OpsMgr 2012 R2 UR2 - Dashboards - unknown state

Hi All
We are running OM 2012 R2 UR2 with SQL2012 on Server 2012 R2. With UR 2 a whole stack of additional dashboards were added. We have a state tile widget, it shows 3 things. I add an object for lync (LS Deployment object) and the state shows unknown. Ive tried
a group with different objects in and it always shows the state as unknown (as per diagram).
Has anyone got any ideas?

Hi,
If the status of the discovered item is unknown. This means that there is no monitor available for this specific discovered item.
Have you import Lync Management Pack into your management group?
Please also check operation manager event logs on the Lync object.
In addition, hope the below links be helpful for you:

  • SPN Registration clarification (in SCOM 2012 SP1 UR2)

    Hi,
    was looking some clarification of manual registration of SPN's - as is the requirement in my case were I am using a domain account for SDK and data access service.
    I have read the Service Principle Names section of this Library document
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh487288.aspx and have also referenced Kevins post here
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2011/08/08/opsmgr-2012-what-should-the-spn-s-look-like.aspx and also reviewed the product knowledge from the scom rule that checks Data Access Service SPN registration.  However I'm still a bit confused!!
    I had the issue in my Preprod deployment which I resolved by manual registration which I completed as per following the product knowledge in the alert ie following this advice and syntax:
    If the SPNs are not correctly registered, register them manually by running the following commands, using an account with domain administrator rights:
    Setspn.exe -A MSOMSdkSvc/<MS NetBIOS Name> <MS NetBIOS Name>
    Setspn.exe -A MSOMSdkSvc/<MS FQDN> <MS NetBIOS Name>
    This I assume this is registering the SDK service for the computer account (where MS NetBIOS Name is mgmt Server netbios and MS FQDN is Mgmt Server FQDN).
    However if I run Kevin's check,
    C:\>setspn –L DOMAIN\sdkdomainuseraccount
    I dont get any SDK SPN's for my account, the output is empty!
    Can anyone advise if there should definately be output in the above command as per Kevins blog, or is the registration of machine account SPN's sufficient?  Adding to the confusion is on other references to SPN's, they state NOT to use the -A switch
    and instead use -S as that checks for duplicates (but the -A doesnt) - would be nice if the product knowledge could be updated to reflect the latest guidance!
    Any advice much appreciated...

    Alexis/Stefan - thanks both for the replies, that has clarified my confusion!  Looks like I was incorrectly manually registering a machine account SPN, wereas I'm using a domain account and should be using the format below as per your replies:
    Setspn.exe -S MSOMSdkSvc/<MS NetBIOS Name> <Domain\SDKAccount>
    Setspn.exe -S MSOMSdkSvc/<MS FQDN> <Domain\SDKAccount>
    I am now getting the output from setspn -L DOMAIN\sdkdomainuseraccount as expected from Kevins post - so all looks OK.
    I notice I STILL get the alert for Data Access Service SPN registration in console after a server reboot - but I see the note in Kevins post that I can ignore it as below:
    *Note – In SCOM 2012 – you might notice that every time your management server service is restarted, or rebooted, that we log an event (and create an alert) that the SPN’s are incorrect.  This event/alert is in error, it is complaining the the SDK
    SPN is missing from the management server COMPTUER account, which should ONLY be the case if you were using local system for the SDK service.  Ignore this event and alert.
    Is that the case - just the post I think was written for SCOM 2012, wereas I'm using 2012 SP1 UR2 - so wondered if this guidance for ignoring the alert is still valid incase the issue for this bogus alert had been resolved by SP1/UR2?

