install to the SQL Default server instance, note that the server also has a named instance
which hosts the SCOM databases.  SQL Reporting Services is up and running fine (can access the web urls etc).  Im also using the SCOM install account wich has full SQL and SCOM Server admin rights for the install.  Ive checked that the Firewall
is off locally on the SQL Server, Ive also checked that the existing SCOM components are all in a Healthy state in the SCOM console.
The installed version of SQL Server could not be verified or is not supported. Verify that the computer and the installed version of SQL Server meet the minimum requirements for installation, and that the firewall settings are correct. See the Supported
    Configurations document for further information.
Ive attempted the install on a standalone SQL Server away from the SQL Server hosting the SCOM databases, but encounter the same error.  The full SCOM MSI Installer log details are below, line that appears most relevant is below but unsure why
this would be the case (same account that I used for SQL install etc).  Any help much appreciated! : )

The issue is SQL report server database related, I would like to suggest you create a new report database for SCOM and then check the reuslt. Please refer to the below links and follow it to set up SCOM 2012 R2:

  • Three agent UR versions gets installed from gateway - SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4

    Hi,
We have a SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 installation with several gateways that servers connect to and get installation from.
We noticed that when the agent get installed on a client server it gets first the agent itself, then UR1, UR2 and last UR4.
From the XML-section in the task that has installed the agent one can read the following:
    SoftwareUpdateInstalled KB2784734-amd64-Agent.msp;KB2826664-amd64-Agent.msp;KB2880799-amd64-Agent.msp; SoftwareUpdateInstalled
Below is from the application log of a newly installed server that got the agent installed.
The question I have is if this is correct? Why are all three UR installed?
Shouldn't it be enough with the latest version of UR? Are they not cumulative?
Can I simply delete the older versions in the agent directory of the Gateway?
    Regards S-E

    Hi,
This should be normal, as we can see in the below two articles. When applying Update Rollup 2, UR1 is listed there, and when applying Update Rollup 3, UR1 and UR2 is listed there also.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2013/04/11/applying-update-rollup-2-ur2-to-opsmgr-2012-sp1.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2013/09/27/applying-update-rollup-3-ur3-to-opsmgr-2012-sp1.aspx
For example, UR3 can be applied to System Center Operations Manager 2012 SP1 (as released) or a SCOM 2012 SP1 deployment that has had UR1 or UR2 already applied.

  • Using GTMTool.exe with Operations Manager 2012 R2

I'm using Operations Manager 2012 R2, and I've successfully used the GTMTool released a few years ago to insert a custom dashboard into a sealed MP folder, but I'm not having any luck creating a Task Pane Dashboard.  I am answering 'Y' at the prompt
to create the Task Pane Dashboard, but the tool moves on as though I answered 'N' and prompts me for the folder view location for my custom dashboard.  As the documentation states, I've been careful to select the SAME object for all of the dashboard widgets.
Has anyone successfully used the GTMTool to create a Task Pane Dashboard in 2012 R2?  Or, perhaps the tool isn't compatible with R2 anymore?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Based on my research, the tool can work with SCOM 2012, and here are two links regarding to the tool used in SCOM 2012, please follow them to re-create task pane dashboard:

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 - PowerShell Script failed to run - 3 alerts appear after every reboot of the SCOM Server

Brand new SCOM 2012 SP1 install with Update Rollup 1 applied
Single server, local SQL install, SQL Server 2012 SP1
Hyper-V VM running on Server 2012.  VM has 8GB Ram, single vCPU
Going through initial management pack importing and configuration, at this point I have the Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2012 MP's installed.
    See screenshot
    http://i.imgur.com/l0Molh1.png
I am getting the following alerts in my SCOM console and cannot find a resolution to fix the issue.  I don't want to set an override, as an override will prevent the PowerShell alert in other instances, where I might want to receive an alert.
Looking at the alert description, it states "The Data Access service is either not running or not yet initialized"
The SCOM Console launches and responds fine, and I get no other errors.  I check the Data Access service and it is online.  I have left the system alone for a couple of hours and no other errors.  I then closed those alerts and restarted the
server, and they came right back in, so I know that this is something that is happening at either server startup of during the start of the SCOM services.
Is it possible that SCOM is trying to execute these scripts and the Data Access service has not come online yet?
Has anyone else come across this before?

Please try the method in the following thread:
Note: As there is operations related to Registry, please perform a backup before doing this.
