Opsview/Nagios Monitoring downed hosts

You can do checks on the event logs and filter/alert based on specified criteria, but if the server is down and Nagios can't poll the events log it won't be able to return any information other than the host is down.
When the server came back online you could determine if it was a user initiated shutdown with the event log check.

Is there a way to determine if windows hosts were down by user issued shutdowns versus a failure?

  • Monitoring Servers hosted on Cloud.

    Hi Guys,
I came across a request to check if it possible to monitor servers hosted on Cloud (Any cloud), servers in cloud are Windows and Centos flavors.
Pls help me in getting the possible solution and consideration which has to be taken care prior planning.
Pls Note: My request here is about only monitoring servers in the cloud, not the cloud itself.
    Thanks !
    - Thanks, Sai

    Sure, that's possible.
You will need the Firewall(s) konfigured to allow TCP 5723 from the agent or gateway to the manager. Further, if there is no domain level trust you have to use certificates to achieve that.

  • Disable second monitor at host at login.

As an IT guy using Central, I have several clients that I have given access to their computers.  Multiple of thest clients have requested that the second monitor on the host computer be disabled when logging in.  They would like to replicate how RDP behaves in this manner.  Any help would be appreciated. --Pingman

    Hi,
This might be depended on product itself.
On my lab machine, VDI is single-threaded and just show one session.
Thus I suggest you contact Citrix support to see if there are some suggestions.

  • Nagios monitoring SAP systems

    Dear Sir or Madam,
I have RHEL 6.2  with Nagios 3 and I wanted to monitored my SAP systems. I downloaded from SAP Website the  SAP NW RFC SDK 7.20. I used the SAPCAR to unzip the file. Do I need to compile something to install the  RFC on my server?
Do you have some information about how to connect monitoring tools like Nagios with SAP systems?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Eric,
you can use dpmon to check the state of the workprocesses. For example, if they are in PRIV mode, new users won't be able to logon, although on OS level all processes are running fine ...
For J2EE you would have to use jcmon to monitor your instance...
    Thanks,
      Hannes

  • Monitor BizTalk Host Queue length and suspended msgs w/SCOM

First, I hope the BizTalk forum is the right place to ask this. Maybe I should try the SCOM forum as well.
I'm trying to create two monitors (Not rules, as we want the alert to be automatically healthy when under treshold again and we want to see the status state as well) in SCOM based on performance counters for BizTalk Msgbox Host Queue Length and suspended
msgs. My question is what I should use as target (class) in SCOM? And can I use "All instances" of the counter or must i create a monitor for each instance (This is a lot of work and not very dynamic)? We want to monitor all the instances/hosts with
different tresholds, so the first thing I did was to target the "BizTalk Host" class, so I can do overrides to different hosts.
The problem with this is it will generete a alert for all hosts if one instance is over treshold. I also tried to target the "Run-time role", and this actually works better, but not perfect as i cannot set a treshold for just one instance/host
then and it will close the alert if any other intance is under treshold.
Anyone have experiences with SCOM and monitoring Hosts queues and/or suspended msgs as monitors?
thank you in advance for all suggestions!

I would suggest to look into spool table and its size . As per recommendation it  count should not be greater than 3000 per server .
Its easy way to monitor the performance counter "Message Box:General Counters /Spool size".you can execute one the following SQL in the BizTalk message box database.
You can have a counter for spool table size and manually you can use below sql query to find out the count.
SELECT count(*) from SPOOL WITH (NOLOCK)
    SELECT top 1 rows  FROM sys.partitions WHERE object_id = object_id(‘spool’)
Note :The NOLOCK keyword is important in first query, you don’t want to put any locks in the spool table while measuring the row count.  The second query is the one used by the performance counter “Spool Size” using the stored procedure
    “MsgBoxPerfCounters_GetSpoolSize”

  • Monitoring DHCP Hosts

    Hi,
I've installed EM 10g Agent on my notebook, which acquires it's IP via DHCP server in Oracle intranet. The Management Service is installed on a server with a fixed IP.
This is a problem as the Management Service is not able to communicate with my notebook as my hostname is not registered with Oracle's DNS, since the notebook is on DHCP.
Is there a workaround for this? Can we consider that EM 10g Agent can only be installed on hosts with fixed IP, for it work effectively?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
    Regards,
    Kianhui

The agent machine can use DHCP but it must be registered with DNS otherwise it is not possible for OMS to figure out agent target.

  • Share monitor down

I try to export a project for apple tv 1280 x 720. I tried 4 times. Decoding has almost come to an end then
a warning sign appears saying 3 x system down ???

Using the AppleTV setting for DV is a bit of overkill. The AppleTV can play 720p HD which is much bigger than DV. The iPad setting is higher quality than DV.
Until you get it working or an update fixes it, try the other settings that are working and sync each one to the AppleTV (under unique names) and compare the quality to see what makes a difference.

  • WVC80N Internet Home Monitoring Camera - Host Name

I don't seem to have a host name for my WVC80N.  I'm running dd-wrt on a Linksys wrt54g v5 and it shows * for a host name.  Why is that?  I would think the host name would = the "camera name".
Otherwise, everything works perfectly.  I'm using 192.168.1.244:1024 for an address.
    Thanks

It is not necessary to give Host name on WVC80N .
You can assign the Camera name under settings .