  • OpsMgr 2012 R2 environment, reports in newly imported MPs not deploying to reporting services

    We have an OpsMgr 2012 R2 environment that has been up and running for several months now. Recently we attempted to import a new MP with reports (the Veeam Report Library) - the import was successful, but the Veeam folder and reports never appear in the
    OpsMgr reporting console or in the report server web page, even after waiting several hours and even overnight.
    We have deleted and reimported the MP with no luck. We have restarted the SRS server with no luck. We have scoured the logs of the servers and found no events that appear to be related, and there are no health states or alerts in OpsMgr indicating any issues.
    We also tried importing a new, different management pack with reports (Windows Logical Disk extension pack) and those reports also have not shown up.
    Note that for both MPs the associated rules/monitors show up as expected, it is only the reports that are an issue. Also, all the previously imported reports are still available and functioning normally, it's only newly-imported reports that are failing
    to show up.
    We previously imported dozens of MPs with no issues and there have been no configuration changes to the environment. With no OpsMgr alerts or health issues, and no seemingly related event log entries we're not sure where to check next to see the progress,
    status, and issues with report deployment, any help in pointing us in the right direction is appreciated.

    Hi,
    Would you please restart data access service and system center management configuration service to check the result?
    In addition, have you checked the operation manager event logs with event viewer, we may find helpful information there to troubleshoot this issue.

  • What is the minimum permission set required to query alert information using OpsMgr 2012 SDK?

    Hi,
    I am using the OpsMgr 2012 SDK to retrieve alert information from SCOM.
    I tried configuring a read-only role for a user account (Group Scope: All, Dashboards & Views: All) but, as I call some of the APIs like Administration.GetAllManagementServers(), Administration.GetAllAgentManagedComputers() etc. I get a UnauthorizedAccessEnterpriseManagementException.
    I need to know what are the minimum permissions required for a user to query alert information and to make calls I mentioned above using the OpsMgr 2012 SDK.
    Warm Regards
    Himanshu Agarwal

    Thanks for the reply.
    Just to give you a context, I am writing a client application where a user can fetch alert information from SCOM using OpsMgr 2012 SDK. There could be many users that would use this application, hence I need to know the minimum set of permissions I can grant
    or add them to a group for easy maintenance.
    I believed Read-Only admin role was intended for that purpose but some of the SDK APIs as I mentioned throw the said exception.
    I would like to know, how can i create such role/group from SCOM 2012 console.
    PS: SDK and Config account is used by SCOM to perform DB operations and I would not like to impersonate this account in my client application. Instead I want to make my clients as admins with just enough permissions to read information. I'll have a better
    control this way.

  • Adding Company Knowledge with OpsMgr 2012 Console - "Failed to launch Microsoft Word"

    Hi everyone!
    I'm trying to add company knowledge using the OpsMgr 2012 console (32-bit) on Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) using the guidelines provided at the following link...
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212900.aspx
    I'm using Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 (32-bit) with the .NET Programmability feature and the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime installed, but I get the dreaded "failed to launch Microsoft Word" error...
    ...any help or guidance would be greatly apprecaited!
    Regards,
    JJ

    Thanks Andres!
    I have confirmed that the following instructions does allow you to use Word 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 64-bit or Windows Server 2008 R2 to edit company
    knowledge...
    1. Go to the directory where the OpsMgr console is installed (example: C:\Program Files\System Center\Operations Manager 2012\Console )
    2. Make a copy of Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config
    3. Edit Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config using Administrator rights
    4. Search for “</dependentAssembly>” and remove the “<publisherPolicy apply="no" />” line immediately following the “</dependentAssembly>” line
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    JJ
    Well, firstly I have to agree with other people's comments along the lines of "It shouldn't be this hard!", but I can happily say that the solution above (by IM5FOOTNOTHIN)
    worked for me...once I noticed this crucial footnote: "Do this for
    ALL instances of the
    <publisherPolicy apply="no" /> line that immediately follow the </dependentAssembly> line"

  • Services in unknown state

    Hello All,
    I have a 2 node RAC cluster running on Oracle 11G on Windows 2003. Everything appears to be working fine, but I have some services in an unknown state.
    If I stop all services using CRSCTL STOP CRS on any node, all services go offline as expected and OEM shows the fact that one of the nodes (instances) is no longer available.
    If I then issue CRSCTL START CRS on any node all services start up OK except for the .INST and .DB services. Issuing the CRS_STAT -T the .INST service shows as 'online' but its state is 'unknown'. The .DB service for the database shows as 'offline'.
    The stopped DB Instance does not start up automatically. If I try to start it using SRVCTL I get a CRS-0223 'Placement' error message . To get my stopped DB Instance to startup the only way I have found is to log on to sqlplus as SYS and issue the startup command. The instance then starts up with no problems
    I'm confused as to why the above mentioned .INST and .DB services dont appear to be in a correct state yet my RAC cluster appears to function correctly. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated .
    Thanks,
    Shaun

    I wouldn't use crsctl stop crs to stop the services, that shutdown the entire clusterware environment. Use "crs_stop -all" instead.
    As for your issue, did you check the alert log just after clusterware tries to start up the db?
    Check the alert log on the databases that are not coming up automatically. There's probably an error in there.

  • Monitoring SAN through OpsMgr 2012 R2

    Hello All..................I am trying to monitor SAN through OpsMgr 2012 R2.
    1.  What would be required for such a configuration?  I have following
    -   Management Pack for SAN
    -   IP Address
    -   User Name and Password
    2.  WHat would be high level steps?  Any step by step guide would be appreciated.  THanks.

    You have to share more information...
    What storage?
    What tapes?
    What switches/directors?
    To monitor your devices as network devices you just need SNMP ports (161/162) and ICMP enabled. Minimum requirement is SNMP get for the discovery and monitors/rules that poll the device.
    Cheers,

  • Composites in "Unknown" state after managed soa server restart

    Hi,
    I am using SOA suite 11.1.1.6 version on 64 bit OEL Linux. I am getting following error in managed server output log files:
    Feb 20, 2013 5:59:32 AM IST> <Error> <oracle.integration.platform> <SOA-20003> <Unable to register service.
    oracle.fabric.common.FabricException: Error in getting XML input stream: oramds:/deployed-composites/WirelessEnterprise/svcEnrichSEARequest_rev1.0/svcEnrichSEARequest.wsdl: oracle.mds.exception.MDSException: MDS-00054: The file to be loaded oramds:/deployed-composites/WirelessEnterprise/svcEnrichSEARequest_rev1.0/svcEnrichSEARequest.wsdl does not exist.
    Though this composites gets loaded, the composites dependent on this composite goes into "Unknown" state. Other composites are properly loaded on server restart.
    Please let us know if anybody has any solution to this problem.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your help.
    we have narrowed down to problem now.
    The actual problem occurs while redeploying same composite on same revision.
    E.g 3 composites A, B and C are deployed on and in "Up" state.
    B And C composites depends on A.
    B composite composite.xml has following entry
    <import namespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/A"
    location="oramds:/deployed-composites/Enterprise/A_rev1.0/A.wsdl"
    importType="wsdl"/>
    same entry exist for C composite.xml as well.
    Now whenever composite A is redeployed with same revision (1.0 in our case), and managed servers are restarted, B and C composites goes in to "Unknown" state.
    Moving A.wsdl to /apps/wsdl/* in MDS works but it duplicates the A.wsdl file beacause it also exists in MDS @ /deployed-composites/Enterprise/A_rev1.0/A.wsdl
    Please let us know if anyone has any solution.
    Thanks,
    Rupesh.

  • Resources in UNKNOWN state after failover

    Hi,
    I'm new to RAC and trying to understand how to bring a node back online. See crsctl output below.
    I've noted that the listener, ons and the database on the db01 node are all in an UNKNOWN state. The vip state is INTERMEDIATE.
    The cause was activating a virtual NIC on the db01 node. The vNIC was deactivated but not before a failover.
    I see oc4j is offline also which I believe is contributing to OEM dbconsole being unnavailable.
    Please advise/suggest the best way forward to remedy this.