  • Web service interfaces for monitoring Hosts and instances with SAPHostControl, saphostexec and sapstartsrv

    Hi All,
I need to develop a monitoring application for SAP system which will monitor both Host systems and instances.
For this I need to collect Host data as well as instance data. In the below links I could find the SAP netweaver
    monitoring agents
Monitoring Hosts with SAPHostControl and saphostexec - Infrastructure of the SAP NetWeaver Management Agents - SAP Libra…
Central Monitoring with SAP NetWeaver Management Agents - Infrastructure of the SAP NetWeaver Management Agents - SAP Li…
Administration/Monitoring of SAP Components with sapstartsrv - Infrastructure of the SAP NetWeaver Management Agents - S…
These links tell that CCMS agent is replaced by these agents from SAP Netweaver 7.0 Eph 2.
I found below doc which explains "How to use the SAPControl Web Service Interfaces" exposed by "sapstartsrv" to execute instance specific tasks,
But it does not tells any methods/APIs/webservice interfaces specific to Host system or get OS data using "saposcol".
    SAP Control WebService
Similar to this, Is there any API/webservice to retrieve the OS and Host related data??.
Also, Is there any other doc for SAPHostControl or saphostexec similar to sapstartsrv ??
    Thanks,
    Swapnil

    Hi Swapnil,
I too wanted this info and came across these.
Take a look at these urls :-
    http://localhost:1128/SAPHostControl/?wsdl
    http://localhost:1128/SAPOscol/?wsdl
    grep saphost /etc/services
    saphostctrl     1128/tcp        # SAPHostControl over SOAP/HTTP
    saphostctrls    1129/tcp        # SAPHostControl over SOAP/HTTPS
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to monitor more than one target/Host with one agent in OEM 12c?

    Hi,
Is it possible to monitor more than one target/Host with one agent in OEM 12c? Please assist me on this

Since by definition a single EM agent must reside on a single database host, then, no, you can't monitor multiple hosts.
Unless you mean that you want to monitor multiple virtual hosts from a single physical host ... but in that case, you'd still need one host per database host.
That's just the way EM works. Always has, probably always will.

  • ASA 5505 Logging Issue - Warning: Configured logging host interface conflicts with route table entry

I am getting this warning on my ASA 5505 when I try to set up logging from my off site FW to the central FW, which is a 5510. What I am trying to do is send the FW logs through the VPN Tunnel into the central 5510 to our logging server at 192.168.22.99, but allow all other traffic out the outside interface so customers can hit our web servers down there. Here is an example of my config with fake IP's. I get this error when trying to do "logging inside host 192.168.22.99". If I try to put in "logging Tunnel host 192.168.22.99" I get the "Warning:Security Level is 1" message

  • Nagios + Ntop + Cacti

    Hello everyone,
I've finally been able to get into network monitoring. Ive currently got MRTG installed and running nicely on an arch virtual machine at work monitoring all our top level Cisco switchs.
I'm now reading up across the Internet about other products. It seems CACTI is MRTG taken to another level. Im interest in installing it on another VM prior to switching over. But im also wondering if I can install NTOP , to drill down to single hosts producing abnormal bandwidth (using the the ntop plugin with CACTI), and then installing NAGIOS in order to alert me for any down hosts(servers).
Does anyone see an issue arising from installing these three on one machine?
Would zenoss be a better solution in your opinion? ( i have only read a lil about it but not thoroughly. Yet.)
Is there any other solutions you see that would achieve this more efficiently?
    Comments Welcome.
Once I am able to start on this project I will post back.
    Thanks,
    Amphaeon
    P.S.
I've searched the Internet, for an implementation tutorial about this to only find a lot of job postings

    I took this approach instead:
    /etc/httpd/conf/extra/cacti.conf
    Alias /cacti /usr/share/webapps/cacti
    <DirectoryMatch /usr/share/webapps/cacti>
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
    order allow,deny
    allow from all
    <IfModule mod_php4.c>
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off
    php_flag short_open_tag On
    php_flag register_globals Off
    php_flag register_argc_argv On
    php_flag track_vars On
    # this setting is necessary for some locales
    php_value mbstring.func_overload 0
    php_value include_path .
    DirectoryIndex index.php
    </IfModule>
    </DirectoryMatch>
    Then under /etc/php/php.ini:
    open_basedir=...:/usr/share/webapps/cacti
It sees to work although at first on the setup it didn't recognize any of the binaries routes, but after setting them by hand and hitting on continue, it did not complain anymore.....
What do you think about the way I did it?
    Thanks!

  • Grid Control Configure Monitor Username

    Hi,
I dropped the standby and recreated it. Now i'm trying to add this to the OMS for monitoring. Host is success but when i try to add the standby database to OMS, the Monitor Username parameter is defaulting to dbsnmp and not allowing me change to sys so the sysdba can monitor the standby. How to change the deafult username parameter from 'dbsnmp' to 'sys'? I even tried to edit the targets.xml file on agent but everythin defaults when the agent is recycled? I can't give the 'dbsnmp' sysdba privileges since the database is in standby mode-mounted only.
    Thanks,
    Ash

To monitor a target as sysdba do this:
Go to targets and then select the databases tab and select your database (just put the green dot next to it, don't click on the database name link). At the the top/bottom of the targets page, hit the configure button.
In this page, hit the drop down box first and select 'AS SYSDBA'
Now you can edit the username.