    I was a little busy so only now do I have the time to reply.
    Another DBA was able to troubleshoot the root cause of the issue, which I will put here for the benefit of all.
    Essentially the hosts file (see snippet below) contained multiple entries for the node name, both on the "localhost" line and also in the "Public" section. A quick edit solved the problem.

    Maybe...

    I have a class that uses a Transformation mapping for the IP address field. The IP address is the string dot notation in the class, but is a long integer in the database. My entity class looks like this:
    @Entity
    @Table(name="LOCATION_MAP")
    public class LocationMap implements Serializable {
    bq.      @Transformation \\          @ReadTransformer(IPAttributeTransformer.class) \\          @WriteTransformer(IPAttributeTransformer.class) \\          @Column(name="IP_ADDR") \\          protected String ipAddr; \\          ...
    IPAttributeTransformer is a class that implements both org.eclipse.persistence.mappings.transformers.AttributeTransfomer and org.eclipse.persistence.mappings.transformers.FieldTransformer.
    When I attempt to execute the query, "select location.ipAddr from LocationMap location", it gives me the error Error compiling the query [(select location.ipAddr from LocationMap location|http://select location.ipAddr from LocationMap location]), line 1, column 16: unknown state or association field (ipAddr) of class (com.example.LocationMap).
    If I comment out the @Transformation, @ReadTransformer, and @WriteTransformer annotations, then I don't get the error, but of course I also don't get the transformed IP address.
    This mapping worked with TopLink 10g and the XML descriptor file, but I am trying to migrate to 11g and JPA with annotations.

    Hello Ryan,
    The example I have does the following:
    @ReadTransformer(method="buildNormalHours")
    @WriteTransformers({
    @WriteTransformer(method="getStartTime", column=@Column(name="START_TIME")),
    @WriteTransformer(method="getEndTime", column=@Column(name="END_TIME"))
    @Property(name="attributeName", value="normalHours")
    protected Time[] getNormalHours() {
    return normalHours;
    where buildNormalHours looks like:
    /** IMPORTANT: This method builds the value but does not set it.
    * The mapping will set it using method or direct access as defined in the descriptor.
    public Time[] buildNormalHours(Record row, Session session) {
    Time[] hours = new Time[2];
    /** This conversion allows for the database type not to match, i.e. may be a Timestamp or String. */
    hours[0] = (Time) session.getDatasourcePlatform().convertObject(row.get("START_TIME"), java.sql.Time.class);
    hours[1] = (Time) session.getDatasourcePlatform().convertObject(row.get("END_TIME"), java.sql.Time.class);
    return hours;
    Another uses a transformer class for the read:
    @ReadTransformer(transformerClass=org.eclipse.persistence.testing.models.jpa.advanced.AdvancedReadTransformer.class)
    which extends the org.eclipse.persistence.mappings.transformers.AttributeTransformer class and implements a buildAttributeValue method.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • Unknown state or association field

    Hi,
    I have a table "client" that has many "request", both have an id attribute that´s the primary key. I need to query the request of a type that belong to a certain type of client. In the Request entity I have the following named query:
    @NamedQuery(name="Request.findByTypeAndClient", query="Select r from Request where r.type = :type and r.client.clientType= :clientType")
    The app server starts fine, but when I try just get to the index page I get the following error:
    javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.FacesException: Can't instantiate class: 'com.app.web.backing.Index'.. class com.app.web.backing.Index : javax.ejb.EJBException:

    Exception Description: *Unknown state or association field [clientType] of class [com.app.entity.Request].*
    I've made sure I don't even use that query at the index page.
    Why does it happen and how could I fix it?
    I'm using jdev 10.1.3
    Thanks in advance

    That could be a hint...
    The Client entity has a list of Requests, and the Request entity keeps a reference to the Client it belongs to. Since what I'm trying to list are the requests, and not the clients, I was expecting I could use the Client reference in the Request entity to make the query. Isn't it possible?
